Lip Treatments -Burt's Bees - Nourishing Lip Balm with Mango Butter

(cross posting this with acai and mango lip balms) I was loyal to these lip balms for a few years now (got the acai and the mango). Loved the flavor, loved the texture. BUT it turns out, they were causing milia (big white bumps) just outside my lips and on my chin. I had these bumps for a while and started getting facials to fix them. My facialist had me toss out my tinted moisturizer, my face wash, everything and I still had the bumps. Then she finally asked "Is there anything else you use on your face?" and I said "I guess the Burt's Bees lip balms." So she asked me to toss them out too. Well, that did the trick. After only a week or two, all my bumps went away. Maybe the wax/oil in this product doesn't agree with me, or I'm allergic to an ingredient. Too bad, because I did enjoy these lip balms.

Treatments (Eye) -Aveeno - Positively Ageless Lifting & Firming Eye Cream

I usually use BeneFit EyeCon but I thought I would try this since I'm starting to see fine lines under my eyes. I also have dark circles. This product stings- makes my eyes tear if I'm not careful where I put it. It isn't the best at moisturizing either- a makeup artist told me my undereye area was in need of serious hydration... And it's the middle of the summer. So back to EyeCon I go. Two lippies because it didn't give me little bumps in the undereye area, and for the convenient pump bottle. I wish EyeCon came in this type of container!

Eyeliner -L'Oreal - Le Kohl Pencil in Smoke

A great blue-grey pencil. I used to use Cover Girl Perfect Point Plus but it melted off my eyes in the summer. This stuff stays put without primer, for the most part. It's not perfect, but it's good enough for my "5 minute face" for work, and it isn't a pain to remove at the end of the day.

Sunscreen -Neutrogena - Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer SPF 45 with Helioplex
rated 5 of 5
electra_cd 7/13/2008 11:47:00 AM

I'd been using Lancome's moisturizers for years, unneccessarily suffering with a huge milia problem. InStyle's best beauty buys issue convinced me to switch up my skincare routine. This moisturizer is great for me. For about a week after I started using it, my skin was a little irritated. I decided to stick with it, because I had changed most of my skincare routine cold turkey, so I can't blame this moisturizer for sure. After the breaking-in period, my skin got much better. I'm completely milia free these days. My full skincare routine (been doing this for 2 months now): J&J's Purpose Cleanser Lancome's Tonique Douceur (a holdover from my old routine) this moisturizer BeneFit Eyecon under my eyes (another holdover) twice a week- St. Ives Blemish and Blackhead Control Apricot Scrub on my nose and forehead (Don't need it on my cheeks anymore, yay!)

Moisturizers -Lancome - Aqua Fusion Continous Infusing Moisturizer Lotion SPF 15
rated 2 of 5

I've been using Lancome skincare products for over ten years, since back when the green colored bottles (pure focus is what they call it today, I think) helped get my acne under control. That's why I'm sorry to have to write this review. When Vinefit was discontinued, I tried this moisturizer in the summer, and I tried the cream and lotion versions of Bienfait Total with SPF in the winter. Even with regular exfoliating and mask-ing, I had a HUGE milia problem with all these moisturizers. I stuck with this for years because I thought I couldn't do better. Then I grabbed a copy of InStyle's best beauty buys, and it motivated me to change my entire skincare routine, cold turkey. Now I use Neutrogena Healthy Defense SPF45. Better sun protection, and after about three weeks, I was completely milia-free.

Eyeliner -Cover Girl - Perfect Point Plus Eyeliners
rated 3 of 5
electra_cd 5/25/2007 10:13:00 AM

I bought the perfect point plus in charcoal several months ago (I have dark brown hair, NC20 combo skin). I think that this has less staying power on me in the summer months; I've noticed it melting more now than I did when I first bought it. For the price, it's great in the winter. Since I don't really have time to prime my eyes in the morning to make this stay better, I'm trying Revlon Colorstay next. We'll see.

Eye Shadow -Kevyn Aucoin - The Essential Eyeshadow Set - Palette 2
rated 5 of 5
electra_cd 12/31/2006 11:43:00 AM

Bought this for the silver-plum (InStyle featured it for fair skinned, dark haired ppl like me) but this has now become my smoky eye staple. Others have done a great job describing colors. I use the charcoal grey wet with a liner brush for lots of other looks and the champagne looks great on its own.

Polishes -Ulta - Nail Polish
rated 1 of 5
electra_cd 11/25/2006 11:23:00 PM

I can't comment on Ulta polish in general, but I bought it in Encore Pink because I was looking for an opaque light pink for my toes, and with their BOGO I got free topcoat. Unfortunately, I couldn't get this to apply smoothly, even with basecoat/ ridge filler. It went on really thick and sticky. I will stick with my Revlon and Essie for the time being.

Eye Shadow -Bourjois - Intensely Luminous Waterproof Cream Eyeshadow -Beige
rated 5 of 5
electra_cd 11/1/2006 10:23:00 PM

Love this! An ULTA rep recommended it to me. I have pale skin (warm tone, not really pink at all) and dark brown eyes and brown hair. I work a 12 hour day and this stays put the whole time. Color is a very shimmery beige but I don't think it's too much to wear during the day. Looks great with UD Smog in the crease.

Fragrances -The Body Shop - Leap Perfume

I wish The Body Shop hadn't discontinued this fragrance. It was my HG back in high school. Since then, I haven't found anything I like enough to wear every day. Anybody know of a similar fragrance?

Concealers -BeneFit Cosmetics - Boi-ing
rated 2 of 5
electra_cd 9/23/2006 7:53:00 AM

At first, I really liked Boi-ing, (I bought shade 2). But now I've switched to Lancome effacernes because I felt like the consistency of boi-ing was too thick for summer, and even during the winter, it would cake/ crease on me, and fade by the end of the workday.

Concealers -Lancome - Effacernes

Great concealer. I used to use Benefit's Boi-ing but that product is cakey and was gone by the end of the workday. I am fair skinned with brown eyes and dark brown hair and have big dark undereye circles. This concealer covers very well (I agree with the reviewer who said you need two coats) and is waterproof so it stays on much better.
