Cleansers -Dermalogica - Essential Cleansing Solution
droolyslime 6/3/2009 11:14:00 PM
I love, love, love this product. It is the gentlest, yet most effective, moisturizing cleanser that I have ever used. It has a creamy texture that dissolves right into skin like a nourishing lotion, and rinses away perfectly with just a bit of water. I've actually left this cleanser on my skin for several minutes just to let it get into my pores and soften the gunk. I've never had a single breakout from this, nor had to suffer through tightness, dry skin, or irritability. I've gone through two 16.9oz bottles so far and am planning to buy another this fall. Am looking for a slightly more astringent cleanser for the summer months, since my skin chemistry seems to change dramatically once the sun comes. Highly recommended for dry or combination sensitive skin that could use a little tender loving care.

Cleansers -Bliss Labs - clog-dissolving cleansing milk
droolyslime 6/3/2009 11:06:00 PM
I was looking for a summer version of Dermalogica's "Essential Cleansing Solution"--my HG in cold, skin-drying weather. This cleanser has a similar smooth, milky texture, but with a much stronger scent and feel. It scared me a little the first time I used it, because my skin is uber sensitive and breaks out if a breeze hits it the wrong way. Anyway, this works great for me. I put a pea sized amount on dry skin and wear it into the shower. I don't fully rinse it off until the end, letting the steam and cleanser work together to ungunk my pores. It works wonders for my scaly, sunburned, congested summer skin. My face feels clean, smooth, and springy, and (for the first summer in a loooong time) more dewy than oily. A winner for me, at least until winter!

Conditioner -Burt's Bees - Super Shiny Grapefruit and Sugar Beet Conditioner

I really love this shampoo. My hair is very fine, and tends to get dry, tangled & "flyaway" near the ends. Always wild-looking, never smooth. For me, this product is the great equalizer that I've been searching for. It leaves my hair feeling very clean and heavy (not "coated with lots of crap" heavy, but healthy, strong heavy), with shine that lasts all day. It might weigh down thicker hair, or make oily hair look even wetter, but it's perfect for baby fine, dry, flyaway hair that wants to look a little more grown-up.

Masks -LUSH - Crash Course in Skincare BioFresh Mask [DISCONTINUED]

I love this mask for its versatility and for its yummy lemon smell. I put it on as-is to calm, tone and refresh red or dull skin. For deeper cleaning and/or blemish prevention (you know those times when you just *know* that if you don't do something drastic you're going to break out madly?)... I add in just a few crushed aspirin. Both methods really smooth and clarify my facial skin without overdrying or irritating it. One of my top two HG masks (LUSH's MoM is the other).

Masks -LUSH - Mask of Magnaminty
droolyslime 4/5/2006 12:53:00 PM
I've tried masks that have *totally cleaned out my pores* before, but they've left my face red and sore. I've tried masks that have *totally calmed everything down* and/or *healed* and/or *plumped up and supple-fied my skin* before, but they've been temporary fixes with no lasting results. I've tried masks that have exfoliated, refreshed, moisturized and glow-imparted, but NEVER have I found a mask that does everything, all at once, in one go. Until I found (duhn duhn duhnnnnn).... This Beautiful Product. Mask of Magnaminty made such a dramatic difference in one application that I (being a bit of a freak) decided to reapply the following night, and the night after that, and the night after that. Each time I got the same results--pure, soft-looking skin with an even tone and well-placed rosiness. (On skin that normally looks like a freshly plowed tulip-field-cum-oilwell.) My mask-happy phase has since worn off (thank you experiential wisdom and limited budget), but I still look forward to using this mask and experiencing its effects on a 1-2x/week basis. Great find. Thank you, MUA, for the tip(s)!

Treatments -Bare Escentuals - Rare Minerals
droolyslime 4/3/2006 7:25:00 PM
I'm only beginning this review because I'm a frequent lurker on the Boards and am well aware of how curious this product is making all of you. :) I felt it. I caved. For background, I have one of the worst types of adult skin a woman could want. Sensitive, combo, acne-prone that flares up into red flaky patches if overtreated, and oozes into a large-pored, spotted oilwell if under treated. My first night of "Rare Minerals" use was SCARY. The powder looked a bit cakey and dry on, and stuck to whatever flakes there were like gum to a shoe. The particles settled into my pores super fast, and I *almost* washed the whole deal off my face because I was afraid of the mess that I'd find in the morning. Took a deep breath. Slept for the requisite 8 hours. In the morning my skin felt very *different*. Very clean, very smooth. A little dry, but nothing a splash of cool water didn't fix. I can't talk about any difference in pore diameter at this point, but I can say that washing my face in the shower with a little rub of Dove soap was all that I needed to feel comfortable about facing the day. (Usually I feel a need to wash twice at least, and sometimes add in some scrub or a mask. My skin almost always feels "congested," even when it's clean.) The clean, clear-feeling smoothness lasted all day, and another night of treatment led to even more improvement in both texture and tone. And it was COMFORTABLE to sleep in and wake up to. I can't emphasize that enough! I can see myself very easily becoming really addicted to this stuff, and actually thought twice about posting this because I don't want these minerals to become even more rare than they already are. :)
Other points:1) The powder did NOT rub off on my pillow. I checked;
2) If you're thinking about getting a tinted version to hide your flaws on more romantic evenings (heh) like I did.... don't bother. It doesn't work like makeup (too opaque and dry), and if you make an attempt at "coverage" your lover will probably blink twice and ask you what the hell you've done to your face. When I asked the Sephora rep if this could be used under makeup in the daytime as well, she kind of blanched. I can see why. I'm getting the clear version next time.
3) There was no feeling of irritation or soreness, which is what I'd normally expect from something that showed such good results so quickly. No purging, no redness. I might be *shedding* skin more quickly (sorry for the visual), but I can't be sure that I'm not just noticing the huge difference in the new skin that's just starting to reveal itself under the old. :) I get the feeling this might be one of those products you can use as frequently or infrequently as your skin or budget allows without worrying about purging or relapses... which is nice considering the cost. Does anyone know of a reason to feel ethically mortified by this product? Does "Jurassic Soil" mean they're raping the earth? Do I really want to know? :-T I'll update in a few weeks with a more informed view... but for now? I'm really really impressed. 1 lippy taken off for the packaging--the poof seems unsanitary. The rest preserved for brilliantly exceeding my expectations!
UPDATE (after a few weeks): Still loving it. Did not prevent the "monthly breakout" from happening on schedule, but certainly did help everything clear up more quickly. I've skipped a few nights here and there with no adverse withdrawal effects, and I'm getting the knack of applying it so the "cakey" look is minimized. I found that spritzing a toner (Eau Roma by LUSH, for instance) over it helps it soak in and look more "glowy". I look forward to applying it, and I loooooove waking up in the morning, now. :) Glad to see y'all are in agreement!

Masks -DDF - Sulfur Therapeutic Mask [DISCONTINUED]
droolyslime 3/7/2006 6:48:00 PM
After reading all the great reviews, I went out and bought this mask. I love the texture of it--stays where you put it and flakes off in sheets instead of dust. Any inflamed areas were calmed down and reduced in size, but I can't say that this mask did anything to make them heal faster or prevent new problems from forming. My face didn't feel *clean* after using this... just softer. A good mask for calming things down in the morning or overnight, but not a step toward better facial health, for me. (Update: If you've had similar not-so-great experiences with this mask, try LUSH's Mask of Magnaminty. It did, for me, everything I thought DDF was going to do. :)
