Liquid -Maybelline - Fit Me Foundation
dreamxsoul 2/22/2011 12:30:00 PM
I've finally been able to find a foundation that isn't too pink for my yellow based nc30 skintone in the drugstore! Unfortunately, the shade i picked up, which is 220, is a bit dark for my skin at the moment. That's why I decided to go one shade lighter 210, however, i cannot tell the difference between these two shades at all. Did anyone else realize that 210 and 220 are almost the same shade?!
Anyway, this issue can be easily solved by applying a lighter setting powder on top so it's not a big problem for me.
Pros: no-makeup look, lightweight, good shade selection, dewy-looking, great for dry winter skin
Cons: weird flora scent, not long lasting on t-zone
Overall, it's a good foundation to use if you do not need much coverage and have dry/normal skin. It will not stay on your face for more than 3-4 hours if you have oily/combination skin. And I'm guessing that it would not be good for summer, when foundations can easily slip and melt off your face because of the heat. Personally, I find this foundation very good for my dry/combination skin during these winter months. Giving this a 4/5 for the amazing shade selection, packaging, spf, and comfortable wear.
If you are someone who prefers better coverage and staying power, I strongly recommend Revlon Colorstay or Almay TLC.

Masks -My Beauty Diary - Yogurt mask
dreamxsoul 1/31/2011 6:58:00 PM
This is a great mask for smoothing and moisturizing your skin. Smells faintly like yogurt, very cooling, and the sheet quality is great for the price! When I take it off, I can immediately see a difference in the tone of my skin. It looks a lot brighter and glowy. The only problem I have with this as well as the cherry blossom one is that they kinda sting my face, especially around the area right between my nose and lips. I don't know if others experience this or it's just me. I just ordered the apple polyphenol one and I hope it doesn't do that. But overall, it's a great mask to try.

Lip Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Mission Skincare Mega Balm- Blueberry Pomegranate
dreamxsoul 12/29/2010 3:34:00 PM
I got this on a whim on a trip to CVS, and I'm so glad I did! It's in a tube form and the product is an off-white color. The smell is amazing!! It reminds me of blueberry pie. YUM. The balm itself is very emollient and buttery, but it can harden up in cold weather. But no problem. Right when it touches your lips, it will melt a bit and glide on like butter. The lasting power is pretty impressive for a balm as well! My only gripe is that it does not have SPF, which might be a good thing since spf ingredients are usually not that great for health anyway. And this balm is made with mostly natural ingredients and is paraben-free, which is a huge plus. Overall, it's one of the best lip balms I've ever tried. Not to mention the yummy scent and taste. It's worth every penny I spent on it. Go try it out!!

Polishes -Sinful - Tokyo Pearl
dreamxsoul 11/27/2010 12:16:00 PM
I got this color on a whim during one of my trips to NYC. I was intrigued by the pearly color so I decide to try it out. Personally, I feel that it's a great color, very feminine. However, it doesn't really look good with my skin tone when I apply it over the entire nail.
So one day i decided to try doing french manicure with this color instead of a white polish, and I love the outcome! It's a bit different and makes my nails look really healthy and shiny. Sometimes, I also layer a pink polishes over tokyo pearl and they make interesting combos and all look gorgeous.
As for the staying power, it's really good for its price. It usually stays on without chipping/cracking at all for 2 to 3 days, then you'll get a bit of wear on the edges of the nails. But it will stay put pretty well for about 5 days. Of course, you should definitely wear a good base coat and top coat with it to enhance its staying power.
Overall, this color isn't the most special/ hard-to-find color, but it's great for the price and good for experimenting with layering polishes.

Lipstick -NYX - Indian Pink
dreamxsoul 9/12/2010 9:10:00 AM
Wow, it's such a cute color! It's a coral pink with a gold sheen, which reminds me of a pink-er and less golden version of NARS Orgasm. I love this shade, and compliments my nc30 skin tone really well. The texture is the same as all the other nyx lipsticks, very creamy and has more of a matte texture after application. Not very long lasting, but reapplication is very easy with this lippie. Overall, it's an awesome lipstick for the price!

Lipstick -NYX - Round Lipstick in Pumpkin Pie #630
dreamxsoul 9/12/2010 9:04:00 AM
This is my favorite shade out of all the nyx round lipsticks I've tried!! It's a gorgeous peachy pink color with very fine pink and orange shimmers that are not noticeable on the lips. It goes really well with my nc30 complexion! The texture is creamy like the other nyx lipsticks and the staying power is mediocre. But I don't mind reapplying because it feels so good on my lips! This is a must-try from the round lipstick collection!!

Fragrances -Lancaster - Lovely Liquid Satin by Sarah Jessica Parker
dreamxsoul 9/12/2010 8:48:00 AM
This is one of the few perfumes that I truly love because of the light scent and amazing texture after I spritz it on my skin. I never tried the Lovely EDP so I can't really compare the two, but I know that the most obvious notes in this Liquid Satin version are lavender and rosewood. For some reason, I also smell jasmine, but it's not listed as one of the notes...
But here's the official note break down:
Top Note: Mandarin, Rosewood, Lavender, Apple Martini
Middle Note: Patchouli, Narcissus, Orchid
Base Note: Cedar, White Amber, Musk
It's not one of the most long lasting perfumes I've tried, but I like the fact that it's so light and girly (it's not like "sweet-girly" but more like "innocent-girly"). I recommend it for everyone!

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - ExpertWear Eyeshadow Quad in Chai Latte
dreamxsoul 9/7/2010 4:51:00 PM
I can't believe I haven't review this yet, I've used this quad for almost.... 3 years now?? This is my HG everyday eyeshadow quad and even though I've tried many other drugstore and high end eye shadows, I always come back to this one. They are perfect for everyday since I don't like having a lot of color on my lids. I use the lighter taupe color almost everyday to define my small crease (I'm Asian). It makes my eye look more defined and bright. Sometimes, I'll use the dark brown to line my eyes and apply a tiny bit of the shimmery gold on the center of my lid close to my lash line to give my eye a glow. These are pretty much the only colors I use and they are super creamy and pigmented, even compared to my estee lauder eye shadows! I don't really use the brow bone color because it isn't as pigmented and only has shimmers. It's good for brightening the eye though!
It has great staying power and doesn't crease unless you used way too much or have super oily lids. Also, I can see the colors working for all skin tones. It's pretty inexpensive, so it doesn't hurt to try it!

Concealers -Revlon - Age Defying Moisturizing Concealer (New) [DISCONTINUED]
dreamxsoul 9/7/2010 4:14:00 PM
This is a pretty good blemish concealer. I am NC 30 with strong yellow undertones and I got the shade in medium (Golden beige in Colorstay and 004-005 in Photoready). Medium is a tad dark for my blue/green dark circles. I might go back to the store and get light/medium for that purpose. Also, I think light medium may work for me in the winter since I am quite a bit darker in the summer.
This concealer great for covering up redness and pimples without looking cakey. Coverages is medium for a concealer, not as pigmented as my Maybelline Instant Age Rewind (creases) and Dream Mousse concealer (a bit cakey), but pretty close.
The lasting power is pretty good. It doesn't crease!! And did I mention that the packaging is nice and sanitary?? I also love the fact that it's "age defying", has an spf of 25 and a yellow undertone (which is pretty hard to find since most concealers have a more peachy/pink base!!). VERY close to HG status. It would work great on Asian skin or warm toned skin in general.
Overall, it's a great concealer. If only there were more shades and coverage, it would be HG material!

Finally! A natural/organic lipbalm that's easily accessible!! This is currently my hg lip balm along with the eos summerfruit one. I can slick on the balm without worrying about having chemicals on my lips! And I can tell my lips love this stuff. It's very soft and moisturized! Will use this forever.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Extra Volume Collagen Mascara (waterproof)
dreamxsoul 8/26/2010 6:22:00 PM
Wow, I don't know what people are talking about! But this mascara really worked for my long but thin lashes. It did NOT clump at all. Maybe it's because I only do one to two coat max. On the first coat, it volumized and lengthened my lashes without looking unnatural. I have the color in blackest black and it really is black! However I did feel that it lengthened more than volumized, but I have my voluminous to take care of volume. There's very little flaking and it holds my curl because it is a waterproof mascara. I have yet to wear this in the rain to really test it, but so far, I'm really liking this as an everyday mascara. I will used this longer and update this review!

Lipstick -Revlon - Just Enough Buff
dreamxsoul 8/16/2010 6:35:00 PM
WOW! I can't believe i actually found my HG nude lipstick! I've tried almost all "nude" lipsticks in the drugstore and this is the only one that works the best for me. Revlon soft nude may be hg nude lippie for many people, but on me, it's too pink toned. Just enough buff has just enough yellow/peach in it to work for my light/medium yellow based asian complexion. I think this would work on most asians. No, it does not look like the "concealer" nude on me, partly because it is pretty sheer, which i like. (revlon nude attitude was too opaque and made me look like a walking corpse >.<) It's just nude enough to be called the "nude" lip color and does not wash me out. The texture is not as creamy as revlon colorburst, but i'm just so happy with the color that I don't really care. It's really moisturizing, just like the rest of the super lustrous line, which is awesome for my chronically dry lips. I'm so glad i found this gem!

Lipstick -Lancome - Chris & Tell
dreamxsoul 7/20/2010 1:43:00 PM
I don't personally have this lipstick, but I tried the one my friend got. It's a very nice corally pink shade and very easy to work with. At first I applied straight from the tube, and it was too bright for me. So i tried dabbing it on after wiping away my previous application. wow! it's such a pretty color! I wish i got the lipstick before it was all sold out everywhere. I haven't yet found an exact dupe yet, but tried layering two drugstore lipsticks that I own and it was pretty close! I first applied Maybelline's pink please lightly and then smoothed a layer of Revlon's peach lipstick over it. I highly suggest people to try this if they didn't have a chance to purchase Lancome's Chris and Tell.

Blush -L'Oreal - Bare Naturale mineral blush Shimmering Bronze
dreamxsoul 6/22/2010 4:33:00 PM
This is probably my best "natural" blush color. I saw it was 75% off at CVS and decided to give it a try since I don't have any neutral tan-based blush. Even though it says shimmering bronze, it's really not that shimmery. There is a bit of peach/gold colored shimmers, but you can barely tell unless you look closely. So, let's get to the pros and cons.
Pros: a little goes a long way (hence, this will last me forever), great taupey bronzey color, does not break me out, minerals (not that much chemicals),
Cons: the packaging is a little bulky and hard to use, the brush is a bit scratchy but usable, since it's mineral makeup, you have to take more time blending and buffing it out.
However, I'm not someone who is picky about packaging and hey, most mineral makeup packagings are pretty bulky. All I care is the actual product, and this is definitely a great buy, especially when it's on sale.

Lip Gloss -Revlon - Super Lustrous - Shine That Pink
dreamxsoul 6/18/2010 12:52:00 PM
I love this line of lip glosses. This one is no exception. I was a little doubtful when I got this because it is a cooler pink than the pinks I normally wear. (I have warm skin tone with yellow undertones). I was surprised at how bright it was when I put it on my lips, but it's actually not unnatural or clownish looking. Cool pinks never worked for me, but this one did! Well, two coats of this will be way to bright for everyday, but one coat or a few dabs is just perfect. I also love that it has spf 15 in it, which is a huge plus since many lip glosses actually make your lips more prone to sunburn.
