This was a nice enough perfume - reminiscent of Costes and Preparation Parfumee. Unfortunately, the dry down began to smell a bit like tiger balm on me. And while I really like the menthol smell of tiger balm, I don't think that all my coworkers would enjoy that scent wafting around the office. ;)

I didn’t exactly have high hopes for this one, but I can’t believe how badly this smelled on my skin! When I press my nose to my wrist, I get a faint hint of a plastic vanilla/coconut mixture…but when I sit back and let it waft up it smells like I melted crayons onto my arm. Thanks goodness I only received this as an extra in a swap.

I get a fairly fruity, sweet vanilla-caramel smell from this – very straightforward and does not change as it dries down. While it is nice enough, it is rather boring and plain - I could get the same kind of vanilla from The Body Shop, for far less.

This was one of the most disastrous fragrances I’ve tried on my skin in a long time. I think that what was most jarring was that I wasn’t expecting there to be any mint at all – when I had sniffed it on paper, it smelled like delicious figs and tea. Once I tried it on however, it became a very strong peppermint tea – and the mint never leaves in the drydown. In fact, I didn’t smell any fig in this at all…most disappointing.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Janca by Acqua di Biella
dreamwalkblue 10/14/2005 1:46:00 PM
After reading Thisbe and Genny’s raves for this, I ordered a sample – and fell in love. Janca is just so crystalline and beautiful in a soft, gentle, and refreshing way. The floral notes just sparkle in this – and while the patchouli and other spices warm this up a tiny bit (and in my opinion, make it wearable all year-round), they never overpower the fragrance as I find they often do in the dry down. Great scent to wear to work, it is one that I frequently get compliments on.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Costes by Hotel Costes
dreamwalkblue 10/14/2005 1:45:00 PM
My skin does not usually get along with pepper (particularly pepper combined with rose) so I always passed by this perfume when selecting samples. Based upon the positive comments by reviewers who seem to have similar skin chemistry/taste as me however, I decided to go for it. And I am *so* glad that I did – because his smells almost EXACTLY like Vinci-Rakos Earth / Tipton Charles Sandalwood on my skin! Tipton Charles was the tiniest bit too sweet and creamy at times, and while I liked the gentleness of Earth, I dislike applying perfume oils. I have been searching high and low for an EDT version…and it is Costes! Costes is a little bit more complex than either of the two, but is still so clean, warm, fresh, soft, gentle, and just a bit woodsy and floral. The incense notes do not come out on me at all, which I am very happy about. I would absolutely buy this again – in fact, I want the matching shower gel, lotion, and candle too!

Fragrances -Parfums De Nicolai - Juste Un Reve
dreamwalkblue 10/9/2005 12:48:00 AM
I, like several other reviewers here, ordered this fragrance unsniffed and based purely upon the rave reviews here. And to be honest, I was a little disappointed at first – I was expecting lush, tropical flowers, not a lush cloud of floral powder. Once it starts to dry down however, I begin to see what everyone else has described – a rich, creamy, soft floral that manages to be light and elegant at the same time. I think this will be a wonderful fragrance to wear all year round.

I had been meaning to sample this fragrance for over a year now, but after getting singed by Eau d’Ete, I was a little hesitant to try another PdN perfume. Shame on me! This is the perfect zingy scent for those who think that citruses are all boring variations of sweet lemon candies. Grapefruit, basil, and lime give this a sporty feel, while the incense and pine deepens and warms it so that it develops a comforting, earthy softness as it dries down. Although I know I will love this in the summer, I am not sure if I will enjoy it as much for winter-time wear…I’ll be holding on to my sample to find out.

I could have sworn that I had written a review for this, back in the day…but for some reason I can’t find it in my reviews. So pardon if you see two reviews from me on this one!
As mommyofcutie writes below, this immediately reminded me of Issey Miyake’s signature perfume. Although I must admit that I am not the biggest fan of aquatic florals, this one is particularly offensive to my nose for it’s cloying sweet blend of too-ripe flowers. Which is a shame, because the description sounded so promising! I must also add that you need to scroll down and read baybe’s review – I’m still giggling over it.

I like violets, and I like this fragrance. It is simple and uncomplicated in it’s sweet, clean and delicate way. Although it is nice enough, I think I don’t really know if it’s the ultimate violet perfume for me – I’d like to try Penhaligon’s Violetta first to see how develops on my skin.

I was looking forward to trying this light, feminine, sparkling fragrance – and what a pretty and evocative name! I tried the EDT version, and although it started out promising, the almonds became stale and musty while the mimosa became sharp, ozonic, and cloyingly sweet. Oh well, on to other mimosa fragrances for me…

As clb97p writes below, this is a “fussy” fragrance – it needs to be applied carefully, in a light manner. I couldn’t have described it any better. When used lightly, and when it works with your body chemistry, the result is a lovely clean, light, sexy musk fragrance. The lavender gives it a “cool,” breezy musk feel. If you are looking for a warmer scent that is in the same sort of clean white musk family, I highly recommend trying Vinci-Rakos Earth.

I really am torn on this. On the one hand, it’s a beautifully soft variation of white musk, which is one of my favorite notes. Besides, the white musk I detect a lot of sandalwood, along the vein of Tipton Charles’. I’ve even gotten many compliments on this perfume…
On the other hand however, I have recently come to the realization that I dislike perfume oils. They leave me feeling…oily, for lack of a more sophisticated description. They take a while to absorb into my skin, and in the meantime, I leave little grease trails on my keyboard, my desk, my clothes…I’m going to search for an EDT spray equivalent of Earth, while I use up my decant of the parfum. I will update if I can find anything similar.

I agree with Maximina, this smells very much like Vinci-Rakos Earth! In fact to me they are so similar that when I am in the mood for “sweet soft clean creamy-but-not-foody” scent, I find myself caught between the two. I usually end up reaching for Earth, though. While I like this scent a lot, it’s not something I’d purchase – but the price is very reasonable for the quality and quantity! If you have been scared off of sandalwood because of bad experiences with 10 Corso Como and/or Diptyque's Tam Dao, try this - I bet you'll like it.
