attention baby boomers: if you are looking for the 3 minute miracle that you remember from the 70's-the one with "that scent" that was unlike any other, than look for the 3 minute miracle labeled "sydney smooth" (i got mine from drugstore.com). yes it still smells exactly the same, to me a weird combination of coconut, almond and play-doh, and it's still a terrific, inexpensive treatment.
this is a very basic salicylic acid treatment. it's a liquid, like a toner but very strong. it smells of alcohol-i find it slightly irritating to my skin, so i only use it on my blackheads. it cleans them out completely and that's all that matters to me! since you only need a tiny bit to do the job, this bottle is lasting forever. they also make a "natural " salicylic acid product that seems to work as well, without the alcohol scent. garden of wisdom has very good customer service, by the way.
great brow gel, faint brown tint (if you wipe some on your finger, you will see that it doesn't add too much color). for me, it stays on all day and doesn't flake. for those of you concerned about the small size of the tube-i just checked my purchase history on sephora, and was surprised to find that i purchased my spped brow two years ago, and it is just now running out!
Treatments -Ion - Repair Solutions Hair Reconstructor
donnagonz 8/14/2011 5:08:00 PM
a bunch of my already-thin hair fell out after a two week stay in the hospital. i starting using the reconstructor twice a week, leaving it on up to a hour at a time, covered with a hot towel. within about six weeks, most of my hair has returned, my bald spots are all filled in, and my hair seems to be in better condition than before. and, for who knows what reason, my hair is a little wavier and darker than before it fell out. remember, this is a reconstructor, not a conditioner. and, oh yeah, it has a great smell-almonds. it is truly a miracle product for me.
my already-thin hair started falling out after a long stay in the hospital. i thought i'd try this before attempting rogaine. it is a non-oily liquid that left my hair drier, even though i tried hard to keep it on my scalp only. after two weeks i saw no improvement, and the little hair i had left was more damaged-looking, so i tossed it. i have now been using protein treatments twice weekly (keeping the treatments on for an hour or more instead of ten minutes) and my hair is getting much stronger and is no longer breaking off. the difference is amazing.
Gels/Soaps -Pangea Organics - Canadian Pine with White Sage Shower Gel
donnagonz 5/3/2011 10:11:00 PM
this body wash smells strongly of pine (like a christmas wreath!), but doesn't linger. the texture is similar to castile soap-fills slick and moisturizing going on, then leaves you with a squeaky clean feeling afterward. it's expensive, but really a great value since it's so concentrated.
Primer/ Corrector -Unlisted Brand - Monistat - Chafing Relief Powder-Gel
donnagonz 10/26/2010 11:13:00 PM
i address this review to fellow smokers. i had a serious problem with blackheads, but since i don't have acne, i figured it was due to the smoking. i started using the monistat gel as a makeup primer, covering all areas including the nose and chin. my blackheads are quickly diminishing. (i also exfoliate every three days).
Lipstick -Napoleon Perdis - Devine Goddess Lipstick - HESS
donnagonz 10/22/2010 4:53:00 PM
i ordered this based on the great reviews, and was very disappointed. hess is supposed to be a grayed-down pink nude. i see no pink whatsoever-it is a cool, pale nude with glitter in it. no pigment. applied, it looks like a frosty wash of pale beige-looks more like a "lip tint". it does seem moisturizing, though.
this "mask" is really a 20-minute exfoliating treatment. it has lactic & glycolic acids and of course, pumpkin (it smells fabulous!). even though it's quite strong and stings a good bit, it doesn't trouble my sensitive skin. it is a very thin liquid, not greasy at all. you only need the tiniest bit to cover the entire face. i bought the travel size, and it is lasting forever. i don't think it has lightened my dark spots, but it has helped clear out my blackheads.
Lip Treatments -Carmex - Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating Lip Balm
donnagonz 10/12/2010 10:34:00 PM
i suffered from seriously chapped lips for over a year. tried all kinds of treatments, balms and creams-both expensive and cheap. i tried this stuff and my problem was gone in two days and hasn't come back. moisture plus is a softish, twist up balm with a faint, vaguely floral scent (not at all like the one in the jar) that disappears right away. it goes on smoothly and leaves a slight sheen. it comes in a pink version, a peach one and a plain one. the packaging on the tinted ones is misleading. the shades are darker than they are on the packaging. the pink is a bright peony pink-but very sheer. the peach is darker than the pink-more of a russet-but again, very sheer.
this cleansing oil doesn't go on as greasy as the dhc deep cleansing oil, but it rinses pretty clean and doesn't sting my eyes. you should definately follow up with a regular cleanser afterward. the packaging is lovely, and it doesn't leak. the scent is mild.
Cleansers -Garden of Wisdom - Skin Friendly Cleanser
donnagonz 11/28/2009 9:37:00 AM
this has the most incredible fresh orange scent-it is absolutely stunning, like a sweet ripe orange just picked. just amazing. anyway, this is an excellent natural cleanser-lightly foaming, rinses completely clean, doesn't irritate my sensitive skin. i asked for a pump dispenser since i could not find one on the website, and markey was kind enough to include one at no charge. like many internet companies, the labeling on the bottles is not the best-if the label gets wet, the ink will run and the paper starts to peel. i remedied this by covering the entire label (and just over the edges) with clear nail polish. also, the pump prevents the label from crinkling due to squeezing it.
this is an economical alternative to other common cleansing oils. it is not as heavy as DHC, but also does not rinse off as well. it is more suited to drier skin. the scent is like a typical cooking oil-though not too strong or unpleasant. i asked for, and received, a pump dispenser (it was complimentary!)-you really need one for cleansing oils. if you cover the label with a couple of coats of clear nail polish, it won't peel off and the ink won't run.
in order to dispense this product easier, snip the little rubbery dispenser-thing with a sharp cuticle scissor, cutting in the shape of an "x". a little more product will come out-but not too much.
