Mascara -L'Oreal - Telescopic Explosion
rated 4 of 5

I was expecting to hate this product, but I'm plesantly suprised. The wand looks ridiculous...like a bomb on a stick. The ball is very small but this enables it to reach EVERY lash. It's also great for doing the bottom lashes, and I get hardly any product around my eyes (might sound crazy but for me that is an achievement) There is too much product on the wand so I have to wipe it off each time or else my lashes will be globbed in mascara but I can deal with that. 1 coat of this and my lashes looked quite lengthened. I think this is a BRILLIANT day-time mascara...it made my lashes look so pretty and gave me a 'girl-next-door' look =) Pair it with another mascara and you can get va-va-voom lashes. Seriously! I usually use this for my 1st coat, then apply another coat or 2 with another mascara and it looks like I'm wearing falsies. Overall, a good mascara. I think I'd repurchase.

Polishes -OPI - Strawberry Margarita
rated 4 of 5
dominicangirl 6/8/2009 6:21:00 PM

Pretty hot warm pink colour. It's bright and vibrant without looking too tacky or in-your-face. I have Elephantastic Pink which is practically identical to this except it's more cooler. I think I prefer this one more though as it goes better with my tan skin.

Gels/Soaps -LUSH - Porridge Soap
rated 2 of 5
dominicangirl 6/8/2009 1:20:00 PM

I really like the smell of this but the product itself is very average. It has really sharp hard nuts in it that feel rough on the skin when rubbed too hard...I used a slice of this as a hand soap and it made my hands feel dry and tight. I also used a slice on my body and it's a bit too rough for my sensitive skin -- made me slightly red and sore sometimes. I guess this would work as a decent body exfoliator for once a week usage, but other than that I'm rather disappointed.

Blush -MAC - Sheertone Blush Pink Swoon
rated 2 of 5
dominicangirl 6/8/2009 1:15:00 PM

Looks bright in the pan, but on my skin it does not show up. Only if I apply over 3 layers does it give my NC37 tan skin a *SUBTLE* pink glow...and even then...barely noticeable. I don't want to spend 10 years applying a blush that doesn't show up on my skin. Very disappointed with this as the colour is gorgeous in the pan and I thought it would give me nice baby doll cheeks.

Blush -MAC - Beauty Powder in Eversun
rated 3 of 5
dominicangirl 6/8/2009 1:11:00 PM

I'm on the fence about this blush. It looks like a warm peachy brown colour with some golden shimmers in the pan, something I thought would look great on my tan NC37-40 skintone. However on my skin...it barely shows up! I couldn't even tell I was wearing blush. However, I'm gonna try and apply with a heavier hand, or a different brush (I used my TF retractable kabuki) and see if I get better results, cuz it does look very nice in the pan.

Toners -Unlisted Brand - Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar
rated 4 of 5
dominicangirl 6/7/2009 8:08:00 PM

I don't use this as I toner as I think it would be too strong for my sensitive skin, but I do have 2 other uses for it. Firstly, I have 1 table spoon of this everyday...it's worked wonders for my skin. I used to have very acne prone blemished skin with whiteheads everywhere. Since having this everyday, my skin no longer has any whiteheads and I never break out unless it's the time of the month! Don't have too much though -- 1 time my brother took my bottle from the fridge mistaking it for juice (stupid guy!) and drank a whole swig...it made him really ill for 2 weeks and he said he could feel it burning his stomach for hours afterwards. My 2nd use...I sweat a lot and no deodrants seem to control my odour on my armpits. However, I put a bit of ACV on a cotton wool pad, then dab it on my armpits. It stops my armpits from smelling like BO throughout the day, something which I never thought would happen. You can also mix some with water, put it in a spray bottle and spritz some into your shoes to stop your shoes from smelling. Make sure your ACV has 'mother' in it (the bits floating around -- this is all the good bacteria!). I really like ACV although the smell and taste aren't nice at all, I can live with it.

Bronzers -Too Faced - Chocolate Soleil
rated 3 of 5
dominicangirl 6/6/2009 2:02:00 PM

Hmmm...this is not a bad bronzer, but I was expecting something amazing due to all these glowing reviews. Maybe my expectations were too high and that's why I'm rather disappointed. I'm a tanned NC37-40 girl and I like using natural looking bronzers with minimal amount of orange and no shimmer to them. First off, the packaging is pretty cute and it comes with a mirror which is handy. Unlike most others on here, I don't like the smell of this bronzer. It smells artificial and doesn't resemble cocoa or choclate -- at least not any cocoa or chocolate I've ever smelt! It's not an offensive smell but definatly not something that makes me stick my nose in the compact and think "ohh this is lovely". It looks quite brown in the compact, and darker than my Benefit Hoola bronzer. But on my skin, there is a slight orange tone to it. Nothing blatently orange, but I don't think it looks brown at all on my skintone (and I'm naturally tan!). I only use this as a contour colour on my cheeks because I think my face would look orange if I used it anywhere else. It gives a subtle contour effect and blends out ok. For over £18, I don't think this is worth it at all. Overall I'm kind of disappointed with this. It's ok, but not worth the price. I wouldn't repurchase.

Hair Styling Tools -GHD - IV Styler (all sizes)
rated 5 of 5
dominicangirl 6/5/2009 2:49:00 PM

I love the GHD IV styler. I have both the normal plate size and wide plate...I prefer the wider one for my thick long hair as it takes less time. It heats up super quickly and straightens my hair very easily. I have naturally curly hair that I chemically straighten it but it still stays wavy, and when my roots grow out they're curly so I need to straighten my hair. Needless to say, this straightens all my tight curls and waves. I only wash my hair once a week, and 1 straighten with these on a sunday night lasts me until the next sunday I wash it. I only need to straighten my hair once per week with these GHDs, no other straightner has allowd me to do that before. They're pricey but worth it. I love the fact that when I travel abroad, I can take these with me and not worry about voltage, because the IV styler adapts to whatever voltage is in the country you're staying in. Great for when I have to go and see the family back in the Dom Rep where it's hot and humid in the summer and I don't want to look like afro man. The GHD makes my usually rough, dry, damaged hair look soft and smooth. I really do love this straightner and I would recommend it to those with hard to manage hair. If you have straight hair I wouldn't recommend this -- it's too much heat than you need. Especially if you're a person who straightens your hair everyday, DO NOT get these! They will damage your hair like crazy because they get so hot. However, if you only use them a few days a week or once a week like me, definatly consider it.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - EXTRA VIRGIN Coconut Oil (All brands)
rated 5 of 5
dominicangirl 6/5/2009 2:41:00 PM

This is the only body moisturizer I use now. For years I tried countless lotions and whilst some made my skin feel moisturized, it was only for a short while. After trying coconut oil out on my body, my skin feel moisturized for DAYS... I had a problem with spots on my chest for some reason, and they weren't going away. After using coconut oil on my chest for a few days, the red sore spots all went away and my chest has now been spot free ever since! I use this all over my body and my skin feels super soft and supple. I take a small scoop of coconut oil from the tub, put it in a bowl and pop it in the microwave for 30 secs so it forms a warm oil. I then rub it between my hands and apply where ever. It doesn't feel greasy and absorbs pretty quick considering it's an oil. The smell dies down a few minutes after application and my skin GLOWS. I really would recommend this - for all those in the UK you can get a massive tub of pure virgin coconut oil from Holland & Barratts for £10. It will last you for AGES.

Blush -Laneige - Snow Radiant Blusher - The Secret of Snow Crystal
rated 5 of 5
dominicangirl 6/4/2009 8:10:00 PM

I absolutely LOVE this. I haven't had luck with any highlighters - they all either look too tacky, shimmery or don't show up on my NC37-40 tan skin. I got this in 03 and wasn't expecting much...but I like Laneige so I decided to bite the bullet and just try it. Needless to say; it's a brilliant highlighter. I use this underneath my eyes and on my t-zone. It gives me a gorgeous glow which doesn't look too shimmery. It makes me look radiant and dare I say...gorgeous! I get so many compliments on how nice I look whenever I wear this. The packaging is really attractive aswell. My HG highlighter and I would definatly repurchase

Self Tanners -SUN Laboratories - Ultra Dark Lotion
rated 4 of 5
dominicangirl 6/4/2009 8:04:00 PM

I got this due to the rave reviews. For reference, I'm a naturally tanned NC37-40 girl, but I always like to look even darker. First off, this tanner has no typical biscuit smell like most others do. It smells like cherry almond when you first put it on, and when it's developing there was no fake tan smell either which was great. I mix this in with my HG gradual tanning lotion (2 pumps Ultra Dark lotion, 1 pump of my gradual tanning lotion), apply 2 layers after waiting for the 1st one to dry, and this gives me a dark tan within 1 application. When I shower, none of the tan came off down the drain, it all stayed on my skin. Best of all, no streaking! I can get away with saying this is a 'natural' tan. No one ever questions me as to whether I've used a self tanner, they always say "have you been away? You look so brown!". There is barely any orange tint to this. It's pricey, but well worth it IMO.

Pressed Powders -New York Color - Color Wheel Mosaic Face Powder - Rose Glow (725A)
rated 4 of 5
dominicangirl 6/3/2009 7:28:00 AM

I'm actually liking this a lot. It's super cheap in Superdrug, and after all the MAC blushes I've been buying recently, it was definatly a relief for my credit card. There are some slight shimmers in this, but it's not chunky or glittery. I swirl my kabuki in this and apply it on my cheeks, and it gives me a subtle 'glow'. You can't really tell I've put anything on my cheeks, but it makes me look more radiant in some way. I'm a tan skinned NC37-40 so this may give more of a slight colour payoff on lighter skinned girls, I'm not too sure. The packaging is a bit sucky and I'm always worried the lid will come off in my makeup bag, but I can deal with that. I'd repurchase this again, no doubt ^^

Lip Treatments -Carmex - LipBalm
rated 1 of 5
dominicangirl 5/31/2009 6:38:00 PM

Carmex feels really moisturizing when I first put it on my lips, and gives a slight cooling sensation. However, when it wears off, my lips feel dryer than before I put it on. Sometimes, I find my lips peeling after using this. Looking at the ingredients list - Carmex contains salicylic acid. Salicylic acid basically eats away the outermost layer of skin (which is why it's good for warts/acne/corns etc), but this is bad for the skin on the lips because the outermost layer of skin no the lips is very thin; some people don't even have it! I think this is what was making my lips peel. Because the Carmex was burning away the skin on my lips, I applied more Carmex, thinking I needed more of it to moisturize and heal my chapped peeling lips. However, cuz this stuff also contains menthol, it made my lips feel really uncomfortable and quite sore. I wouldn't buy this again and am throwing my pot into the bin. Not worth the hassle at all -- I'm sticking with my MAC TLC's.

Gels/Soaps -LUSH - Honey I Washed the Kids soap
rated 2 of 5
dominicangirl 5/30/2009 4:59:00 PM

I am really disappointed with this soap as I was expecting great things due to the rave reviews. First off - I cannot smell this thing unless I put my nose to the wet soap. It does smell gorgeous, like melting honey and caramel, but why can I only smell it when I put my nose against it? On my skin, it leaves no scent behind which is my mine gripe against this soap. It leaves no smell in my bathroom, no smell on me, no nothing. The quality of the soap itself isn't that high either -- it left my skin feeling slightly dry and it irritated a certain patch of skin below my armpit, leaving it all red and sore. Although my body itself felt clean after using it, which was good. I paid about £2.89 for a small chunk of this but it lasts AGES. I cut off 1 thin slice of my chunk and it lasts me about 5 showers usage, so I won't be running out of this anytime soon. I wouldn't repurchase this; it's nothing special.

Fragrances -Paris Hilton - All Products
rated 1 of 5
dominicangirl 5/30/2009 1:59:00 PM

I tried this on in the store today - not only on my wrists, but on those free perfume strips they give you to spray the perfume on. Needless to say, I was expecting a sweet fragrance after reading these reviews. However, this smell was just so...musky, dull, non-sweet, non-fruity...totally unexpected. I really didn't like it, and it gave me a headache almost instantly. Definatly a miss for me.
