Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express One by One

I decided to give Maybelline another chance even though I haven't like any of their mascaras much before. I had a $1 coupon and Maybelline was on sale at Walgreens BOGO half off. The first thing I noticed was how the packaging and applicator were very similar to Cover Girl's Lash Blast. They are using the plastic, spikey bristles, although they are doing a poor job of copying CG. The brush is flimsy and too soft in my opinion and the wand flexes. I don't like the scent of the mascara either. I have oily skin so I have trouble finding mascara that doesn't smudge during the day. I've had this problem with past Maybelline Mascaras (including Great Lash) and lo and behold, the same happens with One by One Volum' Express. It also applied clumpy. Yes, it did give me volume and some length, but with several more coats than I normally need with CG Lash Blast. I won't be repurchasing this.

Lotions/ Creams -Booths - 4-in-1 Multi-Action Body Lotion Vanilla Butter
dogluver74 2/3/2011 12:57:00 PM
Great lotion. First off, this is a real bargain, 32 oz. for $9.99 at Ulta. I like the smell a lot, it's sweet yet subtle and it actually lasts quite a while. It's very moisturizing and absorbs into the skin right away and doesn't feel greasy. It has all kinds of nice ingredients in it - alpha hydroxy acids (lactic, malic and glycolic), shea butter, almond oil and apricot oil, vitamins A and E, and caffeine (to tone). I've seen other lotions with maybe just a couple of those ingredients, costing a lot less for a smaller bottle. I like the Booth's line, as they have a lot of affordable high quality items. I also love their green apple microdermabrasion scrub and just bought the argan oil body butter, apricot oil firming body lotion and calming tomato peel mask, which I can't wait to try. I would definitely recommend this lotion to others.

Blush -Bare Escentuals - True all over face color
dogluver74 9/14/2009 12:38:00 AM
Luv luv luv this stuff! The color is beautiful and seems to flatter every skin tone. I think I've had the jar over 2 years at least and have yet to even go through 1/4 of it. You use a VERY light hand with this stuff and it is sooo shimmery and lasts FOREVER. I've only tried this and the Warmth all over color and of course they're complete opposites (Warmth is totally matte). The True color is a gorgeous goldish pink/rose and when I use it, I just barely shake the jar a bit so that some of it gets onto the lid then I barely touch my brush to the lid to grab some of the powder. I have acne-prone oily skin and this doesn't make me break out either. Would purchase again (if I ever run out of this stuff!)

Lip Gloss -Physicians Formula - Plump Potion - Nude Potion
dogluver74 9/10/2009 10:38:00 AM
Wow this is good stuff. I picked this up at CVS when they had the buy 1 item get 2nd 50% off so it came out to about $6 after discount I think. I like the concept of lip glosses, they seem to look so sexy but most of the time end up making me look like I ate a bucket of fried chicken with greasy lips. However, this Plump Potion did exactly what it claims to do, it makes my lips look sexy and full without being overly shiny. It does have a slight tingle the first couple of times I used it, but now that I'm using it for a couple of weeks, the tingle is very slight now. It feels more like a "cooling effect" if anything. The Nude color is great, I'm always a fan of nudes. The brush applicator is a definite plus, as it gives more precision and feels great going on and not the typical cheapy fuzzy wand. It doesn't feel too tacky or taste gross like some other glosses I've tried before. Only complaint would be the packaging size is bit bulky, closer in size to a pen than a lipstick/gloss. But at least it seems sturdy and won't fall apart amongst the junk in my purse. Great product!

Mascara -L'Oreal - Double Extend Beauty Tubes
dogluver74 1/21/2009 12:01:00 AM
Let me start by saying I have very sparse, short and stick-straight lashes. I like a mascara to build volume, length and curl all in one if I can find it. I also like a smudge-proof mascara as I have oily skin and it's hard to find one that doesn't make me look like a raccoon by mid-afternoon. I liked this mascara because it definitely lengthened and helped to curl my lashes (I don't use a curler). It doesn't do much for volume, but then again, the packaging and commercials emphasize length, not volume so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. And I have worn this mascara all day until bedtime and it doesn't smudge, now THAT is hard to find. It's very easy to remove with soap and water. It also feels pretty light and I tend to forget I'm wearing mascara. I have noticed it will sometimes clump, but maybe it's when I get a little carried away and put too many coats on. I also put on the Step 1 base coat on both eyes first before I put on the Step 2, so maybe it's clumping because the base coat is drying by the time I put on step 2. I've tried other dual brush, base coat/final coat mascaras and they have always smudged, so this is the first one I've tried that doesn't. Pretty good deal at under $9.

Powder -Neutrogena - Mineral Pressed Powder Foundation
dogluver74 2/8/2008 6:57:00 PM
So I just happen to come across this powder at a local Walgreens, in their "new items" section, and of course I had to try it! I've been looking for a compact mineral foundation and was very happy to find one from Neutrogena, which is known for being gentle and non-comedogenic. I am Asian and have some yellow in my skin, so it can be hard to find a good color match. I tried the Nude 40 color, and it's a very good match for my skin tone. I have tried it for about a week now and am pretty happy with it. I have oily skin and am prone to break outs. I haven't noticed any break outs this week and my skin actually feels smoother (maybe my imagination?) I usually use BE in medium beige, and it gives good coverage, but tends to oxidize slightly with my oily skin and will sometimes fade around the corners around my nose. But with the Mineral Sheers, the powder color stayed true and I noticed less shine throughout the day! I use a baby kabuki brush in the a.m. and it gives me a light coverage but hides my dark spots pretty well. I use BPO in the a.m. so i was worried a pressed powder foundation would look too cakey or dry on my face. But this powder doesn't look too matte or heavy. The sponge application is a bit heavy for me, especially for touch ups during the afternoon. I will have to start carrying a small portable brush. But overall, a very good product, especially for the price. I paid $12.99 last week, but Walgreens is having a sale this week for 40% so I will stop by and pick up a couple extra, maybe in a darker tone for the summer as well! I give it 4 out of 5 only because I wasn't happy with the packaging, having to flip the compact up to access the mirror. They should use the MAC packaging which is perfect. But I suppose since it's drugstore brand, they need to display the color with the clear lid.
