Eye Shadow -MAC - Club Eye Shadow

my most reached for eyeshadow, indeed the first one in what feels like aeons where ive hit the pan! this may not sound like such a big deal, but for a notoriously fickle shadow junkie like myself, this is quite the indicator of commitment. indeed, were this shadow a smoulderingly dark, ever-so-slightly quirky man, id propose marriage without even waiting for the leap years say so. as it stands, its only a smoulderingly dark, ever-so-slightly quirky pot of satiny smooth eyeshadow, so i only have to extend my display of affection as far as a repeat purchase at my local mac counter in a few months... whew!

decently pigmented twist on the classic chocolate brown. the cool green flash of duochrome here makes for a subtley different smokey eye, my favourite look with club. i like to use it in the crease, paired with lighter tones on the lid and browbone sometimes too, and it has even served me as an exceptionally pretty liner when painted on wet. wonderful, wonderful stuff

Mascara -Max Factor - Masterpiece Mascara
rated 4 of 5

REVIEW FOR WATERPROOF FORMULA - first mascara ive ever managed to find which doesnt smudge or flake on me at all, not one bit. not even after hours and hours of wear, not even with tears threatening my lashline after standing on a stray lego brick, not even when peering at myself blearily the morning after the night-so-good-i-uh-forgot-to-take-it-off before, not even after 45 "glow" inducing minutes of an intensive dance workout dvd.

of course, nothing this awesome comes without a price being paid, and the tag here reads: "£8.99 and absolutely no drama." while im not much of a fan of the screaming row in public for example, i definitely do appreciate something with a tad more impact in the lash department, and this just doesnt deliver the goods. no discernable thickening, not much in the way of lengthening, simply added a little definition and inkiness to what god gave me.

a nice enough, non clumping daytime look, for sure, but lacking the pizazz to be my true HG. the search goes on...

Eye Primer -Artdeco - Eyeshadow Base
rated 5 of 5
discopistol 4/20/2008 1:51:00 PM

okay, well heres the good news: if yr looking for a high quality eye base which leaves yr make up virtually indestructible, makes colours pop and grabs pigment where it would usually dust away, then look no further. if, like me, yr long search for the holy grail of eye bases has led you to schlep wearily past a thousand beauty counters, a trail of discarded tubes, pots and frankly ridiculously shaped containers (seriously, urban decay, whoever had the aladdin-meets-barbarella packaging wheeze wants firing) in yr wake, then hurrah! this may just be the end of the line.

found other products too drying? this is such a deliciously creamy texture that it beggars belief, upon first swipe, that it could be crease resistant (but it is, if applied meanly enough... oh, and how!), making it a dream to work with, easy as it is to quickly blend across the lid with a finger or a brush. once my eyes have been painted on for the day over this base, i dont have to pay them any mind until its time to wash them off for the night, whereupon i find the colours still fresh and uncreased, the lines still sharp and unmoved. i have barely held in shuddering sobs over arguments with my ex; i have worked up an unladylike sweat sprinting to catch the last post or bus on many the humid summers day; i have thoughtlessly rubbed my fingers across tired peepers through countless half asleep afternoons... and this marvellously magical stuff has withstood it all.

well then, and now, onto the bad: i have a couple of very minor criticisms of this product. firstly, the packaging. while artdeco eye base looks sleek enough in its glossy little black container, i dislike immensely that if i choose to use my finger for application i have to shove it into a pot. i have lost much product and more than a little patience cleaning slightly pearlised, nude coloured goop out from under my not-particularly-long fingernails. ick. secondly, this stuff grabs pigment with such ferocity that it can make blending and softening make up applied over it somewhat trying. i HIGHLY recommend waiting a full minute at least before attempting to apply any cosmetics over this base, as that allows it sufficient time to set, leaving anything layered over it much easier to play with. i also find dusting over the entire area im going to apply anything more vividly coloured or dramatically dark to with a neutral powder or shadow prior to setting to work over this base allows me the staying power this base affords, but with increased blendability.

all things considered (and i must confess, at a mere 6gbp a container before postage, price very much numbers amongst them!) this is my favourite eyeshadow base to date. currently working my way through my second jar, with many more to follow, doubtless

Powder -Meow Cosmetics - Flawless Feline Mineral Foundation
rated 5 of 5
discopistol 4/20/2008 11:52:00 AM

this is a superior quality mineral foundation. its extremely finely milled, glides on smoothly and evenly, blends easily, and is available in a HUGE selection of shades and colour depths. i use the flawless feline formulation (sleek depth - i am extremely pale skinned and even i found the inquisitive depth too light. perhaps best for the palest of redheads!), which is described by meow as being "heavy coverage". id say that is a fair assessment, it certainly offers the fullest coverage of any mineral foundation i have ever tried, making short work of any skin tone uneveness: blotches, broken capillaries, old scarring, etc. i use meows undereye concealer (find the regular formula difficult to work with) on any more serious flaws that decide to put in an appearance, such as larger, angrier spots, as i find even the flawless feline foundation needs just a little leg up to help conceal a major disaster. nonetheless, very impressive coverage for a mineral foundation, and when applied with a light touch and a decent brush its very easy to achieve a smooth, natural look thats not at all cakey.

this has pretty great staying power too, i can apply my make up in the morning and find it holds up to inspection reasonably well at the end of the evening with no touch ups, although i must admit that i usually like to blot my skin a couple of times throughout that period for oil control.

the packaging, while not devastatingly attractive, is sturdy and practical, with a built in sifter and the jar being wide enough to allow for even a larger flat top brush or kabuki to be dipped into the lid (which i sift a little of the product into at a time in order to apply it). ive had cause to take the jar away with me when travelling on several occasions and have yet to experience any problems with breaking or leakage.

perfect for those of you who, like me, feel you need a little more help evening out the imperfections. for now, HG :D

Primer/ Corrector -Meow Cosmetics - Premier Puss Primer Oily
rated 1 of 5
discopistol 4/20/2008 11:27:00 AM

leaving a review mainly because im suprised at what overwhelmingly positive feedback there is for this product on mua. this primer didnt do anything for me, neither in the way of oil control (i was slightly shiny around the nose and across my cheeks within a couple of hours, as usual), nor noticeably improved application of foundation over the top of it (i also use meow foundation, which is a breeze to apply anyway, so i wasnt heartbroken to find this primer didnt improve application). on a positive note, meow products are relatively inexpensive, so this wasnt a costly mistake!
