Tinted Moisturizer -NARS - Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer
deelasoul 11/22/2012 10:31:00 PM
I'm a big NARS fan and usually use the Sheer Glow foundation but wanted something lighter for the summer so I thought the Tinted Moisturizer would be perfect and it was ... at first. Coverage is sheer but fairly buildable. I have a little redness in my cheeks and two layers covered it pretty well. I liked the shades, too. Seychelles was perfect when I had a bit of a tan ... definitely on the yellow side though. So what was the problem? After a few weeks, I realized it was breaking me out. I suspect it's the SPF, which is lovely in theory but my skin is truly sensitive and doesn't appreciate most SPFs. Anyway, if your skin can tolerate it, it's a fine TM.

Moisturizers -Simple - Light Moisturiser
deelasoul 11/2/2012 8:18:00 PM
Like other reviewers have also experienced, my skin reacted badly to this moisturizer. I have sensitive, fairly oily skin and this burned a bit on applicaiton but even worse, turned my skin red and gave me a slight rash on my cheeks and jawline. For reference, I usually use Boots Light Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin or Clinique Dramatically Different Gel Moisturizer with no problems.

Liquid -Urban Decay - Naked Skin
deelasoul 9/1/2012 3:15:00 PM
Based on this mixed reviews, I really think this is a try-it-for-yourself product. I'm a foundation junkie and love trying new releases. I was excited when I started seeing buzz about this and ran to Sephora for a sample. I'm a GGG (Tahoe in NARS, between Honey and Golden in BB, Tan in LM, etc.) but I'm also tan now so I couldn't decide between 7.5 and 8 so I got samples of both. Tried the 7.5 first and it was WAY too light ... and not just light but chalky on me. Tried the 8 next thinking it would be perfect but it also had a chalky cast to it. I always have a lot of yellow in my skin but because I'm tan, it's even warmer with more golden tones so the Naked Skin doesn't work for me at all. There's just not enough yellow it in. I did wear it out for a day and besides the color not matching, I wasn't impressed with the lasting power ... I'm oily in the t-zone and my face was a mess after a few hours. This didn't work at all for me but maybe it will for you.

Concealers -Three Custom Color Specialists - Cream Concealer
deelasoul 8/22/2010 11:40:00 AM
I had 3C make me a customized color of the Cream Concealer. I sent them a sample of NARS Sheer Matte foundation in Tahoe, which is a perfect color for my skin and they did a good job matching it. The formula is fairly thick but blends easily. The coverage is great but my one complaint is that it's a bit oily. I dust with powder, which helps. I either use it alone and just cover my trouble spots, or, when I need extra coverage, I used it over the NARS foundation. It wears well and looks great for hours. Definitely recommend!

Lipstick -Bobbi Brown - Creamy Lip Color in Dark Chocolate
deelasoul 3/4/2008 9:27:00 PM
So I was REALLY excited when BB introduced the Creamy Lip Color line. I'm a lipstick kinda gal so I'm always on the hunt for the elusive combination of the perfect formula and perfect color.
I thought this was it. I loved the idea of the creamy formula -- I tend to have dry lips and need a lot of moisture. And I thought Dark Chocolate would be close to BB's tinted lip balm shade in Hazelnut, which was perfect for me (but the balm itself is drying). I was wrong on both counts.
First, the formula is really weird -- it's thick, hard to apply and cakes on my lips. Oddly, like the tinted lipbalm, my lips feel dry after it wears off.
Secondly, the color is just atrocious. It's a really dark brown. For reference, I'm a GGG with pigmented lips and this is too dark even for me -- it made my teeth look yellow. Ugh.
My advice? Pass on this one.

Lip Treatments -Jane - Be Pure Mineral Lip Balm
deelasoul 1/24/2008 11:13:00 PM
Woo-hoo! I'm so glad I finally found this. I saw a few posts about it on the makeup board and starting prowling Rite-Aid searching for it. I missed it the first time I went because it was tucked away in the corner of a display shelf but I finally found it after going through all the shelves at least three times. I chose Deep Amber because it looked like the darkest shade. I'm a GGG with pigmented lips so I really need a punch of color or it won't show up.
Okay, so the pigment isn't great. Deep Amber is a rosey brown that colors my lips slightly but gives them a nice, subtle shine.
The best part is that it really moisturizes well. It feels light, not overly greasy, and lasts for a reasonable amount of time. I definitely recommend it ... I just wish it was a bit more pigmented.

Lip Treatments -Bobbi Brown - Tinted Lip Balm -- Hazelnut
deelasoul 12/4/2007 9:03:00 PM
First off, let me say that I'm a lip balm fanatic. I've tried so many that I probably wouldn't have to buy lip balm for the rest of my life if ... well, I wasn't a fanatic! LOL That said, I thought I'd finally found my HG of HG lip balms when I first tried this so I was extremely disappointed when it turned out I was wrong.
For starters, the packaging is really nice. Black lacquer tube that feels chic for a balm. I loved whipping it out.
Next, the color was fabulous for me. I'm a GGG with pigmented lips and Hazelnut is a dark-ish plummy brown. Not sure how it would look on fairer skin tones, but on me it was MLBB and with more oomph. I have natural red in my lips and Hazelnut neutralized it so my lips looked sexier.
So far, so good ... right? I thought so, too, until I noticed that after wearing it for about an hour, my lips felt DRY. Yep. I couldn't believe it! How on earth does a lip balm take AWAY moisture? I'm not sure, but this one sure does. I was so disappointed that I even chatted with a BB consultant who said, "Bobbi thinks her Tinted Lip Balms are hydrating enough." LOL. Okay ... she may, but I don't!
Sadly, I returned it. So close yet so far ...

Lip Treatments -MAC - Lip Conditioner
deelasoul 11/24/2007 10:59:00 AM
I'm a lipbalm junkie and have probably tried dozens of them so I know what I like in a lip care product ... and what I don't.
I love Lip Conditioner. I'm a subconscious lip licker so my lips are often dry -- a swipe of the Conditioner makes them feel 100% better. It's moisturizing without being too heavy and gives my lips a subtle sheen. I haven't noticed the smell so I guess it's fine.
My one gripe is that I need to reapply more often than I'd like, but given the results, I deal with it.

Eye Shadow -Becca - Powder eyeshadow in Brocade
deelasoul 11/24/2007 10:49:00 AM
I'm more of a subtle eye shadow girl so this color suits me perfectly. I'm a GGG so Brocade shows up as a lovely, shimmery wash on my lids. It's a gorgeous mid-tone bronzey-gold with just the right amount of oomph. Very subtle but beautiful.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast
deelasoul 10/29/2007 11:36:00 PM
Okay, so I totally fell for the hype :P
Since I had a baby last year, my mu obsession completely went away (I'm lucky if I get to put on lipgloss) so I don't even post on the mu board anymore. I still lurk though and started noticing tons of posts about Lash Blast. Well, the old mu junkie in me reared her ugly head. Before I could talk myself out of it, I took my baby to CVS and cruised the end caps until I saw the orange tube. Funny how that "score!" thrill never really goes away, isn't it?
In any case ... it's a fine mascara. Not great, not HG in my opinion, but certainly serviceable. I have fine, long, curly lashes so all I truly need is volume. I get *some* with LB but far more with L'oreal's Voluminous or even Maybelline's Lash Stylist. It's easy to apply, doesn't clump, doesn't seem to flake and washes off pretty easily. I'm glad I found it but wouldn't buy it again.

Lotions/ Creams -Crabtree & Evelyn - Jojoba Oil mositurizing body lotion
deelasoul 10/19/2007 2:09:00 PM
While I love the clean, crisp smell of this lotion, it just isn't moisturizing enough. It's watery and thin and doesn't feel especially pampering. Because I love the scent, I use it over my beloved Kiehl's Creme de Corps but never alone because it leaves my skin feeling too dry.

Lips -Laura Mercier - Lip Stain in Mocha
deelasoul 9/24/2007 12:07:00 PM
I love lip stains so I was really excited when LM introduced this one. Sadly, I wasn't impressed. The color was fine -- a warm burnt brown -- but after wearing it for about 20 minutes, I noticed it was drying out my lips, which got even worse after it wore off completely. Nice idea but it doesn't deliver.

Lotions/ Creams -Kiehls - Creme de Corps
deelasoul 9/10/2007 8:24:00 PM
I've been using this for at least 10 years. I got hooked when I had a friend who worked at Kiehls and would give it to me by the vat-ful. I've a huge lotion junkie and have tried tons and tons of different brands but I always come back to Creme de Corps. I tend to have dry skin and there's nothing else that leaves me skin feeling as soft. Really, it's just like velvet.

Styling Products -A/G - Recoil Curl Activator
deelasoul 5/7/2007 8:48:00 PM
I'd been dying to try this after reading all the great reviews here and on naturallycurly.com but I was afraid of spending even more money on yet another product that doesn't work. I was lucky enough to finally get it in a swap and I couldn't be happier! I have bra-strap-length 3b/c fine hair that's color treated so I'm always fighting frizz and dullness. Re:coil not only gives me more definition but also tons more shine. I do use a PM gel over it when I need more hold, but overall, I'm thrilled.

Mascara -Maybelline - Lash Stylist Mascara ] [DISCONTINUED]
deelasoul 4/14/2007 10:46:00 PM
So to my surprise, I really like the little comb in this mascara. I have thin lashes that are long and curl naturally so I need VOLUME, more than anything. Lash Stylist isn't the most plumping mascara I've ever used (I get more volume with L'Oreal Voluminous), but it's definitely the easiest to apply. Using the comb, II can get each lash with very little clumping. I've learned I need to use a light hand and go slowly. My one gripe is the mascara itself ... it flakes and is really difficult to remove. With other mascaras I'm able to just wash my face and take off any leftover mascara with an Almay eye makeup remover pad. But with Lash Stylist, I have to use Bobbi Brown eye makeup remover first, then wash my face and then use the Almay pads. It's annoying so I only use it on special occasions.
