Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - Mekhala - Body Lotions
dawnwong 6/20/2012 4:13:00 AM
This lotion absorbs really quickly and doesn't leave any sticky icky feeling. Quite impressive in Singapore's humid weather. But this also means that it is quite light and you'll need to pile it on for harsh, dry winters. Comes in 2 versions - Anti-aging Black Rice and Nourishing Young Rice Milk. I've tried both and I prefer the Black rice one mainly because of the scent. The black rice one has a frangipani scent and the lotion is lovely lavender colour. The young rice milk one has a jasmine scent which I don't fancy as much, and is a white/cream colour. I don't know if it's weird, but it feels like my skin is drinking up the lotions when I apply them. Previous ones I've tried like the nivea creme, crabtree and evelyn, and l'occitane tend to be a bit too heavy. Closest texture would be the vaseline lotions. Comes in a pump bottle which is convenient. These lotions are artificial additives-free which makes me feel safe and like I said in my review of their cleanser, I like their environmentally and socially conscious vision.

Cleansers -Unlisted Brand - Mekhala - Tamarind Facial Cleanser
dawnwong 6/20/2012 4:02:00 AM
Many drugstore brands and even high end brands tend to cause reactions when used on my sensitive skin. Clogging, breakouts, itching and so on. So far this cleanser has kept my skin clean without problems. Am convinced it's the chemicals in other products that have been wrecking my skin all this time. (This cleanser claims to be 100% natural, no parabens, sulphates or artificial additives.) I've noticed that my skin feels softer after washing. It's even softer than after I use a face sheet mask. I find that it also soothes my skin which is prone to redness after I'm done picking at it. I wear a lot of heavy make up and this removes all my liquid foundation and most of my eye make up which is great. Comes in a pump bottle with a cap which is great for hygiene. Water doesn't get into it easily so the freshness is preserved in a damp environment like the bathroom. The scent is very light and slightly sweet, probably from the organic tamarind and honey ingredients. It seems they are also environmentally and socially conscious, which I appreciate. They call it being mindful. Mekhala is an Asian brand. The bad thing is it's quite hard to get a hold of. You can probably only get it from their online store IF there are no shipping restrictions in your country.

Eyeliner -Revlon - Colorstay Eyeliner

If you're looking for a long wearing, convenient product, this is definitely it. I had the black and it was black. Stays on for a long long time. Pencil is the twist-type with a fine lead so no sharpening required. Sleek black packaging looks good in the powder room. Price is super affordable. Great alternative to liquids and gels. Not good for smudging.

Loose Powders -Anna Sui - Loose Powder
dawnwong 6/20/2012 3:39:00 AM
I got this as a gift. First reaction was that I love the packaging. It's just so pretty. You can't take it with you like the twist top ones but you can always transfer some to a small container. I have the one with shimmer. Made me look fat when I tried using it all over my face, glowing like the full moon. But then I discovered that this works great as a highlight under the eyes, high on the cheekbones or dabbed on the forehead. I still have loads left but I imagine I will repurchase when I'm out.

Blush -Shiseido - Majolica Majorca puff de cheek macaron
dawnwong 6/20/2012 3:36:00 AM
This blusher comes in the prettiest tin with a cute yet functional puff. You have to love Japanese attention to detail. The plastic separator comes printed with instructions to keep the separator in the tin to keep the puff clean and prevent loss of powder. The powder requires patience to blend in and also fades quite easily. You can get quite a rich colour if you layer. I have this in Peach Macaron PK301 which I find goes well with coral lippie. For the price and prettiness, having to reapply throughout the day might not be so bad.

Lips -Shiseido - Water in Lip
dawnwong 6/20/2012 3:31:00 AM
This moisturizers my very stubborn flaky lips which is so important for me. Even the vaseline petroleum jelly ones don't do as good a job. No scent, just slight tingly feeling. Only problem is I can't wear it under lippie cos it makes lipstick slip. Good for daily use.

Treatments -SKII - Facial Treatment Essence
dawnwong 6/20/2012 3:16:00 AM
I don't know if it's cause I want to see the difference, or if it really works, but I do notice my skin turnover rate accelerate when I use this. Helps my skin recover from blemishes more quickly which I love. The dispenser is just a hole at the top of the bottle which makes it difficult to control the amount that comes out. I know you should use a cotton pad to wipe your face with this, but I don't like tugging on my face unnecessarily. So I just pour out some in my palm and pat it into my face. Just gotta be careful not to let it back wash so bacteria from your hand doesn't contaminate the rest. Am on my second giant bottle. Lasts quite long cos I find I don't need as much using my method of application.

Moisturizers -SKII - whitening source brightener
dawnwong 6/20/2012 3:13:00 AM
I liked this. The twist cap dispense is great for hygiene purposes. When I get to the end, I yank it off and dig into what's left so as not to waste. Went through 2 bottles of this until I started using a bit more per use and noticed it was clogging my pores. I couldn't stick to using less because my skin is too dry so I had to look for an alternative. Am currently using the Cellumination series.

Moisturizers -SKII - Cellumination Deep Surge
dawnwong 6/20/2012 3:10:00 AM
So far so good. I love the light texture of this gel. It hasn't clogged my pores or cause any breakouts and I've been using this for 2 months. I don't like the spatula which is annoying to keep clean. Would prefer a pump or squeeze bottle, though it won't look as luxe. I would repurchase except it's too expensive. Looking for cheaper alternatives.

Skincare - Face -SKII - Facial Clear Lotion

Terrible. My skin reacted badly to this. Probably due to some chemical or alcohol in it. Used over a week, my skin got itchy, red and blotchy. Not recommended for sensitive skin.

Cleansers -SKII - Facial Treatment Cleanser
dawnwong 6/20/2012 3:06:00 AM
You either love SKII or you hate it. I love it. I go to their spa for facials and use a whole range of their products. Only thing I do not love, is the price. Which is why I've stopped buying this cleanser. This cleanser works well. It doesn't break out my sensitive skin. And the smell is therapeutic (although some may say it smells odd). But be careful if you leave it cap down in the shower because water gets it real easily and it will turn foul. I'm still using the miracle water etc. but I find it's no harm using a cheaper alternative.

Misc Beauty Tools -Shiseido - Eyelash Curler
dawnwong 6/20/2012 3:01:00 AM
I'm using my second one now because I misplaced the first one. This thing is super sturdy. Even if I dump it in my make up pouch, no problem at all. Best of all, it's the right size for my smaller Asian eyes. The Shu Uemura one for example seems made for Caucasian eyes and has a deeper curve which makes it hard to get to the edges of Asian eyes. No such problem with this one. Price wise, it's not super cheap, but considering how long it lasts, it's really OK.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express Turbo Boost Waterproof
dawnwong 6/20/2012 2:56:00 AM
Great value for money. It's truly waterproof as it claims. Doesn't cause my Chinese lashes to go limp even after curling. Plumps up my lashes adequately. Friendly on my wallet. Love it.

Concealers -MAC - Studio Sculpt [DISCONTINUED]
dawnwong 6/20/2012 2:54:00 AM
I'm using my second bottle of this. I have it in NW20 for my fair-ish oriental Asian skin. Maybe cos it's old, but I've noticed recently that it's clogging my pores quite badly. But the cover is good for big blemishes and scars. Not good for under eyes as it gets cake. Colour doesn't blend as well into my Make Up For Ever foundation but t might get another simply because the price point is friendlier.

Eye Shadow -Estee Lauder - Pure Color Eye Shadow - Ivory Box
dawnwong 6/20/2012 2:51:00 AM
I love this shade. It's the best neutral shade I have ever tried. One complaint is that the shadow tends to crumble easily. Happened to both Pure Color Eye Shadows I had. But because this colour is light, it didn't dirty my make up pouch as badly. The mirror is quite useless because it's so small, and the powder tends to blur it up anyway. The latch on the case worked well mostly until the end of its life.
