Treatments -Pantene - Expert Collection Age Defy Advanced Thickening Treatment
rated 5 of 5
dancerunner 12/5/2012 10:58:00 AM

This thickener worked to make my hair appear and feel thicker the very first time I used it. I have continued to use it for a week now and I do not see any significant additional improvement. But the product works so well and works instantly, so I will continue to use it whether or not it has the long-term effects that Pantene claims. I am really wild about this product and thrilled that for me it has no negative effects -- no stickiness, no flaking, no build-up, no damage to my hair. When I use it along with the Pantene AgeDefy Conditioner, my hair feels really thick and luxurious. When I use it with my Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy Strong Lengths conditioner, my hair gets great shine from the Clear conditioner and great body from this Pantene Thickening Treatment. I would say the thickness is greater with the Pantene Conditioner and the shine is greater with the Clear Conditioner. I alternate so I can enjoy both. I have been disappointed to see the price of this Thickening Treatment skyrocketing from $18.99 to $24.99. If it continues to rise, I may not repurchase even though I like it so much.

Lipstick -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Last Lipstick
rated 5 of 5
dancerunner 11/2/2012 5:43:00 PM

Love, love, love this lipstick! My great thanks to the MUA community for bringing it to my attention. It is matte, but not the least bit dry in my opinion. It feels luscious on the lips. In fact, my usually chapped lips have stayed well-hydrated since I started using these. Staying power is good enough, better than most but not truly all-day-lasting. I would say you can count on something like 4 hours, which is fine by me. Love the colors, especially the lovely neutral nude 902C (Bare It All), my go-to daily wear medium neutral mocha 914C (Mocha-licious), the lovely plummy 916D (Ravin' Raisin), the magnificent deep berry 918D (Cherry Bomb), and the vampy dark-blackish-purple 919B (Vamp It Up). I have been stunned at the wonderful feel of this lipstick. It feels really expensive yet I've purchased it for anywhere from 75 cents to $2 at various drugstores and even grocery stores. Packaging is cheap and difficult, but oh baby, who cares when you get to the lipstick itself! Comes in something like 20 colors. I will keep buying as long as Wet 'n' Wild keeps making it.

Skincare - Body -Weleda - Sea Buckthorn Body Oil
rated 4 of 5
dancerunner 9/5/2011 5:43:00 PM

Other reviews that suggested this oil was too thick and/or had an unpleasant fragrance slowed my purchase, but I finally took action when Amazon offered this moderately pricey oil at a great price in its Subscribe & Save program. I am so happy I finally took the leap. I have impossibly dry skin on face and body. My face, neck, hands, arms moisturizing habits are good. But I have never been one to give enough attention to my legs. With this wonderful oil, I can moisurize my legs quickly, so they don't get ignored. I even use the oil on my face when I'm not wearing makeup. I find the oil light, refreshingly fragrant (mandarin and orange scents), and delightfully moisturizing. It totally works for me. I gave only 4 stars because I have no idea what the percentage of sea buckthorn is. I know the bulk of the oil is sesame, so the sea buckthorn must be substantially less than 49%. I don't know what long-term effects this oil will have on my skin, but in the short term it is doing a terrific job. LOVE IT!!!

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast
rated 1 of 5

So mascara formulations and applicators have moved back in time and down in quality. Why? It's the 21st century. No reason to manufacture such a junky product with such a clunky wand. Even though I paid $3.33 for it, I wasted my money. UPDATE after continuing to try this mascara off and on for months. I still hate it. It flakes. The brush is so very bad I have to wonder what CG's reason for using the design could possibly be. I can only conclude that the whole package is cheap for them to manufacture. It is such a bad product!

Brows -Ardell - Brow Defining Powder - Mink Brown
rated 4 of 5
dancerunner 11/10/2008 6:02:00 PM

I am blonde, so there's no way I would or could use this product for my brows. But it makes a great powder eyeliner. I moisten the tiny brush that was included and run it across the rich, brown powder. Then I line the outer half of both my top & bottom lids. Works beautifully. No smudging. No nervous, uneven lines. A terrific and versatile product. I also sometimes use it as a deep contour shadow in my upper lid crease. And as if it wasn't cheap enough already, I bought it at half price. A steal!

Lip Liners -Paula's Choice - Longlasting Lipliner (all colors)
rated 1 of 5
dancerunner 11/9/2008 12:23:00 PM

I tried 3 colors. Only the mocha was even mildly acceptable. The lipliner is dry, hard to apply, and barely shows any color. The pink-toned one made my lips look chapped. They can't be used without a lipstick or gloss or other "topper." They don't make other lipsticks last. They don't stop lipsticks and glosses from bleeding. So what are they good for? I couldn't find a use. One more disappointing cosmetic product from Paula Begoun. I really doubt her ability to formulate products and have serious concerns about her esthetic awareness.

Eye Shadow -Paula's Choice - Soft Matte Eyeshadow [DISCONTINUED]
rated 1 of 5
dancerunner 11/9/2008 12:15:00 PM

I tried five colors. Not one was as shown on Paula's website. The shadows are smooth enough, but there is almost no pigment. The lights go on like a fine face powder. The darks show almost no color at all. What a disappointment!

Styling Products -Pantene - Thickening Spray
rated 4 of 5
dancerunner 9/7/2008 11:06:00 PM

Love this Thickening Spray. My hair is fine, limp, unruly. This spray makes it manageable. Not at all sticky. No lingering smell. Easy to use. Sorry to learn it's been discontinued. If there's something similar on the market, I'd love to hear about it.

Liquid -Giorgio Armani - Luminous Silk Foundation

I have very, very dry skin and LOVE this foundation. However, I live in the mountains and don't have a retail outlet within 100 miles, so I only purchased a sample on eBay. I LOVED it. Wish I could find another source close by.

Lipstick -Max Factor - Lipfinity
rated 5 of 5
dancerunner 11/7/2005 5:46:00 PM

My impression is that most of the reviewers here at MUA are young and hip. Well, I'm not-so-young but still hip and I agree with the reviewers who love Lipfinity. This is a stay on-stay put lipstick. For those of us of a certain age a lipstick that doesn't migrate away from the lips is a blessing. It took me a while to learn how to apply it, but once I got the knack (and there are some excellent suggestions among the reviews here at MUA), I have been very pleased. I use Lipfinity as a base. Most of the time, I apply it very thinly all the way to the edge of my lipline. After it dries, I apply the creamy topcoat. Then I apply a layer of lipstick of my choice in the center of my lips or just inside the lipline. This way I get all the variety of color that other lipsticks offer but I get the staying power of Lipfinity.

Mascara -Revlon - Colorstay lash tint [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
dancerunner 11/7/2005 5:35:00 PM

Watch out with this product! If you use this wrong--which is to say like a regular mascara--you will work like the dickens to get it off. But if you use it just for accent and "finishing" after you apply your regular mascara you will get outstanding results. Note that this isn't called a "mascara" but a "lash tint." And it's promoted as having multi-day staying power. If you have thin, straight lashes like I do, you won't want to use this as a mascara because it will make your lashes dark, thin and hard (in appearance and to the touch). But if you have eyes that water or cause mascara to smudge, you can use this lash tint to fill in at the corners and/or on the tips. Removal is difficult. I start with Vaseline, which I leave on for quite a while then I do the rest of the removal with a commercial eye makeup remover like Maybelline Expert Eyes oily remover.

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara Waterproof
rated 5 of 5
dancerunner 11/7/2005 5:22:00 PM

I totally agree with "softgrey" on this mascara. It is terrific. Now if I could only get a little more "life" out of a tube. I have found that nothing else compares. Most mascaras smudge under my eyes (whether I use moisturizer, foundation or not). Full 'N Soft waterproof doesn't smudge. I also have very straight eyelashes that will not hold a curl with any other mascara. With this mascara, I curl the lashes, apply the product and the curl stays all day. A tube of the waterproof doesn't last a long time because it fairly quickly becomes dry and lumpy, but during the first few weeks, it is a terrific every-day mascara. It's easy to remove with plain old Vaseline, but give the ointment a few minutes to penetrate before wiping off. EDITED 8/7/10: I KEEP COMING BACK TO THIS MASCARA BECAUSE I LOVE IT! The wand is excellent. The mascara goes on easily. It lasts. It works without a lot of work on my part. LOVE IT!
