Blush -BeneFit Cosmetics - Bella Bamba
rated 1 of 5
curlywurly89 1/17/2012 8:46:00 AM

I was lusting after this blush ever since it first came out. I was enticed by the lovely metallic box packaging, the tropical scent and best of all the finely milled shimmery watermelon powder that screamed my name every time I looked online at swatches on various blogs. So when I visited my local benefit counter I was greeted by a somewhat pushy sales associate that seemed to wanna shove different products down my throat. It took me a while to convince her that I was only interested in the blush, which she then went on about how much she loves this blush and how they make her cheeks look "3D"?!! Which sounds ridiculous!!! What does she think I am...3??? Anyway I wanted to tell her to tone it down a notch cause I was intending on buying it whether it made her cheeks look 3D or not. Anyway 2 uses later and I began feeling buyers remorse. Now, even though I love my blushes to have shimmer in them, I found bella bamba to be way over the top. I get tons of shimmer fallout on my face, which looks very unattractive. Also, after actually owning it i found the packaging to be cheap and tacky. I hate how the edges look ragged and old and ive only owned fot a few weeks. And finally the smell....it smells like fruit punch gone bad :( So yes, I am definetley not impressed. In fact, this blush actually turned me off trying coralista, which I was planning in buying next if I liked Bella bamba.

Lipstick -L'Oreal - Color Riche Nutri Shine
rated 5 of 5
curlywurly89 12/18/2011 7:37:00 PM

I own 2 of these lipsticks- one is in strawberry juice, which is a juicy tomato red. And the other is in pink rose- which is a frosty medium pink. Now the premise beind these lipsticks are that they are meant to be lipsticks/ lip balms and lip glosses all in one (which i am a huge fan of). Sounds familiar? Well.... That's because a lot of cosmetic brands are coming out with this sort of product- think Revlon lip butters, Clinique butter shine lipsticks, MAC sheen supreme lipsticks and Dior addict sensual shine lipsticks. Now I've tried all of the aforementioned lip products and I must say Loreal lipsticks are equally great. Their moisturising, glossy and the color payoff is unreal. I think that they are on par with all the lipsticks I mentioned. Maybe a tad more slippery than say the clinique or Mac lipsticks. But a little more pigmented than the Dior and Revlon lipsticks. Also the packaging is really cute and elegant, they really stand out in amidst my other lipsticks. I love them. And I would highly recommend them to everyone and anyone!

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Stylish Smokes in Natural Smokes
rated 2 of 5
curlywurly89 12/7/2011 7:14:00 AM

I don't know what all the fuss is about... These eyeshadows are below average. If you are like me and you are mainly interested in the shimmery taupe eyeshadow in the quad I urge you to look the other way... That shadow has no pigmentation whatsoever, it contains some chunky glitter particles that create a ton of fall out. I need to swipe my brush over the shadow 4 or 5 times in order to get it to look decent... Not great... But decent..... Also the shimmery chocolate brown isn't that great either, while it does not create any fallout, it does lack pigmentation, i need to battle with it in order to get good color payoff. The lightest cream color is ok...a little powdery but better than the other 2. The only other color that I like and that I use is the matte dark expresso brown. Contrary to the 3 previous shades, this one blends so well, has excellent color payoff off and actually looks true to the color in the pan. So really if your only interested in that matte brown, then I would say maybe buy this quad? But really a good deep matte brown can be found with any brand so it isn't worth it to buy this whole quad for that one shadow. So yes, this quad is definetley a fail in my book.

Highlighters -NARS - The Multiple in Copacabana
rated 2 of 5
curlywurly89 12/7/2011 3:26:00 AM

Meeh... This is an average highlighter, nothing special or out of the ordinary about it. In fact, I feel this way about the brand NARS in general. Over the years Ive tried quite a lot of their makeup including some of their cult products, but nothing has managed to WOW me so far which is very unfortunate. But anyway back to this product. I picked this up back in July because I heard quite a few people describe this as a very natural and subtle highlight that mimics a natural glow from "within." Well this not how I feel about it. Its consistency is what ruins it for me in that its not very easy to work with since it has a dry consistency, and I feel like when I apply it on my face it ends up turing into a powder which makes it hard to blend. While I do like the pearlescent neutral color of this product, i do feel like it's texture is lacking a some moisture which makes it hard to blend and it ends up looking blotchy and unnatural. Unfortunatley, i probably will never use up the whole stick since you do get so much product in the tube, but since it is a multiple I will try using it as a cream to powder eyeshadow.

Lipstick -Revlon - ColorBurst in 070 Soft Nude [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
curlywurly89 12/4/2011 3:31:00 AM

I never wear nude lipsticks.... And i probably never will! I really just don't see the logic behind them, I mean if I wanted my lips to be nude, I'll just leave them bare. And even if I did want to venture out and wear a nude lip, I cannot for the life of me get it to look good on me. But the reason I bought this lipstick is because i wanted to use it as a base for some of my brighter/ darker lipsticks and lipglosses to make them lighter and more wearable. I llike mixing my lipsticks and controlling their intensity and i find that this lipstick lets me do just that. That's really the only use that I really have for this lipstick. Overall, nice texture and quality. I really do enjoy the revlon color burst line.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Cremesheen Glass-Fashion Scoop
rated 3 of 5
curlywurly89 8/21/2011 11:58:00 PM

I really like this lipgloss... It's a semi- opaque milky baby pink that looks rather hideous alone, but layered over bright lipsticks it looks brilliant! I especially enjoy layering this over lipsticks like MAC's impassioned and Revlon's colorburst lipstick in fushica to tone them down a notch! It is by no means sticky or gloopy- it actually really reminds me of the texture of the Revlon super lustrous lipglosses. BUT one thing I HATE about this lipgloss is the packing.... The reason for that is because it's very deceiving!!! The tube contains only 2.1 grams of product versus 4.8 grams of product in their lipglasses/ lustreglasses/ plusglasses. Granted, the tube appears to be much larger than their regular lipgloss packaging!! Wait... It gets worse... MAC actually charges MORE for their cremesheen glasses than their other regular lipglasses ( with the expection of their dazzelglasses). For that reason alone I will not buy this again... I feel extremely ripped off. Shame on you MAC!!!!

Lip Treatments -LUSH - Bubblegum Lip Scrub
rated 1 of 5
curlywurly89 8/13/2011 7:30:00 AM

This is $10 down the drain.... I feel like such an idiot buying this. Lush scooped 2 tablespoons of sugar into a jar with a couple drops of food coloring and artificial flavours and called it a day!! On top of that...it does nothing for my dry, flakey, chapped lips! I notice no difference to when i use this, it's just another extra step in the morning that I can't be bothered for... It's a complete gimmick!! One thing I will say though that it does smell nice... But that's as good as this review is gonna get... Don't waste ur money.

Lipstick -MAC - Fanfare Cremesheen
rated 5 of 5
curlywurly89 6/23/2011 5:09:00 AM

This is probably one of my favorite MAC lipsticks that i own- in fact it's actually one of my favorite lipsticks in general. In the tube the colour looks beyond boring. Actually when i first bought this a couple of months ago and took it home i questioned my sanity because it looked like the ugliest and most boring colour ever. I figured the MAC MUA tricked me into buying this because it was a crappy colour that they were probably trying to get rid of. I had never heard of it on youtube or seen it get mentioned anywhere else. I was even contemplating on returning it before i even used it but since i hate returning makeup, i decided to keep it and try it. I'm so so glad i didn't!!! Fanfare is a salmony/pinky/corally/neutral colour that's very hard to describe. On my lips though it comes of as being the prettiest medium corally/pink colour that i have ever worn. It's really really beautiful. It complements my skin tone beautifully and is extremely low maintenance, in that you don't need a lip liner or lip gloss to make it work. Also, the formula is fab! Being a cremesheen it's very very creamy and rich in colour! Having said that, I must warn you that this is not the case with all cremesheens, the formula is not consistent. I have a few cremesheen lipsticks that are rather dry and not as creamy and smooth as fanfare. Overall a very nice lipstick, that deserves more love and recognition.

Powder -MAC - Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation
rated 2 of 5
curlywurly89 6/23/2011 12:04:00 AM

I really don't like this powder. Ever since i hit 20, my skin has stopped breaking out as much... I used to have quite bad acne but thankfully my skin has cleared up significantly -I mean i still get breakouts and blemishes every now and then but for the most part my skin is in much better condition now. However, due to my previous acne situation i am now left with minor acne scars and marks that don't look very attractive in my opinion, so for about a year now i have been using Retin-A. Retin- A is a medicated cream that's supposed help peel and remove the top layer of the skin to rejuvenate and restore it to it's original condition. BUT.... unfortunately this cream has left my skin with dry and flaky patches, and studio fix powder emphasizes this dryness 10x more. Now, i understand that this is expected to happen when using products like Retin-A. BUT, i have used other powders (namely MSFN) that really don't emphasis this dryness as much. I also don't feel like this offers much coverage for a powder foundation. I used to buff this in with my MAC 182 kabuki, and all i got was a powdery and cakey mess. The only use i have for this now is to set my tinted moisturiser- and even then i have to be careful. So i always use a really fluffy brush to diffuse the product properly and give a sheer application. And THEN i spray FIX + all over my face to make sure it looks somewhat natural, which is quite a hard look to achieve with this powder. I mean it's just too much work!! I won't be buying this again.

Polishes -China Glaze - Seduce Me
rated 5 of 5
curlywurly89 6/22/2011 1:07:00 AM

I'm slowly getting addicted to china glaze polishes- and it's colours like seduce me that are further fueling this addiction. I would describe this as a deep creamy raspberry red. It applies beautifully, and is actually opaque in one coat. But i like the colour to be rich and intense so i use 2 coats regardless. Seduce me is very suitable for the Autumn and winter months because it's not very bright- I tend to like brighter polishes year round and rarely ever wear dark polishes because i don't feel like they suit me. But this nail polish is not very dark nor is it very bright, it's a happy medium. It's got enough depth to look sophisticated and classy. Topped of with a shiny top coat and it's perfection!

Lip Gloss -Clinique - Glosswear for lips in Kissyfit
rated 5 of 5
curlywurly89 6/21/2011 11:43:00 PM

This lip gloss is among my top 5 favorite lip glosses, it's absolutely gorgeous. I'm loving Clinique make up lately and have tried a decent amount of their products and I've yet to be dissapointed. First off, YES this lip gloss is VERY sticky and quite gloopy...BUT... i like that. Since it does claim to be a long lasting gloss, the stickiness of it contributes to the lasting power. I think people really need to consider that when a lip gloss is marketed as being long wearing, 90% of the time it is going to be STICKY. That's just how it works. The sticker a lip gloss is the better it is going to adhere on your lips throughout the day. As for the colour- its beautiful. Kissyfit is an opaque medium pink so you don't really need a lipstick underneath. It's almost like a liquid lipstick. It's perfect and right up my alley!! Also i love the "wet" glossy look you get with this lip gloss- it gives the lips ultra gloss and shine that i absolutely love. Very nice lip gloss- looking forward to trying out more shades soon.

Blush -MAC - Sheertone Shimmer - Springsheen
rated 5 of 5
curlywurly89 6/21/2011 8:15:00 PM

Springsheen was the first blush that I had ever bought from MAC back In late 2009. Since then I have accumulated more MAC blushes (8, I believe) but springsheen has remained one of my all-time favourites!! Its a very pretty orangey/ pink color with alot of finely milled golden shimmer. Not sure what people mean by peachy/pink- because springsheen has NO peach in it. Regardless, it looks very beautiful on my nc 30 skin tone. In general I love MAC's blushes- I love the different textures and finishes they make, but my favourite finish has to be sheertone shimmer finishes - which is the finish sprinsheen falls under. This texture can be misleading because it may lead people to believe that blushes with this finish are sheer and buildable- but this is not the case! Springsheen is very pigmented- maybe not as pigmented as say plum foolery and dollymix but still considerably pigmented.... It's easy to overdo. Having said that, it is easy to work with because its not pigmented in the sense that you must hastily tap your brush to the surface to avoid getting heaps of product- rather it's pigmented in the sense that you don't have to keep building and building the product to get a proper colour payof. All you need to do is sweep your brush once acrosd the product and you've got enough on there to get a proper non- blotchy colour. Also the shimmer in this blush is very finely milled, so it looks beautiful when the sun hits it. This blush is a great pick for those who have not yet tried a MAC blush and want to get stared. It's a colour that will suit many and is easy to work with - even though it is fairly pigmented.

Fragrances -Viktor & Rolf - Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb
rated 5 of 5
curlywurly89 6/21/2011 9:11:00 AM

Smells sooo nice. The name however is very misleading, Its actually very sweet but not in an overwhelming or offensive way by any means. Its alot more sophisticated than fragrances like Vera Wang princess, Britney Spears Fantasy, DKNY be delicious, Poco Rabanne Black XS and even Miss Dior Cherie. It has more depth and character than any of these perfumes. I know alot of people tend to shy away from fragrances that are described as sweet because it's usually associated with 13 year old teenagers, but not flower bomb. It's made up of a very sophisticated blend of notes that make it a truly unique and classy scent! I also need to give Victor and Ralph props for the design of the bottle, it's absoultley adorable.. But I guess for the price your paying it better be!! Fantastic fragrance and I urge everyone to check.

Liquid -Bourjois - 10hr Sleep Effect
rated 3 of 5
curlywurly89 6/21/2011 7:55:00 AM

This is a nice foundation. I like it. In fact, I'm almost done with my current bottle. However, will i repurchase when it's all gone? Well..... No. While i do like it, i don't love it enough to run out and buy it. I may repurchase later in the future when bourjois goes on sale, but for now there are many other foundations on the market that I'd like to try. What i like most about this foundation is it's coverage. It's rather light and natural. It really does not look like foundation. I'd say it's almost in between a tinted moisturizer and a foundation. It's enough to balance out my skin tone and blur out any minor imperfections. I also like that it doesn't require any fancy tools to "make it work." I only use my fingers and it blends beautifully. BUT..... the major let down with this foundation is the staying power. It's absolutely rubbish!! It looks nice for the first couple of hours but after that it completely evaporates - even with a primer underneath! So i only wear it when i know i won't be out for long which is inconvenient. I actually heard that their other popular foundation- healthy mix, has the exact same problem as far as it's lasting power is considered. For reference- I'm NC 30 in MAC foundations and 73 beige claire is a perfect match!

Eyes -MAC - Paint Pot in Bare Study
rated 5 of 5
curlywurly89 6/6/2011 8:25:00 AM

Bare study paint pot was the first ever MAC product that I had bought back in 2009 along with the 217 brush!! It is what got me hooked on the brand and ever since then my MAC obsession began. Now it's been 2 years since then... And so I'd like to think that I'm rather familiar with the brand -Ive tried pretty much everything they have to offer and honestly not everything is that great. As with every brand there are the hits and there are the misses. But I seriously think that paint pots are some of the top notch products that MAC makes! I'm still on the same pot I bought 2 years ago... And the consistency has not dried up one bit- still creamy like that day I got it. Im really impressed! Although I am a bit obessive compulsive in that I always have to make sure the lid is tightly closed before I sleep... FREAK!... I know... Anyway I use this pp as my actual primer.. And it keep my shadow in tact all day! I love how it gives my shadow a bit of oomph! It also looks lovely alone as an actual shadow. Has a very cool brightening effect!! I love it!! Would hotly suggest to try this out. Just beautiful.
