Fragrances -Jessicurl - Citrus Lavender
rated 2 of 5
crazydiamond360 2/19/2007 5:26:00 PM

I had to write a review of Jessicurl’s fragrances since scent is such a big deal to some of us and the products are kinda pricy, why spend all that money and not be able to use it due to an unagreeable scent? Jessicurl also has the fragrances up for sale individually, like a body splash, so their fragrances aren't just limited to the hair/body products.

Citrus Lavender . I know some people like it but it’s just not for me and reminds me too much of lemon pine-sol. It’s very zesty and joltingly sharp...clean sharp, in the bottle. Once on the hair though, it’s much more tolerable. It settles down into an almost non-scent on me with just a trace of pine-sol. Props for not overcoming my perfume like Island Fantasy does (which is a feat, Dior’s Hypnotic Poison is not a weak perfume). I’ll finish the trial sized products that I have in Citrus Lavender, but I won’t be repurchasing this scent in the future.

Jessicurl description:

Citrus Lavender - Using only pure essential oils of lavender, orange and grapefruit, this fragrance is a good choice for people with sensitivities to synthetic fragrance.

I had to write a review of Jessicurl’s fragrances since scent is such a big deal to some of us and the products are kinda pricy, why spend all that money and not be able to use it due to an unagreeable scent? “Island Fantasy” is my favorite of the two I've smelled and can be summed up in one basic description: coconut (of the tanning oil variety but nicer...sort of like a coconut drink). It’s a nice coconut made soft by just a tad of barely discernable vanilla, and the citrus in it (not as pleasant) is only noticed while sniffed in the bottle or the 10 seconds during spritzing and while it dries on your hair. All you get in the end is a tropical smelling coconut. It’s rather strong, you can be sure those around you will smell it. I bumped the rating down because while I like the scent, it’s too strong. Island Fantasy interferes with my perfume to the point that I wonder if I should even bother with the perfume. (This says a lot since my main perfume is Dior's Hypnotic Poison...*not* a weak perfume.) I will most likely repurchase though.

Here is the description from the Jessicurl site:

Island Fantasy - A tropical blend of coconut, vanilla and citrus, this scent really smells good enough to eat. (but please don't.)

Lip Gloss -Cover Girl - WetSlicks Lip Gloss - ShimmerShell
rated 5 of 5
crazydiamond360 2/7/2007 1:45:00 PM

Shimmershell is identical on the back of my hand and on my lips as MAC’s Oyster Girl (in the tube, Shimmershell looks just a tad more beige). A pretty, very pale whitish/milky light pink with golden shimmer. I love how light and non-sticky this gloss is, it’s a little on the oily side but I don’t mind reapplying often. It conditions my lips like nothing else does and is the best thing for a cold sore for me. I go back and forth between this and Oyster Girl depending on if I want a thinner gloss (Shimmershell) or a thicker gloss (Oyster Girl). I’m on my second tube and will keep repurchasing.

Blush -Everyday Minerals - Bouquet
rated 5 of 5
crazydiamond360 2/4/2007 3:11:00 AM

Bouquet is an interesting color, it totally took me by surprise as I got it in my sample pack. It looks *nothing* like the color in the pot once it’s on my skin. In the pot, it seems like a very muted, greyish-mauve. Once on my skin, it makes a wonderful pigmented bronzer...it’s got all the right hints of terracotta with just the touch of pink that us fair skinned girls need in a bronzer to keep it from looking too orange or muddy. I go *very light* across my forehead, nose and chin and a bit heavier on my cheeks for a sunkissed, sculpted look...no other blush necessary. It’s gorge with a tan...or even just me a shade darker than I am naturally. A great complexion booster/bronzer. I wish it had some shimmer to it instead of being matte, (this is why I rate it a 4.5 instead of a 5) but I can always add in my own shimmer (Everyday Mineral’s Light Pink blush or MAC’s Silver Dusk iridescent/loose powder.)

I wish the full sized packages came with a closeable sifter, but I belive this is something EM is working on and should be out in 2007. The 6 gram package is about 3 inches wide with a pretty pale green lid and a silver EM emblem on top, retails for $8 usd...the 2.5 g is $4 usd.

I’m ppp NW15 and wear “fair neutral” in the foundation for a perfect match, light green eyes, ashy dark blonde hair. Will most certainly purchase a full size very quickly.

Lip Gloss -Cover Girl - WetSlicks Lip Gloss -Peaches N Gleam
rated 5 of 5
crazydiamond360 1/31/2007 11:01:00 AM

I’ve been loving Peaches n’ Gleam for what...3 years now?...something like that. It’s my only Wetslick now, even though I experimented with a few other colors some time ago. Peaches n’ Gleam lays proudly beside my Dior, MAC and Guerlain glosses and is more often than not, what I reach for. This is ultra sheer on my somewhat pigmented lips but it’s silver shimmer is just beautiful, the only hint that I’m wearing anything. The shimmer is just enough to make lips look pretty without looking too suggestive. Thin, non-sticky texture that my long hair doesn’t hate and seems to condition my lips...this is fab for me when I have chapped lips or a cold sore...I swear nothing works better. I find myself reapplying very often but I don’t mind, it’s inexpensive. Will keep repurchasing!

Lipstick -MAC - Sandy B. lipstick
rated 5 of 5
crazydiamond360 1/26/2007 9:02:00 AM

LOVE! I received this in a swap from a lovey MUAer and am SO happy since Sandy B has become a HG! On my ppp, NW15-20 skin, this is peach frosted with gold...imagine Prrr lipglass with gold frost, sex-kitten lipstick! Makes my lips look so pouty and full and of course the color is just phenomenal with my complexion. I love the frost formula (I know I’m in the minority here), and don’t find them to be drying at all. There are very few products I buy backups of, but Sandy B is one of them!

NW15-20, light green eyes, dark blond hair.

Fragrance -Ralph Lauren - Polo Black
rated 5 of 5
crazydiamond360 1/21/2007 10:54:00 AM

Wow! Dark, masculine, *very* sexy, just a bit outdoorsy. I don’t know a lot about men’s cologne, but I know I greatly dislike the ones that are sweet, they’re a turn off and they automatically make me think the wearer effeminate. Polo Black isn’t sweet. It’s also not overly musky, I feel like there’s just a hint of a fruity note (the mango I suppose) that keeps this from going too far over. My fiancé is climber and is a low-maintenance kind of guy with a shaven head...when he wears this, I can’t get close enough. If you love an unapologetic masculine cologne that is as sexy as sexy gets, Black is for you. PLEASE go light on this guys...spray in the air and walk through it. (P.S. For myself, I love Dior’s Hypnotic Poison, Pure Poison and Sage Machado’s Onyx.)

NOTES:
tonka bean, iced mango, patchouli noir, spanish sage, and silver armoise

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lustreglass - Venetian
rated 5 of 5
crazydiamond360 1/20/2007 5:21:00 PM

LOVE Venetian! On my pigmented lips, this turns out to be a very bright sheer pinky-red. Like other reviewers have pointed out, it the same color that your lips turn after eating a cherry popsicle. At first I hated Venetian, I thought it was too bright for me...turns out, I just wasn’t used to wearing bright lip colors. It’s a great bright color for a fresh, fun look. I imagine myself wearing this as much in the summer as the winter. I’m not a fan of the brush applicator, I think it makes the gloss more difficult to apply without a mirror so I rated the packaging at 4. Not to mention, I kinda feel like Venetian is a bit more runny than other lustreglasses. NW15-20, light green eyes, brunette, pigmented lips.

If you’re looking for a beautiful red that’s not as bright as Venetian, has a better consistency and wears a little better, check out Ornamental lustreglass (total HG for me). Overall, Venetian will be a staple in my makeup collection.

Fragrances -Versace - Crystal Noir
rated 2 of 5
crazydiamond360 1/19/2007 5:07:00 PM

Another one I thought I would love, but don’t. I too, am a Hypnotic Poison lover and Crystal Noir seemed right up my alley. My verdict: not sweet enough for me. All I get is earthy, spicy amber and sandalwood with a pinch of orange blossom, so faint it’s only there to keep Crystal Noir from smelling like mothballs. The orange blossom isn’t the bright sweet ray of light in an darker fragrance I thought it would be. I would be satisfied if I even got a creamy gardenia, but where the heck is it? Crystal Noir ends up being a more mature, sophisticated fragrance on me and reminds me a lot of a heavier version of Bulguari’s Omnia. I’ll pass.

Loose Powders -Everyday Minerals - Silk Dust (Untinted ) [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
crazydiamond360 1/14/2007 3:50:00 PM

Great stuff. Gives me a matte look and keeps extreme shine at bay almost all day w/out touching up. Doesn’t look shiny, cakey or feel funky like EM’s finishing dust (which is just cornstarch). I use this over my sunscreen to hide that “sunscreen sheen” and alone (no foundation) quite often and am very pleased. After my 12 year search looking for a finishing powder (and always going without because I had never found one I liked enough), I’ve found my staple.

Love the new containers (large flat circle with a light green lid and silver emblem)...I can just pop in a powder puff to make the case portable. I’ve also gone to the craft store and bought a mirror to glue in the lid to make a compact. I will most definitely repurchase...I imagine this always being in my makeup case.

Fragrances -Liz Claiborne - Curve Crush for Women
rated 1 of 5
crazydiamond360 1/11/2007 1:04:00 PM

Mixed feelings about Curve Crush...tried it on in the store and liked it enough that I bought a small bottle. However, I often feel like it’s too powdery (coming from a girl who likes her powders and wears them well). It is in the same category as VS Heavenly, but Heavenly is a much more well rounded, better composed scent. Curve Crush is, as one reviewer said, kind of like a grown up version of Love’s Baby Soft, powder, musk with a dash of sweetness. I don’t get any fruits, vanilla or anything else other than a very faint underlying sweet floral which is overwhelmed by powder and a soft musk. Add to the fact that the bottle doesn’t come with a cap which I find unforgivably tacky (there is a removable plastic ring to keep the atomizer from unwanted sprits while traveling). I won’t be repurchasing.

Fragrances -Coty - Sand & Sable
rated 3 of 5
crazydiamond360 1/7/2007 9:41:00 AM

I’ve yet to form a clear impression from it, but definitely one of the drug store’s best kept secrets. Clean yet softly romantic with creamy white flowers, a bit of powder and clean musk, it’s not the typical screaming sexy scent I’m used to. It feels sensuous and slow to me...like taking your time and savoring everything kind of slow. I’m trying to get used to softer more delicate perfumes since my HG’s are mostly down and dirty and loud. Unfortunately it's easy to over apply and it’s nearly impossible for me to find. A holiday sale was going on and I got a 1.5 oz for $5 (normally priced at $11 or so). I imagine myself buying this again, but it'll take a long time for me to go through a bottle since i rarely wear it.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lipglass in Oyster Girl
rated 5 of 5
crazydiamond360 1/5/2007 10:52:00 PM

A nice color but not HG. A very pale, whitish/milky pink with gold shimmer. The pink is the color of “Pretty Please” lipstick, and the gold shimmer is like that in “Nymphette” gloss. A great color for toning down pigmented lips...very sheer, sheer enough that it doesn’t wash me out, shimmery enough that I can see something’s there. Surprisingly, it’s extremely natural looking on NC15 me. Oyster Girl doesn’t knock my HG out of it’s place but it’s my pale gloss of choice...most will most likely repurchase.

Cleansers -Ponds - Deep Cleanser Cold Cream
rated 5 of 5
crazydiamond360 12/28/2006 3:13:00 AM

Wow, Pond’s Cold Cream (PCC). There are lots of products I say I’ll never be without, but like the member below, PCC is my holiest of holy Hgs. I’ve been using it since high school (I’m now 25). In high school I had serious problem skin, cystic acne, dry flaking, the whole ball game. I started using PCC and my skin cleared up within about a month...turns out all the harsh cleansers I was using were simply too much for my skin. My skin is now one of my best features and I’m complemented on it regularly. I rub a small amount of PCC into my skin and tissue off twice a day. No need for a separate moisturizer. I remember this taking some getting used to...I was accustomed to the uber-cleansers that left skin feeling squeaky and tight and the scent. As with any cleanser, I suggest with trying this for a month, skin needs an adjustment period that a week or two just won’t allow enough time for. I'd love to see this come in a squeeze tube option, the whole jar + long nails can get annoying. Nevertheless, highly recommended and HG for life!

Fragrances -Cartier - Delices
rated 1 of 5
crazydiamond360 12/22/2006 4:23:00 AM

Very boozy/yeasty smelling with a pinch of pepper for the top notes and a well blended undercurrent of a floral that’s reminiscent of the old style perfumes. I really dislike this, it’s too mature. If you’re looking for a sexy, deep and mysterious perfume, Delices is not it.
