Cleansers -Clean & Clear - makeup dissolving facial cleansing wipes
rated 4 of 5
cpbcah 10/14/2010 10:04:00 PM

I travel a lot and it's not convenient to bring bottles of eye makeup remover, cleanser, and cotton wipes so these are great. I bought 2 packs of these on sale (buy one get one half off awhile ago at CVS) and I've been using them every night at home to try them out and so far I've been impressed. I have to put in a little bit more effort when I remove waterproof eye makeup but it doesn't sting and doesn't leave a very oily residue like other waterproof eye makeup removers I've used. They're a good size and have a good texture. In the past some of the Clean & Clear acne care products were too strong for me and made my skin red but I haven't experienced any reaction to these so far.

Makeup Brushes -The Body Shop - Eyeliner Brush
rated 4 of 5
cpbcah 10/14/2010 9:09:00 PM

I really love the Body Shop brushes since they're free of animal products/testing and I use this one for lining my eyes with eyeshadow/powders. The bristles are not too stiff and not too soft but it's a little bit too big to use with gel liners (and I prefer using a flat liner brush anyways)

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - Zeno Hot Spot Blemish Clearing Device

I didn't really have enough time to see whether or not this helped with my acne because it literally disintegrated. After the first couple of uses, I noticed a crack, then every time I used it I noticed more and more cracks and eventually pieces of the plastic shell started to fall off. Most of the metal hot plate was exposed and it didn't look safe to use so I stopped using it. I followed the directions and after reading the other reviews I'm thinking maybe I purchased a defective product. Hopefully others will not experience this too!

Makeup Brushes -The Body Shop - The body Shop Eye Shadow Blender Brush
rated 5 of 5

I love most products from the Body Shop but I think the brushes are my favourite. Being an animal lover, I try not to use products tested/derived from animals so the Body Shop brushes are perfect. I've had this brush for over a year now, and after using it nearly everyday and washing it several times, it still has retained its shape, softness, and has not lost any hairs. I do like the flat base as I do not have a lot of space around my sink and it's nice being able to stand it up while I'm applying my makeup (instead of lying it on its side and having the bristles touch something).

Eyeliner -Bare Escentuals - Buxom Insider Eyeliner
rated 3 of 5

My friend told me that this eyeliner was excellent for lining the waterline and it worked well for her but not at all for me. It is not at all long-lasting, smears and slides after a couple of hours. One good use I did find for it was lining my upper eyelid (regularly, not tight-lining), and it did last a long time without smearing. I still use it for that purpose but I wish it did what it's supposed to do better.

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Iconic Extreme (Waterproof)
rated 3 of 5
cpbcah 10/2/2010 8:56:00 PM

I was looking for a dramatic waterproof mascara since I live in areas with lots of rain and snow and I was only moderately pleased with this product. It is waterproof and the color stays all day but not the shape and curl of my lashes. It's also quite drying, I think because of the waterproof formula. I've heard that the regular Diorshow mascara was good so I thought that the waterproof version would be good as well. I'll definitely be trying a different brand once this one runs out.

Eye Shadow -Smashbox - Eyelights Trio in Beam
rated 5 of 5

I bought this because I was looking for a coppery eyeshadow and this trio looked perfect. When I wear this over my Two-Faced Shadow Insurance, it lasts all day and I usually get compliments (once from a sales associate at Mac!). The consistency is not too powdery so it doesn't get all over my face when I apply it and it has the perfect shimmer.

Palettes -Sephora - Make up palette to go - bronze tones
rated 5 of 5

Since I'm on the pale side, I'd never ever bought/used bronzers before in my life and I saw this while I was waiting in line at Sephora so I decided to pick one up since it was cheap and there were eyeshadows and lipglosses that I could use. I was extremely impressed with this set. The eyeshadow colours are fantastic, I especially love the matte brown shade and the bright green and blue shades. The variety allows me to create a lot of different looks. When I wear them with either my UDPP or Too Faced Shadow Insurance, they last a long time. The lipgloss shades are nice as well. The bronzer was my favourite, since it wasn't too dark for me to use. I use it to contour and shape my face and it doesn't come out too orange or too shimmery.

Primer/ Corrector -The Body Shop - Skin Primer Matte It
rated 3 of 5

I spend most of my time on the east coast of the US, where this primer works perfectly; it smoothes out my skin surface, helps my foundation stay on longer and mattifies my skin well. However I travel frequently to Southeast Asia and Australia, and it doesn't help much with my oily skin in the heat. I also wish they had a version with SPF, but this is good for when I go out at night (because I've heard that makeup with SPF is bad for flash photography).

Eye Shadow -Almay - Intense i-Colour - Play up the Brown
rated 4 of 5
cpbcah 7/7/2010 5:26:00 AM

I was surprisingly pleased with this eyeshadow. The colours compliment my eye colour and skin tone well, and when I use my Too Faced Shadow Insurance eyeshadow primer, it lasts all day and doesn't crease. I think I have the older version of this, it has a highlighter colour, chocolate brown, and plum (like the 1st picture).

Concealers -Lancome - Maquicomplet (Complete Coverage Concealer)
rated 3 of 5
cpbcah 7/6/2010 1:13:00 PM

The colour I used was perfect for my skin tone, possibly the closest concealer to my skin tone I've ever used. However it wasn't as long lasting as I had hoped it would be. The coverage was good and I liked the texture of the concealer. I absolutely hated the packaging though, those square tubes are terrible. Because it has 4 sharp corners, the other products in my makeup bag shifting around in my purse cause it to open very easily and it leaks everywhere, so I have to wrap it in a paper towel to prevent it from doing this.

Mascara -The Body Shop - Waterproof Mascara
rated 1 of 5

I am extremely disappointed with this because the only reason I bought it was because the sales girl told me how fantastic it was. My number one requirement for mascara is that it doesn't smudge and this one smudged worse than some supermarket brands I've tried. Take your $14, go to Sephora or a department store and buy a Clinique mascara (which in my experience does not smudge at all).

BB Cream -MISSHA - M Perfect Cover BB Cream
rated 1 of 5
cpbcah 6/29/2010 2:03:00 PM

I bought this after reading rave reviews online and based on the recommendations by my East-Asian friends. I was initially impressed by the good coverage, high SPF, and built-in primer, which significantly cut down the time of my morning make up routine. After a week of using this daily, my skin is now quite possibly the worst it has ever been (for reference, I have acne prone/combination skin, I am of mixed Asian & Caucasian ethnicity and in my early 20s). I have several large, painful, and unsightly cystic zits all over my face, in areas I don't usually break out in. I'm now back to my Estee Lauder Double Wear to try and hide the damage. For prospective buyers I suggest asking for some samples (at the department store the lady gave me only one little disposable packet worth to test and it worked fine so I unfortunately purchased 2 of the larger size) to see if it is compatible with your skin type.
