Concealers -Almay - smart shade

As I am approaching nearly 40 years of age (ugh!), I realised my usual concealers were not working for me anymore. They were making my fine lines stand out more. So I was on the lookout for an inexpensive concealer that wouldn't make me fine lines more apparent. I decided to try Almay Smart Shade Anti Ageing Concealer. It lived up to it's name! I use a tiny bit at a time, it goes on white, but immediately changes to match your skin (depending on which shade you need, I use light) Brilliant!

Love it! Definitely did add volume, and loads of it. My straight/slightly wavy hair actually went a bit curly! Hard to believe but true. Sure, it is a bit drying, but that's to be expected from volume shampoos (at least from the ones I've used). If I wanted a moisturizing shampoo, then I'd buy a moisturizing shampoo, wouldn't I? Also it didn't make my scalp itch like crazy, as it does with some other shampoos. It was a bit pricey, $4.95 (Australian) for 50ml. But I would rather spend a bit more on a little bottle, so I don't end up wasting a bigger bottle if I don't end up liking it.

Mascara -Maybelline - XXL Pro Volume Waterproof

I think Maybelline's 5 x the volume, 7 x the volume, is an exaggeration to say the least! If they were true, I would've found my HG mascara by now for a reasonable price! Pros: Doesn't flake, provides good length Cons: Dries out lashes, a bit clumpy, doesn't provide enough volume. Makes my lashes feel "funny", like "stiff".

Toners -Paula's Choice - Skin Recovery Enriched Calming Toner

The only toner that has ever worked on my skin, didn't irritate, left it feeling fresh & clean without tightness or a dry feeling. It leaves your skin feeling moisturised, which I found most toners don't. I have skin that gets easily irritated, and this is a gem. It is a bit pricey in Australia, and the bottle is only 117ml and doesn't come in a larger size. I would still re-purchase, purely for the fact that it works!

Concealers -BeneFit Cosmetics - Erase Paste in Fair

Pros - Matched my skin well, long-wearing, a little goes a long way. Cons - Hard to blend, not a very smooth consistency, have used drugstore concealers which were much better than this! I don't like the packaging, pot is not a good idea for a concealer! I wouldn't purchase this again.

Shampoo -Clinique - daily shampoo

Surprisingly, I really loved this shampoo. It gave my fine, limp hair lots of body and bounce. It left it really clean, too, so I didn't have to wash it so often. I didn't like the smell too much, but that doesn't really matter to me, as I use styling products which cancels out the shampoo smell, anyway. I am dying to get my hands on more of this this, and since it's been discontinued, it's almost impossible to find! I am yet to find another shampoo that works this good for my hair.

Eyeliner -MAC - Fluidline Eyeliner Gel in Iris Eyes

I don't know why I didn't try MAC's fluidline years ago, it's fabulous!! I guess I thought it would be one of those eyeliners that slip off easily - not the case at all! I do apply primer before I put it on, then I apply it with an eyeliner brush. My eyes are hazel/green and this colour really makes my eyes pop. Absolutely love it, and would buy it again and again and again.

Pressed Powders -Maybelline - Dream Matte Pressed Powder

When this first was advertised I thought "No way! That'd be for oily skin and will leave me very dry". But that's not the case at all. The first great thing about it is, that it's very fine. So many other pressed powders are either too thick and/or become cakey when re-applied, this one doesn't. It's beautifully smooth and doesn't alter your foundation. The only one downfall is the packaging. I don't like the powder-puff-at-the-bottom-of-compact design. I think Maybelline could've done better with that.

Concealers -Paula's Choice - No slip concealer [DISCONTINUED]

It's too bad they discontinued this. It's the best I've ever used. It's not too yellow, too pink or too peachy (which I found a lot of other concealers were). Dries to a matte finish, which I love! Looks natural, never creases or cakes. Definitely is the best concealer I've found.

Eyeliner -MAC - Liquidlast Liner - Point Black

It's been said that this was NOT a beginners eyeliner, but I beg to differ. When liquid eyeliner first was released years ago (even before MAC was around), I wouldn't touch it, and when I finally did try it, I couldn't do the line well. I would apply it crooked, then I'd give up and end up removing the whole lot. This one was easily to apply and is long lasting. It really does make you eyes pop! The only downfall is it has a tendency to crease/separate later in the day....

Mascara -Bourjois - Volume Clubbing

I want a dramatic, thickening, false eyelash look. This mascara really does the job for that. Lasts all day without smearing, smudging or running. When I wear this, I have eyelashes that stand out a mile! Pros: If you want really thick lashes this is it! Long-wearing, reasonably priced. Doesn't budge all day. Cons: A bit difficult to remove, not very good brush, tendency to clump (although this may be fixed by combing through the eyelashes with an eyelash comb immediately after application)

Liquid -Estee Lauder - Maximum Coverage Foundation

Fabulous foundation, I have tried forever to find a foundation that suits my fair skin tone perfectly, and this is it! It's long-wearing, and you only need a tiny bit, a little certainly goes a long way! So whilst it is expensive (for me) it will last a long time, I'm sure, so it's certainly worth it. I have quite a bit of redness on my face, and usually it takes layers and layers of foundation to cover it..then I end up with a cakey-looking face. This foundation is lightweight and hardly feels like you're wearing any make-up. Lovely!

Liquid -Maybelline - Ever Fresh Makeup [DISCONTINUED]

This foundation covers very well, is not cakey, and hides minor blemishes and imperfections. The price is right, too! I would buy this again, for sure.
