Lotions/ Creams -Paula's Choice - Weightless Body Treatment with 2% BHA
coralie 8/24/2011 5:00:00 AM
I originally got this product to use on my chest for acne, as well as on my legs and bikini area for ingrown hairs. I now use this on my face as well. I like the texture better than the Paula's Choice BHA gel or liquid I had previously tried on my face, and it is less expensive. It is also great at softening the calluses on my feet. The formula is light and very silky. It is slightly moisturizing, but has a matte finish and absorbs nicely into the skin. I use it in the daytime, under my foundation. It works well under makeup and provides a nice smooth surface. It has no fragrance, colours, or other irritating ingredients. It contains soothing plant extracts like green tea and melon which give it a natural, light, fresh scent. It has a different pH than the BHA products intended for facial use, which gives it stronger exfoliating effect. It hasn't irritated my face at all, and I have found that it works better than the other formulas. It has really helped with both my ingrown hairs and acne. I no longer have any acne on my chest, and I've noticed a big improvement in the blackheads and whiteheads on my face. It also makes my skin feel smoother and helps even out my skintone. The only thing I don't like about this product is that the side of my index finger tends to peel when I use this. I'm sure that could be avoided if I washed my hands after applying.

Eyeliner -Paula's Choice - Constant Color Gel Eyeliner in Smoke

This colour has been discontinued so I got it for 50% off. I have been using L'Oreal HIP gel eyeliner in black. I wanted a softer colour for natural, daytime looks, and to use on my lower lash line because I find the black looks too harsh there. When I first opened the container I thought it looked way too light, but when applied it looks good. It seems to dry more slowly than the HIP liner so you have more time to blend and work with it. I just put it on so I can't comment on the staying power yet.

Eye Shadow -Revlon - Matte Eyeshadow Aubergine

A versatile purple-grey matte eyeshadow. It is a little powdery in texture, but layers well. I usually use it in the crease with Vintage Lace on the lids and highlight. Applied lightly this gives a really natural, almost no makeup look while still shaping my eyes, and making them look greener. It also looks good in the crease with a brighter violet colour on the lid, or used on the lid with a darker, richer purple in the crease.

Lip Gloss -Clinique - Color Surge Impossibly Glossy Pink Champagne
coralie 7/6/2009 3:46:00 PM
This gloss is a natural, dusty rose colour with gold shimmer. It is well named because it is very glossy. A little goes a long way, or you can use a bit more to get that really wet look. It has a very smooth, non-sticky texture. It costs $20 in Canada, which is the only reason I would not repurchase this. I would rather have 2 $10 lipglosses from the drugstore.

Lip Gloss -Maybelline - Wet Shine Diamonds Gloss

Way too sparkly. I like a bit of shimmer in a gloss- this has big, tacky chunks of glitter. It feels rough on the lips and has a weird chemically smell.

Stung and made my face red and irritated- looked worse than just having pimples. Also the gel tended to pill/peel off my face.

I can't believe the packaging actually claims to calm, soothe and reduce redness. This stung so bad it literally made my eyes tear up. I tried to suffer through it to see if it would stop burning after a while, but after 10 minutes I couldn't take it anymore and washed it off.

Scrubs -Clinique - 7 Day Scrub Cream Rinse Off Formula
coralie 7/6/2009 3:05:00 PM
I have sensitive skin but I thought this would be okay because it has tiny, round beads in a creamy formula that should act as a bit of a buffer. But this really irritates my skin. More so than some other scrubs that feel rougher. After using this my face becomes really red and starts to burn. I don't know if I'm allergic to something in it, or if it's just too abrasive for my skin, but I will not be using it again.

Treatments -Paula's Choice - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion Exfoliant
coralie 7/6/2009 2:46:00 PM
I have fairly severe acne and sensitive skin. I wasn't expecting this to clear me up, I was just hoping it would help improve the appearance of my skin a little. Well, it did. I had been using Retin-A and Clindoxyl (benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin) before I tried this product. The Retin-A reduces the number of blackheads and whiteheads, and the clondoxyl helps get rid of any inflamed pimples, but they left my skin rough, irritated and flaky. Then I added the BHA liquid to my routine. I saw even more improvement in the number of blackheads and whiteheads, and I also saw a big improvement in skin texture. My skin is much smoother now and my foundation goes on much better. It also helps to fade macules (the red marks left behind by acne) faster. I have used other BHA products and they irritated my skin or dried it out even more. This is definitely the best one I've found. The only negatives with this product are having to order online, and the fact that it leaves a slight sheen on my face. It dries and feels matte, but makes my face a bit more reflective. I wear foundation and powder over top of this, so it doesn't really matter, but I would not want to go out of the house with this product alone on my face.

Liquid -Cover Girl - TruBlend

I really liked the old version, but the new formula has a dewy finish and a lot less coverage, exactly what someone with oily skin and acne wants to avoid. It goes on the right colour, but within five minutes it turns too dark. I gave it to my mom who has dry skin and she likes it.

Blush -Wet 'n' Wild - Silk Finish Blush - Mellow Wine 833D

I agree with other posters that the best way to describe this colour is dusty rose. It is nice and natural looking on me since it is quite similar to the colour I get when I am naturally flushed. You can see a slight shimmer in the pan, but it shows up as matte on the face. It is very pigmented and lasts well. Great quality for a very low price.

A nice, bright pink with warm undertones. Very pigmented. You have to be careful not to over-apply, and I usually blend it in with my powder brush. Lasts really well. Looks nice when I'm pale or when I have a tan so I imagine it would look good on a lot of different skin tones. Awesome price.

Blush -Wet 'n' Wild - Silk Finish Blush

Super pigmented which I love because layering blush over foundation and powder can make you look cakey. Lasts well- I've never had to touch it up. I wish there were more shades, especially matte since I don't do shimmer on the face. Would last forever, except that they tend to break if you're not careful with them. But they're ridiculously cheap so it's not a big deal to replace.

Lipstick -Cover Girl - Outlast
coralie 7/5/2009 3:56:00 PM
It does last all day. But I find the colours too opaque and it tends to pill. I much prefer Maybelline Superstay. I gave this to my Mom and she loves it, but she's used to wearing those dry longwear lipsticks that don't come with a topcoat, whereas I'm used to wearing gloss.

Lipstick -Maybelline - Superstay lipcolor
coralie 7/5/2009 3:50:00 PM
I have only tried one colour (# 755 Plum) but I plan on buying more. It really lasts all day. I have to use eye makeup remover to get it off at night. I apply it with the wand when I want more colour and use my finger when I want more of a sheer, natural look. I like that it comes with a lip balm rather than a gloss, and I really like the texture of the balm. I have also tried Covergirl Outlast, but prefer Maybelline because it goes on more sheer and doesn't pill. My only complaint is the colour selection. There are a lot of neutrals and plum/berry shades but I wish there were more shades of pink, peach, and rose. EDIT: I just bought this in Coral and I LOVE it! This is going to be my new go-to lipstick. Applied lightly it is a very YLBB colour on me. I have peachy lips and usually the colours that are supposed to look natural make my lips look kind of ashy and washed out. I really like the sheer formula, it is easy to apply and can be layered for a fun, brighter look. When I bought it there were 2 verisons of this colour. I got the one that looked brighter, but when I swatched them on my hand they actually looked very similar. I'm planning on buying a brownish colour and a burgundy in the future.
