Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast Clump Crusher mascara
confuzzled 3/15/2013 3:00:00 PM
What a disappointment. My HG, Loreal Splash Out has been DC'd, so I'm always on the hunt for a new DS mascara. My lashes are pretty good. CG Clump Crusher actually made them look bad. Instead of thickening them up, this wet formula thinned them out by getting a few to stick together so it looked like I had about five lashes per lid. I don't know what the deal was with this formula, but it made my pre-curled lashes stick straight. I bought brown/black to soften my make-up since I'm getting a tad older, but this wasn't dark at all. It was light brown. Luckily I had a $3 off coupon, so I don't feel like it was a total waste of money. Never again.

Styling Products -Unlisted Brand - Freeze It Mega Hold
confuzzled 11/12/2012 7:58:00 PM
I have see-through (at least on top), baby-fine, poker-straight hair. I get lt. blonde highlights to make my scalp less noticeable. Placement is a major factor in going out in public. This hairspray is the best. I've been using it since it was about $2.97 at Wally World. It's now closer to $5. I stock up like you wouldn't believe. To get some height, I spray the top of my hair while standing upside down. And, yes, heavy, daily use will cause noticeable build-up. No biggie. I just make a paste of baking soda and water and mix it with my shampoo and leave it sit for a couple minutes in the shower. If you need your hair to stay exactly where you place it, Freeze-It is an excellent choice.

If I were stranded on a desert island and could only have one perfume, this would be it. My skin eats perfume, but this one at least hangs on for a while. AP is NOT for the faint of heart. It was produced by a lingerie company if that tells you anything. This one, at least on me, is a dark rose/woods scent, unlike anything I have ever tried.

BB Cream -L'Oreal - Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream
confuzzled 9/26/2012 9:29:00 PM
I love this stuff! It evens out my skin tone and looks like I have no makeup on at all. To me, this is very similar to Almay's Smart-Shade Makeup, but the BB Cream provided foolproof blending. I primarily wear this when I'm running out to the gym at the crack of dawn. You look like a fresh-faced you, only better!

Fragrances -Estee Lauder - Brasil Dream
confuzzled 8/23/2012 10:13:00 AM
Not a lot of love for Brasil Dream, eh? I'd been out of the loop, perfume-wise for a while and didn't realize that this one had been out for a few years before I tried it at the EL counter. Not bad. No way was I going to pay the dept. store asking price when it can be found in scads on eBay, where I got it for $9. Disclaimer: my dry skin literally eats scent, so I prefer strong perfumes. That said, the first spray packs a wallop (to me, at least) of gardenia. So far so good. After that fades, it goes more to a citrus phase and ends, in my view, with patch, which I usually hate but can deal w/if need be. In total, v. nice summertime frag. Sillage is good for about 3-4 hours, then it's gone. For $9, an excellent investment.

Fragrances -Dolce & Gabbana - Light Blue
confuzzled 5/18/2012 11:46:00 AM
I have Light Blue. I got it years ago and promptly mowed through two large size bottles. It's a pretty scent but doesn't last long. Frankly, I've had it with $$ perfumes that last about an hour or so (my skin eats fragrance, to boot) . All of the companies that replicate in oil sell LB. Get it from them. Way cheaper and longer lasting. Holistic Springs has a great version.

Concealers -Cover Girl - Olay Simply Ageless
confuzzled 5/1/2012 10:43:00 AM
I was skeptical but bought it with a coupon at Kroger -- which sometimes has the best price on DS cosmetics around! I love the silky feel and the ease with which it goes on. Some undereye concealers do absolutely nothing while others look plastered and settle into fine lines. This concealer is great! It's just thick enough to cover my purplish circles, but unfortunately doesn't last more than a few hours, so I'm deducting a lippie. But for a short jaunt out in the day or an evening out, this is a worthwhile product. I'd buy it again.

Fragrances -Estee Lauder - Azuree
confuzzled 4/11/2012 12:52:00 PM
The first time I smelled Azuree I was a teenager working at a checkout and a customer was wearing it. It smelled like the sexiest baby powder in the world! It's a BIG scent. One spritz on my ankle would do it for me! Unfortunately, it doesn't smell near as good as me as it does on others. There's a pervasive rumor that it has been dc, but it's everywhere! Takes me a long time to get through a bottle, so I searched for the smallest and cheapest available and found this: http://bit.ly/Hs2g8I

Cleansers -Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser
confuzzled 3/17/2012 11:57:00 AM
I had no negative comments about this product, but I had ulterior motives when purchasing it. I bought it for the pump dispenser. I think it's overpriced for being a mild, everyday cleanser, but I thought that from the beginning. After I finished the bottle I bought the generic and refilled the container. Admittedly, I'm nearing 50 and don't have any skin issues other than wrinkles and sun spots (blech!)

Tried this once and thought that it was a fluke that I really liked it since Liz's others never did it for me. Now, nearly a year later, I saw it in Kohl's and tried the tester. I pick up a lot of cedar in this. I love cedar and have been trying to find an affordable version that I can wear daily since fragrance disappears on me. This is it!

Moisturizers -Desert Essence - Jojoba Oil - 100% pure
confuzzled 12/25/2011 10:30:00 PM
After reading all of the glowing reviews I had to try this. I ordered from iHerb, got the $5 off deal and received it on the East Coast in two or three days! Forget pricey face creams. At age 49 I've found my HG. All of my foundations contain SPF, so I'm no longer buying day and night moisturizers. My face feels SO soft and looks dewy. Remember to use it on damp skin; that's the only way it will really work. I'm going to look into getting a huge bottle because I think the next year or two is going to be chaotic with prices and shipping. I'm not running out of this!

Hair Color -Unlisted Brand - Joan Rivers - Great Hair Day - thinning hair fill-in powder
confuzzled 12/6/2011 7:55:00 PM
I've had thinning hair since I hit puberty. No one else in my family has this curse but me. Now at 49, I had to finally do something other than get blonde highlights to provide less of a contrast against my white scalp. Having read reviews about the color discrepancies, I bought blonde for my dark brown hair that's highlighted. Outstanding! My white plastic hair pick looks dirty because it goes over the dk brown powder, but that's a small price to pay for the look of thick hair! If I could find light blonde, I'd try that instead. BB&B carries a limited selection. There's no way it costs the company anywhere near $20 (at BB&B) to produce this. I hope some competitors come out of the woodwork and provide a lower-priced option.

Eyeliner -L'Oreal - Extra-Intense Liquid Pencil Eyeliner
confuzzled 10/9/2011 9:00:00 PM
Wow! Goes on like liquid, wears like iron! After applying either brown or grey I smudge the line with the rubbery end of a Rimmel twist-up pencil and it's gorgeous. Only quibble is that sharpening eats up a lot of product. Dig through your sharpener stash and find the smallest one so you can get a thin line without wasting so much in shavings! This is THE HG of eye liners. Ack! I'm pretty old to have only found it now! But I will buy this again and again (w/coupons)!

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Hayward Enterprises designer fragrance oils
confuzzled 8/14/2011 10:50:00 PM
Definitely hit or miss. Some were great (Calandre, Estee Lauder Private Collection, Creed Royal Water), but others were absolutely awful: Chanel 19, Chanel Pour Monsieur, Rive Gauche (M). The ladies' Rive Gauche smelled dead-on, but within 10 minutes turned into something that you might find at the Dollar Store. When I emailed to ask about the availability of a scent not listed, Laura snarkily replied that no one had ever asked for it. Really? Agent Provocateur? Thanks, but I'll stay with HolisticSprings.com and TheFragranceShop.com.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Auric Blends Egyptian Goddess
confuzzled 8/14/2011 10:36:00 PM
I bought Egyptian Goddess because of the staggering number of positive reviews it got here. And while it was pretty, it was a tad too sweet for me. However, I liked to use it for the gym -- until the second or third day I developed a red irritation on my wrists, neck and backs of my knees. Not sure what kind of oil is in it, but it's the only one I've found that does not agree with me. And while less than $10 is cheap, it's expensive when you have to throw it out or give it away.
