Mascara -Cover Girl - Professional Super Thick Lash Mascara
rated 5 of 5

I already have lashes that are long, thick and curled - wearing too much mascara (ie. more than 1 coat) makes my eyes look very scary. My goal has always been to find an inexpensive (under $8)natural looking waterproof mascara that does not clump. It sounds impossible - it probably is. I've tried every drugstore mascara and haven't found anything. I remember trying Super Thick Lash about four years ago (because I read the reviews here!), I don't remember why I stopped. I guess that I wanted to try something new (also, at the time, I really liked a dramatic look) The mascara gives me thick feathery lashes that are mine, but enhanced. It is perfect for daytime (with 1 coat) and good for nighttime as well (1.5 to 2 coats). I have to emphasize that this is a natural looking mascara that is for volume. Your lashes will look thicker - but not longer - and as since it is pretty natural, it won't likely hold a curl. It is a pretty mascara for everyday and to me, it has been perfect. The only thing is that it is not waterproof - it is marketed as "smudgeproof" and I have to say that this is true. On me, it does not bugdge or flake or anything. It is also fairly easy to remove. The packaging is not the most sophisticated - it has a bright pinky-red tube - but it is basic and gets the job done. I also like the wand - it is not too long nor too thick, it is long enough to be able to get into your lashes and reach the little ones. Before I forget, the brush itself is medium-sized, it is a good size (for me) because you can really go ahead and reach every lash. Also, the formula is neither too wet or dry, meaning that you can put it on and it wont smear all over your face (Great Lash, I'm looking at you) or be too dry so that it can't spread. Overall, I really like this mascara but I don't think it is for everybody. It gives a pretty but subtle daytime look, which is perfect for me. (Anything else and I genuinely do look like Tammy Faye). I will definitely purchase this again, it was $5. The only bad thing about this mascara is that it rarely goes on sale. Sometimes the other Cover Girl Professional mascaras can be had for $3.99 or less but they don't include this one, even though it is also part of the Professional family. (On the body of the mascara it says "Professional" although the emphasis is really on "Super Thick Lash"). Still, it's cheap enough for me to be able to afford it (even on a crazy student budget) every 3 months.

Polishes -Revlon - Crimson Glamour
rated 4 of 5

I love Revlon polishes. They are my favourite. This was a LE from a couple of years ago. It is a deep wine red with subtle gold shimmer. Maybe it's because the bottle is old but the polish was a little thick and streaky on the first coat, second coat got much better and the third coat left me with a deep vampy colour. It's not summer-y at all but then again, I wear brights on my toes all year around, this rich colour makes for a nice change :D

Tinted Moisturizer -Cover Girl - Advanced Radiance Age-Defying Sheer Moisturizing Makeup [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5

I am very low-maintenance when it comes to make-up which is why the idea of a tinted moisturizer is so appealing to me. I bought this in Dark (I am NC44 or 45 in the summer for reference) and I think that the colour makes me look a little too bronzed for my liking. I mean, I look like I just got back from vacation so it will be perfect for summer. On the positive side, I like how light it feels plus that it does not break out my sensitive skin. I also love that this is easily removable (I don`t want to break out a loofah to get rid of my make-up..) and if I had a better colour match, I`d definitely buy again. Otherwise, it`s for summer only.

Polishes -New York Color - Nail Glossies polish
rated 4 of 5
cinnamonstar 2/11/2008 7:24:00 PM

I was looking for a neutral yet shimmery colour for my nails for everyday wear (fyi neutral because it wouldn't yell "hello, I'm wearing polish!" and shimmery because if I made a mistake or a smudge, the shimmer would disguise it, lol) . I am on a super-tight budget so when I found this product in colour 207 Twilight Beige, I was thrilled. I really like the bottle and the rectangular cap, it's stylish even though I paid less than $2 for it. I also like the brush because it applies the colour evenly. The staying power of the polish is good too. Overall, I think this is a good product and I may purchase it again, especially if I see a colour I like.

Lip Gloss -The Body Shop - Lip Gloss Dot - Bilberry Juice
rated 5 of 5
cinnamonstar 8/11/2007 11:41:00 PM

I love this colour and formula. It leaves my lips with a pretty sheer pinky-red stain. It smells fantastic, like berries. Overall, I love this product. You can apply it with your fingers but I like to apply it with a lip brush for more precision. Overall lovely and if I ever finish my pot, I will definitely purchase again.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Volume Exact Waterproof
rated 3 of 5
cinnamonstar 7/6/2007 11:09:00 PM

I bought this for $7.99 at a pharmacy two days ago and I've used it three times. I have it in Very Black. I really wanted to try this and like it but I'm finding it hard to find a difference between this and Lash Exact (LE). To me, they are identical, save for VE is in a burgundy-red tube and LE is in a purple tube. The brushes are identical and the formula is basically the same as well. I don't see how you can get more volume from essentially the same product. Needless to say, I didn't get any more volume from this than LE or any other mascara I've tried (except for L'Oreal Voluminous). I love the packaging - it comes with a cap for the actual mascara part so you can take out your brush and wash it without prolonged air exposure. For the price ($8 for a drugstore mascara is insanity) I expected a lot more. Then again, I've only used this product 3 times and it may grow on me. (That was the case with LE). To summarize: PROS: 1. Great packaging (extra cap plus nice long wand so that you can apply the mascara properly) 2. Makes my lashes very long. 3. Waterproof but washes off easily. CONS: 1. Expensive! (Wait for a sale!) 2. Does not add significant volume (compared to LE) 3. Can still be a little clumpy. Not big clumps but little tiny clumps. I think this is due to the formula itself and not the brush. Conclusion: Overall, an average mascara. You can spend less and get better mascaras, in my opinion. I don't think that I will repurchase unless I change my mind and I end up liking it.

Lip Gloss -Maybelline - Shiny-Licious - ALL colors
rated 4 of 5
cinnamonstar 6/13/2007 9:02:00 PM

I was in my local drugstore the other day when I saw the Maybelline summer '07 collection. It is a collection of bright shades and bronzers, etc. I saw the Shiny-licious lip glosses and fell in love in particular with the colour Berry Exotic - it is a sheer berry colour. I ended it up buying it today before work and tried it on right away. It is a clear gloss with a little bit of a pinky tint to it but since I have very pigmented lips, it is mostly clear on me. A little goes a long way: if I put on too much gloss, I get that shellacked look, lol. At first I liked the smell (fruit punch) but smelled it again and it smells like bananas. Grosss!(Oh well) The staying power is okay. This is just your basic everyday average gloss. I love the colour in the tube and the applicator (the doe foot applicator acts like a brush and I was able to blend in the gloss a little to avoid an overglossed look). I won't purchase again because it was a limited edition product (and I do not like the banana flavour).

Moisturizers -Vaseline - Petroleum Jelly
rated 5 of 5
cinnamonstar 6/9/2007 9:17:00 PM

I use this on my lips in lieu of lip balm or gloss because I have never found a product that moisturizes, doesn't taste like anything as well as give my lips a little shine. Love this, will always use it. TIP: Since I can't find it anymore in the little tubes so I save my little lip gloss pots and empty them out and using the squeeze tube size of Vaseline (ironically called the convenience size), I fill them up. That way I always have a little with me and don't have to lug around a huge tube or jar.

Polishes -Yves Rocher - Couleurs Nature Multi-Reflects Nail Color
rated 5 of 5
cinnamonstar 6/9/2007 9:12:00 PM

I had a pedicure at YR done and I loved the colour so much that I went back and bought it. It is a perfect shiny deep rose (Rose de Caire, which means Rose From Cairo) and I love it. I tried it on my hands today for the first time (I usually only wear brights on my toes) but am impressed with how shiny it is. Plus, it gives good coverage in just one coat. I am pretty impressed with how it works so far. It is a little pricy ($10) but as prev. reviewers have pointed out, you can usually get it for half-price or 2-for-1.

Cleansers -Yves Rocher - BIO SPECIFIC ACTIVE SENSITIVE Derma-Calm Cleansing Lotion
rated 4 of 5
cinnamonstar 6/1/2007 10:55:00 PM

I don't love this because I'm not sure how clean my skin is getting. Like another reviewer said, this disappears into my skin and I have to use a ton. However, it is very gentle on my skin and so far, so good. I'll update when I have more info.

Toners -Yves Rocher - BIO SPECIFIC ACTIVE SENSITIVE Derma-Calm Toner
rated 5 of 5
cinnamonstar 6/1/2007 10:53:00 PM

I've been using the matching Derma-Calm cream for almost a year now and I love it so I thought it was time to try the rest of the line. I used it tonight and so far, so good. Toner usually irritates my skin but I feel like this gets the dirt off while still being ultra gentle. I'll update when I have more to say!

Moisturizers -Yves Rocher - Derma-Calm Day Cream
rated 4 of 5
cinnamonstar 6/1/2007 10:48:00 PM

I am addicted to this cream. I've been using it since September or October. It is a bit heavy for the summer (daytime) but I like to use it during the night now that it is warmer. It leaves my skin very hydrated but doesn't irritate my skin at all. I have NEVER broken out while using this and in general, everything makes me break out. It's great for my sensitive skin. You can almost always get this for 40-50% off (especially if you are a regular client and get the e-mails, etc) which is great because the $25 reg. price is really expensive. But for when I get it at half-off or 2-for-1, it is a great deal! I'm giving this 4/5 because I find that after awhile, if I'm not wearing make-up, I get a teensy bit oily. (This might be because I have slightly oily skin to begin with.)

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in Peach Daiquiri
rated 2 of 5
cinnamonstar 4/15/2007 7:47:00 PM

I totally agree with the reviewer below. This nailpolish is clear with a sparkle-y sheen. I was disappointed because I wanted the pretty peach colour in the bottle. On the plus side, this was $2 so its not like I wasted a lot of money. I will use it as a topcoat only and therefore, I will never need to buy it again.

Lotions/ Creams -Nivea - Nivea Soft Moisturizing Creme
rated 5 of 5
cinnamonstar 2/22/2007 10:48:00 PM

I bought this cream when it first came out (2003-2004?) - I don't remember. I loved the scent, texture and how soft it made my skin feel. I stopped buying it because I thought it was too expensive ($10 for the big jar but I go through the jars quickly). This winter has been devastatingly cold and I needed a heavy duty skin moisturizer so I came back to Nivea Soft. I don't know if it's me but it seems as if the texture has changed. It is much thicker than I remember it to be. It still smells great, moisturizes really well (it just soaks into my skin!) and even though I do find it expensive, I love it and will continue buying it.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Exact Waterproof
rated 5 of 5
cinnamonstar 2/22/2007 10:32:00 PM

I've been trying to track down this product since the waterproof version came out (September-ish?). It is nearly impossible to find!! It gives me pretty lashes (long and curly) and nicely defined. It's a good everyday kind of mascara. Oh plus it removes easily with makeup remover (because Maybelline Great Lash is impossible to remove). I've only used it once so far but I really like it! UPDATE 1/06/07: I started to use this more and more, it gives me crazy long lashes and I love it! It's a little bit hard to remove (I use Neutrogena remover) but I still really love this mascara.
