Lip Gloss -MAC - Lustreglass - Palatial [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5

What a gorgeous colour! A rosy pink with green shimmers-- where else can you find such a unique pairing?? The green shimmers really bring out the rosiness of the pink when reflecting light. It lasts long (until my lunch break) and is not as sticky as the lipglasses; like all lustreglasses, it's less pigmented with the emphasis on shine and tone. Sadly, it is discontinued (I bought it off a friend) but MAC has been known to relaunch certain shades so hope is not lost. If you can get your hands on it, definitely try it! The green shimmers aren't as intimidating as they sound.

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow in Bold Gold / eternal gold
rated 5 of 5

Pretty, wearable gold for a casual day. It's not crazy pigmented but lasts long and doesn't crease! Unlike Painted Purple, which I also own, I found that it maintained its pigment throughout the day.

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow in Painted Purple

Gorgeous colour and concept-- why haven't other drugstore companies thought of this? It lasts longer than my Revlon cream shadows and doesn't crease! I love that it doesn't crease. It's just, after a couple of hours, the purple fades into a light transparent purple. I'd give it 5 stars if it could maintain its pigment.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Colossal
rated 5 of 5
chikababy 4/21/2012 12:15:00 PM

This might be my new favourite mascara! It's clump-free, lengthens, and volumizes. It also dries pretty quickly and I haven't had any smudges or flakes from it yet. The only thing I don't like is the rose scent-- why would anything need fragrance if it goes near your eye? All in all, I still think Maybelline is topping the best drugstore mascara list.

What a terrible formula! It was uneven and goopy and took a long time to dry. I can't even wear it out!

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Xtreme Wear - Celeb City
rated 5 of 5
chikababy 4/21/2012 12:01:00 PM

This is a beautiful shimmery silver! The formula is even and the drying time is quick. It actually chips less than my OPIs to my pleasant surprise. Of course, it's also a bit more difficult to remove~ the shimmers also stay after trying to remove. But overall, it might be my favourite nail polish formula!

Beautiful coral colour but terrible formula! It was too wet and impossible to get an even coat. It was my first Express Finish and my last!

Eye Shadow -Annabelle - Haute Chocolate Trio Eyeshadow
rated 5 of 5
chikababy 12/12/2011 12:29:00 AM

I've been attracted to neutral colours lately and this is my absolute favourite. I love the tone of the browns-- every time I've bought browns in the past, they had been too red or orange which just makes my red blotchy yellow-toned skin even blotchier. These are lovely for everyday wear. I am also loving the fact that two of the colours are matte; it gives an even more natural look. I use the three colours quite conventionally; lightest all over the lid, medium in the crease to make my eyes look more deep set, and the dark shimmery brown as a liner during the day. Even without primer, they seem to last all day without creasing! It does seem to be a rare breed of shadow that really blends into your skin, rather than act as a layer over it. As much as I love Urban Decay's Naked Palette, these are just more travel friendly and 7CAD full price, but Annabelle goes on sale so often, you can usually buy it for less.

Moisturizers -Jason Natural Cosmetics - 25,000 IU Vitamin E Age Renewal Moisturizing Creme
rated 5 of 5
chikababy 12/9/2011 11:29:00 AM

It's winter in Canada~ living in Vancouver does mean I live in warmer climates than say, Toronto or Calgary during the winter months. However, the weather is extremely dry and the harsh winds do not help. I have never found a winter moisturizer for my already dry and dehydrated skin until now. This is a great moisturizer for $10CAD (London Drugs). It's quite a large tub and a little goes a long way. It's true that jars just aren't as sanitary as tubes but this cream is so thick that it would not squeeze out of a tube easily. What I really like about this moisturizer is that it doesn't feel or look oily-- in fact, it has quite a matte look to it. If anyone's ever tried Benefit's Dr. Feel Good, it has a similar texture/feeling. It is a bit sticky on the face, as it is a heavy moisturizer but since I wear foundation and power anyway, it's not really an issue for me. Also, you shouldn't be touching your face anyway. There's not really a scent (I mean there is, but it's not intentional or overpowering, there's no fragrance on the ingredient list). I haven't gotten any unusual breakouts (I'm 20 and acne prone) but I will update if that changes. One thing that bothered me at first was that it did feel a tiny bit uncomfortable on my sensitive, redness prone skin when I first started using it but that sensation's disappeared now, so maybe it was something my skin had to become accustomed to. Anyway, great moisturizer, would buy it again-- next winter.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Shadestick - Tundra
rated 4 of 5
chikababy 9/4/2011 3:16:00 PM

This is an LE shadestick from the MAC Me Over 2011 Collection. Tundra is a beautiful and true silver. The colouring online on the official MAC website does not do it justice-- it's too dark. Tundra is how I imagine true silver to look like. Like most/all shadesticks, it is shimmery with the appearance of a cream shadow but is dry to the touch. It is nearly budge-proof. It did fold into my eyelid creases (w/o primer) but it looked fresh on my eyelid all day long. I love shadesticks in theory; they're less messier than eyeshadows and provide more intense pigmentation. I bought it for 21CAD.

Mascara -Almay - One Coat Nourishing Mascara Triple Effect
rated 1 of 5
chikababy 4/21/2011 2:35:00 PM

I don't think this product deserves the rating that it does. I think that it does what it promises (on my lashes): it lengthens, volumizes, and 'lifts' the lashes. The effect isn't as extreme as its competition in the mascara industry-- but it doesn't promise anything like "7x the volume!" as some other ones do. It does what it advertises. It doesn't exactly curl, but it doesn't weigh your lashes down either. That's the main reason I like it, I believe it's the only drugstore mascara that I can wear on my sensitive eyes. I love L'Oreal and Maybelline but they sting and weigh on my eyes too much. I got this in blackest black, and it's a very true black. I was happy that it didn't smudge or flake on me, even through a full day, was not clumpy, and because it doesn't promise to be waterproof/resistant, it was very easy to take off with a remover. I found the brush strange (I didn't expect it; I hadn't read any reviews before buying it) but it worked. I'm not sure which side is supposed to do what, but the long side seemed to deposit more product while the short side brushed and separated. This retails for about 7CAD. **UPDATE** love revoked! terrible mascara... I may have been wearing rose-coloured glasses.

Liquid -Almay - Smart Shade Makeup SPF 15
rated 4 of 5
chikababy 4/21/2011 2:26:00 PM

This review is for the original formula~ I haven't worn it for a long time but I will update if I suffer any breakouts from this. I actually really liked this foundation. Except, it's not a foundation; it's a tinted moisturizer (which is why I took 1 lippy off: false advertising) which I was aware of before buying it. Ever since CG took away their TM, drugstores are no place to find TMs and I didn't want to pay 50CAD for the famous Laura Mercier one. I got this at my local grocery store for 18CAD/30ml(which is expensive for drugstore cosmetics, but it has no drugstore competition) and it came with the one coat nourishing mascara as a bonus product. I am NC20 with dry, sensitive skin, pretty even in skin-tone; my concerns are usually softening the light purple acne scars) for reference and I used Light because I was afraid Light-Medium would be too dark. It's a nice match, nothing to really worry about since it's a TM. The texture is like a nice moisturizer-- not too watery but not oily either. The actual product is white with little black beads, like an exfoliating scrub, except it melts when you rub it into the skin. I apply this like I would a moisturizer-- with my fingers and set it with translucent powder after. It has good staying power, it feels like skin, and I like the natural finish. A nice bonus is that it has SPF 15 (I usually wear a higher sunblock underneath but 15 is good for temperate climates/fall/spring). If it didn't market itself as a foundation, I would definitely give it 5 lippies~

Blush -BeneFit Cosmetics - Sugarbomb
rated 4 of 5
chikababy 4/19/2011 11:36:00 PM

This is blush has a nice peachy-pink glow, lasts all day for me. I like the packaging... but it's awkward and you definitely can't travel with it. It's just too blocky. I actually like the flat brush that it comes with because this isn't a streaky blush, it's quite easy to blend. Note though, it isn't the most pigmented thing out there~ it's definitely something to illuminate your face with. I got it for free from doing a SDM survey and despite my affection for it, for 24CAD, I would not buy it again.

Cleansers -Bioderma - Sensibio H2O (aka Crealine H20 Solution micellaire)
rated 4 of 5
chikababy 4/19/2011 7:06:00 PM

This is a great pre-cleanser step. I hate finding residue of foundation after washing my face; my regular cleanser is meant for very dry and sensitive skin so I understand that it's not meant to strip the skin of oils, so I use this before my cleanser. I found it at Murale, which is owned by Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada for 22CAD for 250ml. I love the water consistency, the fact that it doesn't smell like anything, and how my face feels soft and tingly after. I took off a lippy because it's not that great at taking off waterproof mascara (I use Lancome's bifacil for that). Despite the price, unless I find something cheaper, I will repurchase~

Mascara -Hourglass - Film Noir Full Spectrum
rated 3 of 5
chikababy 4/7/2011 5:27:00 PM

I think this is my HG mascara... the colour is a beautiful true black, it adds more lashes, thickens, lengthens, holds a curl, there's something about it that dramatizes the eyes. It does seem on the flaky side but I haven't noticed any flaking throughout the day, as long as I don't touch it. It's easy to remove with eye makeup remover.. it's great, I love it-- it's just too expensive. I said I would buy it again... but maybe only once a year. The product is just so gentle to sensitive eyes (which usually get irritated or feels super heavy)! This is a rare find. ** UPDATE ** worn it for a while now and it feels heavy more often than not. Maybe that first time was just a fluke! Also it flattened my curl. 3 stars for the voulme, length, and doesn't give raccoon eyes
