Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - jessica simpson FANCY LOVE 2009

Like others, I smelled this in Self magazine and found myself coming back to the scented page. It's a floral with a hint of vanilla or some kind of musk -- the florals balance it out quite well so that it's not a sickeningly sweet gourmand scent; nor is it a heady floral. After wearing it all day it wears down to a lingering vanilla-type scent. The bottle looks cheap; I'm embarrassed to have it sitting out on my bureau. The name is also very corny, but the price wasn't terrible for an EDP and I got a free bag with it.

Powder -Physicians Formula - Mineral Wear Talc-Free Mineral Loose Powder
rated 4 of 5

I love this product. I've used Everyday Minerals and Pure Luxe, and this stuff is the best deal. The color selection is a bit lacking, and I had to mix some lighter Pure Luxe samples in with it to achieve the right color, but it turned out alright. The coverage is excellent and does not appear cakey. To apply, I actually tap some powder through the sifter into the round lid and use it from there. You only need a little bit, so it lasts forever. I've had it for about three months or so and I use it 5x a week and still have a little over half remaining. For only $11, this is a way better deal than the online retailers, and works just the same if not better. After a few hours I usually need to apply some powder, because it doesn't stay matte.

Treatments -Murad - Acne Spot Treatment
rated 4 of 5
cherryshake290 12/30/2007 12:30:00 AM

I've had acne for about ten years now constantly. I've been to various dermatologists, tried oral medications, prescription creams, retinoids, and over the counter BP and salicylic acid products for acne, but nothing has completly cleared it. Murad Acne Spot treatment is unfortunately not the cure I've been looking for, but it does a great job. I apply a thin layer over cysts or regular blemishes over night and by morning, they are usually significantly reduced (but not always gone). Compared to other spot treatments available like Clean and Clear with BP or others with salicylic acid treatments, the Murad sulfur treatment works much better with less irritation. Usually, this stuff works really well on bumps you can just feel beginning to surface or after extractions to make sure no blemish surfaces. On active pimples it takes about two nights to complete rid the blemish, depending on the severity. It stings a little upon application, especially on spots that are already inflamed or open, but doesn't leave any redness on my skin in the morning. My skin is very tolerant to harsh products, however, after years of using various acne routines. This tolerance usually prevents most BP spot treatments from doing anything over night, but this seems to do the trick. At $14-$17 a tube, I think it's a little pricey because I usually don't buy high end facial care products, but a little goes a long way.

Concealers -Revlon - ColorStay Under Eye Concealer
rated 3 of 5
cherryshake290 12/29/2007 2:13:00 PM

I was not too impressed with this concealer. It's not terrible, it's just nothing to get too excited about. I bought light and the color seem to match rather well, about one shade lighter than my skintone. I used it on the undereye area, but also on blemishes and redness, and I actually was more happy with the coverage on blemishes than on the undereye area. I used the applicator to dab it on, but often too much came out. After dabbing it on, I used my finger to gently pat it in, but every time I did so it seemed the concealer rubbed off or became more transparent, which doesn't happen with other concealers. I always ended up having to use a thick, stick concealer underneath this one to truly cover my undereye circles. ColorStay didn't cause breakouts, and did truly seem to last a long time, but it just wasn't heavy enough to cover undereye circles and the formula is comparable to concealers from every other makeup company that comes in some kind of clickable pen. I'd recommend Physician's Formula Mineral Wear Concealer instead of this stuff.

Misc Beauty Tools -Gillette - Venus Disposables
rated 5 of 5
cherryshake290 12/29/2007 2:06:00 PM

I found no difference between these Venus Disposables and the regular Venus models, and these were a better deal. It was around $8 for three at CVS, but that's better than buying the reusable Venus for around the same price and having to buy the refills. The pivot head works very well, and the blades and moisturizing strip seem to stay fresh longer than other disposables. Only one soft swipe got rid of all the hair with minimal razor burn. I would definitely recommend this product if you like the regular Venus.

I love this product! I was skeptical at first because I tried other remedies (Bikini Zone, different razors and shaving creams, baby powder, deodarant, etc.) but nothing worked like mixing this stuff together. It reeks, and it burns when you apply it usually, but it works within 10 minutes! Continuous application several days after shaving helps soothe the area as well.

Concealers -Physicians Formula - Mineral Wear Concealer in Light
rated 4 of 5
cherryshake290 6/6/2007 5:09:00 PM

Wow! This stuff was surprisingly nice. I bought it because it was on sale when I bought my PF Mineral Wear Loose Powder Foundation. I usually use a stick concealer, because I have hereditary and very dark under eye circles. I don't have a lot of faith in liquid concealers, but this one was amazing! It brightened my eye area much more than my usual stick concealer did, while hiding the circles at the same time. This shade was quite pale -- a lot lighter than the Creamy Natural foundation shade I bought, but once blended it was perfect (I prefer to wear concealer one shade lighter anyway.) On blemishes this stuff worked great, too, although on very pigmented spots I might be tempted to use a stick concealer instead. The only disadvantage is the click-pen. You never know how many clicks are going to be sufficient for the amount of product you want to use, and it's not very hygenic.

Gels/Soaps -Caress - Caress Exotic oil infusions Japanese body wash
rated 3 of 5
cherryshake290 6/3/2007 10:53:00 PM

I got a sample of this after using Dove's Cream Oil bodywash. Caress's version has better ingredients, so I thought I'd give it a try. I liked the formula, but this smelled just awful! I didn't think it was that bad in the shower, but once I got out I was sniffed and wondering what that musky smell was, and then I realized it was me! It lasts after the shower and does NOT smell good. :(

Mascara -Avon - SuperFULL Mascara
rated 2 of 5
cherryshake290 5/23/2007 8:26:00 PM

One of the few Avon products I really don't care for. This mascara has one of those new plastic, spikey brushes and comes in a plain gray tube. The product just wasn't any good for me -- as soon as I begun apply it deposited tiny clumps of mascara on my eyes and when I tried to smooth it out with a second stroke, things got messy. I think this brush has too short of bristles compared to other brands with similar brushes (my fav is Chanel's Inimitable). Overall, I don't recommend this. Cheap package and a very messy application. Plus, the black isn't really that impressive.

Gels/Soaps -Dove - Cream Oil Shower
rated 3 of 5
cherryshake290 5/22/2007 10:12:00 AM

I got a free sample of this stuff through the mail. I recieved Cherry Blossom and Almond. I love the scent, a very subtle cherry-almond. However, to get a rich lather, you need to use a lot of product. Once it did lather, it felt awesome on skin, and a smell lasted outside of the shower for about 6 hours! However, I won't be running out to purchase this, because as other reviewers mentioned, the ingredients are very cheap -- petroleum, and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate among the top three. I'll look to other Oil-type body washes at the drugstore first before purchasing.

Self Tanners -mark - Bronzing Self Tanner in Medium Dark
rated 3 of 5
cherryshake290 4/28/2007 12:21:00 AM

I thought I might have met my final self-tanner match when I heard mark's Instant Vacation Greek Isles Bronzing Self Tanner didn't reek. However, I'm still looking, although I would buy this product again while I look.

First, the scent. Yes! It does not smell upon application. It smells kind of like the fragrance mist, but it's more heady and powdery, and can possibly make you feel kind of over-powered. HOWEVER... although it is not nearly as strong as with other STs, there is still a "self tanner" smell while the self tanner develops after about 1-3 hours. So I would still advise not wearing this during the day, despite its brozing qualities.

The brozing qualities are actually somewhat annoying. It's a really noticable bronze shimmer, which tends to get everywhere. Not cool.

The lotion itself is really more of a gel formula. It's difficult to spread and the bronzing particles tend to congregate in one place if you don't excessively rub it in. However, it does feel nice and light on after it dries. Since it doesn't rub in well it takes a MASSIVE amount to cover the body. I used it twice and it feels like it's half gone. Definitely not as effecient as foam or more viscious formulas.

Also, while it's drying if you go over it again with another layer of ST lotion or if you keep rubbing body parts, the lotion has a tendency to pill up on the skin! Not sure if it will cause an uneven tan, it just happened this once. I hope it doesn't.

And most importantly, the color. I usually am very pale, but I tan easily. If you're familiar, I probably have skin type III, which tans easily. Therefore, this looks rather natural on me. I had a base (natural) tan and used two applications, it got quite dark. I did not use it on my face and will not.

So I don't think it's the best. But oh man, it sure is better than the really, really stinky stuff.

Self Tanners -Banana Boat - Instant Bronze and Sunless Tanning Foam in Light Medium
rated 3 of 5
cherryshake290 4/22/2007 11:34:00 AM

First off, this is a discontinued product, but you can still get it at discount stores and online. It's an instant self-tanner with bronzer and a good amount of DHT that will have you bronze in about 2-3 hours. It comes in a pump and the foam is bronze and not very streaky at all.
First off, the color. The bronzer color is pretty and the actual processing color isn't too bad. It's golden brown, which means if you put on too many applications you could go orange. I put it on twice a week or so to maintain a brown color.
However... I give this only three stars, despite its nice color and non-streakiness because of the smell. Yes, I know all self-tanners smell, but this is ridiculous. I don't know how anyone could manage to leave the house wearing this. The smell gets in clothes, and if you go to bed wearing it, like I do, it makes your sheets stink. The stench is a high price to pay for a nice tan! I will not repurchase, I'm going to look into gradual self-tanners with less of a stink.

Self Tanners -L'Oreal - Sublime Glow Daily Moisturizer and Natural Skin Tone Enhancer Medium Skin Tones
rated 4 of 5
cherryshake290 4/22/2007 11:20:00 AM

**NOTE: This review is for the Sublime Glow 'For Face'*** This is a gradual self-tanner for the face that claims to even out and darken medium skintones. It comes in a handy tube, and the lotion is white, very thick, and un-scented, although it does smell like sunscreen. (No yucky self-tanner smell, yay!) I liked this product under a few conditions. First, I suggest NOT wearing it during the day like the label suggests. It's just too greasy and thick, not a very good moisturizer. In fact, I wore my everday moisturizer on the dry areas of my face under this. Second, it won't give you an instant tan. You do have to wear it quite often to see a difference. The difference I noticed was slight, however I do use an acne regimen on my face of BP (which takes out color). I did notice that my skintone seemed more even after waking up, and if it was the second or third night in a row I applied it, it looked more tan compared to the skin on my scalp. It did not turn orange, it was a healthy light brown color. It made the appearance of my dark circles diminished since it evened the skintone. I would definitely recommend this, but don't expect drastic results.

Lipstick -Milani - Scarlet
rated 5 of 5
cherryshake290 2/15/2007 11:43:00 AM

What a great find! This is the lipstick in the gold tube, no clear top. Scarlet is red with shimmer. The red has slight pink undertones, and the shimmer seems to have a golden tint. I'm not sure if it's warm or cool, it seems rather neutral. I like this lipstick because of the shimmer and shine-- it doesn't make the red on your lips look abnormal. This red looks great with black clothing.

Mascara -Rimmel - Extra Super Lash mascara
rated 4 of 5
cherryshake290 2/11/2007 1:44:00 PM

This was an impulse buy for me-- I was going to get another tube of Clinique's Naturally Glossy Mascara but I got this instead, hoping for a very natural mascara without much ommph... and that's exactly what this product did. It's a good mascara for low-drama eyes. It doesn't do anything amazing. It just tinted my blonde lashed black and made them look slightly longer. Therefore, I like it, although I do like Clinique's Naturally Glossy a little better. Do not buy this expecting fabulous, thick & full lashes, it will NOT help.
