Blush -NYX - Powder Blush (ALL)
channierose 7/23/2008 6:45:00 PM
i just came back from the hottest, sweatiest day trekking through the nyc subways that are over 100 degrees, and working in an office with no air conditioning that's like an oven.
but guess what. i looked at my face in the mirror when i got home, and there was my nyx mocha blush. still firmly clinging to my shiny cheeks, just where i had left it when i applied it in the morning. it had withstood time, sweat and heat, without disintegrating into thin air like so many before it.
i've declared love for so-called "hg" blushes before. but i've never encountered a blush with staying power this good.
nyx, thank you for making products that are fairly cheap, and that the ladiez can not have to worry about reapplying 1,324 times a day. it makes our lives a whole lot easier.

Mascara -Unlisted Brand - Wild and Crazy
channierose 7/19/2008 4:35:00 PM
i bought this one day just for kicks, while looking for nyx blush in a beauty supply store. i needed a new mascara - what the hell.
well for $1.49, this baby rocks. i can't say it's amaaazingly spectacular, but for the price it did not disappoint. as long as i have access to this, i won't be experimenting with mascara at the drugstore again, trying to find the perfect one. doesn't clump. doesn't flake. it was also better than some craptacular mac mascara i had the misfortune of buying one time, that i can't remember the name of.
if you can find this stuff, it's a good snag. it won't make you look like you've got false eyelashes on, but it's a cheap, servicable mascara that gets the job done.

Lip Gloss -Bonne Bell - Lip Frosting in Buttercream
channierose 3/9/2008 1:13:00 PM
these are really yummy. buttercream is my favorite, and also i have birthday cake, strawberry, and whipped cream. it's a glossy, understated beige color.
one thing about it though. after i start wearing one of these consistently for a few days, my lips are not smooth anymore. i start to get teeny, tiny little bumps all over them. weird. i took a point off for that.
i SHOULD also take a point off because they wear off so quickly, but i can't! i really prefer a gloss that sticks around - mac lipglass is my hg - but these are just too cute and tasty. i keep them around because it makes me happy just to look at them/ smell them.

Blush -Milani - Smooth Finish Blush - Luminous
channierose 3/8/2008 8:58:00 PM
i just rediscovered this in my stash today. sexy, sexy, sexy. i used to really hate the way it looked on me. i dunno, i guess our preferences change. pretty peachy pink... just enough shimmer... instantly, effortlessly perks up my face. sigh. i love milani blushes.
by the way, this is the old school one i'm talking about. apparently they've rereleased a newer, chalkier version. i can't comment, as i don't own that one.

Tinted Moisturizer -Wet 'n' Wild - Ultimate Sheer Tinted Moisturizer in Nude
channierose 3/8/2008 8:44:00 PM
let me start out by saying how much i love wnw. i've been a faithful user of their blush and lipsticks for years, and have started to get into eyeshadows as well.
let me also say that i'm not normally a foundation wearer. i just needed something for an informal photo shoot my friends and i are doing, and needed it cheap. well this was not it.
this crap was awful. i'm returning it the second i have time. i tested it out in the store, and it looked fine. when i got it home and applied it all over my face in natural daylight, i looked:
1. shiny
2. orange
3. cakey
how can one look shiny AND cakey at the same time? only heaven knows, but it happened. it was obvious and artificial looking, and it also doesn't apply well. like others have said, it was like a mask. the weirdest part - i had some excess on my fingers, and rubbed them together a few times to feel the consistency. the foundation started to PILL in my hands! gross!
i really like wnw and wanted to rate this product well, but i just can't. unfortunately with this, you get what you pay for.

Bronzers -Wet 'n' Wild - Acapulco Glow
channierose 2/19/2008 1:17:00 AM
this obviously isn't a bronzer, people. even though it says so on the compact (and i have no idea why). anyone who even looks at it in the case can see that it has no bronzing abilities whatsoever. please don't buy this thinking you'll look like you just got back from cancun.
moving on... it is, however, a fantastic product if you know the right ways to use it. it's an awesome highlighter. not chalky. not too obviously shimmery. those who said it magnified pores, i have no idea what you're talking about... mac shimpagne did more of that than acapulco glow ever could... another reason i've ditched shimpagne for another fabulous wnw highligher that looks almost almost exactly like it, but without the chunks - all over shimmer. but i digress...
the consistency of this is finely milled and soft. it feels and looks just like a high end product. it's good stuff.
i've been wearing this all over my face lately. i hate foundation, and am always looking for a quick way to even out my skintone. i feel that this luminizes me. it just gives that little extra edge of looking put-together, without having to be caked down with foundation or heavy powder. i even have oily skin... i don't care, i just keep it off my forehead.
i wouldn't say this is a perfect product, but it's sure damn near close. and for the price, it's very very worth it in my opinion.

Highlighters -MAC - Skinfinish-Stereo Rose
channierose 2/18/2008 12:37:00 AM
to me many of the msfs vary in quality, but this is probably one of the best. no glitter. no chunks. just a nice coral sheen that people instantly recognize as the glow of health... like you've had a nice day in the sun, or have been working out.
i got this when it first came out, but don't remember why i ever wore it... i didn't think it was anything special. then one day i bumped into a friend while i had it on. "wow!" he exclaimed, "you look great!" i took another look at myself in the mirror after that and realized how healthy i'd looked. it was stereo rose.
i'm not sure it's worth the prices it's going for now. but people are going to spend what they're going to spend. and in this case, it actually is a great product and not all hype. they probably won't be disappointed.

Highlighters -Milani - Glimmer Stripes in Honey Glimmer
channierose 2/18/2008 12:20:00 AM
i love the glimmer stripes. i am a fan of them in general, but honey is my favorite. as is with all of them, the shimmer is not super-frosty or glittery. it is just the right amount to give you a healthy glow. it doesn't magnify pores like some of the chunkier msfs. it's relatively long-lasting. also, i guess it's pretty cool that you can use each individual stripe as eyeshadow, although i never do.
what really wows me about this product is the color. the color of this looks so good on me (nc20). effortlessly good. it's like a light pinky bronze, and i am not a fan of bronzers or even bronzy tones. for a supposedly warm colored chick, i tend to think warm colors look bad on me a lot. but this really does remind me of honey when i wear it. it's ethereal, and natural, and at the same time gorgeous.

Lip Gloss -MAC - pink meringue
channierose 2/18/2008
i too, hated nymphette like some other reviewers have said. but this pink/ gold gloss was perfect. not too much shimmer... not too much PINK! or GOLD! i can't tell you how much i love the formula of the lipglass, but i'm at that stage where the pigmentation and shininess of many of their colors is a little over the top for me. this gave me my all-day-lasting pouty pink lips without extra drama.
i purchased this when it came out with sweetie cake, and turned out to be a hg product. i've actually run out, and i don't run out of anything.
in short, if you're into dramatic shiny-ness, maybe don't go for this. if you're looking for something a little understated, or just a more standard gloss to accent another lipstick color, then totally grab this if you find it.

Eye Shadow -Milani - Spice 09
channierose 2/25/2007 11:37:00 PM
today, i tried a little experiment. i used mac stilife as a base, nylon all over, spice as a crease color for my left eye, and mac coco beach on my right. i swear to god, they looked like the same exact color. my bf couldn't tell the difference between eyes, either. coco beach was a little more shimmery... but i've got a cheapo copper pigment to put over spice if i feel the hankering for a complete dupe. but why would i want to? honestly and surprisingly, i prefer it without the extra shimmer.
also at the end of the day, it seemed as though spice actually out-performed coco beach in lastablity! that does it. spice is my new lover. i'm s*lling coco beach on lj.

Blush -Wet 'n' Wild - Silk Finish Blush 831D Pearlescent Pink
channierose 2/25/2007 11:27:00 PM
i wore this today and it is GORGEOUS on my nc20 skin. i have a slight flush across my cheeks and nose that is natural... this is very close to that color and in fact, enhances it. i'm loving the gold flecks in it, too. lasts all day over a cream blush. i caught a glimpse at myself in a mirror today and thought "wow! there's something extra-special pretty about me today... like i've just had sex!" pearlescent pink was the culprit. it's definately my "o" blush.

Blush -Milani - Double Impact Blush - Cherries on Top
channierose 2/24/2007 3:40:00 PM
this blush has a comparable effect to nars crazed on me (another hg.) it is has a brightening effect to my skin and makes me look alive. i'm nc20-ish for reference. yes the pigment is very strong, but that's okay since i don't mind the look of a bright cheek. if you do mind, my suggestion would be to use a skunk brush with a very light hand.
these blushes can definately compare with high-end, and i would reccomend them to anyone.

Blush -Milani - Powder Blush - Temptation [DISCONTINUED]
channierose 2/24/2007 3:32:00 PM
woah! i was so surprised at this blush! i've seen it in the drugstore many times and grimaced at the color. but i had an opportunity to pick it up in a swap, and since they were being d/c'd, i just wanted to try it out. i'm so glad i did! it doesn't look muddy, like in the pan. it's gorgous. it brightens my face. i'm nc20-ish for reference.
anyway... great pigment, great staying power, blah blah blah. i actually need to put a cream product under it for strong all-day staying power, but i didn't take points off for that. because noooothing lasts on me all day, not even nars. these blushes are definately comparable to high-end.

Blush -Milani - Powder Blush - Pink Craze [DISCONTINUED]
channierose 2/24/2007 3:28:00 PM
this is everything i wanted mac pink swoon to be. this is the cherub-cheek blush i've been looking for. i actually really liked this, and i'm warm toned. nc20-ish. everyone else seems to think it's just for cool toned girls, but perhaps it's just a preference... i happen to like a lot of cool-toned makeup on myself rather than warm. weird?

Lip Gloss -Milani - Crystal Gloss - Innocent (#01A)
channierose 2/23/2007 11:54:00 PM
this was a gooorgeous color! it looked excellent on my lips. the texture, pigmentation, and wear were all great. the smell was yummy. but then one day... i opened up the tube to put it on... and the most foul, stinky smell came out! it had turned! it smelled like rotted garbage, no lie. had to toss it.
i took off a lippie just because it seemed within a very short time i had it that it turned. like less than a year. that may not seem fair, i mean all lip products turn eventually. but i really liked this and was sad about wasting it!
i actually haven't gotten around to repurchasing it yet though...
