Lipstick -Cover Girl - Natureluxe in Peony
cattitude 2/26/2013 6:25:00 PM
I've never liked Cover Girl products, but I decided to take a chance on their NatureLuxe line. Nope. This product sucks. I was expecting a tinted lip balm, but this is more of a berry lipstick with a bit of a metallic shine. It did not moisturize my lips and the pigment seems very uneven and does not stay in place. The pigment collects in my lip lines and makes them look like wrinkles!

Styling Products -Jonathan - Dirt

I bought this stuff based on its reputation as a miracle product (well, and the fact that it was half price!). It's a good product, but not an amazing one. It's marketed as a texturizing paste, but the texture is stiffer and waxier than a paste. It has a sweet scent. The positives about this product are that it gives control and definition, smooths frizz and gives your hair a "second day" look. A little goes a long way. The negatives about this product are the high retail price, the stiffness (it's hard to work with, and hard to emulsify), and it can leave a waxy coating on your hair. I would only use this on dry hair because I can't imagine the thick, waxy formula working well on damp hair. I have the KMS Hair Play Paste, and I prefer that one. It has a more hygenic pump dispenser, the consistency is easier to work with and it can be used in both damp and dry hair.

Cleansers -Neutrogena - All-in-One Makeup Removing Cleansing Lotion

This product is EXTREMELY drying! I can actually feel it stripping the moisture from my skin. If you have dry skin, avoid this product at all costs.

This moisturizer did nothing for my skin... if anything, it made my skin dryer! After using this moisturizer for a couple weeks, my cheeks were so dry that the skin was flaking off!

Makeup Brushes -Quo - Brushes
cattitude 12/21/2012 10:12:00 PM
I had heard good things about Quo brushes, so I picked up the "Quo Master Brush Set" from their Holiday 2010 collection. I got it after Christmas for half price, so I paid about $30. It included 6 brushes: blush, foundation, crease blender, shadow, liner, and concealer. I was really disappointed in the quality. The eye brushes feel scratchy and the ferrules are coming loose (I don't even wear makeup that often!). They don't even pick up or distribute product very well. The set included a bulky, metallic purple brush case with purple plastic studs sewn onto the front- I personally think that it is hideous. The studs are starting to come loose even though I keep the case in a drawer. I ended up buying a new brush set from Costco (of all places!) It's softer and feels like better quality. p.s. I think that the Quo brush reviews should be split up into 'regular' and 'professional'. They are 2 different lines with 2 different price points. The professional brushes only seem to be sold in the stores with higher-end beauty boutiques.

Styling Products -Schwarzkopf - Got2b Powderful
cattitude 10/12/2012 2:10:00 AM
This is such a fun product for $3.99 (regular price is higher but got2b products often go on sale). I've never used styling powder before so I thought that it would be more like a baby powder, but it's an ultrafine dust that feels cold on your skin and disappears when rubbed. It doesn't leave a noticeable scent. At first I tried following the advice on the bottle (applying product to hands first) but it didn't accomplish much. You have to sprinkle it straight onto your hair and then work it in. I'm not sure that I would use this dust for everyday styling because my hair has tons of natural volume, but I WILL use it as an alternative to backcombing for vintage-inspired looks- it would work great to create volume at the crown for a 1960's look or to create volume at the front for a 1950's-style quiff. If you have long hair I think that this would be good prep for an updo- it would give the hair more grip.

Lipstick -Revlon - Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain - Honey
cattitude 10/11/2012 4:10:00 PM
I wish that I had read the reviews before purchasing. I bought this after testing it on my wrist at the drugstore. The colour looked gorgeous and subtle. I wore it to work the next day, re-applying throughout the day. I was shocked when I came home and looked in the mirror to see my bright pink lips! I think what happens is that the balm part wears off quickly while the stain part builds up.

Hair -Moroccanoil - Moroccan Oil
cattitude 10/5/2012 5:56:00 PM
This stuff made my hair look and feel healthy and shiny. I liked the smell too. It's expensive but a little bit goes a long way. This product is full of silicones, and I know that some people think that silicones are the devil in hair product form. However, my hair loves silicone products.

Treatments -Live Clean - Argan Oil
cattitude 10/5/2012 5:49:00 PM
Complete and utter crap. Do not waste your money. This product feels nothing like an oil or serum- it's a sticky gel that makes your hair feel gross. (No, I did not over-apply it. Yes, I tried it on wet and damp hair. Don't feel personally offended because it did not work on MY hair!)

Styling Products -ENJOY - Dry Wax
cattitude 10/5/2012 5:07:00 PM
I'm disappointed in this product- I spent a lot of money on a jar of wax that I can't use. If you are thinking of purchasing this product, save yourself some cash and pick up a jar of Murray's Beeswax from the drugstore. This product has the texture of a hard, thick wax. I had difficulty emulsifying it in my hands or even with a blow-dryer. It smells like citrus furniture wax. I tried using a tiny bit to define my ends and control my cowlick, but even the tiniest amount made my hair feel waxy. I gave it to my husband to try- I thought it would work better for him because his hair is shorter and he is used to using heavy pomades. Nope, he did NOT like this one because it's impossible to work with.

Moisturizers -Unlisted Brand - Sweet Almond Oil
cattitude 10/5/2012 4:06:00 PM
This makes a great massage oil. It also removes eye makeup better than drugstore-brand eye makeup remover... and unlike the cheap stuff, it doesn't irritate my eyes. p.s. I do NOT recommend Aura Cacia brand due to their poor packaging designs. If you don't squeeze hard enough, none comes out. If you squeeze too hard, it squirts out everywhere.

Styling Products -L'Oreal - Matt & Messy Fibre Paste
cattitude 10/2/2012 11:01:00 PM
Packaging: 150 mL squeeze tube with flip-top cap Claims: Roughed-up, natural look with shine-free finish. Hold level 8/10 (ultra strong). Easy to apply and shampoo out. Non-greasy. Apply to damp or dry hair. This is a product from L'Oreal's new 'Matt & Messy' line. It is a little more expensive than other drugstore styling products; regular price is about $6.50-7 CAD while the older L'Oreal products are often on sale for $4.99. It comes in a white tube with a graphic and modern design. I'm not sure if this is meant to be a men's or unisex product. The fragrance reminds me of unisex cologne. Men would probably enjoy it, but I personally like hair products that smell edible! The texture is creamy without feeling sticky or greasy. L'Oreal sucked me in with their marketing claims. Roughed-up texture? Extra-strong hold? Non-shiny? I'm all over that! Unfortunately, I have thick coarse hair that laughs at drugstore styling products. I used the Matt & Messy Fibre Paste a couple times and it did give me a bit of texture, but I did not find the hold to be 'extra-strong'. I'm guessing that this product would work best for adding subtle texture to thin-to-medium hair. It didn't feel gross and it is definitely not the worst drugstore product I've tried. I wonder if long-term use would cause dry hair because the top two ingredients are water and alcohol. I will try and update this review once I have experimented more with this product.

Lotions/ Creams -Bath and Body Works - Dreamy Vanilla Woods
cattitude 10/2/2012 10:16:00 PM
This is a decent vanilla body spray. I purchased one of the mini bottles that cost 3 for $10 CAD before committing to the big bottle (hey, I like variety!). I had no trouble deciding between this and the Warm Vanilla Sugar because WVS smelled a bit gross to me. The Dreamy Vanilla Woods is definitely superior- it's a more mature and sexy vanilla scent. The staying power seems good for a body spray. I wouldn't give it 5 stars though- it's not as good as the Body Fantasies vanilla body spray that I can no longer find in Canada.

Fragrances -Parfums de Coeur - Vanilla Fantasy
cattitude 10/1/2012 9:26:00 PM
First of all, I hope that I'm reviewing the right product. Mine had super-cheesy packaging with green plastic fairies dancing around the cap. This is the BEST vanilla body spray I have ever smelled. Warning: You may get an overwhelming number of compliments on how delicious you smell. The only Canadian store I know of that sold this was Wal-Mart. I was heartbroken when they stopped carrying it. I tried every drugstore in town with no luck. I've tried other brands of vanilla body spray like Calgon (eww) and Bodycology. Most of the other brands aim to smell like cupcake frosting vanilla, not sexy vanilla. I may have to import a truckload of this stuff from the U.S.

Lipstick -Maybelline - Color Sensational ~ Red Revival
cattitude 10/1/2012 8:56:00 PM
I don't wear lipstick very often, so buying expensive brands would just be silly. This one goes on sale for really cheap. This is the only red lipstick I own because it's extremely difficult to find a red that works with my pale skin. Red Revival is more of an intense fuchsia than a true red. I line my lips with Maybelline lip liner pencil #50 Red and blot with a tissue after each application of lipstick. I wore this to a wedding with 1940s-style hair and got tons of compliments. However, I had to touch up the colour several times through the night. In summary, this isn't the best lipstick formula ever but it's a great budget option for women with pale/cool skin tones.
