Treatments -L'Oreal - Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm
rated 5 of 5
carlasher 2/5/2013 12:42:00 AM

I have 4a/3c mid back length hair with medium to fine strands. I purchased this conditioner on impulse, tempted by the sale price my local store was offering and I must say I don't regret this purchase. Because of the curl pattern and length of my hair I always have a difficult time detangling it. This conditioner literally melted the tangles right out of my hair. I only had to leave it on for 10 minutes but it preformed like I had left it on my hair for hours. I can't say it "repaired" my hair because it really isn't damaged, but it kept my hair from breaking off as much as it tends to.

Mascara -Bare Escentuals - brushless mascara
rated 2 of 5

A brushless mascara is not a good idea. I purchased this product with high hopes, but this just confirms that mascara needs a brush for it to work. The formula clumps (cant comb/brush it out) and it runs. I now use this mascara combined with with a regular mascara with a brush, but it defeats the purpose.

Hair Color -Garnier - Nutrisse Permanent Creme Hair Color

Color: Blue Black 210 For the record, I have 3C hair (super curly) that's naturally dark brown with natural red sun highlights that I'm not too crazy about. In the past I've only used either a temporary color or a demi-perm color but decided to try a permanent color to see how it will come out and how long it will last. Today is 10/22/09 and I colored my hair with the Blue Black 210 color exactly two months ago and the black is pretty permanent with very little fading. I do use conditioners that's supposed to protect hair color by Redken, Pureology and Giovanni. Since my hair is super curly, I rinse it daily with a conditioner and shampoo about once weekly with a non-sulfate shampoo. Pros: This hair color is very easy to use, the gel formula does not drip and mixing the color is pretty easy with the box kit applicators. The black portion of the color holds up well despite the daily rinsing. Cons: I recommended buying your own "aftermarket" gloves since the box kit gloves are pretty cheap and not very durable. In terms of the color, the "blue" didn't stay blue very long. After about a week the "blue" was pretty much washed out or faded. I wish it would have stay longer since that's the best part in my opinion. Since it is a perm color, I have to be conscious of doing a deep conditioning treatment within a day or two of applying the hair color. My hair felt pretty fried for the first several days. I recommend using a deep conditioner that also protects the hair color. All in all, I like the ease of use, the non-drip formula and the staying power of the black. I do recommend this brand, especially if you're new to permanent hair color like I am.

Shampoo -Pureology - Purify Shampoo
rated 1 of 5

This shampoo left my hair a tangled, dull, dry mess. Even conditioner didnt really help it much after using this shampoo. It also felt like there was some build-up left on my hair from the shampoo itself. This was no better than a $1.99 bottle of Suave. Hair type: dyed blue/black, 3C

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast

I found this mascara at Costco, three for $14 and thought it was cheap enough to give it a try. I use the "very black" color and this is one of the best mascaras I have ever tried for the price. The rubber (?) brush will take some time to get used to but it makes the application very clean and even. No clumps, or mess. It lengthens, combs and thickens my lashes perfectly. I have to do very little clean up after application and I dont have to do second or third coats. This is definitely a HG mascara.

Hair -Carol's Daughter - Hair Butter
rated 4 of 5
carlasher 5/7/2009 10:52:00 PM

Hair type: 3C/natural, bra strap length, dyed blue/black (demi permanent) Though this hair butter is a little heavy, I tend to use it to protect it from the heat or cold and it does a great job. You definitely have to use it with a light hand because a little goes a long way. With my dark hair, it may appear white but it blends in eventually.

Mascara -MAC - Zoom lash
rated 2 of 5
carlasher 4/22/2009 8:12:00 PM

Though this product does it job in giving you thick, long lashes, this mascara is much to difficult to apply. The formula is much too wet to use. I'm constantly having to go over my upper lids with a wet q-tip to wipe off any mascara lands in that area. Its a good thing I dont wear any other eye makeup or it would really be a pain. I would be aware if you do. Despite it being very wet, strangely it clumps too. I usually end up with spider eyes and have to go over it with a dry mascara tester brush. This is not a repurchase.

Styling Products -Redken - Real Control Crema Care

This is one of the best leave-in conditioners I have ever used. This keeps my hair manageable and extremely soft. If you're looking for shine, this will not give it to you, but it will keep your hair soft and free of breakage. 3C natural - bra strap length - dyed blue/black demi

Mascara -Too Faced - Lash Injection
rated 3 of 5
carlasher 4/18/2009 3:21:00 AM

Though I did like this product, I'm not sure if I would ever buy it again. I love how long and thick my lashed looked but it had a very chemical scent and its a little thick at time. It does clump so you have to reapply more than once.

Styling Products -Redken - Smooth Down Detangling Cream [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
carlasher 10/5/2007 6:09:00 PM

Though this isn’t my HG products and I don’t think I will repurchase, this product does a great job detangling my thick, curly hair. The problem is, it doesn’t really moisturize or add any shine once its dried so I still have to use a separate moisturizer for my hair.

Moisturizers -Christian Dior - iOd Hydra-Sorbet Aquatique

Ingredients: Aqua (water) Maris Aqua (Sea Water) Dimethicone, Cyclopentsailoxane, Dipropyene Glycol, Alcohol Denat, Glycerin, Dimethicone Copolyol Crosspolymer, Aluminum Starch Octenyl-Succinate, Parfum (frangrance), Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Citrate, Porphyridium Cruentum Extract Phenyoxyethanol, Methylparaben, BHT, Ethylparben, Butylparben, Algae Extract, Proplyparben, Isoutylparben As you can see, this product is nothing but water, silicons, parabens and perfume. Nothing thats actually nourishing to the skin. Thankfully, I only had a sample pack. When I used a bit, I needed to double check the package to make sure I wasn't putting perfumed lotion on my skin. This product is VERY heavily perfumed and stung my skin a bit. This product is a total rip off if I ever saw one.

Primer/ Corrector -Laura Geller - Spackle Cream
rated 4 of 5
carlasher 9/19/2007 8:43:00 PM

This is definitely a HG product. Unlike other (heavy) silicon based primers, this one goes on smoothly and actually blends well with both liquid and powdered foundations. This is the first one I've used that didnt break me out either. Its a great product and the price is right. I will purchase when I'm done with the free 1oz sample from Sephora.

Moisturizers -Arcona - Magic White Ice
rated 5 of 5
carlasher 5/31/2007 4:06:00 PM

This product is my HG of skincare products at this time. My skin is combo that can get really dry. This products contains no oils or silicones so it doesn’t leave residue behind and this is one of the few products that don’t break me out. I either use it alone or with the Dessert Mist. Its moderately priced and the packaging travels well.

Shampoo -Aveda - Sap Moss Shampoo [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
carlasher 9/12/2006 2:46:00 PM

This is my new HG shampoo. I have used other Avedas shampoos in the past only to have dried, stripped hair. Needless to say, I was fearful to try this one. The sales person/stylist was so sure this would be great for my thick, curly, long, natural "ethnic" hair, I purchased it and held on to my receipt just in case I needed to take it back. This shampoo never left my hair feeling dry or stripped. The shampoo lathers well (very creamy); the smell, it depends on my mood, but I like it for the most part.

Lotions/ Creams -Aveda - Hand Relief
rated 5 of 5
carlasher 9/12/2006 2:36:00 PM

This is the one Aveda product that I don’t mind buying over and over again. This thick, creamy, non-greasy hand cream is mildly scented (unlike some of Aveda's other products) really keeps my hands and cuticles soft and moisturized. I keep a tube on my desk at work. Between the bathroom soap, and the air conditioned building, this is a real treat for my hands.
