Primer/ Corrector -Shu Uemura - UV Under Base DF
canadiankiwi 3/5/2011 11:06:00 PM
I love this product! I usually hate foundation but this mousse has converted me to a foundation person (I've been using pressed powder for many, many years). I have clear skin but tends to be oily. I have tried Giorgio Armani & Laura Mercier foundations (with their primers) and both didn't really look or feel that great. I decided to give foundations one more try with Shu Umera and I'm so glad I did! The can is easy to use, I just press lightly & a little comes out. No problem with controlling the amount. I don't have it long enough so can't say if this will turn to liquid by the end but I will update if it does. There isn't a lot in the can so I can see myself going through this pretty quickly but it's so worth it! This is so light on my skin and feels like I'm not wearing any foundation at all! This under my foundation makes my skin look flawless! And it lasts 24 hours without giving me that oily, greasy look. Love it. Def. my HG product. I'm recommending this to everyone I know.

Treatments (Eye) -Lancome - Primordiale Intense Eye
canadiankiwi 6/4/2008 5:06:00 PM
I've always trusted Lancome because the brand is renowned for their skin care - no longer! This is a light, moisturizing cream which went on well and absorbed quickly but that's all. It couldn't touch the wrikles (very fine and just starting). I was hoping using this would help to stop wrinkles from deepening (I know better than to expect it to reverse the wrikles - despite what the commercials claim!) This cream didn't do that, or do much of anything at all, really. If you want a general light moisturizer then this is fine but at this price, definitely not worth it. I even got the High Resolution Eye Collaser at the same time (because the sales person recommended it) and used it as instructed but that did nothing either. Save your money. Avoid these two products.

Moisturizers -Aveda - Hydrating Lotion
canadiankiwi 6/4/2008 4:26:00 PM
The full name is actually Botanical Kinetics Hydrating Lotion. I love this product & would recommend this to everyone I know. Some of my friends are now using this because of my recommendations! First, it is NOT that expensive because you need so little and it lasts so long. The larger the size, the cheaper it actually is. The scent and texture is different from every other moisturizing lotion I've tried (although I have found you either love the scent or hate it - no middle ground). Very little is needed for application and it feels fantastic on - my skin is soft & supple through out the day. I've used this close to 5 yrs now. I have had to use other moisturizers but my skin feels so much worse as soon as I stop using this and I always go back to Aveda. It's fantastic!

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Mascara
canadiankiwi 6/4/2008 4:09:00 PM
Not worth the money. Previous Lancome mascaras I've tried were far superior to Diorshow. I decided to try on a whim and the result was not worth the price of product. The large wand wasn't a problem for me - it actually worked without clumping and had a good volumizing effect. The mascara went on fine but would flake as time went on. I definitely had flaking & smudging with this one - and that's with only 1 coat. I didn't use it frequently after about 1 month and the whole thing dried up within 4 months, even if it just sat in the tube. Not worth it & won't purchase again.

Blush -NARS - Deep Throat
canadiankiwi 12/28/2007 11:16:00 AM
I started off using NARS Orgasm because of all the hype on MUA and I was very satisfied with it; however, I find it a little too peachy/dark for my skin right now (winter). Orgasm is a great colour for my summer, somewhat tanned skin - but I find it's too much for my much lighter winter skin. I wanted something that was more pink than peach. In the pan, Deep Throat looks quite similar to Orgasm and I wasn't sure if it was light & pink enough but I got it anyways. I'm glad I did! Deep Throat is a great colour on light skin - it makes me glow! There is a shimmer (which I like) and the pink is just right - it gives me a nice, light flushed look. The staying power is great, but I already knew that with NARS blushes. It's steep at $32 CND but it's worth it to me. Definitely recommend this.

Eye Primer -Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Original (UDPP)
canadiankiwi 8/10/2007 11:36:00 AM
I'll keep this short & sweet. It's amazing! I have oily eyelids and no eyeshadows ever lasted more than a few hours, but I had this under my eyeshadow & walked around in 100F weather and it stayed like magic! Amazing! I only use powder e/s, so I can't say how well it will stay for other textures. I used just a few little dots on my eyelids and blended with my fingers all over, applied e/s & liner as usual and that's all there was to it. I love it so much! And I have to thank the girls on MU boards for recommending this to me. I will absolutely buy this again.

Blush -NARS - Orgasm Blush
canadiankiwi 7/7/2007 1:52:00 PM
I had no clue what this was until I got on MUA (I'm not really that into blush). After I keep hearing about how great this was, I had to try it - I've been using Lancome blush and I've never tried another brand. I was a little scared of the glittery gold colour when I saw it but decided to buy it anyways ($32 CND). I have light skin in the winter and a slight tan in the summer months. I usually apply just a little and it gives me a slight shimmer which is very pretty. Applying too heavily and this looks very orange! If I want a more dramatic look, I use my Lancome blush (just a light pink - I forget the name now) underneath and apply a thin layer of Orgasm over it and it looks great. At my rate, it will take me years to finish this one pack, so I don't think I will need to buy it again. I'm very impressed by how long it stays on since my skin is slightly oily. I want to try other colours from Nars so I probably won't get this one again for a long time. It does last a long time for me and the price is comparable to Lancome anyways.

Masks -Aveda - Intensive Hydrating Masque
canadiankiwi 7/7/2007 1:13:00 PM
I have clear, combination skin. I was just hoping this would make my skin softer and more moisturized. I currently use Aveda Kinetics moisturizer & exfoliant and I love them, so I thought I would give the mask a chance. It was around $30 CND for a tube. I've used about 1/3 of the tube now - leaving it on around 15 to 20 mins then put hot towel over it then wash it off - about once or twice a week. I've read other reviews that instructed to leave it on overnight, but I don't know how they can do that - it's a gel that is cooling and smooth, which dries and gets sticky after it dries... I tried leaving it on for about 1 hr and it was so dry that it was very uncomfortable for my face. I noticed my skin was soft & supple for a few hours after using it but the effect isn't permanent. It didn't add to or subract anything from my skin... I think I can get the same effect from regular drug store aloe vera gel for a lot less money. I won't be buying again.

Scrubs -Dermalogica - Daily Microfoliant
canadiankiwi 7/7/2007 10:49:00 AM
I have combination skin, pretty clear 99% of the time (ie. the occasional pimple here or there). I do have a problem with uneven skin tone though - Asian skin but I blush/flush easily and tend to be pink/red in the T-zone area, especially in the winter. The package does make a claim to smooth, brighten and even out skin tone. I bought it at a spa ($80 CND) and was instructed to use it daily in the shower b/c the steam helps to open the pores or something like that. I used it daily for about 3 months and then every other day for a few more months. I used as instructed: quarter-sized powder in my palm, mixed with a little water until foamed and apply evenly to face & neck - leave on for about 2-3 minutes then rinsed off. Results: did not do anything noticeable for my skin tone. It felt really nice on and my skin felt smooth afterwards, however, I did notice my skin got slightly more flaky - so I decreased use to every other day and it was fine. I won't be buying it again - but at the rate I'm going, this is going to last a long time before I run out...

Mascara -Maybelline - Sky High Curves Extreme Length and Curl [DISCONTINUED]
canadiankiwi 5/22/2007 1:27:00 AM
I have long-ish, straight Asian lashes and this actually works to curl them. I'm amazed. I've used only department store mascaras before, but this works better than the ones I've tried (Lancome, Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden, etc). It holds the curl after I use an eyelash curler, but even withough pre-curling, this does a wonderful job on its own. I have the WP one, and it really stays on the whole day without smudging. I will be sticking to this from now on - works great and so much cheaper than the ones I had before.

Lipstick -Clinique - Colour Surge Butter Shine Lipstick
canadiankiwi 1/20/2007 12:39:00 AM
I love, love, LOVE this lipstick. Like the previous reviewer said, it is the best of both worlds. I've been searching for so long for a perfect lipstick and I've finally found it. I got Pink Goddess and it is fantastic! I've tried A LOT of different lipsticks/lipglosses/lipstains (from $ to $$$) but this is like nothing I've used before - best of all, no weird lipstick smell! It goes on smooth and is soothing - the look of a lipstick but the feel and shine of a good gloss. It doesn't last too long(esp. after eating) but it feels so nice that I don't mind reapplying. I got it for $20 Canadian (including tax) and I am so satisfied with it. I am definitely getting more colours from this line. Highly recommend it!

Powder -Estee Lauder - Double Wear Stay-in-Place Powder Makeup
canadiankiwi 1/17/2007 6:43:00 PM
I LOVE this powder. It had great coverage & was very long-lasting. I have oily Tzone but my cheeks tend to get dry & flaky. Other powders & liquid foundation either had no lasting power or made my flaky cheeks every more pronounced. I've tried Lancome & Clinique products before but EL DW was the best, by far! I used it for a few weeks but then had an allergic reaction to this - had a red rash on my throat area which got worse and worse. In fact, I loved it so much, I continued to wear and bought antihistamine medication to deal with the rash - sadly, the medication wasn't enough to get rid of the rash. I have never been allergic to anything in my life and I'm so mad that this is the ONE thing I am allergic to! I still said that i would buy again because I think my allergic reaction is a minor exception and shouldn't count against this product. It's a great product and I would highly recommend this to everyone with oily/combo skin.
