BB Cream -InnisFree - Eco Natural Green Tea BB Cream
rated 5 of 5
calico 2/11/2013 11:34:00 AM

After having used Missha Signature BB Cream for a while, I wanted a BB Cream with a less runny consistency and a tone that is less pink. I chanced upon this BB Cream by Innisfree and when testing it, really liked the thicker texture of the product. The shade is in #1 light beige, which fits my light skin tone very well. The thicker consistency hides imperfections and spreads easily. I have combination-dry skin and this feels comfortable on my skin. As Innisfree is an organic product that is paraben-free, mineral oil-free, talc-free, silicon-free, which means it's suppose to be better for my skin. and so far so good, after using it for more than 3 months....no breakouts at all. Several hours later, the color still looks fresh. SPF 29, PA++ A product I will definitely buy again.

Lip Gloss -mark - Glossblossom Ripening Lip Tint
rated 5 of 5
calico 7/7/2006 2:24:00 PM

I love this! Got this from a lovely MUAer and it turned out to be a gem because I didn't expect much from it, yet this is what I reach for the most these days. It is a clear gloss that turns a lovely pinkish/rose shade on my lips after a while. I looked as though I just sucked on a strawberry or had spicy curry (a good thing!) It keeps my lips moisturized, giving it just enough color to complement the rest of my light makeup and stays on for several hours if I wasn't eating or drinking anything. I keep it in my bag and carry it around with me at work for quick touchups. The gloss has a nice sweet taste to it and the cheap price can't be beat.

Scrubs -The Body Shop - Almond Body Scrub
rated 3 of 5
calico 7/7/2006 2:05:00 PM

I really liked the Papaya Body Scrub but wanted to try new scents. Always liked anything almond-based so got the new Body Shop Almond scrub. It smelt lovely in the tub and I couldn't wait to try it. The consistency is unlike the Papaya scrub which was creamy in texture. The Almond scrub was more oil or gel-based. This made it harder to apply and it clumped up easily when I smoothed it over my body. I had to be careful that flakes of the scrub didn't fall all over the bathroom floor. My skin felt smooth and smelt nice after rinsing off but there was a film left on my skin that took abit more effort to rinse off but this not a big problem. However I have to admit I prefer cream-based scrubs as they go on smoothly and easily, and washes off nicely as well. But I wouldn't write this off just yet. Not until I find a better almond-scented body scrub.

Scrubs -The Body Shop - Papaya Body Scrub

I got this despite reading the not too stellar reviews for the Papaya scrub, because at the shop this was the only one at that time with a scent that appealed to me. Have been using it for almost a month now, and have finally scrapped to the bottom of the tub. I really do like it I must say. Lovely scent, nice texture and consistency to the granules and after each use, my skin feels super-soft. There is also no nasty slimy residue, it all washes off easily. The only thing I would change about this product is the packaging. Wish it comes in a squeeze tube instead of a tub. Sometimes the water from my hand drips into it as I scoops the scrub up and a squeeze tube would be more convenient. Will buy again, but I will also try out the other type of scrubs from Body Shop.

Moisturizers -Jurlique - Calendula Cream
rated 5 of 5
calico 4/2/2006 3:17:00 PM

This is a fantastic moisturiser which had worked wonders for my face. Two months ago, I had a really bad breakout along my jawline, an area in which I hardly ever break out. Moisturisers I had used up to that point had been too light, too watery, or too heavy. Was at the airport when I picked up a tube of this in the smaller size. After two months of usage, I can say that this product had not only soothe my skin, it has also soften it, made it smoother and my skin is alot clearer and alot calmer. I am using this with my Tretinoin cream (Retin-A) and maybe it's due to the combination of both, but I have not seen a new zit for many weeks now. It really is amazing, especially when not so long ago, I was seeing a new zit every other day. The consistency seems thick at first, but feels like nothing going on, and this from someone with oily blemish-prone skin. There is a very light fragrance to it that is quite pleasant, and it works well even in hot humid weather. I will definitely buy again, and in the larger size. A keeper.

Cleansers -Fancl - FANCL Washing Liquid
rated 1 of 5
calico 10/21/2005 7:31:00 AM

Aaarrrggghhh!!! This product broke me out BIG TIME! My holy grail has always been Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel. No matter how many times I took a break and tried out other cleansers with less than desirable results, a return to this HG always fixed my face. So I don't know what I was thinking when I was prepped to go on a three-week backpack trip to Europe and decided to buy this and not bring my regular HG along. I think it was the travel-size convenience of this washing liquid vs. the professional 32oz pump bottle of my regular HG that made me spaced out and made this stupid decision. For being so itchy-fied, I paid the price. Everyday on my trip, a new angry bump will appear on my face, even at the strangest places where I had never broke out before - my eyelid for GAWD's SAKE! Worst thing is I couldn't find Dermalogica anywhere in Europe, and had to settle on a generic brand like Clarins to tide me over this horrible period. A BIG LESSION LEARNT - stick to my HG through thick and thin. This bottle of crap goes into the bin.....it's going to take a while for my face to be normal again. Sigh.............. :(

Foundations -Vichy - Vichy Norma Teint Fond De Teint Anti-Imperfections [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
calico 8/10/2005 1:40:00 PM

This foundation is the liquid to powder type, and claims to not only hide but also heal "imperfections". It goes on smooth and matte, drying to a powdery touch quite fast. This means that you will have to be really skilled at putting on your makeup real quickly. My skin looks smooth and flawless. Only thing is that my face do shine after about 6 hrs or so. There are 3 shades available, Alabaster, Porcelain and Ivory. I am extremely fair and I am using Ivory which is the "darkest" shade. I could be wrong, but this foundation seems to be available only for the Asian market. It is reasonably priced at S$39.90 and easy to find, at most pharmacies. I may buy this again but I am still undecided as I have been using mineral foundation for a while.

Masks -Dr. Hauschka - Rejuvenating Mask
rated 5 of 5
calico 5/25/2005 1:40:00 PM

I can't praise this mask ENOUGH! I had been really stressed at work for the last two months, working long hours and several overniters. My skin was suffering, I had bags under my eyes, and I look tired and crappy. I came here, read the reviews and then went out and got the mask. Used it for a week and my skin has never been better! The difference was so apparent after one night of usage, and that was what sold me on this. My skin looks clean, smooth, the pores are invisible, and any zits I had shrank. This rejuvenating mask isn't some gimmick. I have been using this regularly for more than two weeks, and my skin just got better and better. I see the glow that others had talked about, and I had a compliment from a colleague today. I use this in the day under Normalizing Day Oil, and then at night, after cleansing and toning with the Cleansing Cream and the Clarifying Toner. I highly recommend this mask. It actually works. I will buy and buy this again.

Blush -Laura Mercier - Cheek Colour in Crushed Hazelnut [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
calico 4/27/2005 11:44:00 AM

This was a surprise buy. I always figured myself for a pink/rose sort of gal so is always sticking to the tried-and-true shades. Crushed Hazelnut looks beige and dull in the case, but after applying it, I can't believe how fresh my complexion looks. I am a PPP with sensitive skin that turns red at the slightest "provocation", and this blush perks me up and does not make me break out. It was a whole new different look which I really like. Instead of looking cute and girly, it actually makes me look sophisticated. :)

Lip Treatments -Acca Kappa - Lip Balm SPF 7
rated 2 of 5
calico 4/9/2005 3:16:00 AM

This lip balm, according to the Acca Kappa website is supposed "to protect lips from the harmful effects of the sun, wind and air pollution, our lip balm is a perfect combination of active ingredients and natural extracts that hydrate and restore suppleness to lips." I find that upon application which is quite smooth, the balm leaves a white film on my lips, and it doesn't "sink" in quickly or easily. That makes layering a lipstick or gloss on top more difficult. I also do not find it as emollient as the Dr Hauschka Lip Care stick. I love the fragrance though, a very light coconut-y scent, and the packaging. But I don't think I will buy this again after I am done with it.

Lip Treatments -Dr. Hauschka - Lip Balm - stick
rated 4 of 5
calico 2/26/2005 12:19:00 PM

This lipbalm does grow on me. Purchased it from Sephora and at first, the sudden rose smell puts me off. But as I wind down to my last 1/3 of the stick, the rose fragrance has actually muted down to something subtle and quite pleasant. The balm itself works very well. Quite emollient, and keeps my lips from chapping and makes applying lip makeup a smooth job. I am still searching for a HG lipbalm, but may purchase this again in the future.

Lip Gloss -Fresh - Lip Shine- Sari
rated 4 of 5
calico 2/8/2005 5:42:00 AM

I really like Fresh lipshine glosses. The colors are all lovely and very natural. Sari Red is a very neutral red-coral and looks natural on my lips. There is no unpleasant smell, and while the consistency is a tad watery, I like it alot more than, say, MAC's thicker and stickier texture. The gloss looks shiny and fabulous on my lips. I took one lippie off for the packaging. The gloss tends to spill out when you put the wand back into the tube after application, making it a alittle messy. But, for the colors and texture, this is a gloss I will buy again.

Lipstick -Lola Cosmetics - creme lipstick
rated 4 of 5
calico 12/18/2004 2:12:00 PM

Got myself the Lola Help lipstick with the funky red metal case that comes with a mirror. Love the shade - a neutral pink-rose color that complements all skin tones. I am very fair, PPP almost, and this is a fabulous lipstick that goes well with whatever look I am trying to achieve. The creamy texture is smooth and gives a slight luster so that my lips don't look flat like when it does with really matte lipsticks. There is no horrible smell, and I really dig the special case with the built-in mirror. Very convenient for a quick touch-up. Love this and will repurchase if I could. I am usually a lipgloss kinda gal, but this great lipstick is actually getting me to consider using lipstcks more often.

Powder -Jane Iredale - Amazing Base Loose Finishing Powder
rated 5 of 5
calico 12/12/2004 1:22:00 PM

I was using Bare Escentuals foundation in #1 Fair and liked it ok were it not for the fact that it tended to look a tad shiny on me. It looks great on a friend who has dry/normal skin, but for my oily skin, it's just something I could do without. The shine isn't one of those ugly type though, it's more like a dewy luminous kind of shine. However, I wanted something more matte, and I think I have found it in JI's Amazing Base. I tried out two shades, Bisque (neutral) and Cool Sand (cool), and both works well for me. It is finely milled, and makes my skin looks matte. There is no unnecessary shine, and I don't break out. It feels extremely light on my face, yet it is providing very good coverage and minimizes redness well. My skin is sensitive and oily. On days when I mistakenly think I don't need to moisturize, and don't do so, my face will start to itch and dry out with little bumps when I use mineral foundation. Weird, I know. So, moisturizing well is key for me before I use the Amazing Base. So far so good. I am using the sample, and is actually seriously considering buying the retail size when the samples run out. UPDATE 27/Feb: I am liking this so much that I have just purchased a full-sized pot of Cool Sand. I actually thinks this mineral makeup makes my skin better. I hardly break out anymore, and I am happy knowing that this powder is providing me with coverage, sun protection yet my face still feels "light" and not weigh down with too much makeup.

Masks -DDF - Sulfur Therapeutic Mask [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
calico 11/13/2004 12:49:00 PM

Oh, this is such a GREAT masque! I read all the reviews, but hesitate from buying because of the price. In the end, I just gave in to temptation and purchased a tub from Sephora at $30. It was the best thing I could have done for my skin. This masque works and you see that it actually does. I use this twice a week as a full-fledged masque, and spot-treat every night. The results are pretty amazing. My skin is clearer, not as oily, feels smoother and blemishes are slow in appearing now. When I spot-treat, blemishes that would have become big problems diminishes within days. I have been using it for close to a month, and the results never stop showing themselves. No bad side effects and that's a good thing. I actually dig the smell too; it is minty and antiseptic in a good way. I actually prefer this over the aspirin masque (even though my jar of 1000 aspirins cost only $9.95). A definite HG and re-purchase.
