Foundations -Vichy - Dermablend Corrective Foundation
caitmeg10 2/14/2012 9:20:00 PM
What more needs be said? This is a great foundation, very versatile in uses: mixed with moisturizer for a sheer look, used straight for max coverage, buildable to cover all blemishes.....BUT the color choices? OY! Damn Vichy! Why you no make in more colors? FOR REAL! 4 colors? Lord! Everyone will have to buy 2 or more to mix to match their shade. BAH HUMBUG.

Loose Powders -Silk Naturals - Perfecting powder (untinted)
caitmeg10 4/3/2011 7:38:00 AM
The reviews are all true. This seemingly simple white powder makes a big difference in the finish of my foundation. Softer, more even toned, without adding heaviness. It can be used in a variety of ways. Sometimes I add it over my blush to create a more natural effect, sometimes I mix it with a bit of the mineral foundation for a slightly tinted, less transparent look. Overall it's a terrific product and my only gripe is that I wish it would be sold in a larger size. This is a general gripe I have with all SN powered products. They seem to sell products in the same volume and in disproportionate sizes to their individual uses. Example: Base shades of mineral makeup is sold in the same size as the concentrated color powders used to mix them with. The mix ratio is generally 10 to 2, base to color. The Perfecting Powder is used in a larger concentration than any of the foundation so why sell it in the same volume, 1 tablespoon at a time? I'm starting to feel like a drug dealer with all the little plastic bags with powder. :D PS: Silk Naturals! Your website needs an overhaul! I love you Karen, I love your products but I really don't care for your site. Not user friendly and confusing.

Cleansers -Silk Naturals - Apricot Cleansing Oil

I had to try this after reading glowing reviews. While I liked how the cleanser performed, good but nothing spectacular, sadly it broke me out. I had to give it up. Oh well.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Paint Pot in Painterly

I wanted to love this but it's not for me. The color is good, consistency a bit too dry. You certainly get a lot of product for your money but I had a terrible reaction to it. I simply can't use it.

Toners -Silk Naturals - 8% AHA toner
caitmeg10 12/12/2010 9:48:00 AM
Love this SN toner. It's perfect. Not too strong, does the job well. Keeps my very prone to clogged pores/random breakout skin clear and in good shape. The price is right too. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

Powder -Silk Naturals - Mineral Foundation
caitmeg10 10/16/2010 9:11:00 AM
I really, really like SN foundation. In the past I’ve tried BE and Jane Iredale (hated), and EDM which was just ok. My skin color changes with the seasons and although I liked, not loved EDM, I found it daunting to keep up with colors. While I’m not fond of mixing my own SN, in the end I found it easier than I thought and more practical as I can always add more base, or base color, right into an already mixed batch to adjust to my changing skin tones. Also, I’ve found that SN is somehow more forgiving if the shade is not quite perfect. I use “warm gold” mixed into medium base and add 1 scoop of “glow” to every 10 scoops of base. In the summer months, I add a touch of “ebony”. The medium base gives a great deal of coverage. I use a small brush to apply it to imperfections after applying the foundation overall. It really covers well and has a nice finish. I have not used the other bases (original, heavy) so I can’t comment on those but I find the medium pretty build-able. SN does not break me out and has damn good staying power too. The price is right, the service is great. I’m taking off one lippie as the website is terrible IMO, lacks information, has a bad layout and for not selling the bases in sizes proportionate to tinted bases in at least a 70/30 size ratio so that people are not left with tints and no white base to mix it with. Sell the white base in a larger size please! My last order contained 3 white base and one tinted. SN has some other great products to check out as well. Their finishing powder and Blurs are awesome!

Moisturizers -NIA 24 - Skin Strengthening Complex
caitmeg10 1/3/2010 7:54:00 AM
I’ve waited 3 weeks before my review of this product. All I can say is WOW! This stuff has greatly improved my skin. My skin: aged, sun damaged, acne prone, clogged, large pores, broken caps. Sounds bad, right? Skin care I’ve used in the past that I’ve liked: Retin A, Renova, Diacneal, Murad, aspirin mask, Idebenone, Queen Helene, BP. Things that haven’t worked or made a big difference: Vit ‘C”, Copper peptides and all of the standards like Cetaphil, yada, yada. While I do feel that Renova/Retin A is wonderful for anti-aging and acne, I can’t stand the constant battle with irritation and flakies. Anything I’ve used to help restore my skin from the assult of strong topicals has only acerbated my acne. Well hello Nia 24! I received several samples from my derm and quickly proceed to make full sized purchases of both the strengthening cream and the fabulous eye cream. The cleansers were so, so and not worth the money IMO. Both times I used the cleansers, I had small pimples pop out so bye-bye! I use the cream both morning and night. My skin is visibly plumped, much more even in tone and texture. My broken caps (I’ve had them zapped several times before and they always come back) have faded substantially. Yes, they are still there but far less noticeable. The biggest surprise is that my clogged pores have disappeared, I no longer find the perpetual, random pimples on my face, my pores have REALLY shrunk and pore junk and oil production has normalized. My skin feels tight but not dry. I know this product is not marketed as an acne treatment but I feel confidant in recommending it to acne sufferers, those who can not wear moisturizers without breaking out and for those who simply can not tolerate strong AHA/BHA’s. I did not experience the “flush” that some have and that Nia 24 claims may happen. I only experienced a very mild drying up and shedding of healing acne in the 1st week of use. I will continue to update but at this juncture, I highly recommend this cream. It is very $$$ and you can get it for less on ebay. **update** My face looks and feels fabulous. I can't stop looking at it and touching it. I incorporated emu oil (rub together in hands and pat onto face) into my routine. My skin just glows. NO BREAKOUTS. My pores are unclogged and remain that way. I would not say this is a moisturizer but a treatment. I gave samples to 2 of my nieces that have hormonal acne and have used everything available and prescribed by their derm with no luck. One left to study abroad last week and I skyped her to see and ask how the Nia 24 was working for her. "Aunt Caitmeg! My skin looks really good but I think it may have to do with the water here or something else". hahaha! I'm sending her more. As for the other niece, I haven't caught up with her yet. I'll update again.

Treatments (Eye) -NIA 24 - Eye Repair Complex
caitmeg10 12/20/2009 8:18:00 AM
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! Holy cow. I've had so many problems with my eye area. Allergic reactions, eczema, blepharitis.....I finally got it under control after several years of hell. My eyes were left with stretched out skin both upper and lower resembling deflated balloons. :( I got several samples of Nia 24 products (LOVE the strengthening cream too!) and the eye cream is my favorite. In just one week my eyes look so much better, tighter, more hydrated. I've had no reaction with is a miracle in itself. Can't say enough about this eye cream. I'm hooked.

Self Tanners -Fusion Beauty - GlowFusion Micro-Nutrient Face Body Natural Protein Tan
caitmeg10 3/30/2008 8:50:00 AM
This product is under-rated IMO. Although I do not use it on my body, I do use it on my face, chest & neck. I prefer other, creamy, self tanners on my other body parts. I have found GlowFusion to give me a very natural tan color. I spray it into my hands and apply it to my face to avoid my naturally dark eye area from getting darker. You must work very quickly as it dries very, very fast. I then spray it directly on my neck & chest and rub it in to be uniform. The number 1 reason why I prefer it for my face is that I have found that any other self tanners I've used has turned my pores, gunk in my pores, dark or yellow which overtime, looks like blackheads and has clogged my pores and caused breakouts. Trying to keep up with exfoliating to clean out my pores and keeping the color of other tanners is a daunting task. This product eliminates this battle. Also, I can not stand the shimmer in most gradual self tanners on my face. Weird & yucky. As for price? I get it cheaper on Ebay and still although not cheap, I find it worth the price.

Blush -Cargo - Topeka
caitmeg10 2/3/2008 8:28:00 AM
I'm on my second pan & I just love this Cargo blush. Topeka is a good color for me, peachy bronze, however, if not Topeka, I suggest that you find your color & give Cargo blush a try. The formula is a silky powder, not sparkly, with just the right amount of "glow". A little goes a very long way as it it highly pigmented. I think I had my first pan for about 1 1/2 years, so it's well worth the investment. Also, the packaging is terrific IMO. The way the powder is set into the pan, (having a hollow space underneath & a hollow space between the lid & power) protects or cushions it from breakage in a fall. I've dropped mine at least 50 times and that darn pan never cracked! Love it. Go find your color! you won't be disappointed.

Treatments -Kiehls - Imperiale Moisturizing Cuticle Creme [DISCONTINUED]
caitmeg10 2/3/2008 8:12:00 AM
While feeling around, in the dark one night, for something to put on my dry, chapped lips, I reached into a basket of toiletries largely ignored by myself and my 2 teen daughters. I grabbed this jar and read Kiehls, so I was thinking it was a facial moisturizer of sorts. I opened it up & stuck my finger into the thick goo and ran it across my lips. I work up to much softer, hydrated lips & went searching for what this super product was. CUTICLE CREAM! haha! I've been using it on my lips since and I even use a dab on a bad flakie on my face from time to time. Gotta say I have no idea how it works on cuticles, but it works damn fine on my other dry parts. I've even used it at night under my eyes. Sparingly!! It's very thick and I would think it would case milia if used too often on the eye area. I read the ingredients and nothing looks scary so I continue to use it for it's unintended purpose. It does have a strange smell but I doesn't bother me at all. My daughter got it in a gift basket and it was abandon until I rescued it and added it to my night stand. Good stuff! I hope she doesn't come looking for it.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast
caitmeg10 2/3/2008 7:49:00 AM
Nothing special IMO. Packaging is awkward, brush hard to hold. Formula is just so-so. It did nothing for my fine, short lashes. I promptly gave it to my two teen daughters. They didn't fight over it either. Oh well.

Masks -Unlisted Brand - Aspirin Mask
caitmeg10 2/3/2008 7:45:00 AM
Best beauty investment ever. I keep a large bottle in the shower at all times. Not only do I use it as a mask, when I get really bad flakies, I add a drop of oil to dissolved aspirin & use it as a scrub. Works great! I also use it dissolved on my foot scrubber. Super!
