Lipstick -Besame - Enchanting Lipstick
brightredlips 12/11/2008 9:05:00 PM
I thought I had found my perfect vintage lipstick in Carmine. Small size yeah, but such a great consistency and the color is so gorgeous. And at the discounted price of $6 a pop, I could have stocked up on lovely red lips to last me a lifetime. Well, good thing I didn't. because on about the fifth use, the lipstick completely snapped of at the base and fell out of the tube. I caught it and replaced it. I threw it in the freezer in the hopes that it would magically fuse back together. No luck. So, I tried to use it despite being broken. All I got in the end was smushed lipstick and sadness. When the same thing happened with two other Besame lipsticks, I knew I would never have gorgeous 40's lips with Besame brand.

Lip Treatments -Burt's Bees - Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil
brightredlips 9/1/2008 1:29:00 AM
Adore this lip balm. I go through what seems like a stick a week the way I slather this stuff on. Love the scent, love the feel, love the beautiful tinted sheen. It just looks so natural, like I have lovely naturally red lips. I don't notice any taste per say. Then again, I don't go out of my way to eat my lip balm. =) I also don't mind the crushed beetles thing. Kind of a throw back to the Egyptians.

Foundations -Besame - Souffle Foundation
brightredlips 8/19/2008 12:21:00 AM
I picked this up during the Besame sale in Yellow Cameo since Bisque was sold out. The packaging is really cute and I love the glass jar it comes in. Classy. As expected, Cameo was too tan for me. I have a feeling thought that in a lighter color, this would be a perfect foundation for me. However, I discovered that if I apply this with a little bit of MF Pancake over it, the yellow is toned down. Throw on some Coty Airspun to cut down the dewy look of the Souffle and I've got lovely vintage skin. Oh, and the rose smell is border-line between old lady and classic scent. I still haven't decided which.

Mascara -Besame - Gingerbread 1930's Waterproof Mascara
brightredlips 8/6/2008 8:43:00 PM
I really like this mascara. especially compared to my last one. Rimmel yuck! This is nice and simple with lovely packaging. Basic black color that goes on wonderfully. As advertised, it doesn't clump and let me tell you, I piled it on. Something interesting I noticed was I could actually feel it coating my lashes and grabbing the little baby ones. But not in a painful way, just a slight friction that was kind of cool actually. The end result is pretty, black fringe. Not too long, not too voluminous. Just natural and pretty.

Lipstick -Besame - Enchanting Lipstick in Carmine
brightredlips 8/6/2008 8:00:00 PM
Time warp lipstick! Carmine is THE 40's lipcolor. Beautiful bright red-orange color that looks amazing with my fair-medium skin. I feel like Kathryn Hepburn in this lipstick. Super creamy and pigmented and has a satiny finish. Yes, it's tiny (smaller then my pinkie) and yes, I'm loath to put the cap back on for fear of cutting a chunk off the stick. But god! The color and texture more then make up for it's shortcomings. I hope Besame continues to make carmine when they revamp their stock. Love Love Love!

Lip Gloss -Everyday Minerals - Pink Lemonade Lip Gloss
brightredlips 8/4/2008 12:50:00 AM
Oh goodness no. I feel bad giving this a low review as it was a GWP and all but no...no..no. Maybe it's just my skin-tone but this was a frosty, lilac colored mess. It's described as a baby pink on the EM website. I saw no pink. I agree with the previous review: this is almost white! It did, however, seem pretty moisturizing for the few minutes I had it on. Hopefully, the other gloss colors are more wearable.

Powder -Everyday Minerals - Foundation Original Glo Formula
brightredlips 8/4/2008 12:38:00 AM
I was so hoping that the whole mineral mu deal would work for me. I guess I just had too high of hopes for a powder. Purchased two Glo foundations in Sandy Fair and Multi Tasking. Mixing them together, I ended up with a pretty good skin color match. And after I tapped and buffed and buffed and then buffed on the finishing powder, I had....well....an okay face. Not terrible. Decent coverage of my ruddiness and large pores. But for the money and the work and the hype, I was expecting flawless airbrushed glory. The packaging leaves something to be desired. But at least they are generous portions. and the HG quest continues.....

Makeup Brushes -Everyday Minerals - New Flat Top Brush
brightredlips 3/18/2008 1:04:00 AM
I must have gotten the one defective brush in the bunch because the very first time I tried out my new Flat Top brush, it was shed city. Shedding on my face, in the makeup pot, coming loose in the brush to where I had to sit and pick out bunches of loose hairs. I'm sooo disappointed because aside from the shedding, it's a nice brush. Very soft and I like the coverage it gives. But Lord, I'm afraid to keep using it. It won't last a week at the rate it's losing hairs.

Hair Color -John Frieda - luminous color glaze in radiant red [DISCONTINUED]
brightredlips 10/24/2007 9:43:00 PM
Wanted this product to work so much. Love dying my hair red but hate the quick color fade. So, what a perfect solution...right? Nope. I was ridiculously unimpressed by this glaze. The first time I used it, I lost a handful of product trying to apply it to my hair. The consistency is so slippery and jelly-like. Very difficult to get into yr hair. And once it's there, it doesn't do much. Left my hair kinda greasy afterwards. Maybe this works better for natural red hair but pretty much useless on my bottle red. And oh lord..does this stain yr hands! Bleh. Will not buy again.

Treatments -Sally Hansen - Spa Lavender Wax Kit
brightredlips 5/23/2007 4:38:00 PM
This is my second home waxing kit I've tried in my Hair-Free-at-Home quest. Wow. This stuff is BAD!! Super thick formula that was very hard to spread. I tried it on my legs and my underarms. It worked okay for the legs....took maybe 70 percent of the hair off. Under the arms...forget about it. Somehow it managed to hurt like a b#tch and not remove one single hair. Ridiculous. The finishing oil worked well for removing the excess wax and it smelled nice but that's about it for the good points. The mess, the lack of results...not at all worth the $12 I spent on this junk. Well, on to the next waxing kit.....sigh....

Palettes -Ben Nye - 12 color grand lumiere
brightredlips 5/19/2007 7:35:00 PM
High pigment eyeshadows for under $10??? Ben Nye, where have you been all my life? I love these shadows. Purchased the 12 color pallet and I love it. Beautiful colors that go on smooth and glowing. My favorite is Jade, lovely bright green. You can use them dry for a wash of color or apply them wet for super strong color. I get so many compliments when I were these and I love being able to tell people how inexpensive they are. The one downfall is they tend to fade and shift after a while on yr lid. Still trying to fix that problem. Other then that, these eyeshadows are a god-send.

Hair Removal -Nair - 15-Second Microwave Wax
brightredlips 5/19/2007 7:20:00 PM
Tried the 15 second microwave wax on my legs. This was my first time home waxing and overall, the product worked pretty well. The smell is nice, fruity and kinda soapy. Very little pain as long as you pull the strip off fast. It didn't remove all the hair; i had to go back a couple times and re-wax the same area. And there are still some strays! Another downside is that weird waved spatula....a bit difficult to handle. Super easy to clean up. I kept a wet washcloth next to me and used it to wipe off any wax that was left on my legs or got on my fingers. I love that you can reuse the strips....even though I went through most of the tub just on my legs, I'm keeping the strips to use another time. No sure if I'll buy this again. I think I'll try out some others before I stick with one brand.

Styling Products -Garnier - Fructis Style Mousse Volumizing
brightredlips 10/6/2004 8:08:00 PM
great product. initially, i bought this for that great garnier fruit smell. I use the shampoo and wanted my styling product to have the nice smell too. gives life to my flat listless hair and when i blowdry, boom! big hair. fun packaging too. i like the odd alien-looking dispenser. all in all, i dig it.

Lip Gloss -Urban Decay - XXX shine in Carney
brightredlips 9/15/2004 6:30:00 PM
love this product. great color sort of a pinky nude. goes on nicely and shines shines shines! also really like the peppermint smell/taste of it. my only problem is the awful awful packaging. the tip is rounded which i hate and it leaks. also, a couple days ago, i found that the tube split and is now leaking from the top as well. in addition to the full size tube, i have a little sample version from the holiday box set and that one has a slant tip and doesn't leak at all. i hope that u.d. starts to use that design in the future. packaging woes aside, i really like this gloss and will be buying it again.
