Cleansers -La Roche Posay - physiological micellar solution
rated 1 of 5

So, I got a little cocky with my skin. I finally had it clear for the first time in years. Instead of my usual routine, I decided to mix it up and try this micellar solution. Big mistake. This thing made two cysts erupt right smack dab in the middle of my face. I look like a damn unicorn now. I bought this, as the Bioderma micellar water isn't available here in America. I thought this would be a great alternative. Apparently not. Aside from breaking me out, it made my face feel a bit tight after using it.

Cleansers -Kiehls - Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser

I'm one of those few people here that has to disagree about this product. It broke my cheeks out SO BAD. I used it for a couple of months about two years ago and I continued to use it thinking that it wasn't what was causing my breakouts. The second I stopped, my breakouts weren't as bad. This is one of the worst products that has ever touched my face. It's loaded with harmful ingredients, i.e. menthol. It broke my cheeks out horribly.

I still have horrible hyperpigmentation on my cheeks from the cystic lesions this caused on my cheeks. What a failure of a product.

Cleansers -Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser
rated 5 of 5

HG! I'm super hesitant to use the phrase HG, as I'm scared I'll jinx myself, but I don't care in this case. Cetaphil is the ONLY cleanser I can use (I've tried Purity, CeraVe, Neutrogena Extra Gentle Facial Cleanser, La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser, Laura Mercier cleansing oil). Everything has irritated, broken me out, or caused my eyes to look bloodshot red. I always get bored and stray away from Cetaphil, as the bottle is huge, clunky, and just downright not attractive. And each time I decide to try something else, I completely regret. No more straying away from Cetaphil for me!

Sure, it has very minimal ingredients but that's what I like about it. I don't need any crazy ingredients that promise "amazingly clear skin" in my cleanser, as I find my skin get easily irritated by overloading it with products. Simplicity is key for me.

Cleansers -Cerave - Hydrating Cleanser
rated 1 of 5
boysavesworld 5/10/2012 3:34:00 AM

I'm on Accutane, meaning it's imperative to use a very gentle, hydrating cleanser. I strayed from my usual Cetaphil because I got bored. Guess what? That screwed me over BIG TIME. The second CeraVe touched my face, I was overcome with this burning sensation. I decided to ignore it since CeraVe is often recommended by countless dermatologists. Anyway, two days later, my face is red as a tomato and flaky -- almost like a sunburn. I'm still trying to recover.

For whatever reason, my skin seems to hate the majority of CeraVe products.

Sunscreen -La Roche Posay - Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid
rated 3 of 5

Great texture/consistency, doesn't feel heavy on the face.

However, two words: white cast! I'm Filipino, so I'm a bit tan. With that being said, this is probably much suitable for someone with more fair skin, as the white cast wouldn't be noticeable.

Cleansers -Philosophy - Purity Made Simple (Real Purity Cleanser)
rated 1 of 5

With a name like Purity Made Simple, I assumed this would be non-irritating. Boy, was I wrong. There's nothing pure about this cleanser. I mean, look at the hefty ingredient list! It was my mistake for giving into all of the hype and avoiding the ridiculous ingredients.

Purity Made Simple really irritated my eyes. I even had someone at work ask if I had a case of pink eye emerging. My eyes were bloodshot and itchy.

Oh, and this made me break out. It caused a total of three cystic zits for me -- one on my forehead, temple, AND CHEEK! Which is horrible because the cheeks are where I avoid breaking out most, as they are extremely prone to hyperpigmentation. This should take quite a while to heal, especially since my crappy skin takes forever to heal the cystic ones. :( NEVER again will I let this touch my face.

The ONLY plus about this cleanser is the cute packaging. That's about it.

Treatments (Eye) -Burt's Bees - Royal Jelly Eye Cream
rated 3 of 5
boysavesworld 2/21/2012 2:42:00 AM

I consider this eye cream pretty pricy for a drugstore product. I found this at a local organic market. I was so excited to try this little guy! It looked so cute in the adorable little jar. It's extremely waxy feeling, meaning there is tug when you're applying it. Another downside is the fact it kind of feels like it's just sitting on your eye area. With that said, it did end up causing pretty bad eye milia for me. This is probably much more suitable for very, very dry eyes.

Moisturizers -Cerave - Facial Moisturizing Lotion - PM
rated 1 of 5
boysavesworld 1/28/2012 8:04:00 PM

I was so excited to try this product. Everyone here on MUA seems to love it. I'd been using Cetaphil for a long while, and wanted to try something different. I was hoping for something that would plump my skin, reduce post-acne marks (I read Niacinamide would help with hyperpigmentation). This did none of that. Instead, by the third night, I experienced itchiness, redness, and scabbing. This is probably a great moisturizer for people that can tolerate Niacinamide. However, for those who are allergic: STAY AWAY! I'm glad I convinced myself to stop using this on the third night. I could have definitely experienced a lot worse if I decided to continue. I wanted to continue using this, as it was recommended by my dermatologist, and the fact that it's always touted as gentle. To sum it up: a great product if you know you aren't allergic to any of the active ingredients in this product. Edit: so for whatever reason, I've been trying out different moisturizers again, as I think Cetaphil is a bit too heavy and makes me look wet at all times. Anyway, I tried this out for ONE last time. And while I didn't have a bad/red reaction this time, my face ended up looking like CLOG CITY! No huge cystic zits or anything, but man, I ended up with some whiteheads.

Treatments (Eye) -Clinique - All About Eyes Rich
rated 2 of 5
boysavesworld 6/14/2011 10:36:00 PM

First of all, let me just tell you a little about my eyes. They're a complete and total pain. They're always prone to itchiness, dark circles, puffiness, and some premature wrinkles. I think this eye cream is a bit too moisturizing. Its broken my undereye area out a bit - milia type breakout. It's a complete shame, too. I loved it for the first two days. Then, by the third day, I noticed an annoying itchiness followed by breaking out. Looks like I'll be searching for the perfect eye cream yet AGAIN. :(

Masks -LUSH - Love Lettuce Mask
rated 1 of 5
boysavesworld 3/10/2011 3:11:00 PM

So, let me just say, I love this mask! I have horrible acne/scars on my cheeks. I feel like this really helped clean out my stubborn pores and reduced the redness in my cheeks. The only downside is, I see a tiny whitehead in my cheek now. I'm not sure if this is a reaction breakout, or if my pores are being "purged". EDIT: I've stopped using this a couple months back. My skin actually reacted pretty badly to this product.
