Moisturizers -DHC - Coenzyme Q10
rated 5 of 5

I have the most oily of all skins and am acne-prone even at the age of 37. Therefore, most creams just sit on top of my skin and prob. don't get absorbed enough to do what they do best. This is a HG for me because it absorbs well enough to wear for day and my skin looks better than a 25 year old. You have to use this for at least a month to see results. When I stopped using this for 2 weeks, I saw my previous results erased and I didn't have that young aura around my face anymore. I can't really describe it but this cream not only protected it but also reversed lots of things I had when I turned 35. The bags under the eyes, lines around eyes, nasolabial lines, forehead lines are hidden somewhere but I can't seem to find it. I gave a jar to my mom and she hasn't used it yet due to waiting for her Lancome cream to run out. I can't wait to see how this makes her look. It does seem expensive at $48 for a med. size jar but I have tried everything from the derm. office to drugstore and it is worth it. If you try it, give it at least a month. I don't know what DHC put in here but other products I've tried with Q10 doesn't give me quite the result. Maybe they put so much in there. That's why the cream is a crazy bright orange. Prevage is orange too but it didn't do anything for me.

Sunscreen -DHC - Suncut Q10 30
rated 4 of 5
bostonpiecooking 6/2/2007 11:55:00 AM

Oh how I wish this lotion did not make me look so white!!! I even have to apply this on my neck to make everything match! This sunscreen has a nice elegance to it and dries matte. It really holds off the oilies for a long time and the benefits of Coenzyme Q10 are usually beneficial. I hope that DHC changes the white sheen of this sunscreen because I hate walking around looking like a mime. I am pretty pale skin but you have to be alabaster to have this lotion look natural on you. I think I'll have to stick with Shiseido SPF 55+++ lotion. My next to try will be to try Sofina UV Perfect.

Treatments -Dr. Brandt - Lineless Anti-Glycation Serum
rated 4 of 5
bostonpiecooking 2/28/2007 11:25:00 AM

-Alistin: An antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties that protects proteins from glycation. Helps facilitate repair and reversion of cell membranes after oxidative stress causes cell death, and aids in returning collagen back to its normal condition. -Hydroxyprolisilane C: An amino acid; a major component of collagen. A protein that strengthens and provides stability to the structure of collagen, thereby preserving the moisture and elasticity of the skin. -Isoflavones Soybean (glycine soya): Protein extracts of soybean that contains different estrogen-like substances. Mimics effects of estrogen (phyto estrogens) on skin by aiding in the replenishment collagen and reverting glycation process. -Green and White Tea and Grapeseed Extract: Powerful antioxidants that fight free radical damage with anti-inflammatory properties. Twenty times the antioxidants found in vitamin C. Protects the collagen and elastin of the skin.

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Methylsilanol Hydroxyproline Aspartate, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Xanthan Gum, Decarboxy Carnosine HCL, Betaine, Tricaprylin, Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Prolinamidoethyl Imidazole, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Germ Extract, Caprylyl Trimethicone, Triisostearin, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, PVM/MA Copolymer, Lecithin, Methylparaben, Alcohol, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract, Beta-Carotene.

I rec'd a sample from Sephora and tried this out this morning before applying sunscreen. So far, I really like it. It is much better than the Chanel Precision Age Delay Serum or the Prescriptives Anti-Age SPF 25. Both of these products are supposed to be antioxidants and help prevent glycation. Prescriptives just burned my face and I found out it has Arginine in it which is a no no if you don't want your face to sag. Dr. Brandt's product is a thin clear serum that dries to a matte after one or two minutes. My face is not as puffy (may be due to the caffeine in the tea?) and the lines not as prominent. So far, no allergic reaction yet. I decided to give up Cellex C b/c I think it oxidizes too quickly which may harm my skin over an extended period of time of usage. The bottle is great because it has a pump dispenser and the container is not clear so as not to ruin the antioxidants. Although it is only one day, I will edit in two weeks for further results.

Sunscreen -Bioderma - Photoderm MAX Lait SPF 50plus PPD 35
rated 5 of 5
bostonpiecooking 10/17/2006 12:58:00 PM

I purchased the new formulation a month ago (www.leguidesante.com)and let it sit on my counter while I was using all my other sunscreens (LRP Anthelios XL Lait 50+, Cellex-C Sun Care SPF 30+, Shiseido SPF 50+++ Lotion, and Solbar Zinc SPF 38). While the Shiseido gave me a horrible local edema on my face (I pretty much had a moonface and thought it was my weight when it was really the Shiseido ingredients that my skin became allergic to since using Retin-A and Tazorac) for the entire 6 months (I found out my face wasn't moon shaped after I stopped using it), I decided I needed something that was light and fragrance-free. The LRP Anthelios, Cellex-C Sun Care, and Solbar Zinc were not at all cosmetically elegant. My skin is extremely oily and even loose powder did not help the tackiness. In fact the products made the loose powder build up and look like a mask. A couple of days ago, I reached for the Bioderma ss and smeared it on my face. It was matte and didn't allow my skin to become too oily over the course of the day. The biggest pro is that my face didn't have a reaction to it. In the hot Texas weather, I didn't get any darker. Just a pea size is good enough to spread on face and neck and wait about 20 minutes to settle into the skin. You can powder over it and it looks perfect. It does give a slight whitish cast but it's not as dramatic as LRP Anthelios Lait and it really is so much better than LRP dermo-peds 40 and Bioderma Photoderm Max Fluid because these were also tacky after application. I highly recommend this product. I will update in a month to determine the full effects and see if I get an allergic reaction.

Treatments -Peter Thomas Roth - Power C20 Anti-Oxidant Serum Gel
rated 3 of 5

I didn't see this product being reviewed but it sounds like a good product and good replacement for my Cellex-C since it is in an opaque pump bottle. Would like to know other reviewers' comments.

Toners -DHC - alpha Arbutin White lotion (toner)

I like this toner. It clarifies my skin and it's supposed to maintain elasticity. Lasts a long time and I can see my skin getting lighter.

Cleansers -Erno Laszlo - Sea Mud Soap
rated 3 of 5
bostonpiecooking 9/8/2006 6:12:00 PM

I didn't like the feeling of my skin after washing with this soap. Didn't feel clean at all. Would not repurchase and I think the price is steep for what it doesn't do.

Powder -Prescriptives - AnyWear Multi-finish compact foundation
rated 5 of 5
bostonpiecooking 9/8/2006 5:37:00 PM

I am a loose powder fiend and I usually stay away from pressed powder especially after trying most brands because they always make my skin look two shades darker. While I was at the Px counter, I was getting samples of moisturizers and the SA was very aggressive about me sampling this at the counter. Thinking that if she kept being aggressive I would just tell her "No Thanks" and just walk away. Well, she was too generous with the samples and it wouldn't be lady-like of me to take and run. While she was applying this the powder felt like nothing and I was expecting to look in the mirror and look at a darker face. Guess what? This powder made my skin look flawless and she did a great job color matching it to my skin. The compact is absolutely gorgeous and the puff is great too. The SPF is an added bonus especially when at the end of the work day I will already have blotted off most of the sunscreen from my oil-laden face. Yes, it's $32 bucks but it is so much better than buying so many others and not using it b/c of the wrong color or whatever reason that makes us keep pressed powder compacts in our bathroom drawers.

Lipstick -MAC - Pro Longwear Lustre - Luv-4-ever
rated 2 of 5
bostonpiecooking 9/8/2006 5:26:00 PM

I don't know what the fetish is about MAC. I do like their lip liners but the lipsticks and lipglosses are really nothing to write home about. The quality is just not the best for the prices you pay. This color ended up looking like frost and I had to keep re-applying the color and the gloss on top. Just too high maintenance for me and I would rather use the money to buy Dior, Chanel, NARS, Clinique, and Lancome. These brands are well known for their better lip lines.

Treatments (Eye) -Prescriptives - Intensive Rebuilding Eye Cream
rated 4 of 5
bostonpiecooking 9/8/2006 5:17:00 PM

This hydrated my eye area and it felt very light on. Highly recommended. I only use this at night since I use Murad's C eye treatment with SPF 15 in the morning. I will buy again.

Moisturizers -Prescriptives - intensive rebuilding moisturizer
rated 4 of 5
bostonpiecooking 9/8/2006 5:15:00 PM

I liked what this product did for my skin. It plumped it up really nice and it wasn't overly moisturizing or greasy for my oily skin. I felt like I had to apply more because it didn't feel moisturizing enough. I may need to try it for a longer period of time since I'm alternating this with Retin-A every other night. Good product but the $90 is a major hit in the wallet. Try samples from the counter before buying. I'm still not done using up my sample.

Treatments (Eye) -Murad - Essential C eye Cream
rated 5 of 5
bostonpiecooking 9/8/2006 5:11:00 PM

I had this in my bathroom drawer for the longest time and then decided to use it when I felt that my normal sunscreen was the source of milia near the eyes and the Retin-A was given me the crepiness. This really helps to keep your eye skin hydrated and protected from UV and environmental factors. I wished I had used this a long time ago. Now my skin looks so much better and I'm waiting for it to start firming up from the ingredients.

Skincare - Face -Philosophy - When Hope Is Not Enough - Serum
rated 3 of 5
bostonpiecooking 9/8/2006 5:07:00 PM

I'm somewhat undecided about this serum. I usually use the Cellex-C serum and then top it off with Cellex C Hydra serum and then Juice Beauty Antioxidant serum. While I was using this for a couple of days, it felt as though this was making my skin worse. I didn't feel protected from the environment or sun. I won't be purchasing this again as there are a lot better antioxidants out there for this price range.

Treatments -Philosophy - Resurface Kit - The Microdelivery In-Home Vitamin C Peptide Peel
rated 5 of 5
bostonpiecooking 9/8/2006 5:03:00 PM

This was a sample from skinstore.com and I almost put this on my swap list until I read the reviews. It's so easy to use and the results are almost immediate. My skin looked so refined and smooth after using this. When I run out of my sample I might make this a staple in my regimen.

Lipstick -Clinique - Almost Lipstick - Black Honey

This is a beautiful lipstick. I only wear this on special occasions because it is somewhat dark. This can complement any complexion. For better intensity, wear gloss on top.
