BB Cream -Maybelline - Dream Fresh 8-in-1 BB Cream
rated 2 of 5
bluffchick 6/25/2012 12:06:00 AM

I've been interested in trying a BB cream, but didn't want to spend $35 on the Smashbox one or $13 for the Garnier kind. Instead, I bought this Maybelline BB cream...$6.63 at Bed Bath and Beyond. Originally, I heard BB creams were greasy and with oily skin that wasn't going to work for me. The Maybelline Dream Fresh 8-in-1 BB cream is oil-free, so I liked that. But this is really just a tinted moisturizer. It provides zero coverage (even tinted moisturizer gives you a tiny bit of coverage). I'll use what I have, but I won't be buying this again.

Cleansers -Peter Thomas Roth - Beta Hydroxy Acid 2% Acne Wash
rated 5 of 5
bluffchick 11/27/2011 10:36:00 AM

I think I've found my HG cleanser! I typically flip-flop between drugstore products (Neutrogena has always worked well for me, but then my skin gets used to it and I feel like it doesn't work as well) and Mary Kay TimeWise cleanser (when I feel like spending that kind of money). I was introduced to this product at Macy's by a PTR rep who was doing skin care consultations. After explaining to her my 2 main skin concerns (oil control and acne), she recommended this cleanser to me. It's not everyday I spend $35 on a totally new product, but I loved how it made my skin feel just from a half-assed little application in the store (no sink and running water...just wet little pads and wiping). I've used this cleanser twice and I've already noticed a difference. No tingling or burning or anything. My skin feels a little tight, but not irritated or uncomfortable. My skin's texture is already smoother than before. Say what you want about a $35 bottle of face wash, but you literally use a pea-sized amount, so this 8.5oz bottle will last a long time! I will DEFINITELY repurchased this!!

Eye Shadow -E.L.F. - Mineral Eyeshadow
rated 5 of 5
bluffchick 4/18/2011 10:33:00 AM

Having never tried any E.L.F. products before, I was at Big Lots and saw packs of these mineral eyeshadows. There were 3 different groupings. Each set contained 2 eyeshadows and a brush for $4.50. The only thing I've ever know about E.L.F. is that it's supposed to be super cheap (most of their products are $1) but exceptionally good despite the low price. These eyeshadows are AMAZING!!!! I was expecting some powdery, barely pigmented eyeshadow that would crease quickly. These shadows are a perfect alternative if Bare Escentuals is too high-priced for you. Great colors, long lasting, colors didn't crease after 5+ hours of wear, and the brush I got is really nice!!! I'm definitely going to go back and buy the other color sets I saw.

Styling Products -TRESemme - Climate Control Tres Extra Hold Firm Control Mousse
rated 3 of 5
bluffchick 3/28/2011 10:18:00 PM

I bought this mousse for 2 reasons...to try something new and because I do have problems with frizzy hair (mostly split ends along the top of my head). Plus, Tresemme is very reasonably priced ($3.50 for a 10.5oz. can!). One reviewer here commented on the "gelled' look this gave her hair and the fact that it took forever to dry. I've had the exact same problem with this product. When my hair was still wet and had this mousse in, my hair felt really stiff and crunchy. But after some dilligent blow drying, my hair looked great and stayed nice for awhile. I have not tried any of the other Tresemme Climate Control products. I'd be curious to try the shampoo and conditioner, but if I did I probably wouldn't use this mousse along with it. I have a feeling I'd be looking at product overload or something.

Polishes -Sephora - Sephora by Opi - Mash Up / Will Schuester (Glee)
rated 4 of 5
bluffchick 3/7/2011 11:06:00 AM

I thought I was really going to like this based on the way it looked in the bottle, but when I put it on, I didn't like it as much. Sephora's website describes Mash Up as a opaque opalescent gray. It's really like a beige-y gray with a pink irredescence. IMHO, it kinda made my hands look like they were dead. Not a look I tend to go for. Definitely won't be re-purchasing. *As a sidenote, Sephora's polishes are made for them by OPI. On average, a bottle of OPI is $8. These Sephora colors are $9.50. A little pricey for me, considering I could easily go to another store and buy any OPI color under the rainbow.

Polishes -OPI - Black Shatter
rated 5 of 5
bluffchick 1/23/2011 9:25:00 PM

Finally!!! This stuff came out!!! I bought this polish this morning, along with the Teenage Dream color. TD is a nice pink glitter color. However, I would not use this with Black Shatter. While the results are really pretty, my nails feel really rough and scratchy due to the glitter chunks and the crackle effect. I'll definitely wear TD again...but not with Black Shatter. The OPI Black Shatter polish is amazing and my nails really do look like the hand model in the advertisements I've seen. It's rare that I get so excited over nail polish, but when it has a chemical reaction and crackles...that's reason enough to celebrate!!! This product has a slightly watery consistency. I had to dip the brush into the bottle 2-3 times per fingernail. By the time I was done, the edge of the bottle was kind of goopy. Think what your nail polish bottle looks like after you've had it for awhile and used it a bunch of times...this happened with my crackle polish after 5-10 minutes of use. I would recommend using Black Shatter with a solid color. Bright solid colors would work great (silver would look really cool!!). I did give this a slight downgrade with the price, because Ulta is not accepting their 20% off coupons for the OPI Katy Perry line. Boo! :-(

Lipstick -Revlon - Super Lustrous Lipstick in Cherry Blossom
rated 5 of 5
bluffchick 1/23/2011 9:51:00 AM

I bought this on the cheap ($2.00) at Big Lots. Since Revlon does a great job with the see-thru caps, I'm less concerned with guessing what the color looks like because I can actually see the product!! Cherry Blossom is a medium bright pink color. I'm always afraid colors like this are going to be TOO bright. Not this one! It's a great color...about 2 shades brighter than my natural lip color. I think this lipstick is great for everyday wear when you want something subtle, but still want to look like you have a bit of makeup on. I would definitely repurchase this and highly recommend this color to anyone if this sounds like something you'd buy for yourself.

Cleansers -Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser
rated 2 of 5
bluffchick 1/5/2011 10:17:00 PM

I've heard rave reviews online, in print, and on MUA over this cleanser for years!! I bought a bottle last week ($7.99 for an 8oz. bottle) and have been using it daily. This is a good daily cleansing wash and could be used by most skin types. However, it's just that. Cetaphil will clean your face for the day. But if you need oil control...probably not going to do that. If you break out and need to clear up acne quickly...this isn't going to help. I also don't like the smell of this product. I can't really describe it, but it smells like baby shampoo or something old people would use. I think this cleanser is best suited for people that have sensitive skin and minimal blemish issues. If that person is you and those are your needs, go ahead and try this cleanser. If you have different needs (such as acne control), try a completely different brand (there are TONS out there)!!

Treatments -Moroccanoil - Morrocan Oil Treatment
rated 5 of 5
bluffchick 11/18/2010 1:54:00 PM

I was just introduced to this product. This stuff is AMAZING!!! I didn't think I would like this product at all, since I have relatively fine hair and me putting oil-based styling products is just asking for trouble. Surprisingly, this wasn't the case. This is an oil, but it doesn't leave my hair greasy at all. Yes, this is a rather expensive product ($15 for a .085oz bottle) and a little bit does go a long way. But I when I finish my bottle I will probably go back and by more.
