Concealers -Quo - Colour Corrector

I really like this palette a lot. It's portable, easy to apply, and does a good job of correcting redness, dark circles, and uneven skin tone. I don't feel like I have to use a lot of product either so the effect is very natural, which is exactly what I'm looking for. It does crease a bit under the eyes and doesn't look freshly applied after 12 hours but I'm not sure I'll ever find a concealer that fits the bill completely. I do set with a light dusting of powder to combat any hint of a sheen and to up the staying power. The price is decent, the colours are great, and I like the packaging so it's a win for me.

Lotions/ Creams -Eucerin - Aquaphor Healing Ointment

This is a HOLY GRAIL for me. When I have chapped lips I just dab on the tiniest amount of this stuff and it's problem solved. Now I can wear any lipstick I want to, even notoriously drying matte and long wearing formulas, without worrying about flakes and crevices. I can't live without it.

Brows -Smashbox - Brow Tech To-Go
rated 4 of 5

My all time favourite brow product! The angled pencil makes filling in the gaps very, very easy and the colour is natural and long lasting. I like that the pencil is not too soft, not too waxy, and not powdery or crumbly. I usually stroke it on and then use a cheapo drugstore eyebrow grooming brush just to finish blending and shaping the colour into the brow. I honestly don't use the gel portion that often as it does flake a bit, I've never found a brow gel that didn't, but that doesn't bother me at all. In fact, if I'm really concerned about keeping my brows in order I dab on just a tiny hint of Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm, the kind in the tin, and then run the grooming brush over my brows. Sounds wacky, but it works, I promise!

Blush -BeneFit Cosmetics - Sugarbomb
rated 4 of 5
bikinipeach 11/4/2010 2:49:00 PM

I'm not much of a blush girl, but I do like Sugarbomb a lot. It's great for a sheer, natural flush that basically has a built it highlighter. The four shades allow you to customize the effect to a certain extent but none of the colours are particularly bright. The Benefit box is cute if a little cumbersome, and the included brush is okay for travel but I usually just apply it with an angled blush brush. It's shimmery and pretty, but sometimes I grow weary of its sweet girlishness. It's great for Sunday brunch and low key movie dates, and I like it layered over something more impactful for evenings out, but for work I prefer something matte.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous mascara
rated 4 of 5

I love this mascara even though it's a little tricky to apply. It's a drugstore cheapie that gives mega volume but it does clump. I do two or three coats for a really dramatic look, but I always end up using Rimmel Lycra Lash Extender over top, concentrating at the tips, to complete the false lash effect. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to more expensive products like YSL Faux Cils and Lancome Hypnose, then this is your best bet.

Mascara -Rimmel - Lycra Lash Extender
rated 4 of 5

I usually use this mascara as a second coat over a volumizing formula, concentrating on the tips, and it does exactly what I want it to do. It makes my lashes look super long and fanned out, and it really holds a curl well. On its own it makes my lashes look naturally long and defined. The formula is buildable and I really like the brush because it grabs every lash. If you like really dramatic lashes and don't mind an extra step, try the mix and match method with a volumizing mascara and you won't be disappointed. It's pretty on its own but I really prefer it as a length and curl booster over top of something like L'Oreal Voluminous or Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume. Trust me!

Liquid -Maybelline - Dream Liquid Mousse
rated 4 of 5
bikinipeach 11/4/2010 1:40:00 PM

The texture of this product is amazing, it's easy to blend, and the coverage is natural while still concealing all my flaws. Even if I skip primer, it looks great and provides a great base for my other makeup. I also think it passes the flash photography test in that the colour stays true and doesn't look any lighter, ashy, or washed out. The pump top bottle is a definite plus. My only gripe is that it doesn't hold up as well in my T-zone as I would like it to and halfway through a 10 hour work day I have the dreaded shiny nose. Still, this foundation is a drugstore steal and I would recommend it as long as you don't have oily skin.

Misc Beauty Tools -Red Earth Cosmetics - Eyelash Curler
rated 4 of 5
bikinipeach 11/4/2010 1:10:00 PM

This eyelash curler is aces. I bought it four or five years ago at a Shopper's Drug Mart Beauty Boutique and I'm still using the same one. If it ever wore out I would probably buy it again but I'm not sure that they even make it anymore. I have large, round eyes with a lot of eyelashes and this curler does a commendable job, though it does tend to miss a couple of the lashes in the very inner and outer corners. I use this curler every day so it's definitely dependable. I get a strong, natural looking curl with staying power, even without mascara. The rubber pad is easily removed and replaced which makes cleaning a breeze.

Eyeliner -Revlon - ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen
rated 4 of 5
bikinipeach 11/4/2010 12:59:00 PM

I found this eyeliner pen extremely easy to use. When I am trying to achieve a 60s winged eye look, it does the job nicely. I do have to retrace my line once or twice to get that bold, dark line, but it has staying power. For $10CAD, it's a bargain.

Eye Makeup Remover -Biotherm - Biocils Lash Optimizer
rated 5 of 5
bikinipeach 11/4/2010 12:56:00 PM

This is my HOLY GRAIL eye makeup remover. I am one of those people who cannot go to sleep unless every tiny speck of eye makeup has been washed away. This does the trick every time, and with very little effort. I shake up the bottle and then wet two cotton pads with the product, generous but not sopping wet, and hold them against my eye area for about a minute. Then, using very light pressure, I swipe the pads over my eyes once or twice. I'm usually done at this point. If I'm wearing especially heavy eye makeup I may turn over the pads and repeat the process but no rubbing or fussing is required. My eye area always feel lightly moisturized afterwards, never dry or itchy. My lashes look better than ever, glossy and well conditioned. I barely ever lose a lash during makeup removal now so they honestly look longer and thicker. The 125mL bottle is around $30CAD at Shopper's Drug Mart, which is a little steep, but I think it's worth it. If it was $50CAD, I would still buy it, that's how much I love it. I have noticed that the product leaks out a little bit when i shake it, but it's only a tiny dribble. Still, for the price you'd think they could put a more secure lid on the bottle. The 125mL bottle lasts me about a month. All in all, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product. Minimum fussing, optimal results.
