Polishes -Revlon - Top Speed Nail Polish

Clearly not everyone likes Top Speed but I think the formulation differs so much between colours, you can't write off the entire line. I have three Top Speed polishes- Bubble, Orchid and Sheer Cotton. They are all so, so different. . The Orchid is a pink metallic that lasts for ages (don't like it on my skin tone though). Sheer Cotton is a lovely pale pink/nude colour but it is so sheer you need 3 coats for opacity and it looks a bit lumpy as a result. Bubble is a recent purchase and is my favourite. It's a stunning bright, deep pink that looks beautifully opaque after two coats. . Staying power is not the greatest because I find Revlon polishes don't play that well with my top coat of choice (SH Insta Dri).

Concealers -Almay - line smoothing concealer
rated 3 of 5
beingfollowed 9/8/2012 12:38:00 AM

Interesting to see the mixed reviews of this concealer. I picked it up because I've been trying to find an undereye concealer that doesn't get stuck in the lines under my eyes or accentuate dryness. I'm 29 and this is an increasing issue for me. I recently tried the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer and was so disappointed at how drying and awful it was for fine lines. I decided to pick this one up because I have this perception that Almay caters for slightly older skin so I thought they would know what they were doing when it comes to fine lines. Overall I would say this isn't a bad concealer. It doesn't accentuate fine lines or undereye dryness (though it doesn't completely mask these things either). It lasts pretty well and gives a good level of coverage. I will repurchase if I don't find something else better.

Crème -Revlon - ColorStay Whipped Creme Makeup
rated 4 of 5
beingfollowed 9/8/2012 12:25:00 AM

For reference, I'm 29 and have combination skin (dry cheeks and nose, oily chin). . First impressions: I would say the product is a little disappointing first off because the jar is not entirely full, as it is in promotional pictures. The jar is heavy and glass which makes the product seem a bit more high end. I hate that it's not a pump product, but I guess you can't really expect that with a creme foundation. The texture is think, being a creme, which took me a while to get used to as I generally use liquid or powder foundations. . Colour: as suspected even the lightest shade, Buff, is a tiny bit dark for me but not overly so. It doesn't oxidise or get darker on me after application which is a relief. . Application: I've tried using a brush, sponge and fingers and find that fingers work best as I have the most control over coverage this way. . Coverage: This foundation works best on the dry parts if I have thoroughly moisturised before hand. It doesn't seem to stick to the dry bits or look flaky which is nice. For the oily parts, like my chin, most foundations start to 'separate' about half way through the day. It's hard to explain but it sort of looks spotty and uneven. This foundation, however, does not do this and chin looks even throughout the day. Coverage is probably medium on me however you could definitely sheer it out or build it for fuller coverage. . Finish: This foundation feels moist for probably about 5-10 minutes before it sinks in nicely (baring in mind that this is in dry winter conditions, don't know how it goes in humidity or high temps). It ends up in a satin-to-matte finish which stays pretty even throughout the day. . Wear time: Haven't tested the 24 hour claim but I can definitely wear this for a good 10 hours without even a touch up. I reapplied my foundation before going out last night out of habit but actually didn't really need to as it's looked almost exactly as it did when I put it on in the morning. . Final Verdict: I was pleasantly surprised by this foundation, especially it's performance on both oily and dry skin.

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow in Tough as Taupe
rated 1 of 5
beingfollowed 8/10/2012 11:10:00 PM

I'm wondering if I got a bad batch or something because no one seems to have the same issue as me- THESE DON'T LAST! '24 hour color tattoo' would suggest that the product is long wearing, right? Wrong! I've used Tough as Taupe in a smokey eye as well as a base for a lighter look and each time the eyeshadow has disappeared in about an hour. It's weird because it goes on so pigmented and matt and you think 'woah, this is dark!' but then it just slides off/disappears. I have fairly dry lids and have never had this problem before with cream or powder eye shadows. I find that it either totally disappears or it slides up into my crease and sits there like a gross residue. I haven't tried it with an eye lid primer yet (I've never had to buy one before as this has never been an issue for me). The Max Factor Masterpiece Colour Precision eyeshadows, which are much more liquidy, stay on for way longer. The good thing was that I got this on sale at Coles Supermarket (AUS) for $8 and something cents. I would have been super upset if I bought this at full price.

Liquid -Bourjois - Flower Perfection Youth Extension Foundation
rated 2 of 5
beingfollowed 6/11/2012 1:11:00 AM

Not my favourite bourjois foundation, that's for sure. For the record, I much prefer the Healthy Mix Gel foundation (red cap) to this. I've tried applying this with fingers, Real Techniques buffing brush and a sponge. . Pros: lots of coverage, way more than I was expecting and way more than the Healthy Mix ones. Lightest colour is lighter than the Healthy Mix lightest, which is great for pale people like me. A little goes a long way. . Cons: Flat, dull finish. It gets tacky really quickly so you need to do a section of the face at a time. Then it stays tacky for a good 30 minutes, even if you've powdered. I hate that feeling and I get paranoid that any slight touch to the face is rubbing off the foundation. The pump is good but the bottle shape is a bit stupid and the built in sponge is a waste of time.

Polishes -Chi Chi - Chi Chi Salon Formula
rated 5 of 5
beingfollowed 4/28/2012 9:39:00 AM

I randomly pick up a Chi Chi polish every now and again but it's not a 'go to' nail brand for me. In saying that though, I've never been disappointed by a Chi Chi polish. They are so ridiculously cheap and come in so many shades and styles (glitter, shimmers, shatters etc). . My favourite shade at the moment is Hopelessly Devoted which is a medium-deep pink that is so opaque you can easily get away with one coat. As for staying power, I can't comment too much because I always wear them with an Essie base coat and Sally Hansen Insta Dri which seems to keep my polish on for a minimum 4 days, no matter the brand.

Mascara -Max Factor - Xperience Volumising Mascara
rated 4 of 5
beingfollowed 4/25/2012 10:16:00 AM

Hands up if you got this in the Priceline Beauty Bag? I've been a long time devotee of Max Factor's False Lash Effect and have been disappointed every time I've tried any new mascaras since. This was free so I had nothing to lose in trying it out. I was pleasantly surprised and have used it every day since getting it. It's curiously called 'Volumising Mascara' but I find it to be more lengthening than volumising. In fact, if I had to find a negative, it would be that it separates and defines my lashes, whereas I generally prefer a more volumised 'lots of lashes' look. I have pretty long lashes anyway and wear glasses, so length is not really a priority for me. Regardless, I have enjoyed this mascara for its staying power (which seems to be a common characteristic of Max Factor mascaras) and its ability to hold a curl all day. I would pay money for this.

Palettes -Stila - Light Up The World
rated 3 of 5

Strawberrynet had this at 75% off so I had to snap it up, in spite of the so-so reviews. I agree that not all the colours are particularly pigmented. The lighter ones especially are a bit hit-and-miss. Some of the more bronzey and purpley colours are quite lovely and are highly pigmented. I apply these shadows over a cream eyeshadow because they stay a lot better and I don't get as much fall out when applying. I've had the lightest, the two mauvey colours and one of the bronzes on today and 14 hours later, I still have visible shadow so staying power can't be too bad. Definitely recommend using a primer or a cream eyeshadow as a base.

Lipstick -Maybelline - Color Sensational in Sugar Plum #330
rated 5 of 5
beingfollowed 4/8/2012 12:45:00 AM

This is a sweet pinky colour, with a hard-to-explain mauve undertone and peachy gold highlights. It gives me that "my lips but better" look. The fomula feels really creamy and goes on a bit like a cream balm. It has a slight sheen to it so it looks glossy even when it's been on a while. Doesn't have a lot of staying power so you'll need to reapply after a meal. Overall, I really like this lipstick as the colour is just perfect for me.

Eye Shadow -Revlon - Colorstay 12-Hour Eyeshadow quad " Sterling Rose "
rated 3 of 5
beingfollowed 3/30/2012 8:11:00 AM

Yes the colours are lovely but they are not very pigmented. The formulation is just okay but can be a bit chalky. No problems with fallout. Only the bluish colour actually lasts all day (I've had it on since 8am this morning and it's the only colour still remaining at 11pm). The pink champagne colour is nice but doesn't show up very well and disappears very quickly. The beige colour lasts a little bit longer. Both look quite shimmery in the pan but not as much on my eyelid. I use the charcoaly-black with a flat brush along the lash line and that lasts about 5 hours. Don't know if I'd buy it again. Not all the colours live up to the 12 hours claim.

Misc Beauty Tools -Clarisonic - Mia
rated 2 of 5
beingfollowed 3/19/2012 9:34:00 AM

I've been using my Clarisonic Mia for two and a half weeks now so this is an 'early stages' review. I will update this review in another two weeks. . Good things- I do notice that my night cream and my foundation seem to go a lot further than they used to. My night cream absorbs in about 20 minutes now whereas it used to not really absorb at all and I'd wake up feeling a little greasy still. I'm now able to use about 1/3 less of my liquid foundation to get the same level of coverage I previously got (I don't quite get why this is but it just is). . Bad things- CHIMPLES! I've been using the Mia once every second day but I forgot to use it one day so for the last two days I used it both days. BIG MISTAKE. I now have a massive cystic pimple on my chin. It's huge and red and very deep under the skin. Urgh. I also have a couple of black heads and white heads on my chin that have popped up literally overnight. I never usually get pimples or even congested skin on my forehead but I now seem to have 3-4 small bumps up there. Again, these literally appeared overnight. I know from previous reviews that some purging is to be expected. I could have dealt with a white head or two but wtf, this chimple hurts! . I don't get the 'ultra clean' feeling that people talk about. I've used a couple of different cleansers with the Mia but haven't felt that they have got my skin any cleaner than just using them with my hands. Maybe I just haven't found the right cleanser? . Lastly, I am using the sensitive brush but sometimes it feels a bit to rough for my skin. I use a very light tough yet it still feels a bit abrasive. I haven't encountered major redness or skin issues relating to this so maybe I just need to toughen up. . Hopefully in another two weeks I can report that I have glowing, chimple-free skin!

Polishes -OPI - You're a Pisa Work
rated 5 of 5

I get so many compliments when I wear this colour. It definitely looks different on the nail than in the bottle but I also think it looks different in different lighting. During the day, sometimes it's looks red, sometimes coral, other times fuschia. I like that though.

Polishes -Essie - Ballet Slippers
rated 5 of 5
beingfollowed 3/18/2012 9:17:00 AM

This is my favourite natural, nude nail colour! It's hard to find sometimes because it seems to sell pretty well. Many of the other nude shades from Essie are too pink for my skin (I'm looking at you Mademoiselle and Ador-a-Ball). Yes, Essie nail polishes are thin so you are going to need a couple of coats. After getting used to the consistency, you'll get a nice result out of two coats. Love this!!

Polishes -Essie - After Sex
rated 5 of 5
beingfollowed 3/18/2012 9:12:00 AM

Love this- bought it on holiday in London so it's a nice reminder. As Essie polishes tend to be on the thinner side, it takes two coats for an even colour. With Sally Hanson Insta Dry over the top, I get about 3 days wear out of this. The colour is hard to describe- a darkish red with a very subtle shimmer? It reminds me of OPI Bogota Blackberry but maybe a tad pinker. It would be great if Essie had slightly thicker brushes but otherwise it's fine.

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Rapid Clear Oil-Control Foaming Cleanser- New
rated 1 of 5
beingfollowed 3/18/2012 8:53:00 AM

Argh! I just used this with my Clarisonic and it foamed up majorly and got in my eye. Seriously, OW! It's like I was stabbed right in the eye ball. I do not recommend using this with a Clarisonic unless you want red, bloodshot and swollen eyes. Otherwise, it's an ok cleanser for drying out my skin. I don't need to use it very often as my skin is more on the dry side, but it's fine for every now and again when I'm feeling a little oily or having a breakout.
