Misc Beauty Tools -Clarisonic - Mia
rated 4 of 5

Okay. I made up my mind that I would not post a review on this product until I had used it for at least three months. I am now five months into using it, so feel that I now have an accurate understanding of what the clarisonic mia has done for MY skin. And thats the key.... MY skin... because as I go through other reiews of this product. it appears that everyone has a different experience of this product. My advice is that you will need to develop a routine of using mia that suits your skin. After reading extensive reviews about this product I took a leap of faith and purchased mia. Lets face it, in these difficult economic times, who wouldnt break out in a sweat at the thought of parting with 109 English pounds for a beauty tool. Its not like its a necessity!! Okay, I have dry, maturing skin. Its not hyper sensitive, but I will experience irritated, burning skin if the product is too full of chemicals or strong fragrance. I have been told that I have a good complexion and to be honest I do not have blemishes or spots on my face. My main motivation for buying it is was to have a deeper cleansing experience. I love wearing makeup and wear foundation nearly every day. I use the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish twice a day with a muslin cloth but felt I needed something a little deeper to supplement the routine. I chose the sensitive brush to be on the safe side. I initially used it every night for about two weeks with my Liz Earle cleanser. I absolutely loved the results. My smooth complexion became even smoother and had a certain glow to it. I also noticed that I did not have to use my usual two pumps of my luminous foundation as my skin seemed to have a luminosity of its own (one pump now sufficed). Such was my excitement at these results I decided to use it in the morning as well. My skin looked absolutely amazing for about a month. THEN I started to notice dry flaking skin on my nose, my skin became drier and that luminosity initially observed disappeared leaving me with dull skin. Throughout this, I have no doubt though, that my skin was being thoroughly cleansed. You can imagine my disappointment at how my skin appeared to be changing...for the worse. If the mia had been maybe twenty english pounds, I may have clled it a day and put it down to experience. However given the the money I forked out I was not prepared to give up just yet. So I decided to restrict the use of the Mia to once a week. Result!!!. The dry, flaky skin has disappeared and has remained smooth. I have noticed that my moisturisers absorb so much better and I need less foundation to give a good coverage From my experience I woukd advise anyone purchasing this is that they have to understand that the Mia is a deep(er) cleansing system. Therefore there may be some trial and error in determining how your skin reacts to that. As I started out with blemish free skin I cannot comment on its effectiveness in addressing spots, acne etc. Though I guess having scrupulously clean skin has got to be a benefit. Overall I would purchase Mia again if and when my current one stops working

Lotions/ Creams -L'Occitane - 20% Shea Butter Hand Cream
rated 5 of 5
beautyaddict09 11/20/2010 3:15:00 PM

Due to the price I tend to ask for this on my birthday and Xmas Lists!! I just wish this product was cheaper as it is one of the most amazing hand creams I have ever used. I am prone to a few patches of eczema on my fingers and my hands generally are dry. Using this a couple of times a day moisturizes and soothes my hands. Within a day or so of using this cream my hands look and feel hydrated in a way that my prescription moisturizers fail to do.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lipglass- Pop Mode
rated 5 of 5
beautyaddict09 12/28/2009 8:23:00 PM

Bought as a Christmas present for me by my teenage daughter. The colour is spot on for me. Its a plum colour with bronze/gold/copper undertones. Love the colour on my dark skin. Can be used lightly for every day use or applied more thickly for a dramatic full on evening look. I love lip glosses with staying power and do not mind some stickiness to achieve this. So very pleased with this product and will purchase it myself when this one finishes.

Treatments -Avon - Hydra-Radiance Night serum [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5

I was really surprised by this product. I only started using it a few weeks ago when my budget could not stretch to my usual liz earle superskin oil and I had to look through my cabinet to find a 'substitute' until pay day. This product achieves what it sets out to do: gives your skin a radiant hydrated glow. Honestly my skin is absolutely glowing!!! I experienced a slight tingling when I first applied it, so fully expected to breakout within a few days. The breakout has not happened . So whilst I still experience some tingling, it does not appear to be for the worst. I apply it to a freshly cleansed face and then apply a moisturizer. I am going to stick with this product for now(even though pay day arrived!!) as I am so pleased with its performance and its price!!

Pressed Powders -Iman - Oil Blotting Translucent Powder
rated 5 of 5
beautyaddict09 6/12/2009 11:44:00 AM

I really like this product. I use it in the deep shade. Blots really well and does add a touch of colour, so make sure you choose the correct shade. Dont use a puff/sponge or else you will look like coco the clown. Using a brush gives a nice polished look

Pressed Powders -Iman - Luxury Pressed Powder
rated 4 of 5
beautyaddict09 6/12/2009 11:40:00 AM

MAC NW47/50 for reference. This powder is like velvet. You do not need to apply a lot as I find it can look like you have been dipped in flour. That said, a light application with a sponge or better still a brush really adds something. Word of warning though. You will need to use blotting powder over this at some point. I have dry skin and yet I start to look oily during the day. This powder is not my first choice for summer but definitely like using it in the cooler months

Crème -Iman - Cream to Powder
rated 5 of 5
beautyaddict09 6/12/2009 11:31:00 AM

NW47/50 for reference. This, as well as MAC studio tech is my mainstay foundation. This formulation works well with my dry skin. Really easy to apply, but just need to be cautious and not apply it too heavily. Although it is a cream to powder formulation i guess someone with oily skin will need to use blotting powder at various points in the day. I can wear this from 7am to 11pm and at the most may have to touch up twice in that time. For some reason I find this formula okay to wear during the summer months as well

Liquid -Iman - Second to None Oil Free Makeup
rated 3 of 5
beautyaddict09 6/12/2009 11:25:00 AM

NW47/50 for refernce. I used to wear this in earth 5 several yrs ago. Decided to try it again and was quite disappointed with it. I do not know if I have become more discerning in the intervening years due to you tube, makeup alley and specktra. Or maybe Iman has changed the formula. Either way the foundation left this strange 'white cast' over my face which looked really unnatural. One of my friends thinks it may be due to the sunscreen contained in the product. I am sure it had sunscreen in several years ago and did not look like that. Just in case, I had chosen the wrong colour I tried Earth 4 as well recently. Still the same strange white cast. One positive is that I only needed the minimal touch up during the day, but the positive was not enough to convince me to make another purchase. Love most of the Iman products. Just not this one!!

Eye Shadow -NYX - Jumbo Eye Shadow Pencil - French Fries
rated 5 of 5
beautyaddict09 6/12/2009 11:14:00 AM

NW47/50 for reference. This is my favourite nyx jumbo pencil. It has a smooth creamy texture. I apply it with my fingers over UDPP, blend it it in with a brush, pat a little Iman nutmeg shadow on, line my eyes and then I am good to go!! Never worn it on its own so do not know what the creasing poential is, but as a base I have no complaints. The colour is a mix of gold, bronze with a metallic antiquated look if that makes sense. I think this colour can really be rocked by dark skinned girls.

Eye Shadow -Iman - Luxury Eye Shadow in Nutmeg
rated 5 of 5
beautyaddict09 6/12/2009 11:03:00 AM

NW47/50 for reference. I looove this colour. Its a deep golden bronze colur on my dark skin. The texture reminds me somewhat of urban decay deluxe shadows. I used to struggle with finding a golden/bronze eyeshadow which suited my skin tone. No more!!

I am a NW47 for reference. I purchased this after reading some of the reviews on this site. I really like this colour and think that it compliments my skin tone beautifully. Even my boyfriend commented on it when i wore it the first time. Will defintely be used more as the weather gets warmer as this for me will be my Summer colour. Suitable for both day and evening wear. Just need to adjust the coverage accordingly.

Skincare - Body -Unlisted Brand - Pears - The Original Transparent Soap
rated 4 of 5
beautyaddict09 3/15/2009 8:35:00 PM

My parents have a saying,"Old time sumting come back again".(basically things that were previously in fashion have come back into fashion). This is so true of Pears Soap. Used to use this 30 years ago as a child after my aunt recommended it to use on my dry, eczematic skin. Then I grew up, got more money and was seduced by all the fancy body washes. Recently purchased this whilst in a nostalgic mood.Glad that i did as i am using this in place of my body wash and it has made such a difference to my skin, It is softer and less irritable. I have noticed that when my eczema breaks out I can use this without it irritating the skin further. Not sure how it performs on the face but really pleased with the effect it has had on my body. Will definitely be purchasing again

Primer/ Corrector -Unlisted Brand - Monistat - Chafing Relief Powder-Gel
rated 5 of 5
beautyaddict09 3/15/2009 8:21:00 PM

I had no previous experience of primers so cannot compare it to other products. But then I do not need to as this works so well for me. Leaves a really silky and smooth finish to my skin. Probably works better for dry skin, which i have. I think it makes my foundation go on a lot more smoothly and last longer. Plus it is dirt cheap compared to the other primers I see on the market.

Crème -MAC - Studio Tech
rated 4 of 5
beautyaddict09 3/15/2009 7:05:00 PM

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this product. As I am becoming became more skilled in makeup application it is leaning more towards the love side. I used to apply it with a sponge with the end result of looking a bit like coco the clown as the coverage was so thick. Thanks to youtube tutorials and makeupalleyI have moved on from that. I now apply primer(monistat anti chafing gel) over my moisturized face, then spray liz earle instant skin boost tonic on my mac 190 foundation brush(don't see the point of getting fix+ when i already use liz earle products anyway and the tonic has some of the ingredients as fix+), then apply the foundation by patting it on all over my skin. I then pat a makeup wedge over the application to tone down the coverage. I set with a dusting of powder and the end result is an airbrushed complexion which I absolutely love. The only downside to this product is that even though i have dry skin, i end up having to blot every three hours or so, despite applying blot powder after my initial application. However for a special event or those days when I want a little 'oomph' to my face, it is well worth it. I am a NW47 for reference. Not quite my holy grail foundation but will do for now.

Eyes -NYX - jumbo eye shadow pencil-black bean
rated 4 of 5
beautyaddict09 3/7/2009 6:28:00 PM

I was really hesitant about using this after reading some of the reviews about creasing, but thought what the hell give it a try as I was looking for a creamy black shadow. I really really like it!! A little goes a long way. I applied it ffrom the stick to my UDPP eyelid, then smoothed it out with a small eyeshadow brush. Then patted on a black eyeshadow over it. Had no creasing and it lasted all day. Added an extra oomph to my smokey eye look. Will definitely purchase again.
