Lip Gloss -MAC - Dazzleglass - Baby Sparks
rated 5 of 5
bassetmomma 5/11/2013 7:52:00 AM

This is my favorite MAC lip gloss. I was actually accused of having had lip injections when I wore this once to a barbecue. The light-reflecting pigments certainly give your lips a fuller appearance. The shade is a pretty light peachy pink. I also like the scent - a yummy vanilla. My only gripe is the brush. It's rather small and inflexible, especially the first few times you use it. I would much prefer a doe-foot applicator. Still a keeper.

Self Tanners -Clarins - Delectable Self Tanning Mousse with Mirabelle Oil SPF 15
rated 5 of 5
bassetmomma 5/11/2013 7:10:00 AM

I only use this on my face. I like the fact that it has an SPF 15, so I can forgo my other daily moisturizer on days I want to bronze. A word of warning: when applying self-tanner to the face, make sure you blend it up into the hairline. Failure to do so will leave you with ring-around-the-face. Not a good look and a dead give-away that you've been fake baking. I like the color that develops when I use this product. A nice product to alternate with Clains Liquid Bronze. No self-tanner smell either. Probably not a good choice for someone with oily skin or acne given its creamy consistency. Perfect for a middle-aged broad like myself.

Self Tanners -Clarins - Liquid Bronze
rated 5 of 5
bassetmomma 5/11/2013 7:04:00 AM

I bought this, in part because "InStyle" magazine chose this as the best facial self-tanner for 2013. I have to say application is easy. Put some on a cotton ball, swab it evenly around your face, and wait. The color that develops is a believable bronze. A keeper.

Self Tanners -Bare Escentuals - Faux Tan
rated 3 of 5
bassetmomma 5/11/2013 4:58:00 AM

If you watch QVC like I do, then you probably know that there's one host who swears by this product. She even claims that she once had some "Faux Tan" flown into Italy when she realized she forgotten to pack some in her luggage. I tried this, partly because of her glowing review, and partly because a family member had used it with good results. Of course, I had to buy the large economy size only available through the Q. It came with an application brush. I followed the instructions, pumping the product directly on the brush and then swirled it over my skin in a circular motion. The product looks like chocolate pudding, supposedly to help you see where you applied it. Sadly, I like to self-tan after my shower in the morning and then go to work. I can't wear this out because with the color guard, I look like I just took a bath in chocolate pudding. I ended up with a streaks after applying this. The brush application didn't work for me. Perhaps this product would work for someone with naturally deeper skin than mine. I will stick to my St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse and Mitt!

Lotions/ Creams -Laura Mercier - Almond Coconut Milk Souffle Body Creme
rated 5 of 5
bassetmomma 5/11/2013 4:46:00 AM

Working as a dental hygienist, I get "up close and personal" with patients. I literally invade their personal space so I get to see and smell up close what beauty products they are using. Last week, I had a middle-aged male in my chair. Mid-way through the cleaning, I smelled the unmistakable scent of coconut. Turns out he was wearing LM's Almond Coconut Body Souffle. Not sure if it's his or if he swiped some from his wife's stash, but it got me to thinking, I own that stuff, too. So I broke out my jar and spray, just in time for the warmer weather. If you want to smell like summer, Almond Coconut Body Souffle is one to try. Though not inexpensive, you get a lot of product in a very nice glass container. I love the creamy, whipped texture. It's highly perfumed so you really don't need the spray that's also available in this collection. I wore this to work this week and was immediately told how nice I smelled. The coconut and almond together create a sweet, tropical aroma that's not too over-powering or cloyingly sweet. I'll be wearing this one all summer.

Scrubs -St. Ives - Apricot Scrub
rated 5 of 5
bassetmomma 5/11/2013 4:34:00 AM

If you self-tan, this is a great, inexpensive product for pre-tanning exfoliation. I buy this in a jar for around 5 and change. You get plenty of product for all-over exfoliation. The product is creamy but oil-free. The fine particles do a great job smoothing down rough areas. It rinses clean away but can be a little bit of a pain to remove from the shower stall. Highly recommend this one if you need an inexpensive fake bake exfoliator.

Highlighters -Bobbi Brown - Shimmer Brick Shimmerbrick Compact in Bronze
rated 5 of 5
bassetmomma 5/11/2013 4:28:00 AM

My favorite bronzer! Don't let the "Shimmer Brick" name scare you away from this product. I barely notice any shimmer when I wear this . It imparts a natural looking bronze color. The color is perfect because it's not at all orange, nor is it too dark or flat brown. Other brown-based bronzers can make my skin look dirty. This one doesn't. I apply it with Bobbi's face blender brush which is a great tool for an even application.

Self Tanners -St.Tropez - St.Tropez Tinted Self Tanning Mousse/Whipped Bronze
rated 5 of 5
bassetmomma 5/11/2013 4:22:00 AM

I have been on a quest recently: to find my HG self-tanning product. Years ago, it was a self-tanning spray from Chanel which was sadly discontinued. Since then, I've tried many products with mixed results. After seeing glowing reviews on Youtube for this product and QVC, I had to try it. Prior to application I exfoliated with St. Ives Apricot Scrub and applied moisturizer to spots that absorb too much product. I used the self-tanning mitt but I wore latex gloves underneath, just to make sure I avoided the dreaded "orange palm." Application was easy, though I needed more product than recommended on the St. Tropez website (2 pumps per arm wasn't enough), Because it's a mousse, the product dried quickly. I detected NO ODOR! The color that's developed is a believable bronze. No streaks or over-done areas! Even my husband, who usually snickers when I fake bake, commented on how nice my "tan" looks. I just ordered a second bottle from the Q because I know I will be using this all summer.

Treatments -Paula's Choice - RESIST Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum
rated 5 of 5
bassetmomma 4/19/2013 7:01:00 PM

This product reminds me a lot of Dr. Denese's Hydroshield Serum. Unfortunately, the price tag on Dr. D's serum was just too much for me. I am glad I stumbled upon Paula's serum. It's a silicone-based serum that glides over the skin, moisturizes and is fortified with retinol. I've received a lot of compliments on my skin lately, and I definitely think this product is one of the reasons why. Highly recommend if you are looking for a moisturizing, retinol product.

Lip Gloss -Revlon - Super Lustrous in Pink Pop
rated 4 of 5
bassetmomma 4/19/2013 6:54:00 PM

I stayed away from "Pink Pop" for a couple of reasons. In the tube, it resembled Pepto Bismol, bringing back memories of childhood illnesses. Second, I've tried other Super Lustrous glosses from Revlon and while I love the packaging and doe-foot applicator, I wasn't wowed by any of the colors. "Pink Pop" is the exception. I like this medium pink shade. It has opacity. It's certainly brighter and bolder than my typical pink shade, but looks great when I'm wearing bright pink tops and jackets. I do wish this gloss, along with just about anyone I've ever tried, would last longer but that's not the case.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast Clump Crusher mascara
rated 4 of 5
bassetmomma 3/30/2013 7:19:00 PM

I've tried all the "Blast" mascaras from Cover Girl. It seems they have a new "blast" every other month, trying to capitalize I guess on their winning formula. I was disappointed in the original "Lash Blast." I just didn't get the hype. Nothing special in my mascara playbook. I tried "Clump Crusher" in part due to high praise here on MUA. I am glad I did. If you are looking for a mascara that will lengthen, lift, and define - you've found it. My other drugstore favorite, "Maybelline Define a Lash," also excels in these areas, but I think the "Crusher' trumps Maybelline due to its brush. Short bristles allow you to reach those short lashes near the inner eye. The brush is truly unique and puts this one over the top. I really like how the formula keeps my lashes from flopping. If you like the flared lash look, I think you will like this one.

Mascara -Maybelline - Define A Lash
rated 4 of 5
bassetmomma 3/8/2013 6:56:00 PM

This mascara excels at vertical lift. My lashes tend to flop. We're talking horizontal lashes, even though I use an excellent eyelash curler. If your lashes need Viagara likemine do, this is an option you should check out. It's not much for volume but it does a superior job with length, definition, and that "flared" look. I do wish the wand wasn't so soft and bendable. Beyond that, it's a great, cheap drugstore option for long lashes.

Liquid -Lancome - Teint Idole Ultra 24h
rated 3 of 5
bassetmomma 3/8/2013 6:49:00 PM

If you are looking for a full coverage foundation, this is definitely one to try. Using this product, all of the acne scars on my cheek vanished. My skin truly looked flawless without the use of any concealer. Sadly, the shade I chose, Ivoire C, was too pink. In addition, this foundation didn't feel comfortable. I was very aware of the product on my face - a tight, uncomfortable feeling that got worse as the day went on. If you can find a shade that works for you and your skin takes to this product better than mine did, you will be pleased if full coverage is your aim.

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorburst Lip Butter - 080 Strawberry Shortcake
rated 3 of 5
bassetmomma 3/8/2013 6:43:00 PM

If you look good in a cool-toned pinks, this might be one to try. Moisturizing. Not my cup of tea - desperately seeking a light, neutral toned pink in this line. If you own "Cupcake", then this shade is redundant.

Liquid -Tarte - Maracuja Miracle 12-Hour Foundation- Medium
rated 5 of 5
bassetmomma 3/8/2013 6:39:00 PM

After a series of foundation disappointments (the latest, Lancome Teint Idole), I am very pleased with this purchase. I chose "Fair", which is great neutral shade for my pale complexion. Not yellow or pink. Coverage is excellent - medium to full. Doesn't look cakey to mask-like. Blends easily. Feels good on my skin. Not drying or oily feeling. Love the pump bottle and the SPF 15 protection.
