Lip Gloss -Cover Girl - Natureluxe lip balm Hibiscus

On me, this color is a mauvey purple and is really unflattering with my light olive complexion and blonde hair. It seemed to make me look sallow. Also, something about the formula really dried out my lips and made them look kind of old and shriveled. I threw it out!

Liquid -Laura Mercier - moisturizing foundation
rated 5 of 5
avalon 11/5/2010 11:17:00 PM

This is a really good foundation, one of the best I've tried. After months and months of looking for the perfect one, I still haven't found HG, but this comes the closest of all the ones I've tried. Goes on very smoothly and is easy to blend...it's more of a liquidy foundation as opposed to a rich, creamy one. Color range verges on the yellow side, which I wish were more neutral but I can handle that. It gives a wonderfully even and dewy look and instantly makes me look more awake and vibrant. And it doesn't make me break out or make my skin feel dry, tight or oily. I'd say the coverage is somewhere between light and medium. Really nice formula.

Fragrances -Comptoir Sud Pacifique - Aqua Motu

This stinks! Didn't give me a headache, but definitely made me feel nauseated. In all, an unpleasant experience to wear. There is an almost licorice note in this fragrance that is strongly chemical and almost medicinal. I was expecting a lot from this. I imagined it would be tropical and uplifting, so I was extremely disappointed in this.

Cleansers -Olay - Age Defying Daily Renewal Cleanser
rated 1 of 5
avalon 5/23/2010 11:42:00 PM

I don't know why I bother with Olay products anymore. I've never found one that didn't break me out or do something equally horrendous to my skin. This one is just as terrible as every other Olay product I've tried....it's a creamy, heavy lotiony cleanser with "exfoliating beads" that feel kind of gritty and like they'd get in your eyes. Bottom line for me is that it didn't clean my face very well and broke me out something fierce. Returned.

Pressed Powders -Maybelline - Dream Matte Pressed Powder
rated 5 of 5
avalon 5/23/2010 11:35:00 PM

This is a good basic pressed powder. I usually apply this with a powder brush instead of the puff thing it comes with. Helps keep my face looking more polished and matte. Doesn't do anything wonderful, but for a basic powder that won't break you out or break the bank, this is great.

Liquid -Revlon - PhotoReady Makeup
rated 2 of 5
avalon 5/20/2010 9:13:00 AM

The best thing about this foundation is the sanitary pump bottle. Other than that, this looked horrible on me. It went on too sheer and disappeared after an hour to leave little white shimmer particles all over my face, almost like sunscreen residue. Did not cover anything, could not get a color match. Made me look tired and old.

Liquid -Bobbi Brown - Skin Foundation SPF 15
rated 2 of 5
avalon 5/17/2010 12:04:00 PM

Unfortunately this product made me break out in cyst-like pimples two days after first using it. A shame, because I loved the cool liquidy consistency and the color match was was PERFECT. But it's oily-feeling and not only made me break out, but made my skin blotchy and red. Back it goes.

Skincare - Body -Nivea - Smooth Sensation Body Oil
rated 1 of 5
avalon 4/15/2010 5:09:00 PM

This is a crap product. Doesn't really moisturize and the avocado oil is way down on the list. Mostly mineral oil. It's greasy but within 30 minutes my skin is parched again. In fact, it might be drier AFTER using it than before. I chucked it in the trash after buying it at the grocery in the discontinued bin. No wonder they're getting rid of it.

Conditioner -Terax - Crema
rated 5 of 5
avalon 1/10/2010 10:35:00 AM

I'm giving this 5 stars because it is PERFECT for my hair. I have babyfine hair that tangles easily and lacks body. This conditioner not only detangles and moisturizes my hair but somehow adds the most incredible body and shine. I hate that it's so expensive, but I can see myself buying this over and over, because no other conditioner makes my hair feel this way. I can't see how drier, thicker hair types could use this, though. It's moisturizing, but not amazingly so and I think this product is more suited to fine/normal hair types. I was hesitant to try this because of the price but I am so glad I did. It's really a one of a kind product.

Eye Makeup Remover -Almay - Non-Oily Eye Makeup Remover Pads
rated 1 of 5
avalon 12/13/2009 12:23:00 AM

This is a great concept, and you'd think it would be a very convenient product. (Eyemakeup remover already on the pad! Save yourself an extra step!) The problem is that the formulation just doesn't work. Upon opening the jar, you get a very strong whiff of what smells like nail polish remover, or alcohol. At any rate, it's very strong smelling. The pads are super thin, so it's not easy to just take one pad out at a time. But best to hold on to any extras you might pull out...you'll need them for later. In fact, it took me approximately three pads PER EYE to get 75% of my eye makeup off. That was with pulling, rubbing and generally irritating the eye area, mind you. And the next morning I had loads of mascara under my eyes like a raccoon. For a long time I thought this was the best remover on the market because some people just love this stuff, so I dutifully stuck with it. Then I heard about Rimmel eye makeup remover, and while not perfect, it beats the Almay hands down. I promptly threw the rest of my Almay jar away. I'd probably have had better luck not using any eye makeup remover at all. At least I wouldn't have irritated my delicate eye area trying to make the Almay work!

Skincare - Face -MD Forte - Facial Lotion I
rated 3 of 5
avalon 11/3/2009 9:42:00 AM

I can't decide if this product is doing anything or not...my guess would be no. It stings a little upon application, so you kind of think it's going to be this wonderful treatment that will really, really exfoliate. But on me, it seems as if it's not doing a darn thing. I haven't seen any negative results from using this, but not much in the way of anything good either. It *might* prevent breakouts a little, but by no means is it giving me a glow or making my skin look more refined, which is why I bought this product in the first place. I've been using it for over a month, so I think I've given it a fair chance. Maybe I just need to step it up to Lotion II, who knows?

Tinted Moisturizer -Tarte - Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Mosturizer (Smooth Operator)
rated 3 of 5
avalon 10/25/2009 12:19:00 AM

I love the packaging. I love the smooth creaminess and the way it spreads onto the skin so easily. I love that it has all these vitamins and great things inside it. What I don't love is the color selection, which is incredibly lame. I tried Veil, which is the only one I thought would remotely work for my skin. Only thing was, it didn't...not in the least. I felt like I had a yellow film all over my face. Most unflattering. To say this foundation has yellow undertones is the understatement of the world. I wish they'd come out with more neutral colors and I would be a big fan of this stuff.

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Fresh Foaming Cleanser
rated 3 of 5
avalon 10/25/2009

First off, this does not make me break out, and I am very breakout prone. So this gets three stars just for that fact. But this cleanser is lacking in many other ways. As others have mentioned, it smells like harsh dishwashing liquid, and feels like it going on as well. I find it strange that it touts itself as a makeup remover and cleanser in one...this really does not remove makeup well at all. I find that I have to wash twice to get all the makeup off, and have to use a lot of product with each washing just to get it to foam. What an inelegant formulation. I definitely did not feel either refreshed or pampered using this, and I might as well have used the Joy from my kitchen sink to cleanse with.

Cleansers -Aveeno - Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser
rated 4 of 5
avalon 4/8/2009 10:27:00 AM

I love this cleanser. It really does seem to cut down on the redness and give my face a more radiant look. It's not drying at all, and I love the foam, because it makes me feel like I am truly getting all the makeup and dirt off, which I am. Doesn't get eye makeup off all that well, but I don't consider that to be a huge problem. In all, a winner! I would recommend this to all skin types.

Moisturizers -La Mer - Creme de la mer moisturizer
rated 3 of 5
avalon 2/28/2009 10:58:00 AM

I am not that impressed with this one. As we all know, La Mer is extremely expensive, and I don't think you're really getting your money's worth with this. It's an ordinary moisturizer, and very thick. I haven't noticed anything in the way of super moisturization, much less reduction of any kind of fine lines that I have. I don't believe the spiel about warming it up between your fingers before applying. I think that makes you WASTE more product, as when I did this most of the creme ended up underneath my fingernails. Thank goodness I had a sample of this. I know now I'd never want to purchase.
