BB Cream -Maybelline - Dream Fresh 8-in-1 BB Cream

I love this stuff. It smooths out my skin tone but lets enough of my natural variations show through that it doesn't look fake or overly made up. In fact, it really doesn't look like I'm wearing makeup at all--just looks like I have better skin than I actually do. I dot on concealer for any blemishes. I can see how for people who are used to wearing foundation, it might not provide enough coverage, but for my purposes it works great. Also, it doesn't break me out (a miracle), and I've had no problems with the color changing throughout the day. Will definitely repurchase.

I used this twice a day for 6 weeks and saw no effects whatsoever. No improvements, no "purging," nothing. Sorry I wasted my money.

I tried this for my hormonal breakouts. I'd been taking 1 pill (400 mg) a day for about 3 weeks when I hit my usual breakout time of month, and holy cow, it was almost twice as bad as usual. I've read that people get different results from this product depending on their hormone levels, so apparently it tipped mine in the wrong direction.

Styling Products -Garnier - Pure Clean Smoothing Cream

This is hands down the best smoothing cream I've found for my fine, thin, flyaway hair. I found it didn't do much when I put it on dry hair, but when i comb it through before blow drying, it leaves my hair silky and smooth, without weighing it down at all. I use the equivalent of about 2 peas worth on my chin-length hair. I found that if I put too much in, it makes my hair look a little greasy, but that disappeared after about half an hour. It works great with flat irons and curling irons too. HG for me!

Wow. The day after I used this, I woke up with 5 (count em, 5) cystic pimples, followed by two more over the next two days. I have dry skin that is used to rich moisturizing creams, so I don't think it was too much moisture, just a reaction to something in the formula. Glad I was just using a sample and didn't purchase a full size container. Won't repurchase, obviously.

Styling Products -Dr. Bronner's - Magic All-One! Organic Fair Trade Hair Creme
rated 4 of 5
aporia 12/1/2010 12:56:00 AM

I've found this product works really well for one specific purpose. After I blow dry, I use a large curling iron to flip out the ends. If I put a tiny bit of this styling lotion on the ends before applying the iron, it helps keep the ends looking textured and not flyaway, holds the curl pretty well, and doesn't get stringy, greasy, or weighed down throughout the day, like every other styling product I've tried. My hair even still has body and shape the next day. I'm on my second bottle, and I'll repurchase. However, I haven't been able to make it work using any other method. It's horrible as a texturizer without heat styling, and if I put it on without blowdrying, my hair becomes a greasy, stringy mess. But for use with the iron, it's perfect. I like the smell too---I use the peppermint. UPDATE 6/13: I recently went back to this product and I like it better than I did the first time. I started using Nioxin, which gives body to my fine, thin hair, but also makes it fluffy and flyway. I use a pea- or dime- sized amount of the Dr. Bronner's cream before blowdrying, and it makes my hair smooth, almost glossy. Plus the peppermint smell works well with the minty Nioxin smell.

I wasn't very impressed with this conditioner. It made my hair fluffy and flyaway--I was hoping for silky and smooth.

Conditioner -Shi Kai - Color Reflect Mist and Go Conditioner
rated 2 of 5

This stuff makes my hair look smooth and shiny--for about 20 minutes. After that, my (fine, wavy) hair is just as flyaway as always. I tried using more, using less, using it on wet hair, using it on dry hair, using before heat styling, using after heat styling, but all with the same unimpressive results. It just doesn't do much!

Ugh--this stuff is awful. The bristles on the brush are too far apart and so it made my lashes clumpy.

Styling Products -Neutrogena - Triple Moisture Smooth Shine Anti-Frizz Cream
rated 5 of 5
aporia 8/3/2007 9:57:00 AM

I love this stuff! I have shoulder-length, fine, thin, slightly wavy hair that wants to get fluffy and flyaway at the slightest excuse. If I put a dollop of this anti-frizz cream on my hair I can let it dry naturally without looking like a fuzzy mess. If I put it on before blowdrying, it doesn't seem to make much difference, but if I put it on once my hair is dry, it has a nice, calming effect. All without weighing my hair down or making it look stringy.

Sunscreen -La Roche Posay - Anthelios XL 50 Creme Fondante PPD 25
rated 5 of 5
aporia 8/3/2007 9:09:00 AM

This is it! I thought that the Dermo-Pediatrics was my favorite La Roche Posay sunscreen, but the Creme Fondante is less shiny, even in humid weather. It does have a slight white cast, but for me that works fine because it helps even out my skin tone. I let it sink in for 10 minutes or so, and then dust on some Aromaleigh Glissade makeup (which supposedly doesn't destabilize avobenzone) and I have a nice, glowy finish. It would probably make me break out if I wore it all day, every day, but for a few hours at a time it doesn't cause any problems. Of course, it's about twice as expensive as the other high ppd La Roche Posays, so I'll only be using it on my face, but it's really the best sunscreen I've tried.

Sunscreen -Neutrogena - Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 55
rated 3 of 5
aporia 5/30/2006 11:38:00 AM

I liked this sunscreen at first because it was stable, non-greasy, and didn't cause breakouts. However, when I wore it in humid weather and sweated, it ran down in little white rivulets on my face--embarrassing and unattractive! Also, it's very difficult to blend in a second application without making white blotches all over. I've moved onto La Roche Posay now, and won't be buying this again.

Treatments -Avene - Diacneal Acne Treatment [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
aporia 5/30/2006 10:37:00 AM

I've been using this product for 5 months now, and am still on the fence about its effectiveness. It definitely hasn't done anything to cure or prevent the hormonal breakouts around my mouth area, the regular mild breakouts on my forehead, or the blackheads on my nose. (Nor did I experience any purging.) However, I do think it helps with acne scars--mine are by no means gone, but they're fading a little more quickly than they would on their own. On the other hand any good AHA product will help with that. I think it might be doing something to help the fine lines around my eyes, too, but it's so hard to tell. I might consider buying it again if I could get a good deal on it, since I've read that retinaldehyde helps with aging, but for acne this product just doesn't seem to do much of anything.

Liquid -Cover Girl - CG Smoothers All Day Hydrating Makeup
rated 4 of 5
aporia 5/26/2006 9:46:00 AM

I love this stuff--the Classic Ivory matches my skin tone exactly, and it's light and easy to blend. I would say it has medium coverage--probably wouldn't be good if you had a lot of blemishes to cover, but it's really good for evening out my skin tone and camoflauging old acne scars.
