Blush -L'Oreal - Blush Minerals #70
rated 2 of 5
annos 4/24/2010 1:04:00 PM

I wanted to get a more peachy coral blush and this seemed like a nice shade. Once applied it turns out, although pretty buildable, it's a tad bit too dark for my pale skin. The biggest issues I have with this though is the packaging. The brush that comes integrated in the container is too small and basically useless, the opening is too narrow for my ordinary blush brush and I constantly end up getting way more product then I really need.

Liquid -Maybelline - Pure Mineral Liquid Foundation
rated 2 of 5
annos 4/24/2010 1:00:00 PM

This foundation does seem to have a lot going for it - liquid mineral makeup with spf in a hygienic glass bottle with pump. It's runny and easy to use, light to medium coverage and some nice color matches for my pale skin. When I first apply this I always sense that it stays on top of my skin for quite some time, thus looking rather heavy, after a while it creates a natural look, not very matte but sans annoying glitter or sparkle. Taking one off because it doesn't combat my oily t-zone very well and I end up with a greasy mess after just a few hours.

Treatments -Neutrogena - Visibly Clear Rapid Clear Treatment with MicroClear
rated 3 of 5

I don't get spots very often and when I get them they are usually small and easy to deal with. So I don't want to spend tons of money on clearing products but aim for cheaper solutions with antiseptic properties. There are quite a few of them out there and they seem to be pretty similar. Rapid Clear Treatment is a clear gel that locally treats the breakout and makes it heal quicker. It dries quite quick but I only use this at nighttime so I don't know how it would work for example under foundation. It does seem to make speed up the process of killing spots, but it's not dramatic. Give it a few days and it will dry 'em out but it's no miracle product. Doesn't dry out skin though which is a big plus.

Moisturizers -Nuxe - Creme Fraiche de Beaute Light
rated 3 of 5
annos 10/17/2009 11:10:00 AM

I bought this when I needed a light, basic moisturizer that didn't make my combo skin shiny and oily but wouldn't dry it out either. The creme comes in a hygenic tube and has runny texture. Sinks in to skin quickly and doesn't leave a film on my face. The scent is a quite strong herbal, "green", one that might annoy people who are sensitive to fragrances, but it's not overwhelming and very fresh. This really does what it promises to do - give skin moisture without making it oily. I've never noticed any mattifying effect though. I took one lippie off because there's no SPF and because it doesn't feel like it boosts and/or makes skin matte. A bit too basic for it's price.

Makeup Brushes -Clinique - Foundation Brush
rated 4 of 5

This is the first time I've bought a brush for appying foundation. I didn't see the point before but one of my friends (who always has flawless skin) convinced me that a good foundation brush is the secret. This is a flat brush that I use for applyin any liquid foundation. It does take a little more work then dabbing it on with your fingers or a sponge and you have to be careful with the hard to reach areas like the wings of the nose. But once you get the hang of it it's really the most even, beautifully blended application you could ever imagine. Since I've never owned a foundation brush before I don't have much to compare with but this seems to be of good quailty judging by the feel of using it and the fact that it hasn't lost one single bristle yet.

Eye Shadow -Christian Dior - 5 Colour Eyeshadow - Incognito 030
rated 3 of 5
annos 9/20/2009 12:45:00 PM

I was looking for a nice everyday wear palette when this caught my eye. Five matte shadows ranging from eggshell white to nude to greige. It does look tempting in the package, like a perfect can do no wrong combo. Sadly, when applied these colors tend to look pretty dull. I don't know if it's the complete lack of any iridescence or even the subtlest of shine but it just does not make anything pop, rather, it makes me look tired. Now it's not all lost because the quality is good and long lasting and the lighter shadows make excellent base colors. Still not quite what I expected and I'll keep looking for the perfect everyday brown eyeshadow palette.

Pressed Powders -Estee Lauder - AeroMatte Ultralucent Pressed Powder
rated 4 of 5
annos 9/5/2009 3:33:00 PM

I bought this in my quest to find my HG pressed powder after hearing good things about it. I prefer using loose powder when I do my makup but want a good mattifying pressed one for my combo skin to combat shine and touch up thoughout the day. What I'm looking for is basically I powder that looks like I have nothing one while it keeps my face shine-free and fabulous. This is pretty good at both - looks natural, combats shine, at least for a while. It's still one of the best powders I've found but probably not the one I'm (still) looking for. Now if only Estee Lauder would stop making compacts that look like something I stole from my grandmother (in a bad way) I'd be a happy girl.

Masks -Origins - Out of Trouble
rated 2 of 5
annos 9/5/2009 3:24:00 PM

This is a pretty average clay mask containing Zinc Oxide and Sulfur as well as Salicylic Acid. I'd say, judging by the scent and the tingle you get when you apply it that there's some menthol in it as well. I have combo skin so I thought this would be good to keep the oilier areas in check. So far I must say that it hasn't kept it's promise. I'm used to clay masks and this is no different from a lot of much cheaper versions I've tried. You put it on, it dries, it's a bit uncofortable, it's a pain washing off, you're a little red afterwards and maybe, just maybe, your skin stays matte for a while, but hey, who cares when the only time you have time to put on a mask is in the evening right before going to bed? As for long term benefits I'd say I've noticed just about none. BUT I don't have much breakouts or troubles with zits and acne which is supposed to be the real purpose of this mask. And judging from other reviews here it does have an effect so I wouldn't completely rule it out as an option for oilier skins.

Lotions/ Creams -Korres - Body Butter - Guava
rated 4 of 5
annos 9/5/2009 3:19:00 PM

I wasn't too sure about this scent at first, fruity but sweet, but after using this for a while it really grew on me. It never gets overwhelming but fades into something a bit more sophisticated. Taking one lippie of for the scent though since it's a bit too sweet for me still. The butter itself is a bit lighter then for example the TBS bodybutters that I usually buy. It's not something negative since this sinks in to skin easier and doesn't leave a greasy film afterwards. The lighter formula also allows it to be in a hygenic tube instead of a tub. Very moisturizing. I have no complaints.

Moisturizers -Korres - Wild Rose 24-Hour Cream
rated 4 of 5
annos 9/5/2009 3:14:00 PM

I got this as part of the Korres Party Survival Kit - love those clever kits of theirs, allows you to try their products without splurging out on the full sizes. This is a moisturizing cream with SPF6 for normal to dry skin. I have combo skin and I often found creams made for drier skin types to be too heavy for me but to my surprise this one worked quite well. The first thing you notice about this cream is the very pleasant rose scent, very comfortable. It goes in to my skin well and doesn't leave a film, very moisturizing without ever making my skin oily. After a few days I even noticed this giving my skin a glowy look, not shine in any way, just throughly moisturized and healthy. The SPF is a bit too low to be of any use but I could definitely use this for wintertime when my skin tend to be a bit more dry as well.

Moisturizers -Vichy - Normaderm Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care
rated 2 of 5
annos 9/1/2009 12:49:00 PM

I've had no luck with the Normaderm series so far. This is a light day cream in a hygenic pump container that has a strong cucumber/alcohol scent. Don't mind that too much since it's pretty fresh. So far so good. Sadly the good for my combo skin ends there. It's neither moisturizing enough for my drier areas (to some extent even irritating my skin) and not mattifying enough for my oilier areas. My skin is not very acne prone so I can't judge if it has any effect on clearing up skin but I could imagine this being better for teens with breakout tendencies.

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Mascara
rated 2 of 5
annos 9/1/2009 12:45:00 PM

I had high hopes for this mascara hoping it would be perfect for creating pitch black va va woom lashes. So in a way I shouldn't be dissapointed because it really does. You get thick, long false-lash effect lashes. Sadly, there are so many things that annoy me with this I would never considering buying it again. One: The brush is super clumpsy which makes it very difficult to apply without creating a mess. Two: Lasting power is so so, I had small flakes under my eyes at the end of the day. Not ok for such a high end product. Three: It's EXTREMELY difficult to remove in the evening, worst I've ever had. You rub and rub and use a remover that's been excellent with every other mascara I've tried without success. So more no no's then yes yes yes:es from me.

Cleansers -Vichy - Normaderm Deep Cleansing Gel
rated 2 of 5
annos 12/25/2008 9:15:00 AM

I've been using the Normaderm series for about a month and I haven't noticed any change in either pore size or imperfections so that's a bit of a dissapointment. The cleansing gel itself is green, lathers a little and has a nice "clean" scent. Does dry my combo skin out a bit and is worthless when it comes to eye makeup removal (yes, I'm lazy, I like all in one cleansers). Overall I'd say that it's a pretty average cleanser, nothing spectacular. Does clean skin but has no other effect what so ever, even combined with the rest of the series.

Toners -Vichy - Normaderm Purifying Astringent Toner
rated 2 of 5
annos 12/25/2008 9:13:00 AM

I've been using the Normaderm series for about a month and I haven't noticed any change in either pore size or imperfections so that's a bit of a dissapointment. This toner reminds me of Clinique's since it mostly cointains alcohol. Does dry skin out but since I have combo skin I prefer this toner to many others that doesn't mattify my skin at all.

Treatments -Vichy - Normaderm Night Chrono-Action Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care
rated 3 of 5
annos 12/25/2008 9:11:00 AM

This is a thick white cream that dissapears into skin quickly. After using this my combo skin is less oily in the morning but it doesn't provide enough moisture to the drier areas of my face. I haven't noticed any change in pore size or imperfections after using the whole Normaderm series for about a month, so the results are not that impressive for me. Still this is a good night cream for anyone with oily skin since it's a lot less rich than your avarage nighttime moisturizer.
