Lip Treatments -Cover FX - MintGlaze FX
rated 2 of 5
angel_cosmos 8/15/2010 4:24:00 AM

I've been a long time user of Cover FX products and was surprised they had phased out their Lip FX/gloss for this MintGlaze. Personally, it was a big mistake. It seems to me that they the LipFX primer (white) has been transformed from solid to liquid-goo and packaged into a bottle. I found it to be too sticky and with dry-chapped lips it did not moisturize my lips, instead it enhanced my chappy lips. In addition, with the peppermint though it smells nice it stung my lips.

For the price of $22 CDN I would not buy this again since it does not last as long as their LipFX. The thin brush and packaging was the most disappointing part because at the bottom of the bottle, the brush cannot reach it. I can't even use a q-tip to try and reach in because of the narrowness of the bottle.

If you have a chance to find their LipFX, stock up on it (I found mine off at http://hautelook.com in winter 2010)!

Polishes -Anna Sui - Nail Polishes
rated 4 of 5

Overall Rating

When the nail polish dries, it smells like roses. I kept smelling my nails throughout the week because it was yummy. hahah

Price

$14 cdn + 13% tax for each nail polish at Sears. I bought two - a green and sparkly gold one. I tested one colour with OPI primer and sealer and the other without. Green was used w/o OPI products and within 5 days, the colour started to fade and chip. At least it last longer than Sally Hansen nail polish, in my experienced, it fades/chip after day 2. The gold one was recommended by the sales lady. She said it's great for a dark colour contrast like black base and gold sparkles. I was a sucker and bought it. I use OPI's blue nail polish and Sui's sparkles definitely makes it extra pretty. Used the OPI's top coat and have had the nail polish on for about 1.5 months. It's chips but at the gold sparkles are still there. ^_^

Packaging Quality

It's very cutely packaged having the rose at the top. BUT I have one of the Japanese nail polish/makeup organizers and the bottle is a bit too large to fit into the slot. It's very frustrating for me because all my nail polish fits perfectly into it except Sui - it's like popping out of the slot. *grr* lol

Re-purchase - no

My reasoning is only because without OPI's base and top coat, it wouldn't last very long. I would love to buy some more of Sui's sparkly nail polish but only if it was more affordable. Heck, it's pricier than OPI and the quality isn't that great. If it were to ever go on sale or was included as a gwp, I would definitely get it.

Cleansers -Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser
rated 2 of 5
angel_cosmos 3/24/2008 9:22:00 AM

Review

It's a very mild cleanser so it won't remove make up. Even if you use a towel and scrub your make up off, there is still some left on your face. I suppose it would work best for people with dry skin. I used this when I was on Accutane and it cleansed my skin without drying. However, now that I am off Accutane, my skin has become more oily so I no longer use this because it's not effective for me.

Price

Generally affordable but because I feel it doesn't really clean deep down to the pores, I'm not that satisfied. Look out for it to be on "sale" or purchase it at Shoppers Drug Mart when they have the min $50 cdn and get 20x points.

Packaging

There's one thing I like about this product, it comes in a pump. However, you need to pump it a few times to get an adequate amount to wash your face. I pump about 5x into my palm and spread it on my face. As you reach the bottom, the pump can't suck it up, so you will have to open the bottle and turn it upside down. A bit annoying but the price is okay.

Purchase Again?

For my oily/acne-prone + sensitive skin, I would not purchase it again. However, if my skin was to get more dry I would use it. Summers are too hot in Toronto, so my skin gets more oily. Winter time, it works for when my skin is really dry but it's not very moisturizing so I need to put some on.

I love this! A really tiny lil pea-size lathers into a thick foam for your face. ^_^ I have sensitive combo-acne prone (oily t-zone / dry cheeks) skin and do not break out! I bought this on sale and stocked up! Contact me as I'd be happy to share the love for $35 cdn (no tax).

Primer/ Corrector -Cover FX - Cover Fx Skin Prep Fx
rated 5 of 5
angel_cosmos 6/10/2007 3:50:00 AM

Cover FX Skin Prep FX I've been using this brand for a few years because of my skin condition and am happy they finally came out with a primer! With one full pump it covers the face. If I'm in a rush and wake up late, I usually blend this primer with Natural FX (water based) and use their foundation brush. I love their brushes and it's a good investment but I also find MAC brushes to be good too, they just have a lot of numbers so I'm confused. ^_^;

I sometimes use this also as a night moisturizer if I feel my skin is peeling and dehydrated.

Price

It's $45 cdn + 14% tax in Ontario v_y so it's expensive but I think it's a good investment. I bought this around Xmas and so I've had for 6 months. I'm almost finished my bottle so I'm waiting for Shoppers to have the 20x points so I can splurge and buy this again. ^_~

Packaging

It's made out of glass and so the bottle is heavy. Be careful not to drop it! I've never dropped it so I'm not sure how durable it would be if it did hit the ground. I wish the pump could be twisted so I could use my Cover FX brushes to reach into the corners and such. =P As you use it, the bottle raises a level to ensure there's no waste but it still makes me feel uncomfortable... I know there's still some left at the corner of the bottle... XP

Foundations -Cover FX - COVER FX
rated 5 of 5
angel_cosmos 9/30/2005 5:27:00 AM

General/Background of Cover FX:

To find more information about Cover FX please visit their site: Cover FX I am a fan of their products (it is quite expensive ranges in Clinique + prices imho)

First of all, the background of Cover FX was intended for people who have acne scars, age/liver spots, rosacea, birthmark, and etc. who are self-conscious about their imperfections. Can you imagine seeing someone with a birthmark on their face? =/ It must be horrible growing up and little kids coming up saying, "What's that on your face...? etc"

Their Cover FX (http://coverfx.com/products/coverfx.html) has 40+ shades for many skin tones and if you're like me, finding the perfect shade is hard! I was referred by my dermatologist to Sunnybrook Hospital Dermatology section (in Toronto) because I was very self-conscious with my skin's imperfections (acne scars). I was fortunate to have a dermatologist who actually knew about Cover FX and the people behind the products because I've been to other dermatologists and they would just prescribe vitamin a cream. Vitamin A cream does help after a month but what about "now" you know? ;_; I met Lee Graff and she was really nice, sensitive, and understood my problems. =^_^=

Which leads me to the point of this review =P :

Overall

For my problem areas it works great but make sure to use a Cleanser (I use Proactiv Cleanser) before applying as it can look cakey in certain areas. What I also find helps when applying this with their brushes *amazing* (I think they are like Bare Escentuals, but I do not own any but judging by the reviews and pics on the net, they are the same quality) I damp my face a little to blend it in with the brush. I like how it's easy to build-up (cover) the imperfections without looking cakey. I don't use the sponge because I find the brush is easier to apply and less harsh for my skin. I tried the sponge and my pores looked huge as it couldn't cover them.

This product is very condensed/solid as in, you don't need to scrap a lot of it to cover your face. It was just a little dab with the brush and apply to skin. I loved how it was very creamy and compared to Clinique, more "solid" base. Does that make sense to you ladies? ^_^;

Then I used their Setting FX powder which is really nice! Sometimes I would only use it as my foundation as I'm too lazy to put on the Cover FX. ^_^; I would really like to try their Powder (mineral) FX but right now I'm going to wait. I can't afford it. *sobs* The Setting FX really helps absorb the excess oil/shine as I do have an oily t-zone.

Price

It cost $40.25 CDN (with 15% tax *grr*) so it's expensive for me but definitely worth it! X_x I remember I bought Clinique's foundation and it cost about the same price but wasn't even close in covering up my imperfections.

Packaging

This is exactly like Mac's foundation except it's matte-silver! Cute magnifying mirror, foundation, and underneath the sponge. I wish they made a small foundation brush so I could replace the sponge. Very light-weight too!

I would probably buy this again but since this will go along way, I'm also thinking of getting the Powder FX...

Overall

I bought the Coral Chablis which is really pretty! The colour reminds me of Clinique's Air Kiss but without that sticky feeling or taste. Their are two lipsticks, one that's clear and minty (but doesn't burn your lips) used for dried lips or a primer =^_^=. The otherside has the colour. After 30 mins (for me) I do feel my lips have plumped up which is really cool since I've never tried this lip-enhancing lipsticks (they sound scammy to me). I rarely wear lipsticks/gloss unless you count Vaseline. lol

Price

I bought mine at Sunnybrooke's Prescription store as they have it in the front counter. They actually raised the price from $21.50 (CDN) to $23 (CDN) not including tax. With tax it would be $26.45 (CDN) which is expensive for a poor student like myself. BUT if you think of it as two lipglosses it's about $13.xx so that's what I keep telling myself. I do wish it was more affordable as it doesn't last that long if you use it twice or three times a day. I would say it lasts about 3 months tops?

I heard you can buy it at some Shoppers Drug Mart so I will see if any of my local ones has them. I live in the 905-area and we're surrounded by Shoppers but oddly enough, I still can't find them. I checked Cover FX's directory but the one that's closest is completely clueless for me! hahah I have no idea where that is. ^^;

Packaging Quality

I like the silver-matte piece as it's secure and seems to be made out of light metal. It's not like those plastic GWP lipsticks from Clinique/Lancome. However this does melt easily so be gentle when applying so it doesn't break off. My first one broke off in the summer time and I was mortified as I only had it for a week!!! ;_; I would recommend PUTTING THIS LIP FX IN YOUR FRIDGE so it's cool and won't break off that easily. ^_~

I would definitely buy this again. I hope to go back and buy Pearl Lily as it seems really pretty and sheer!

Skincare - Face -Pro Activ - Clarifying Night Cream
rated 4 of 5
angel_cosmos 9/3/2005 2:33:00 AM

Overall

I really loved this cream from Proactiv. I bought this off the shoppingchannel.com a year ago when it was a showstopper! At first it made by skin really oily when I would wake up so I started applying it every other night on my face and neck. It smells like apple which really made it yummy. Just make sure to keep it away from your eyes because it can make you cry. hahaha

I found using it on my neck really improved the look of the skin. I don't have eczema but just weird marks (dirt? o_0) which have always been there since I hit puberty.

Price

The pricing for Canada is $38 CDN (not including s&h) from shoppingchannel.com. To me, that's quite expensive but in 2-3 weeks (which is quite fast imho) the results were astounding. Usually if I don't see results after the third week, I lose interest in the product so I really liked how it improvied the "clarity" of my face and neck.

Packaging

The pump is okay I just wished the green texts on the bottle didn't smudge from my greasy hands (has the product). I really disliked how you cannot unscrew the pump so even if there was some left in the corners, you cannot reach down and grab the excess. v-v

Purchase again?

... I haven't re-purchased the item but if shoppingchannel ever has this on sale or as a showstopper bonus, I would definitely purchase it again. I tried bidding on ebay but it's really hard to get it for a decent deal (including s&h) and doing the conversations between USD to CDN.

If anyone has this unused and would like to sell it for an honest price, please contact me! I can pay by Paypal or by USD cash. ^_~
