I know if Paula Begoun read this, she would put her fist through a wall...but of all the facial cleansers I buy, I still can't find any that beats this cheap little unscented bar of soap! The only liquid cleanser I have found that would tempt me away from this, is Cetaphil, but I still actually prefer Dove, especially during summer. What I can't stand the most, is the shine my skin naturally has, even right after washing. But this is one of the only cleansers that leaves my face with a perfect matte finish! It keeps my oily t-zone in check, and keeps breakouts away. Just store it in a plastic travel soapdish, and it will last a really long time. Not that this is expensive for a facial cleanser, but if you wanna save some money, don't be afraid to try the "generic" versions, since they almost always have the same ingredients, but are cheaper!
Cleansers -Cetaphil - Daily Facial Cleanser (Normal to Oily Skin)
andieheartsmakeup 5/15/2013 2:43:00 PM
This is so much better than than Cetaphil's Gentle Skin cleanser, if you're a makeup wearer, or if you have combo oily to oily skin. This will remove every trace of makeup in a single wash, and doesn't have that irking slimy feeling that the gentle version does. If you find the Gentle version too mild, and the Daily version too drying, just do what I did...I mixed the Gentle version, 50/50 with the Normal to Oily version, and now I have 2 huge bottles of the PERFECT cleanser (it also helped tone down the fragrance). I actually don't find it drying, I only mixed the two just because I didn't want to waste my giant bottle of the Gentle version :-) For the amount you get, the price isn't bad, but I recommend not buying it from places like CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid etc, because they really mark up their products. This one is scented, which I actually prefer for facial cleansers, but this scent may turn some people off...it's like baby wipes and some kind of floral, and it IS strong! My only complaint is that every store has their own knockoff for the Gentle version, but I have yet to find one that offers a knockoff for the Normal to Oily Skin version, otherwise I would definately buy it and save myself a few bucks! Overall, this is great if you don't need/want acne medication in your cleanser, and want a deep clean without over-drying.
Lotions/ Creams -Curel - Curel Continous Comfort Lotion Fragrance Free
andieheartsmakeup 5/15/2013 1:11:00 PM
I bought this upon the recommendation of my tattoo artist who had just done a rather large back tattoo on me. Well, my tattoo healed up WAY better than my other two, which I did not use Curel for...but I found another great use for the product! I have never found a facial moisturizer I liked...mainly because I have a very oily t-zone, and they all have left me shinier. Amazingly, Curel soaks right in, and leaves me with the natural matte finish my skin has without any moisturizer. This makes it my new HG facial moisturizer! Also, this will be great all over the body for summer! So whether you just got a new tattoo, or are looking for a fragrance free, gentle facial moisturizer that won't leave you greasy, this product is your best bet!
I didn't even know they still made this until I stumbled upon it at the drugstore the other day (I purchased it in black)! I have to second what a previous reviewer wrote, this dries quickly, and really does last all day long, but is easy to remove with a basic eye makeup remover or regular face wash. I like the tiny brush, it makes it easy to get a thin, precise line, the formula doesn't smear or flake on me at all, and I have oilier eyelids. I usually use this to line my top lashline, and to create a wing sometimes, and it stays perfect looking until I wash it off. It also has good staying power on my waterline, and while it's not invincible on the waterline (no liner is) , at least it doesn't smear in the corners of my eyes like so many others do. The old school bottle is too cute! I would repurchase!
I have both the regular and waterproof in "Very Black", and they both give the same look after applied, the only difference is that the waterproof will hold up to extreme heat or swimming. I will say, that I have naturally thick, long lashes, so most mascaras end up looking the same on me. What makes me love Great Lash, is that it never clumps or makes my lashes brittle, and that it holds a curl wonderfully! I am lazy, so I am a one coat mascara kind of gal and both formula's give me a fanned lash look with a decent amount of both length and a little volume. It also tints my lashes a nice deep black. I very much appreciate the smaller wand and hate fat mascara wands (like CG Lashblast). So basically, this meets all my mascara needs, at a great pricepoint, and adorable packaging!
I thought Banana Boat's Summer Color smelled great, but this has that beat! This smells just like Olay's Foaming Cleanser....like fresh, clean laundry! I notice absolutely NO self-tanning smell, even hours later, so this is my favorite to use when self-tanning during the day. It blends well, dries fast, and I never get a blotchy or orange look. The only cons, are that I can't seem to get as dark as I do with Banana Boat's, and I can't use this on my face (breaks me out). I also love the pump packaging, which makes life a lot easier while you're applying all over the body. I will likely repurchase, due to the fact it's pretty error proof, and actually smells GOOD!
Concealers -Cover Girl - fresh complexion concealer
andieheartsmakeup 5/11/2013 10:26:00 AM
This is great for covering blemishes, and a lot better than CG's Invisible concealer which I had been using! It has just the right amount of coverage, and dries to a matte finish. It's also very creamy and buildable, but so much so that it's difficult to work with, in fact, it's the opposite. The blendability of this makes it ideal for covering blemishes without highlighting them or grabbing onto dry, flaky skin. Shades do run very light in this concealer, which is great news for the super fair. Also, this seems to perform well around the eyes, as far as not enhancing fine lines. One tube will likely last me forever, but I would repurchase!
Liquid -Cover Girl - CG Smoothers All Day Hydrating Makeup
andieheartsmakeup 5/11/2013 10:20:00 AM
This reminds me of CG's Clean Oil Control makeup in both coverage and finish (I use and love that one as well). It's actually not hydrating, it has a high Talc content and a somewhat matte finish, that's good for combo oily skinned gals like myself. LOVE the portable, squeeze tube packaging, which makes it not only good for traveling, but easy to get every last drop out. The shades seem to run a bit lighter in the Smoothers line, I am using Soft Honey, and am not really that tan (NC30ish), however it is a wonderful warm shade. I have realized that Covergirl is my favorite cosmetic brand, especially for foundations, and this one is fantastic if you like light coverage, and a natural look, but find tinted moisturizers too sheer and greasy. Would repurchase!
Blush -Cover Girl - Cheekers Blush in Pretty Peach
andieheartsmakeup 5/11/2013 10:14:00 AM
Very pretty light peach! This shade is so pretty on fair to medium skin, and yields a true peachy glow to the apples of cheeks. This looks really pretty paired with pale peachy or nude glosses. The formula is smooth, and lasts well, and this shade is pretty mistake proof for mornings when I'm short on time. It does have that CG Noxzema scent, but I happen to like the smell of Noxzema, so it doesn't bother me. Also, this blush has never broken me out, and I do tend to break out easily. I like the compact size, and cheap price, which works great for throwing it in my makeup bag in my purse.
I am soooo addicted to Carmex! I have loved this old school lip treatment for so many years! This moisturizes so well, and is one of the few lip balms that actually heals my non-stop dried out lips. I can't stand fruity flavored lip balms, they make me sick after awhile, but the clean minty/menthol scent this has, never bothers me...and I love how it tingles when you put it on! I have the jars, the squeeze tubes (original and cherry), but for some reason, I prefer it in the jar form (maybe because it's thicker???). I have never had a cold sore in my life, so I can't speak to how well it performs for that purpose, but for chapped lips, I highly recommend!
Toners -Unlisted Brand - sea breeze astringent - sensitive skin
andieheartsmakeup 5/10/2013 11:01:00 PM
I use this at night after cleansing, applied with a cotton ball, to help remove any traces of makeup that might be left behind. I also feel like it helps balance my combo/oily skin, so that I don't need moisturizer. I like that this doesn't have any Salicylic Acid in it, because my skin doesn't like that ingredient in "leave on" products (breaks me out). This is cheap, smells great, and uses natural oils like clove and eucalyptus to clean and fight against breakouts. In case you're wondering about "generics", which every store seems to sell these days, they are indeed exactly the same/just as good. I always buy the Family Dollar knockoff, because it's only $2, and has the exact same ingredients.
Loose Powders -Cover Girl - Professional Loose Powder
andieheartsmakeup 5/9/2013 2:58:00 PM
Favorite loose powder! I use this to set my oily t-zone area after I apply my CG Clean makeup. I love that it mattifies, but doesn't look powdery at all, it looks very natural. I actually use the puff that comes with it, because it's soft, and blends the powder well enough...it also helps keep the powder from spilling out of the holes when it's closed. I love the classic Noxzema scent, and the fact it comes in 5 shades, which should work for almost every skintone. I am self-tanning at the moment, and am using Translucent Medium, which is a great warm based shade, that is truly a medium shade (not orange). I use Clean or Smoothers powder for on the go touch-ups, but I love this for makeup setting. Would repurchase...if I ever run out!
This is a cleanser I have actually repurchased, which I rarely do with any beauty products (I get bored easily). Now I just buy the Walmart Equate or Family Dollar knockoffs of this, because it's identical and costs less. I love the light scent this has, the fact it removes every trace of makeup, leaves my skin totally clean but not overly dry and tight, and that it fights against breakouts. I also prefer pump cleansers (makes washing my face easier/quicker). Really, there is nothing bad I can say about it, except that dry skin-types will likely need to follow with a moisturizer.
Pressed Powders -Cover Girl - CG Smoothers Pressed Powder
andieheartsmakeup 5/8/2013 4:16:00 PM
I'm a huge fan of CG powders! My favorite was the now discontinued Clean Fragrance Free powder (the Sensitive version is totally different in formula). I also love the normal Noxzema scented "Clean" powder, but Smoothers seems to control oil better. Thank goodness CG left the packaging of this powder alone, it's slim, portable, and sturdy, versus the new "Clean" compacts, which are bulky and break within a week or two of use. This powder goes on lighter than it appears in the pan, so go by what the shade is called, not how it looks. This is one of the most natural looking powders I have ever found, yet it blots away oil and provides a matte finish that is very skin-like. The fragrance is very pleasant, however rather strong, so be aware of that if you are sensitive to fragrance in your cosmetics. Sheer, natural, never cakey, and helps keep oil in check. Great powder!
Moisturizers -Biore - Balancing Moisturizer (combination skin)
andieheartsmakeup 5/2/2013 10:46:00 AM
I still have 2 bottles left of this...HG of all time facial moisturizer, and I still mourn it's death from the Biore line! This smelled amazing, absorbed completely, helped control my oily-tzone, and came in the perfectly portable, small, locking pump, bottle. I have yet to find another moisturizer that compares to this, or that I like as much. I am hoping Biore comes out with something like this by the time I finish up the bottles I have left!
