Eye Shadow -Clinique - Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for eyes
rated 5 of 5
amy212 4/26/2013 11:42:00 PM

I am really glad I bought this chubby eyeshadow stick. I am huge fan of cream eye shadows, but I find that many times cream eye shadows make my eyes crepey and painfully dry. I have been currently using cream blush for this purpose with no ill effects, but I was looking for something new and different and I was drawn to these eye shadow sticks. I honestly did not have high hopes, but with a generous return policy at Sephora, I gave these Portly Plum a try and I am glad I did as this eyeshadow does not leave my eyelids dry at all and it very easy to apply. I simply rub the stick over a finger and rub where I want it to go, like in the crease. I do this as the color is actually a little dark and may be to intense just drawn on for my taste, but the application is simple and foolproof, I don't mind at all. The color is a lovely shade of plum as the name implies, great for warm skin tones, not cool, blue toned purple I was concerned about as different images of this shadow looked very different on different sites when I was looking at this product. I am totally going to try other colors as well. Time will tell if they crease, but as there is a fine tint over the lid, not a heavy amount of product I think the creasing, if at all will be minimal and nothing a sweep of a pinky can't fix. I am excited to say that Portly Plum gives my light warm toned skin and dark blue eyes a "your lids but better" look that is naturally dramatic if this makes sense. It is perfect, and I hope I stay in love with this eyeshadow for a very long time.

Foundations -Cover Girl - Covergirl and Olay Tone Rehab 2 in 1 Foundation
rated 5 of 5
amy212 3/11/2013 12:43:00 PM

Let me first say that I bought this foundation on a whim. It was new, BOBO and I in general really like Cover girl foundations. I barely tested this product when I got home, it seemed nice as I tossed it in my makeup draw not to be seen for a few months. I typically was using a cream foundation by Maybelline, it has great finish, but was a tad to orange and dark, just enough to have to skimp on coverage as to not look off in color, plus I found it transparent over spots in certain light. I then began using Revlon Colorstay for dry skin as I also thought the Maybelline may be transferring off my face, another reason it lacked coverage towards the afternoon. Revlon Colorstay makes me look like I am wearing natural looking makeup, but still with makeup on. Not an issue in a professional setting, but as a mom picking up from preschool, most other moms don't need to wear foundation as I do to cover spots and I felt made-up, however nice and natural the look was. This foundation is also labor intensive, dries very fast and stains my sponge and brushes to the point that properly washing them is a real process. I was not truly happy with Colorstay on the days that full coverage was not needed, so based on the reviews I dug out Olay Tone Rehab out and gave it a try. This is a excellent foundation as it gives coverage without fading and very little, much less than a full pump is needed to cover my face. The color, Classic Ivory is very nice for my pale warm skin, leaving it like I have less imperfections yet without a made-up look. I also do not see issues with fading or transferring over time. In all fairness, my skin has gotten much better recently so my need for foundation is minimal, but this makes a lovely "real skin" product that I will continue to buy as the application is simple, leaving me with just enough coverage to feel confident without looking like I have makeup on my face.

Concealers -L'Oreal - True Match Super Blendable Crayon Concealer
rated 4 of 5
amy212 1/5/2013 1:56:00 AM

I was so very excited to see this new concealer crayon now available. I have had really good success with this type of concealer on the past but they are relatively hard to find. I really appreciate how all I need now is the thinest veil of foundation even on my chin, my worst break out zone as I can conceal spots with the touch of this concealer. The color fair/light is a great light warm color, not pink at all and matches my skin really well. The concealer does not seem to wipe off spots and looks fresh for quite a long time. Under the eyes is not perfection. It does a good job about not creasing or settling into fine lies which is great, but the coverage is not total, kind of an unfair test though as my circles are terrible and only get worse with age. I don't like however how the tip of the crayon broke off at first use, a major disappointment as there is no way to achieve the pointed tip for precision concealing, an issue that would happen with wear even without the breakage. You turn the bottom to get more product up top, not sharpen it with a chubby sharpener they way I though based on my experiences with other concealers. I may even try to sharpen the tip anyways - just the makeup part if it is possible because the tip is really helpful with spot concealing, but this will waste a lot of the product. I still give this concealer 4 stars because I can wear much less foundation now and even without the tip the concealer does a great job camouflaging ugly spots. I will continue to buy this concealer, but I am not married to this specific crayon. I will try others this style of concealer and I will probably settle on one that can be sharpened to a point, but until I find my HG crayon, I am happy to have found this one.

Misc Beauty Tools -Jane Iredale - Flocked Sponge
rated 5 of 5
amy212 12/30/2012 2:47:00 AM

THis is an incredible sponge, I am surprised I have not reviewed it yet. I bought this sponge years ago and it still looks new, no pilling or breaking down like other flocked sponged I have tried. When I wear liquid foundation I think this sponge applies it evenly and naturally without soaking up the makeup wasting it, I have had problems with stains on it from Revlon's Colorstay foundation, I assume because it is long wearing. I just watched a great youtube video about removing makeup stains from sponges and brushes using olive oil. I was afraid that I would never get the oil out of my sponge, but this did not happen. I actually filled up a dixi cup with oil just at the bottom and soaked my sponge for a few seconds, Then a squeeze released all the makeup that would not wash out, highly impressive!!! I washed my sponge with an olive oil soap that I typically use to wash brushes and sponges and it lathered even better than before, removing all the olive oil from the sponge. My sponge looks new again. I am so very excited about this, defiantly worth trying. I am convinced that this one sponge that I bought for $5.00 is the only sponge I will even need as it looks the same as the day I bought it years ago, but I would buy again if it was lost while traveling. I highly recommend.

Liquid -Revlon - ColorStay Makeup
rated 5 of 5
amy212 12/28/2012 1:28:00 AM

This review is for Colorstay normal/dry without the soft flex I typically love to buy cream foundations made for dry skin as they seem to apply easily. My skin is pretty good on the majority of my face and I can get away with a "good skin" foundation, using it to protect me from the elements, keeping it feeling less dry and chapped during the day, as well as evening out my skin tone. What I have noticed, however is that these foundations seem to wear off where I do need the coverage, specifically my chin and jaw bone area which is a completely different beast, broken out sometimes and always dealing with spots from previous spots. Finally after feeling like I had been let down by my foundation one too many times, I went looking for a long wearing liquid foundation. I typically don't like liquids in glass bottles as they seem really "makeup-y" and in general don't travel well and I am not thrilled with getting the foundation out of the bottle without the pump, but was willing to give one of these foundations a try. I chose Revlon Colorstay as it was formulated for normal/dry skin which I appreciated. It was also on sale and Rite Aid has a great, guilt free return policy. I must say that I am really impressed with the quality of this foundation. I have had problems in years past with the color selection of Revlon, but Buff is a great color for my pale warm skin tone, exactly the color I have learned to expect from the name Buff. I apply it to my wrist and then to my flocked Jane Iredale sponge (great sponge, I highly recommend) and tap the moist sponge all over my face for an even result. This gives me natural, sheer coverage all over, but I apply more over my chin area. It does last all day and does not seem to wipe off on my child from hugs and kisses. It is not a moist looking as other cream foundations I have used, but the finish is a glowy satin which looks natural and slightly dewy which I like and feared I would have to give up with a long wearing foundation. I do need to still wear concealer with this foundation, but the need it minimal and when combined with a concealer the coverage is natural but nearly 100% on old spots which was never the case with any other foundation I have tried. I would definably buy this foundation again if I even run out, hard to imagine as I use so little and the bottle is large, but day after day I am sure it will add up. Of course I would love to see a pump added to the bottle and it stains my makeup sponge which I am not found of, but it is a small price to pay for a foundation that wears well and gives great coverage. The only negative I can think of is that the application does take a good 5-10 minutes longer than a cream foundation for me, and the sponge needs to be washed right after use to try and avoid staining which is more time that I typically do not have in the morning. If my skin ever improved I may go back to a cream foundation, but until this happens I simply need the beautiful coverage and long wear of Colorstay.

Crème -Maybelline - Dream Smooth Mousse
rated 5 of 5
amy212 3/30/2012 4:09:00 AM

Edit: I have been using this foundation all the time now and I really like it. I am just finishing the pan, impressive for me to do so. I do think that the classic ivory #2 is just a tad dark and orange for me, but if I use it sparingly I don't think this is very noticeable, and the overall color makes me look healthy like I have gotten a bit of color, as I wear SPF every day. I honestly did not know how great this foundation was until I grabbed my Simply Ageless foundation on a whim and I noticed how dry and terrible my skin looked in the afternoon after applying in the morning. This does NOT happen with Dream Smooth Mouse! My skin stays moist and hydrated looking for many hours, even after taking a cat nap (on my back) for a few minutes in the afternoon. I took for granted how my skin looked in Dream Smooth Mouse! as this was simply my skin, but it is not, this is from the properties of the foundation. I will try the lighter color, classic ivory #1, but I hope it is not pink as many makeup brands have a cool shade first, than a warm shade second. I still say that it could give more coverage around the eyes, but my concealer looks much better over this foundation than any other dryer product that I don't really worry about this. I sincerely hope this product is never discontinued. If so I will be at such a huge loss, I do not know where I would turn for such natural, hydrating makeup. Having said this, if Maybelline changes their undertones to more yellow, I would be truly thrilled with this change. ----------------------------------------------------older review below----------------- I really like this foundation for light coverage for when my skin is behaving and I don't have a lot to cover. Even when this is the case I prefer to wear very natural looking foundation as my dry skin enjoys the feel of a silicon based foundation protecting my skin from the elements. This product is easy to apply lightly al over for a very natural look. I do not like this foundation when more coverage is needed as if I apply more makeup in a spot that needs help it builds up to look orange. Having said this, when my skin is behaving this is a foundation that I do gravitate towards. I like this as well as Cover Girl's Simply Ageless cream compact, which gives more coverage but can make my skin look to even-tones that more makeup like blush and eyes is needed to break up the mask look. This makeup is natural enough to show my skin through while covering minor issues like redness or faded spots that still exist, perfect for sumer days where I don't want to look like I am wearing a lot of makeup. I do wish, however, that it had more coverage under the eyes, a drawback that I am willing to live with, adding a concealer in this area.

Concealers -Maybelline - Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in Ivory
rated 5 of 5
amy212 3/22/2012 5:21:00 PM

This pen has surprisingly nice coverage! I was not expecting much as I got it as part of a BOGO event, but I really like it. I use it mainly on red spots or older brown spots. A simple touch is all it takes to reduce redness dramatically and I like that I don't have to blend after, maybe just a tap of a fingertip, but that is all. I like to wear little makeup sometimes and this allows me to spot correct, something that typically does not work for me at all.. Do be careful when turning the pen so too much does not come out. I look directly inside like is the barrel of a gun and turn the pen just until see the concealer and then stop, there will be more than enough product this way without too much mess. I will buy this product again, much better than the L'Oreal one that I tried after enjoying this.

Concealers -Maybelline - Fit Me

This concealer in "medium" is very orange, just like the foundation. It will is the right shade in terms of being dark/light but the orange color will not work for my skin. I may try this under my eyes where I have blue veins and bluish under eye circles, but probably not because my skin did not respond well at all to the foundation and I am afraid really, to use this foundation as well.

Liquid -Maybelline - Fit Me Foundation
rated 1 of 5
amy212 1/25/2011 8:56:00 PM

I really wanted to like this, but I need to stop buying Maybelline foundations. Years ago I was a perfect "nude" but they have since changed the colors and now I am closer to "classic ivory" but it is always on the verge of being orange. I had this same problem with this foundation. The big problem I have with this foundation is that it has a VERY heavy perfume to it which I greatly dislike, and after a few moments it made my face feel irritated, almost like a burning sensation. I have never taken off a foundation so fast! I am sensitive to soaps and skincare, but in general most foundations are fine for me, in terms of a burning feeling, so I was very surprised when this happened. I also did not see that if has a chemical SPF in it, the print was VERY small and I missed it completely, and I did look at the ingredients, Which is my fault because it is there if you look for it. I would never even try on a chemical sunscreen foundation because there is no change I would ever buy it, so I am sorry I waisted my time here.

Crème -L'Oreal - magic smooth souffle
rated 5 of 5
amy212 12/25/2010 2:54:00 PM

Update: I still love this foundation for spot correcting, as this covers old brown acne spots like nothing else, but I have not had great success recently for using this as a foundation on my entire face. I still find this HG worthy as I have never had good results before looking not made up when just trying to cover spots and wear no other makeup, and this does the trick. At the ned of the day though, in certain light I can see a hint of it on my skin, but still nearly perfect. I found out that my favorite tinted moisturizer is not discontinued so I am using this a the ultimate concealer and it is wonderful. My tm was never full coverage over spots but this combination makes me very happy. ------------------ This is my HG foundation!!! This is an edit from my previous post now that I have work this makeup for a while. Using a brush this makeup looks perfect, like skin that does not need makeup. My skin has improved a lot over the years so it may be a foundation for good skin, I don't know. My favorite tinted moisturizer has been discontinued and I don't even care as this is much better as it can be used just in spots and it looks like skin with no foundation. Before, I still saw dark marks from previous acne under my makeup but the finish was natural, Now I see nothing in the mirror as my face and skin become a non-isse with this makeup. It is perfect. ------------earlier post below--------- At first, I though this foundation was going back ASAP! The color, "nude beige" was dark and orange, and it baled up when I tried to apply. The good reviews here gave me pause, however and I did give it one more try, now using a foundation brush instead of a finger and I am glad I did! It now applies very lightly, hazing any imperfections I may have with my skin and looks very natural and without pores. It does highlight dry spots slightly which I don't like, but this is at a minimum, as is the light creasing under my eyes, something most foundation do to some degree on my skin. I do think it is problematic that the foundation inside the glass jar is darker that it what it looks like though the bottle, making selection difficult, but I did not notice this on my face when applied with a brush. I liked the short list of ingredients and the lack of SPF, I use a sunblock before applying and I am happy with the overall look and finish this gives my skin - very natural like I am wearing no makeup at all. The application with a brush is more time consuming but not difficult and I don't mind at all, now that I know how to use this foundation properly, thanks to the other reviews. I would buy this foundation again if I ever ran out.

Primer/ Corrector -Cover Girl - Simply Ageless Serum Primer
rated 1 of 5
amy212 8/21/2010 9:06:00 PM

I really like simply ageless foundation and wanted to try this. I did not like the way it smelled and did nothing for me skin. I applies it to the areas where I have some fine lines and then applied simply ageless foundation and after a few hours my foundation creased worse than without. This is going back and if I want to use a primer I will just use the anti-chaffing gel if I want to use a primer. I really like the simply ageless line, I use their foundation, concealer and blush but this was not a hit with me.

This product is not really for me. I feel in love with the way 2 of my friends use this product for oily skin with acne. The coverage was wonderful and very natural. Not to much on my dry skin, I thought it makes my post acne flakes look obvious. . There are better things out there for me.

Tinted Moisturizer -Physicians Formula - Organic Wear - Ivory to Fair
rated 5 of 5
amy212 5/1/2010 4:13:00 PM

update: just wanted ladies to know this is NOT discontinued. I say this after Rite Aid cut the price by %75 and then removed this product. I have called the company to confirm this is still being produced and now buy it on online. I love this TM, I get compliments all the time over the glow my skin has wearing this, it looks very natural and wears really well. LOVE IT!!!!! ------- I really like this tinted moisturizer! I normally do not like them at all, They tend to be tinted in terms of color but past a sheer wash do nothing. This gives nice medium coverage and makes my pores vanish - something most foundations don't do. The scent makes my eyes burn a bit which is odd but does not really bother me. and I don't mind the way it smells. The colors are good but on the dark side of the sticker they show you. i am very pleased about how natural this looks and wears during the day. It does not crease in lines or wear off over problem areas. I do use concealer if I need to, the same as foundations and it is a good base.

Other -Unlisted Brand - Zinc
rated 5 of 5
amy212 3/25/2010 5:08:00 AM

THis review is for using zinc topically, ie zinc oxide on acne and other skin issues. This works great on both oily and dry spots. It evens evens out everything, making areas less oily or less dry. It also take the red out of pimples and makes them a lot less angry. I use zinc in a lot of soothing diaper cremes on my face. I love badger diaper cream, it also contains camomile. Very soothing and smells really pretty. Love it. I use it mainly for dry areas and acne. If oily skin, it may not work as well as other zinc products, I don't know.

THis is a great concealer! I love the ingredients and the color, but best of all this does not crease!!! Everything else creases on me,=. I thought that my laura mercier was good, but this is much better. This looks very natural, the medium color is just perfect! This is the first thing from this line not too dry for my skin. I will not be without this concealer.
