Masks -MyChelle - Guava Cactus Mask
rated 4 of 5

I originally bought this mask when my skin was slightly windburned, thinking it would be soothing. It wasn't - on already irritated skin this stings terribly. So this went straight to the back of the bathroom cupboard for several weeks. I tried it again on a whim when my skin was just feeling blah and dry and had a totally different experience. This isn't anything earth shattering, but I can see a significant calming and hydrating effect the morning after using it. I have some reservations about the price given that the effects are subtle, but I suspect I'll be purchasing this again.

Cleansers -MyChelle - Fruit Enzyme Cleanser
rated 4 of 5

This didn't work for my dry, sensitive skin - it's somehow too drying and not cleansing enough at the same time. But my husband loves it. His slightly oily skin is more matte and clear with regular use, and he has stopped getting bumps from shaving.

Skincare - Body -Badger - Sore Muscle Rub

This smells great, gingery and orangy. It doesn't seem to relieve muscle soreness right away, but it helps a lot with preventing soreness the day after a workout.

Gels/Soaps -Pangea Organics - Pyrenees Lavender with Damiana Tea Bar Soap
rated 4 of 5
amang 1/13/2008 1:16:00 PM

I had thought I was getting sick of lavender lately, with so many lavender scented products our there now, but I love this. The added oils really give it a nice warmth. The soap itself is nice, a little drying (as all soaps seem to be), but nicely foaming and pleasant to use. I previously tried their liquid shower gel and this is much better.

Treatments -LUSH - Jasmine & Henna Fluff Eaze Hair Treatment
rated 2 of 5
amang 11/13/2007 8:19:00 PM

This really backfired for me. I have naturally curly, very thick hair so I thought this would be perfect for me, but it left my hair feeling almost rough and with a lot more body than usual. My hair is thick enough on its own, more body is not a good thing. Fortunately it does seem to be fading. A week after trying it my hair is almost back to normal. Also, the jasmine sent was really overwhelming for the first 24 hours. It was pleasant at first, but after a while the smell was so strong it made me a little queasy.

Skincare - Body -LUSH - T For Toes

This is a lifesaver. I work in an office all summer, in New York City. Which means I wear close-toed heels with bare feet in 90 degree weather on the Subway. By mid-summer my feet are unbearably sweaty and smelly, and so I can't even take my shoes off under my desk b/c I know they smell up my whole office. But this totally fixed it. My feet do still sweat some, but not anywhere near what they normally do, and they don't smell. At all. Granted, the packaging is a little messy, etc, etc, but this stuff is absolutely worth it.

Skincare - Body -Badger - Sleep Balm
rated 5 of 5

What a lovely soothing smell. I'm not really into pure lavender scents, but this is really nice and fresh smelling. I've gotten into the habit of using a little on my pulse points before bed and I do feel like I'm falling asleep more easily lately, nothing dramatic but definitely worth trying. And this is a high quality balm with good ingredients so it's moisturizing/healing properties are great.

Moisturizers -Ren - Calendula Omega 3-7 Hydra Calm Moisturiser Sensitive Skin
rated 5 of 5
amang 5/22/2007 5:52:00 AM

It's a little early for a full review (just one week), but this is amazing. I've been using a gentle retinol and experiencing some irritation so I tried this hoping it would help calm my skin a little, but I didn't expect anything this dramatic. This makes my skin instantly less red and irritated, and in the last week of use my skin has become progressively less blotchy. And I've been able to use the retinol daily because of it, so that's working better also. The texture is a bit odd, sort of dry feeling and doesn't sink in right away. I felt at first like it might be too heavy for my acne skin, but so far I'm breaking out less than usual.

Sunscreen -Alba Botanica - Green Tea Spf 30 Sunscreen
rated 5 of 5

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet. I love this sunscreen. Great smell. It's thick and you can feel it on your skin once it's applied, but somehow it just isn't greasy. Compared to the thin, water based, more expensive Kiehl's sunscreen I bought for under makeup, this is actually leaves me much less shiny. I actually really like using this under makeup, it seems to act as almost a primer. And it's strong enough for days when I'm in the sun all day, both for my face and body.

Makeup Brushes -Urban Decay - Blush Brush
rated 5 of 5
amang 2/27/2007 7:03:00 AM

Hands down the softest brush I've ever used. I was a little wary of the size at first, it's so much smaller and firmer than other blush brushes I've used. But I've found that this gives me more control with application. Overall I'm very impressed with the quality of this, and plan to buy more brushes in the line.

Blush -Urban Decay - Score ]
rated 3 of 5

This is great. I'm pale and have been having a hard time finding a natural looking blush. Applied with a light hand this is just enough color to make me looked not washed out without being identifiable as blush, just nice and glowy. And the color is very flattering. The shimmer is visible in the pan, but not on my face at all. I'm actually very happy with both the size and the packaging. I usually find blushes get old and icky before I use them up anyway, so I'm happy to pay 16 for a little pan rather than 20 something for a big one. Edit: something in this seems to break me out, oh well.

Lotions/ Creams -Shi Kai - Borage Dry Skin Therapy hand cream
rated 5 of 5
amang 1/27/2007 8:47:00 AM

I've been struggling with eczema this winter and have tried lots of moisturizers. This is the best I've found. The cream is soothing and provides a moisturized feeling that really lasts, but sinks in quickly. I find the sent to be pleasant (thought almost imperceptible). It is a little pricey, but since using this my skin really seems to be improving so that's worth it to me. Edit: my husband says this smells like wet dog. I can't smell it, but the idea that people near me are wondering 'what's that smell' is plenty reason to stop using this.

Skincare - Body -Collective Wellbeing - Collective Wellbeing Body Wash Active Charcoal Zinc
rated 4 of 5
amang 1/18/2007 8:21:00 PM

I've been looking for a shower gel without SLS and have been generally disapointed with the options, so I was pleased to see that Collective Wellbeing has two choices, this and a more conventional lavendar-sented gel. This has a nice invigorating sent and leaves my skin feeling clean but not stripped. It is black, which was a surprise. It has an unusualy thick texture and doesn't lather much. But a few of the other gels I've tried lately have been either very drying (including most soap based cleansers such as Pangea), or too strongly sented. I admit to have chosen this partly because I fell for the claims on the packaging about purifying the skin. I don't necessarily believe it, but it sounded awfully nice after holiday excess. This would also be pretty guy friendly, given the macho color and the non-perfumy sent. I've given up hope of weaning my boy off Irish Spring, but maybe some of you ladies will have more luck with yours.

Moisturizers -St. Ives - Cucumber & Elastin Eye & Face Stress Gel ] [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
amang 1/15/2007 2:43:00 PM

I keep this in the fridge for when my eyes are puffy from allergies or crying. It's really great for reducing that kind of short-term, all over puffiness. The sent is light and pleasant.

Fragrances -Bond No.9 - Central Park
rated 1 of 5
amang 12/27/2006 9:49:00 PM

This is really bad. I normally like green fragrances, but this is so green that it seems really out of place on human skin. As one of those tree shaped air fresheners they sell in truck stops it would be perfect. And now I can't seem to wash it off my wrists...
