I bought this product about 5 weeks ago and was so excited to try it out! Upon reading the instructions it said that the product had to be charged a full 24 hours before the first use. I was so sad I had to wait another day but alas I was still excited about this splurge item that I had high hopes for. So the next day I used it for the first time. I followed the instructions and started with my forehead and immediately got an eyeful of soap. "Ok" I thought to myself, "next time start with the chin area and don't use so much soap." I finished the 1 minute of brushing my face and was excited to start a new and better skin care regime. Well the next day I noticed my skin looked irritated. But I was persistent and kept on using it 2 times a day on the slow speed. Then I got a few tiny pimples but they went away the next day. But then I got a few more zits and just figured my skin was going through the purging phase and kept pushing on. I cut back to once a day at night But it was still too much for my skin. (Which is combo/oily acne prone) After about 4 weeks I decided to take a few days off from using my mia2. My skin started flaking up big time (was it from the clarisonic overly irritating my skin?) so I decided to use the clarisonic again and the next day I had a few pimples on my chin and forehead! I was so done with this product! I returned it and would not recommend this product.
Primer/ Corrector -Urban Decay - All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray
agirlwithcakedupmakeup 2/14/2013 3:07:00 PM
This is the first makeup setting spray I have ever tried and so far so good! I have combo/oily acne prone skin and was a little afraid to use this product since everything breaks me out. BUT, I needed to try something that would help my makeup last a little longer throughout the work day. So, I purchased the 1 oz travel size (which i think was about $14 US) because I didn't want to commit to the 4 oz spray if I ended up hating it. I followed the instructions and used about 4-5 pumps after I finished applying all of my makeup and I really must say that it does help prolong the life of my makeup! It is light and refreshing and I highly recommend this to set your makeup. (especially if you're like me and can't find a primer that doesn't break you out) I know they make another spray specifically for oily skin (de-slick) but since this is the only one i've tried and so far it hasn't caused any breakouts, I'm going to stick with this one for now.
Okay, I really like this foundation but, it doesn't like me. This foundation just melts into the skin giving a flawless, light coverage (buildable to a medium coverage) dewy finish. I looooved the way it made my skin look but unfortunately I started breaking out from this. I could not find a perfect color match so I ended up buying 160 & 180 and mixing them together. If you're like me and more on the oily side you do have to set this with a powder, otherwise in a few hours your skin will look like a shiny disco ball. (I did not purchase the Revlon Nearly Naked one, I just used my Shiseido powder). I thought this would be a good winter foundation for me because during the winter months my cheeks get sooo dry, but unfortunately this was a no go. I got pimples all along my forehead and cheeks. :(
I really love this topcoat. You know when you first apply a topcoat and you're like wow, how shiny and glossy looking this looks! But then it dries down and you say "where did that high shine finish go that I was hoping for?" Well after this dries down, it keeps it's amazing "wet" shine! Love, love, love it! The only reason I took away 1 lippie is because over time, the formula starts getting thick and goopy. I have yet to go through a complete bottle because halfway through I need to repurchase a brand new one.
I have been using this foundation for over a month and I am loving it so far!I have combo/oily/acne prone (more on the oily side) skin. I find the finish to be "your skin but better" and the consistency is very liquidy but dries (very quickly) to a semi-matte finish. (I suggest doing one one section of your face at a time because it does dry that quickly.) The coverage is medium in my opinion. I use the shade I40 and find it to be a perfect match. I love the packaging as well. Very light weight and since it's a plastic bottle it's very travel friendly. I do tend to get shiny within a few hours with any liquid foundation so I have to set this with a light layer of my Sheer Mattifying compact in I40, mostly just on my T-zone. Coverage lasts all day, but I do have to touch up with a powder halfway through the day (that's just my skin though...if you're a more normal skin type, you may not have to). So far I can report there have been no breakouts due to this product! yay!!! I will update with any changes but so far I am loving this and have had people compliment me with a "hey..your skin looks nice today!" so it must be good right?! hehe
Tinted Moisturizer -Nuance by Salma Hayek - Tinted Moisturizer
agirlwithcakedupmakeup 3/3/2012 11:32:00 AM
Despite most of the bad reviews...I kind of like this product! I have terribly oily/acne-prone skin and was a little hesitant trying out a Tinted Moisturizer, but...my skin has been all wacky this winter so I took a gamble! (I was using my regular Vichy Dermablend which has great coverage and doesn't cause any breakouts... but since my skin was so dry on my cheeks and my t-zone so oily...my makeup would just look "off".) So I tried this out. Yes, it has hardly any coverage (it's a tinted moisturizer people!) Yes, the tube is kind of teeny and yes it's on the yellow side, but all that is working for me. I put it on and it tones down my redness. It doesn't make me look oily because it's oil-free and it hasn't caused any breakouts. I use this in light-medium and I use this as my moisturizer and on light days where I don't want a "i'm wearing a lot of makeup" look. I just apply a layer of my Shiseido Powdery powder foundation and I'm all set.
I don't know why there are so many negative reviews on this. I tend to have very thin nails that split easily. I have been using this for about a month now as a base coat and I have noticed my nails ARE stronger. They're not as weak as they used to be and have not split at all. This product does peel if you wear it alone but I have no problems with it after I do my manicure.
This is my HG liquid eyeliner! I love the color (rich dark matte) and the shape of the pen really makes the eyeliner easy to apply. I do a winged eyeliner look pretty much everyday of the week and I've tried tons of other liquid eyeliners and this one just goes on so easily and the pen is very easy to control. It stays put all day long, doesn't smudge and it's easy to take off too! (no waterproof eye makeup remover needed!)
Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express Turbo Boost Waterproof
agirlwithcakedupmakeup 9/9/2011 10:19:00 AM
This is one of those mascaras that I keep going back to even though I "try" to find something better. (still looking for my HG!) I have short, stick straight lashes and all non-waterproof mascaras drop the curl immediately after I lash curl them.. so I have to stick with waterproof formulas. This gives me a little bit of length but gives me alot of volume. It gives my lashes some drama without being spidery and clumpy. Negatives: the waterproof formula is very hard to take off so you have to use a good eye makeup remover (i.e.: neutrogena eye makeup remover, or Lumene waterproof makeup remover...if you want high end go for Lancome bi-facil) I highly recommend this mascara for someone with my type of lashes.
L'Oreal face products continue to surprise me. Normally drugstore foundation isn't the best but this one is very nice! You can control the amount of coverage you want so if you want to have a natural daytime look just to go run errands this is great, if you want more coverage, just keep applying more! I also like this on top of my liquid foundation to set it and give me a stay-put nighttime look. This has not caused any breakouts and the color selection is pretty good! Only reason I didn't give it 5 lippies is because my oily skin does tend to go right through the powder after a few hours and the packaging is not travel-friendly. But all in all it's a great product and I highly recommend it. **UPDATE**: After using this for a while my skin started to breakout. I think it's because the brush is attached and I can't really wash it. I attempted to clean it but the brush got mis-shapened and I kind of don't get the same results as before. :(
Foundations -Vichy - Dermablend Corrective Foundation
agirlwithcakedupmakeup 9/8/2011 9:17:00 PM
A little goes a looooong way! This product covers amazingly and you can just use one little dollop and your whole face is done! I'm acne-prone and this has caused no breakouts whatsoever. I wish they had a larger color selection but I just buy 2 or 3 different shades and mix and blend to match my skin tone since it's always changing (winter I'm fair, summer i'm tan or bland depending how much I go out in the sun). I don't mind forking over the $ for this product because I know it will last me a long time. UPDATE 1/22/13: I have stopped using this foundation just because lately it's been making my face feel like an oil slick.
I don't know if I got a bad batch but the wand never came out clean when I took it out of the tube. The bristles were always clumped with tons of mascara and I couldn't get the product to apply nicely on my lashes. This mascara would just not work right and I ended up with gunky lashes. Definately do not recommend this product based on the one I purchased. Hopefully it was just a faulty package but I do not recommend.
Again another MAC product I have to write a negative review. :( I am a HUGE fan of their eyeshadows, lipsticks, blushes, lipglass, liners and brushes but their Studio products are just terrible on me! I found this to have great coverage and the color selection was great but it tended to make whatever area I applied the product to feel greasy and it settled into my little eye lines emphasizing the tiredness I was trying to conceal! I also found that when I used this to cover a blemish on my cheek or chin I would break out several days later in not just regular pimples, but HUGE CYSTS. :( I tried so hard to love you MAC face products but my skin won't let me.
Oh how I hate writing a negative review for a MAC product but I've found nearly all of their foundations and concealers clog my pores and reek havoc on my skin! Their color palette is amazing but it never fails that when I use this product, after several days I break out with huge cysts on my chin and cheeks. If you are lucky enough to have beautiful, normal, non acne-prone skin I would say go for it because the coverage and color matches are amazing but if you're like me...STAY AWAY!!
I have very acne prone skin and am very cautious with any new products that I try, but this product is a staple in my arsenal. I apply a thin layer over my entire face (excluding the eye area) day and night. It helps prevent any acne. I will say though, if you have cystic acne (which is also a problem for me, especially during my TOTM) it will not work on it but I don't think anything over the counter would work on a cyst so I use a cream from my dermatologist to get rid of that.
