Moisturizers -Unlisted Brand - Xtend-life Restorative night cream

The marketing team at XtendLife is very active, and you'll see all kinds of "testimonials" for their products popping up on the Internet and on various forums. I have had several XTend Life "comments" left on my blog, and have found identical Gosh-I-tried-this-product-and-it's-a MIRACLE! comments on various skincare forums. On my own forum, I get people popping in and out with comments like, "Has anyone tried XTend Life? My Aunt has and she says it's AMAZING!!!!" I kick them all off. As someone who writes about truth in beauty products and who is in her 50s, I decided to try it. (This was over six months ago and I used it for five months.) My impression? Not worth the investment. The cream itself seems pleasant enough to use but there are absolutely no effects (or ingredients of note, since the primary hyped-up ingredient is patented) in terms of improving the appearance/elasticity of the skin.

Styling Products -Schwarzkopf - Osis+ Dust it mattifying powder

I am incredibly impressed with this product. I have very fine, long hair and had just had it trimmed. My stylist asked me if I wanted the crown backbrushed and I said yes. She backbrushed it then shook this in and told me I wouldn't need spray as this would keep the crown raised until I washed it again. I actually laughed at that. This was yesterday and today, I woke up and found my hair looking just as it did when I left the salon. I later walked around in a windstorm but still that backbrushing stayed in place! All I can say is two manicured thumbs up. AMAZING product!!!

Treatments (Eye) -Unlisted Brand - DermaLastyl-E Intensive Eye Serum

Update: after a couple of weeks, the lines came right back. I have now managed to get rid of the lines completely using a combination of Skin Actives Bright-I in the pm and IS Clinical Youth Complex in the am. I'll second this high review. I've been using the eye product for eight days on a rash of tiny wrinkles that appeared after a lower bleph (which wasn't necessary as the dark line it was supposed to reduce turned out to be due to use of a respirator during my glasswork). I've used a few products over the area, none of which have so far worked and most of which have contained peptides. Unless it's a trick of the light, my tiny lines seem significantly reduced.

Polishes -Unlisted Brand - Suncoat water-based nailpolish

UGH! UGH! UGH! What a disappointment. I bough the pretty plum shade at Whole Foods and was completely turned off by the lumps when I opened it. I tried some on one nail and it was a lumpy goo-like consistency. I would love to use something less toxic than pthalate-containing OPI, but this is no substitute. WF gave me my $ back with a smile, which is good.

Lipstick -MAC - Lustre Lipstick
rated 5 of 5
Wuzzo 12/18/2007 4:02:00 PM

I have this lipstick in Syrup (already reviewed with 5 lippies) and just bought Politely Pink - a pale champagne pink. Wow! This sheer lipstick is just perfect over my Lipfusion XXL. I wanted something to cool down that clear glossy look and give my lips a natural, pale but not chalky look. This colour works PERFECTLY to achieve this end.

Eye Shadow -Vincent Longo - Wet diamond eye shadow
rated 4 of 5
Wuzzo 11/30/2007 5:59:00 PM

I bought this eyeshadow in Midnight Taboo. I thought it was going to come out on my eyelids as a rich, glittery purple-navy - ideal for evening wear. The sales associate informed me that it was very heavily pigmented. Well, this has to be one of the lightest pigmented shadows from a higher-end company. I have to use my brush in four or five sweeps to see any colour at all. So why did I give it four lippies? Because the subtle blue-purple colour is perfect for daywear. I mix it with a sea green shade from MAC, with the Longo shadow to the outer edge of the lid and in the crease. It has to be one of the prettiest combos ever. I find too that the heavily pigmented MAC seems to bring out the purple more when applied underneath. However, the overall effect remains very subtle. I tried it with a wet brush for eyeliner and none of the promised glitter showed up. That was rather disappointing, given the higher price point.

Conditioner -Yes To Carrots - Pampering Hair Mud Conditioner
rated 5 of 5
Wuzzo 11/22/2007 12:43:00 PM

Another outstanding YTC product. I've already rated the shampoo a 5. This conditioner is the same: leaves my long, fine, highlighted hair remarkably manageable and shiny. In my job, I've reviewed over 200 shampoos and conditioners and would put these two products right up there in the top 5. YTC products have no dangerous chemicals like sodium lauryl sulphate.

Shampoo -Yes To Carrots - Pampering Carrot Juice Shampoo
rated 5 of 5
Wuzzo 11/22/2007 12:39:00 PM

Most shampoos. even that expensive Nanoworks stuff, do diddly squat for my hair. I have very fine, highlighted, long hair. This shampoo doesn't contain any dangerous ingredients like the L-sulphates and was sent to me to review and write about in a consumer health magazine. I am most impressed. The lather is low, the scent wonderful, and there is little doubt this shampoo exceeds other drugstore brands in quality. My hair is "shiny and manageable" and I am very pleased with it. Ditto for the conditioner.

Cleansers -Juice Beauty - Green Apple Cleansing Gel
rated 3 of 5
Wuzzo 11/21/2007 2:29:00 PM

Although there was nothing really wrong with this product, I agree with the reviewer who said it had a strange smell and didn't foam well. It's not one I would buy again as I didn't enjoy using it. It cleaned my face well, however, and left my skin very smooth.

Lip Treatments -Juice Beauty - Lip Plumper
rated 2 of 5
Wuzzo 11/16/2007 2:58:00 PM

Sadly, for me, this is another dud from Juice. While I agree with the reviewer who said it has no plumping action but is a good balm, I won't give it five lippies for being a BALM when I invested in a lip PLUMPER. (Grr!) I was able to return it. On the plus side, it smells pleasantly citrusy on application.

Scrubs -Juice Beauty - Exfoliating Cleanser
rated 3 of 5
Wuzzo 11/16/2007 2:53:00 PM

Hmm, much as I like JB products, this scrub does nothing for me. I kept comparing it with Bliss Fabulous Foaming Cleanser and it doesn't compete in my opinion. (Bliss FFC has much more gentle exfoliating beads and smells like heaven.) First, the smell reminds me of Vim or Ajax. I didn't find it pleasant. Second, I found the beads to be quite scratchy (but again I'm comparing...) The packaging is nice but I won't be buying this product again.

Treatments -Fusion Beauty - LiftFusion Micro-Injected M-Tox Transdermal Face Lift
rated 1 of 5
Wuzzo 11/11/2007 8:00:00 PM

Ugh! This product is just as appalling as the mascara. I was given this as a half-finished tube from a friend, who was similarly amazed by the smell and poor quality of the product. It seems to me that this company charges high and is relying on one-time sales to boost their coffers. Don't waste your money. Methinks Fusion Beauty is giving "Good Housekeeping" a bad name.

Lipstick -Shiseido - The Makeup Lipstick in "Nuance Rose"
rated 5 of 5
Wuzzo 11/6/2007 12:42:00 PM

This lipstick is perfect for my slightly-darker-than-PPP skintone and ash blonde hair. It is very pigmented but never looks thick and fake. The colour is a neutral deep rose. Lovely packaging as well! It goes equally well with a tan so is great for all-year use.

Lipstick -MAC - Frost - Angel
rated 5 of 5
Wuzzo 11/6/2007 12:39:00 PM

This pretty, neutral pink lipstick is perfect for spring and summer (I prefer Syrup in the fall and winter). Never Barbie-like or little girl-ish, it's a staple in my makeup bag. It's not shimmery at all, but very creamy and feels luxurious to apply.

Lipstick -MAC - Lustre in Syrup
rated 5 of 5
Wuzzo 11/6/2007 12:36:00 PM

I LOVE this lipstick! Lovely quality, FANTABULOUS, subtle dark/nude colour, and quite sheer. I didn't find it particularly "lustre" like. It's just perfect over DuWop Neutral lip pencil in Neutron. If I have one "complaint" it's that I have to keep reapplying it as it doesn't last too long on me.
