Primer/ Corrector -Laura Geller - Spackle primer/corrector in Bronze
rated 1 of 5
Writer_Girl 12/30/2012 6:22:00 PM

This stuff is awful and I really wanted to like it! It's like there's nothing on my face but tiny sparkles. There's no glow and it certainly does not perfect the texture of my skin. The primer part doesn't even do it's job - makeup doesn't last longer or go on better or keep colors true. Also the product that is stuck in the pump after using it, is like rubber the next time you use it. You have to pick these pieces out of the usable liquid part of the product, so there's also a lot of waste. Sadly this was a big waste of my money and so disappointing!

Treatments -Obagi - Professional-C Serum 20%
rated 5 of 5
Writer_Girl 12/30/2012 6:13:00 PM

I am using the 15% formula, since I had never used it before and wasn't sure how my skin would react. The 15% formula is also cheaper than the 20%. But I wish I'd bought the 20%! But I love this stuff! It makes my skin feel wonderful and I believe it has helped my overall skin appearance and health. It's expensive and I use much more than the 5 drops it says to use - I just can't cover my face with just 5 drops... It's more like 10. But that's okay because you can't keep this stuff for too long anyway, since extended exposure to light and time makes the Vitamin C in it disappear. I feel a very, very slight tingle and it makes my face red at first. I let it sink in for about 5-10 minutes and by then the redness is gone. I then put my moisturizer on top. I will definitely purchase the 20% next time. I just love Obagi products!

Liquid -Clinique - Redness Solutions Makeup SPF 15 with Probiotic Technology
rated 5 of 5
Writer_Girl 12/30/2012 6:05:00 PM

This is my HG makeup! Nothing works as well as this to cover my redness and blemishes. I apply with the Clinique makeup brush, which is also heavenly. The coverage is more than medium and the color I use (02) is perfect for my skin. I usually only use this on my chin, nose and inner cheek area (around my nose) and it blends perfectly while making the pesky redness and tiny blemishes disappear! I then just set it with a mineral powder. I use so little of it and it lasts so long that I don't find it too expensive. Can't live without this!

Moisturizers -L'Occitane - Immortelle Very Precious Cream
rated 5 of 5
Writer_Girl 10/29/2011 9:58:00 PM

This has become my HG moisturizer. I just LOVE it! Immortelle is an evergreen shrub (herb) with aromatic leaves and small button-like flowers. Its therapeutic properties in skincare are that of it being anti-allergenic, anti-inflammatory, and astringent. It promotes new cell growth and also has good antioxidant qualities. The cream has a slight dry hay or dry flower smell, which I don't like, but it's very mild and doesn't last too long (up to 30 minutes?). It's very rich, but soaks right in to my combination dehydrated skin. My skin is smoother, with less lines, fresh looking, and it doesn't break me out. In fact, it has helped my skin to NOT break out. I was never that great with my skin care regimen (even though I'm in my mid-40s), but this product actually makes me WANT to wash, tone (Mario Badescu products) and hydrate my skin with this. I am so amazed by this cream! I keep looking for break outs and there's nothing there! And my skin seems to be hydrated for the first time in years (no more flakes of skin), yet this product doesn't make my T-zone area oily. It's fairly expensive and I use a fair amount to cover my face and neck, but will definitely buy again and never be without it. Highly recommend. UPDATE: After many years, I no longer have dehydrated skin after using this product daily!!! I've even had compliments on my skin - and that's a first. No breakouts and a lot less blackheads. I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS STUFF!

Foundations -Perfekt - Skin Perfection Gel
rated 5 of 5
Writer_Girl 10/29/2011 9:32:00 PM

I absolutely LOVE this product! It has become my HG. I have combination, dehydrated skin with some redness and large pores. This product makes my skin look nearly flawless and it doesn't break me out. It takes away the redness and reduces the size of my pores. It does exactly what the product claims: "Glides on effortlessly to instantly improve skin tone, reduce redness, and help minimize the appearance of enlarged pores and fine lines. Enriched with powerful antioxidants including the universal antioxidant alpha lipoic acid, and vitamins A and E to help repair, protect, and fight future environmental skin damage, this lightweight gel helps maintain hydration leaving the skin with a healthy, even glow by locking in moisture and absorbing excess skin oils." I put it on over my moisturizer. You have to tap it into your face (for the pores) and then smooth it in. A little goes a long way. I don't find the coverage to be as sheer as everyone else seems to think, but it also doesn't look like I'm wearing any foundation whatsoever. If you want more coverage, this product is buildable. My skin stays matte, yet doesn't feel tight. I do a light dusting of mineral powder on top, and then I'm set for the whole day! No touch ups or powdering my nose. There is a choice of only five tints (one of which is translucent), but that is because this product uses the PH in your skin to match your skin color - so I don't know why there are so many complaints about this. I use Radiant and I'm fair, but tan easily. Again, it doesn't look like I'm wearing anything! And it feels light, too. It's very expensive for one measly ounce. I've only been using this for a week and wonder how long it will last. Regardless, I will purchase it again. My skin has never looked better!!! LOVE IT! Never used a primer/foundation that is as wonderful as this.

Treatments -L'Oreal - Skin Genesis Pore minimizing Skin Re-Smoother
rated 5 of 5
Writer_Girl 5/26/2009 1:57:00 PM

This stuff is amazing!!! I have bought so many "pore minimizing" products and none of them have ever worked. This product worked right from the very first application! My usually huge pores are all but invisible, and it also leaves my skin very smooth and silky, yet matte. I bought it on sale, so the price wasn't too bad. And I only use 1 1/2-2 pumps and lightly apply it to my face (don't use too much because it won't sink in properly). I follow with my Avene moisturizer (I have combination/oily skin, but it's also dehydrated), and my face glows! I've been using it for about four days and it hasn't given me any breakouts - yet (will update if this changes). It is also a really great base for makeup. People are already asking what I've done to my complexion!

Lotions/ Creams -The Body Shop - Body Butter Shea
rated 5 of 5
Writer_Girl 2/4/2009 8:39:00 AM

This product is wonderful! I really love the smell. It really moisturizes and gives my skin a luxurious feel - not sticky or greasy. My skin just drinks it in. It doesn't last the whole day, so I sometimes use it at night as well. I've noticed that it also makes my tan last a lot longer and makes me less apt to peel if I have a slight sunburn. And it's pretty cheap when The Body Shop has this on sale.

Moisturizers -Avene - Rich Hydrating Cream - Hydrance Optimale Riche
rated 5 of 5
Writer_Girl 2/4/2009 8:33:00 AM

This product is my HG moisturizer! Although I have oily and acne-prone skin, my skin is dehydrated - not "dry" - which also makes my skin flakey. This moisturizer has a wonderful consistency and my skin just sucks it up! The flakes are gone and my skin feels wonderful - and it doesn't make my skin break-out. I use it morning and night to make sure my skin doesn't get dehydrated. And it's not a bad price when you can get it on sale. This is one of the very few products that I've actually bought more than two times. I've tried others, but I keep coming back to this. Love Avene!

Cleansers -Marcelle - Marcelle Aquarelle Oil-Free Purifying Cleansing Gel [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
Writer_Girl 2/4/2009 8:27:00 AM

I just started using this product and I really like it. It doesn't strip my face like most other cleansers (lately have been using one by Clinique). I have oily skin, but it is dehydrated - much different than "dry" skin - and even though this product is oil-free, my skin feels great - not tight and flakey! The only thing I don't like about it is that it should be in a pump. The gel is quite liquidy and comes out of the tube very quickly, so be careful!

Skincare - Face -Aveeno - Positively Ageless Rejuvenating Serum [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
Writer_Girl 8/24/2007 1:40:00 PM

I love this product and it has become my HG! I'm 41 with oily/combo skin. This product feels and smells so clean and my skin drinks in the serum like water in a sponge. My pores - normally huge - are so much smaller, and I've only been using this product for 3 days! Nothing has ever worked on my pores like that. And it doesn't make me break out and has reduced the oil in my skin throughout the day. My skin is so soft and smooth, my makeup glides on, and the packaging is terrific (small pump). I also purchased the Face Brightening Daily Scrub yesterday and it has evened out my skin tone unlike anything else in just one day. Highly recommend! And if you buy it on sale, it's a pretty good bargain.

Moisturizers -RoC - Purif-AC Soothing Reparator
rated 5 of 5
Writer_Girl 5/24/2007 12:15:00 PM

I bought this product because of the positive MUA reviews for it. But when I got to the store, I was hesitant to buy it because it said "For Youth Problem Skin Undergoing Treatment" - or something like that. I am 41 and not undergoing any treatments. But I bought it anyway (it was on sale for 15% off). First of all the packaging is great. There is really no smell (some creams really smell awful!!!) and the texture is so thick and creamy! I've only used it now for 2 days and I love it! My skin texture has greatly improved, makeup stays on better and my pores actually look smaller! I've tried TONS of stuff that claim to make pores smaller and none of them have ever worked. Great stuff! Will update if anything changes in the weeks to come.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Professional Mascara
rated 5 of 5
Writer_Girl 8/10/2006 11:06:00 AM

This mascara is my HG - and I've tried tons of different ones from Lancome and Clinique to drugstore brands. On sale, I buy this for CAD $3.99 and it's just as good or better than many department store/Sephora brands. The mascara isn't too thick and it coats each lash. I have very long eyelashes, but I'm blonde so they're not very dark. I use the CURVED BRUSH (also available in the straight brush which isn't nearly as good) in blackest black. Occasionally it clumps, but I think that's just the nature of mascara. I use an eyelash brush which easily fans out my lashes. And you can't beat the price! I've been using it for years and I love it! I try other brands but keep coming back to this one.

Concealers -Sally Hansen - Clear-It Concealer in Light Beige
rated 1 of 5
Writer_Girl 8/8/2006 5:54:00 PM

This stuff is horrible! Even though I bought it on sale, it was a waste of my money. The product does not blend at all and it doesn't cover anything - not even the redness that I have on my face. It actually accentuates my blemishes. And the packaging? You have to guess what the colour of the product is because it comes in an opaque blue lipstick tube - you can't see the colour inside. I'm 40 with combination skin, quite oily in the T-Zone with frequent breakouts. Disappointing!

Eyeliner -MAC - Fluidline - Non-Conformist
rated 5 of 5
Writer_Girl 7/24/2006 2:49:00 PM

I absolutely love Mac's Fluidline eyeliners! This colour, a gorgeous violet, was my first purchase and went and bought some more. At 40 years of age, I still have very oily skin and have never found an eyeliner that doesn't end up in the creases under my eyes within a few hours. This is the only product that STAYS PUT until I take it off - even after 16+ hours!!! It comes in a little pot and seems to be a cross between a cream and a gel. It goes on incredibly smooth and easy (you'll need to buy a special eyeliner brush - I have the slanted kind), and is very forgiving if you've made a mistake. It also comes off easily with your regular cleanser and water. They cost CAD $17.50 each, but they last forever! There are lots of beautiful colours to choose from and this colour brings out the green in my eyes. A wonderful product and worth the money. I won't buy any other eyeliner again!

Treatments -Dr. Brandt - Laser Tight
rated 2 of 5
Writer_Girl 7/17/2006 11:12:00 AM

I really wanted to like this product, despite the exorbitant price tag. But I haven't figured out what the hype is all about. I'm 40 and have combination/very oily skin and this product did nothing for me - either positive or negative. I received two sample packets from Sephora and have been using it twice a day for the past four days, and whereas it does feel nice (tingly and clean feeling) when I put it on my skin, I do not see any difference whatsoever (no tightening or pore reduction or improvement in skin tone or already-there breakouts). Maybe I should be using more or maybe for a longer period of time, but I'll never know because I've run out of my samples. I'd buy it if it were under $20 to really find out if this product is for me, but... Definitely disappointing!
