Moisturizers -Kiehls - Ultra Facial Moisturizer

I needed a basic day moisturizer for my slowly drying out winter skin. My skin is cranky. It breaks out, it gets oily all of a sudden, and a lot of products -- including Olay for sensitive skin -- give me a rash. I liked the Dr. Weil for Origins, but found it was really pricey and having that earthy patchouli scent near my face al the time was bothering me. Also, I'm pregnant, so I have to be careful of all the extra chemicals in my products. Vitamin A, and derivatives like retinoids, are out. No glycolc, no AHAs except lactic acid. It was getting really difficult to find something that didn't have all these bells and whistles! This product has been excellent -- you don't need much for combo skin, it absorbs quickly, and my face doesn't turn into an oil slick for hours, plus my skin actually feels hydrated. The only drawback is the packaging. The bottle is hard to squeeze product through the little cap. I thought the price was fine for such a high quality product and will be purchasing this again as wel as the body lotion version.

Mascara -Kevyn Aucoin - Volumizing Mascara

I've been having so much trouble with mascara melting under my eyes. I have sparse but long lashes and I really like the way that Cover Girl Lash Blast looks when I first apply it, but two hours later it's under my eyes and I have to diligently swipe it away and the sensitive skin under my eyes was going crazy! My friend recommended this to me and I may never buy another kind of mascara again. Absolutely my HG mascara. It goes on nicely with no clumping and stays on all day with zero drift. It even survives my Zumba classes and horseback riding! If you have trouble with mascara not staying in place, you will love this mascara. Yes, it is expensive. I just don't care. It's awesome.

Powder -Rimmel - Lasting Finish Mineral Powder Foundation
rated 4 of 5

One morning I woke up and for some reason watched ALL the tutorials on the Rimmel site. Then I went to Target and bought some of the products. I really LIKE this powder. I HATED the puff thingy and ripped that sucker right out after about 30 seconds of basically punching myself in the face ... I now use a Bare Escentuals brush and dip it in the pot for a light layer of power and tap it into the top. Then in a circular motion the girl at Sephora taught me, I put it on to even out my skin. I look great, my skin doesn't break out, and this stuff doesn't smell bad like the Neutrogena brand mineral powders that smell a bit like egg.

Lotions/ Creams -Gold Bond - Lotion
rated 5 of 5

I live in Tucson, Arizona and the sun can be relentless here. I wanted to find a body lotion that didn't smell chemically, wasn't chalky, moisturized, and had SPF 15 or more. Target sells Gold Bond Ultimate Protection Body Lotion with SPF 15 and so far, it's a great product. I've tried Eucerin's version and Lubriderm's version. I went with the Gold Bond because it smells faintly of Lily of the Valley and it was less than $9. I'll update my review after a few more days of use, but so far my skin feels smooth and soft, not greasy, and the smell is really pleasant. The packaging is far from sexy or pretty. Just a utilitarian pump bottle. Maybe I'll sew it a cute cozy or modge podge it with some cute paper just to make it not look like such a toad on my counter!

Eyeliner -L'Oreal - HiP loose kohl eyeliner
rated 4 of 5

After reading about it on Apocalipstick, I went out and bought a tubey of the brown color. I wasn't ready to commit to the Guerlain stuff. That is just way too pricey for a loose kohl newbie. I love the L'Oreal stuff. It's simple to use, just tap the side of the applicator on the water line. And after that initial "Hey, something is in my eye" twinge (feels like when you get powder or eye shadow in it) the sensation goes away and you are left with nothing but glamorous eyes. My mom came to visit last week. Now she owns the stuff too. We are loose kohl converts! My only complaints are: 1. Packaging. Why is this thing not safety sealed at the store? 2. My allergies: I do not look cute with puffy eyes and kohl. Makes me look like a zombie. I'm not allergic to the product, just Tucson dust. Just a warning to you allergy girls out there. Take your Claritin first!

Powder -BeneFit Cosmetics - Hello Flawless!

EDIT: HATE this product. It is for sure the product that is breaking me out in this little rash. No wearing this ever again. And for the record, my friend Julie bought it the same day and is having the EXACT same problem. I really like this product. I ended up with the Champagne shade after a test from the girl at Sephora. I had been hunting the product down because I thought it would be perfect for Tucson: sun and hot means you needs SPF and something that you can layer over oily parts of the face without making it feel like concrete. The coverage is sheer, but does a nice job evening out my complexion and didn't cake around my concealer. Also, it didn't feel chalky or make my skin go oily on me. I don't like the compact it came in. My nail slipped and immediately chipped on the recessed opening. Wish it had a little more grippage. Other than that, though, it's lovely! Now if it was just $10 cheaper I'd be in heaven. Edit: If I leave this on my face overnight (cuz I'm a lazy girl sometimes) I find it makes me break out in what looks like mini pimples but which I know is actually a rash (Neutrogena Sheer Block gives me the same bumps). Note to self: Get off your butt and wash your face before bedtime!
