Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow in Heather Mauve #23
TrinaD 1/3/2013 11:57:00 PM
I bought this shade as a colour match for a discontinued Revlon shade. It looked very similar in store but in natural light the shade lacked depth. No matter, I thought I'd enjoy a twist on my original shade and adapt. I have been disappointed in the product overall. The shadow really doesn't have enough pigment and on my light complexion, makes me looked tired and washed out. I'm not happy with the staying power either. After a few hours, all that remained was a pale glittery lid which offered no enhancement to my blue eyes. I would be reluctant to purchase another shimmer wash eye shadow in any shade.

Moisturizers -RoC - New Hydra+ Bio Active spf15 Normal Skin [DISCONTINUED]
TrinaD 5/11/2012 2:48:00 AM
I would like to offer a mature skin review for this moisturiser. I've been using this each day for several months in conjunction with the RoC Complete Lift night cream each evening and Bobbi Brown eye gel. The lotion feels a little light for my skin and I wondered if it was emollient enough. A skin diagnosis from a beauty therapist revealed that my skin is a little dry, although not dehydrated. I was disappointed with this news as my skin feels very smooth and soft. On a positive note, she was impressed (her words) with my eye area which was not dehydrated (thanks to my BB eye gel I suspect). I've decided not to repurchase as my skin routine is not doing me any favours however this moisturiser may be well suited to a younger, oiler complexion.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Colossal Waterproof
TrinaD 4/11/2010 3:04:00 AM
Colossal waste of time! I found the formula to be very dry and it did nothing to lengthen or thicken my lashes. I could only describe it as having darkened them with a thin veneer of blackness. The brush design left me with black spots on my eyelids at the base of my lashes - I found the thickness of the brush very difficult to work with and try as I might, I found that most applications left me with black marks where I least wanted them. Will not repurchase.

Scrubs -RoC - Gommage Douceur Gentle Exfoliating Cream
TrinaD 12/5/2009 7:20:00 PM
What a lovely product - gentle, fun to use and most importantly, effective. It is my favourite exfoliating product ever! I have sensitive rosacea skin and feared that the rubbing action required to make the cream slough off would redden my skin and perhaps break small capillaries which I had experienced previously with this form of exfoliation. I'm so pleased to say that providing I support the skin well while rubbing the cream, I'm left with a calm, very smooth and clearer looking face. In fact, my skin looks just as it would if I'd had a professional facial. This one is definitely a keeper.

Foundations -Max Factor - Age Renew
TrinaD 9/9/2009 11:13:00 PM
Since I'm cutting back on my budget, I tried Age Renew as an alternative to my HG foundation, Estee Lauder Futurist. So my first hurdle was finding the right shade. As others have found, the lighter shades are very pink! I ended up going for Golden and was surprised that it wasn't too deep a shade and helped to neutralise my own pink toned skin. Next, I found the fragrance a bit unpleasant but bearable. Then I noted the application and was quite impressed. The pump style bottle makes it a cinch to get just the right amount - no wastage! The liquid has an almost mousse-like feel as it blends easily on my skin and has plenty of slip. It settled nicely, provided nice coverage and left a healthy glow without looking oily. One negative is that, unlike Futurist, Age Renew does reveal some flakiness and enlarged pores so it doesn't give me the perfect finish I get from my favourite foundation. On the whole though, at half the price, I think this is a good product to use daily. I may even alternate bottles with Futurist to save money here and there. The bottle is plastic and light. I definitely don't feel quite so nervous when my 3 year old helps herself to my makeup drawer - she almost dropped my Futurist once which would have been an expensive mishap! So any 40+ ladies may like to give this a try if you can find a shade match.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Casting Creme Gloss
TrinaD 9/7/2009 4:42:00 PM
I have used both Chocolate and Praline and found both colours nice in my naturally medium brown hair. I don't have a problem with the shades being too dark but rather that they fade quite quickly. It's true that my hair is glossy and soft after application so there is definitely some conditioning value. I'm disappointed to say though that the colour faded after only a few washes with colour care shampoo and the conditioner supplied with the hair colour. So the effort of doing my own hair colour in between all of life's commitments was met with a very temporary result - not worth it L'Oreal! My limited greys were covered adequately by the initial colouring but (and I think this is due to the colour fade), I noticed a few grey hairs back within days of colouring so that was frustrating too. I knew I hadn't been successful with my recent Praline use as I had my hair cut 3 days afterwards and my hairdresser asked me if I wanted my colour "freshened" up while I was there! She didn't even notice I'd used a home option and thought I just had colour fade from the last "professional" colour which was done 8 weeks before! So I won't repurchase and am now researching other options.

Eyeliner -Almay - Intense i-Color Bring out the Blue
TrinaD 7/14/2008 1:07:00 AM
Nice, sparkly bronze colour which is suitable for a neutral/taupe eyeshadow palette. I find the application a bit haphazard at times as the rounded tip can leave a too thick line on the lower eyelid. Removes easily for adjustment however. Barely lasts the distance of a regular 8 hour working day so can leave one looking a little less polished by the end of the day. I won't buy a replacement when I'm done with this one.

Lip Gloss -Pupa - Lip perfection ultra reflex 04
TrinaD 12/29/2007 8:48:00 PM
I have this gloss in the shade 06 which looks like a red-pink shade in the tube. It applies a bit paler than I expected but I'm happy with the colour just the same. I find this gloss lasts quite well and provides a lovely sparkly sheen that is very pretty for summer. I wear it with a pink cream blush and silvery, smoky eye. It has more staying power than my Revlon lip gloss equivalent. The flavour and fragrance are quite subtle so shouldn't disturb anyone! I'm interested in trying other colours as I think this gloss is quite good value for money.

Cleansers -Joey New York - Calm and Correct cleanser
TrinaD 12/29/2007 8:28:00 PM
I don't have too many positive points to make on this cleanser. I have sensitive rosacea skin. Firstly, the citrus content seems to create a vapour when it connects with my dampened skin and this causes my eyes to sting and water even though I do not use the cleanser anywhere near my eye area. Secondly, and this is hard to describe, my skin seems to absorb the product, leaving a strange feeling on my skin's surface. Thirdly, despite always cleansing twice with the use of a face cloth, I find this product to be useless at removing makeup. I use the Calm and Correct Toner after cleansing and the white cotton makeup pad is always brown with foundation which to me is a sign of a very poorly performing cleanser. Last night I decided to return to my Dove Extra Sensitive soap bar and my skin feels so soft and clean this morning so I'm going to stick with my old friend and ditch the Joey New York! Oh - my only positive comment is that I don't mind the packaging and the squeeze bottle style.

Moisturizers -Olay - Complete with SPF 15 Lotion
TrinaD 4/25/2007 1:21:00 AM
Very disappointed with this product but must explain that I have added it to my regime having commenced the use of Olay Moisture Therapy Cream - Sensitive Skin about a month ago. I've been using the Complete during the day under makeup and the Moisture Therapy at night. Perhaps the combined effect was just too much for me but my skin has taken a turn for the worse. I have combination/oily skin prone to dehydration and sensitivity. Over the course of using these Olay products (and I'm not sure which one is the true culprit) I have developed several milia, congested and bumpy skin with redness and increased oiliness. The Complete with SPF 15 looks greasy under my foundation and I also find the perfume unappealing. I bought Olay against my better judgment because I didn't like it years ago but then the MUA reviews swayed me. I will not be repurchasing either moisturiser and have decided to use them as body products so that I don't feel I have totally wasted my money.

Moisturizers -Olay - Moisture Therapy Cream- Sensitive Skin [DISCONTINUED]
TrinaD 4/25/2007 1:08:00 AM
Having used Olay products before with poor results I was reluctant to give them another try. Based on the reviews at MUA I decided to give this moisturiser a go. I have been using it for about one month, just at night. My skin which is combination/oily and prone to dehydration and sensitivity has deteriorated in texture and appearance. I'm quite annoyed at the formation of several milia since starting this cream and my complexion in strong light is bumpy, congested and oily looking. My pores look large and obvious. I've also woken with a reddish face over the last week. More recently I had added Olay Complete with SPF 15 for day use and perhaps it is a case of Olay "overkill" but I'm ditching both products and going back to my Nivea Creme. I will never trust an Olay product on my skin again - on my face anyway. I think both of these moisturisers will be used as body products instead as they are not fit for my complexion.

Hair -Klorane - Dry shampoo
TrinaD 1/29/2007 8:02:00 AM
Having used this product I am convinced of one thing. If your hair is oily then it needs a shampoo and that may mean getting out of bed just that much earlier in the morning! Although this spray on "quick fix" helped to disguise oiliness it turned my hair ashen and just made me feel more conscious of the fact that I had added a powder coating over not so clean hair. I also disliked the smell intensely which was added punishment! I have a near full can taking up valuable space in my vanity so I think I'll go and toss it out right now!

Mascara -Maybelline - Sky High Curves Extreme Length and Curl [DISCONTINUED]
TrinaD 4/30/2006 8:28:00 AM
I'm rather happy with this mascara. It lengthens and darkens my lashes and if I use the correct application technique, I achieve a nice soft curl. The brush is well designed and coats lashes evenly. I like the darkest black shade in this product. I am having trouble removing it with an Avon eye makeup remover though, despite only using one coat. I would consider re-using it if I don't find a better alternative.

Eye Makeup Remover -Avon - Moisture effective Eye makeup remover
TrinaD 4/30/2006 7:54:00 AM
On a positive note, I was pleased that this product did not irritate my eyes. I've had a previous reaction to an Avon eyeliner pencil. Unfortunately it did not remove all of my mascara and I woke with dark smudges under my eyes. I'm currently using the waterproof Maybelline Sky High Curves mascara and have been disappointed with the residue following my evening eye cleanse. I wouldn't purchase this remover again but it was worth a try.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Professional Super Thick Lash Mascara
TrinaD 11/1/2005 1:38:00 AM
Initially I liked this mascara for the thick, black natural lash look it provided. After about one month of use though, I found that the tube got really messy around the rim with large blobs of mascara forming that either attached to the brush or fell off into the sink when I opened the top. I'm not one for tissuing off excess mascara from the tube as I don't think this should be necessary if the design is effective. The application also worsened towards the end of it's life (3 months). I found that it didn't apply evenly and left thick clumps in areas due to product overload on the brush. Sure, my lashes looked thicker but only because of the nasty looking excess layer that formed an obvious coating! Perhaps I just got one of those "bad tubes" that one reviewer referred to. Regardless, I've purchased a Maybelline mascara to see how I like it in my search for the perfect fit for my desired look.
