BB Cream -Garnier - BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector - Light/Medium
rated 2 of 5
Tramrak 3/16/2013 12:14:00 PM

i only tried a sample of this, so my review is not on this product's wear but really more on it's shade. this is now available in a "Fair/Light" shade, and i was excited to test it since all the BB creams available at the drugstore seem to be much too dark for my pale, NC15-20 skin. i was shocked when i squeezed this out and saw that the product was *literally* a muted orange color! when i blended this onto my face it did sheer out some but i still had a very significant pumpkin-colored veil over my skin. it was as if i had put on an orange color-corrective primer! so unfortunately, if you are NC20 or lighter, this will probably not work out for you (from my experience). as for the texture, it didn't seem hydrating at all (i have normal/dry skin and didn't have moisturizer on underneath) and dried quickly with no dewiness, almost exactly like an impossibly sheer, oil-free matte foundation. gave no coverage for me. i didn't want to give it a terrible rating because i didn't use it enough to properly and fully review it but the fact that something labeled "Fair" was made that orange is a shame. i'm going to try a Missha BB cream and will hopefully have better luck.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Mega Plush
rated 1 of 5
Tramrak 2/16/2013 4:08:00 PM

ahhh Maybelline The Mega Plush, how do i hate thee? let me count thy ways... first of all, the construction of this wand just *might be* the worst idea in mascara design yet. it is as if the wand is broken in half about 90% (like a snapped tree branch, or better yet, an elbow!) but is just hanging on enough to flop all over the place and give you no control when you're trying to apply. the brush/bristles, which look like they would provide nice rich color and good volume/separation, do neither even remotely. this is probably the most natural looking mascara i have ever tried, and believe me, i've tried 95% of low-end mascaras and 80% of high-end mascaras. it is almost impossible to get this brush to coat your lashes, yet somehow while it doesn't deliver enough product to evenly cover your lashes, it provides enough product to produce major clumps. the finished look of this is very miniscule, wimpy, barely there lashes that also manage to be clumpy. this mascara also kills the natural curl i have in my lashes to begin with, making them even MORE invisible! and to take the cake, this is the only non-waterproof mascara that i have ever had a problem removing. last night i washed my face with first my CeraVe foaming cleanser, then when that failed to remove this awful mascara i rinsed and washed again with a Clean and Clear cleanser, and when there was still mascara on my lashes, i dried my face off and had to get out my MAC Cleansing Oil to finally rid my face of this disaster. i can't imagine that the scientists and marketing team at Maybelline tested out this mascara and decided to mass produce it! a truly outstandingly horrible product. possibly the worst mascara i've ever owned. i would give this a zero if i could.

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - Studio 35 Beauty Blending Sponge (Collagen Infused)
rated 1 of 5
Tramrak 2/12/2013 10:00:00 PM

absolutely horrible, terribly worthless product. i am a HUGE fan of these Beauty Blender-type egg shaped blending sponges, especially since using one of them (the Sonia Kashuk turquoise Beauty Blender-dupe) provided me with perfectly applied, seamlessly blended foundation for the first time. Since i first bought the Sonia Kashuk version, and then loved it so much that i decided to buy the original pink Beauty Blender (but still ended up much preferring the SK version), i decided to give this one a try as well when i saw it at my local Walgreen's. from the packaging, which is a nice plastic shield around the bright pink, SK-shaped sponge, this looked like a great deal for $5.99, and curiosity always gets the best of me. I didn't think to open it up and feel the texture of the sponge, which was a big mistake. this might as well be a bright pink, egg shaped CONCRETE statue masquerading as a sponge. it is rock hard, and this is coming from someone who prefers the denser SK version to the much softer and more pliant Beauty Blender. it is so hard it was like trying to apply my foundation with something made of rock! absolutely no give whatsoever to the sponge, which makes it impossible to mold around your features and blend out your foundation as it is intended to do. secondly, the pointed end of this sponge is cut in a really awful and unusable way, seeing as how the point is too dull and too shallow to even get near places like the corners of your nose and around the eyes. it could never work to do detail work the way the other 2 sponges i've mentioned can, and one of the reasons these sponges are indispensable is because you can do every inch of your face in seconds without missing one spot thanks to the ability to cover big and small spaces alike. i hardly ever return things, especially if they're under $10, but this is going back ASAP. don't be fooled by the price, it may be $6 but it's completely unusable. spend a few more dollars on the Sonia Kashuk blending sponge for $10.50 and enjoy the world of flawless foundation.

Lip Treatments -eos - Lip Balm Sphere - Sweet Mint
rated 5 of 5
Tramrak 6/30/2012 5:26:00 PM

i ADORE this balm. it's a thinner balm, so it's perfect for when you're hair's down and you don't want it getting stuck in your gloss or your heavier balms. despite it's thinner quality, it's quite moisturizing, and i adore the flavor of it. i love anything mint and this is mint with a very subtle sweetness to it and i just love it! the shape of the balm makes it very easy to apply, although i can see how this will become extremely troublesome once you've used the balm down to where it's flat and will require you to scoop it out. i actually don't know how i would like that, it would probably be a mess and a real pain in the butt, so i'm going to take my rating down to a 2 for packaging. i know they packaged it in a sphere to be different and eye-catching but you do first have to think of practicality. i would purchase this again, depending on how troublesome it is once the roundness of the balm is worn flat. but for a light, moisturizing, lovely lip balm, you can't go wrong with this one. i had to have my mother send it to me from Pittsburgh, PA because the only flavors i can ever find here in Portland, OR are the pink/reddish ones.

Shampoo -Suave - Scalp Solutions Invigorating Mint & Eucalyptus Anti-Dandruff Shampoo
rated 2 of 5
Tramrak 6/29/2012 2:28:00 PM

i have luckily been a person who has never had a problem with dandruff in her whole life. however, i do switch around my shampoos and conditioners a lot, and i have a feeling that one specific shampoo may be drying out my scalp. it's a Neutrogena shampoo called Clean Replenishing Shampoo, and i had picked it up since i only wash my hair about once a week because it doesn't get oily and washing it more just dries it out. so my thinking was, if i'm going to be washing only once a week, i better get something that can really tackle the product build-up and oil and etc. well, i really like the Neutrogena shampoo, but i feel like it was around that time that i started using it that my friend starting looking through my hair and noticing some little flakes right at the crown of my head. i thought, no big deal, i'll just pick up a dandruff shampoo (something i'd never used, so it was a rookie buy) and since they all seemed to have similar ingredients and i like anything that's minty, i chose this Suave shampoo. now i've been washing the back of my hair with this shampoo, primarily from my crown down to the nape, and i'm not seeing any differences in the flakes, except that my girlfriend seems to think they're getting worse. although i really like the texture, scent, feeling, and cleansing ability of this Suave shampoo, i'm going to have to give it a no-go on doing what it's made to do. it has not taken care of my dry scalp flakes at all. hopefully it works for someone else, because it's inexpensive and decently made.

Eyeliner -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Liner - Black
rated 4 of 5
Tramrak 6/28/2012 3:22:00 PM

WHOA. all you people searching for the darkest inky carbon black liquid liner you have always been dreaming of? here it is, featured prominently in your local grocery store or pharmacy. this is BLACK in a shocking way, and i love it. i am not the best person at doing eyeliner (i'm better at doing it on my right eye, because i'm using my my right hand, but the left eye is always troublesome, even though i'm still using my right hand, oh i don't know you must all somehow understand what i mean) so what i do is use my NYX Skinny Marker liquid liner, do my line, let it dry, and then trace over it with this. This W'n'W liner has a very, very skinny, fine brush that you dip in a well. Only improvement i could suggest is that they thin the brush so it comes to a point instead of ending bluntly. Now, i'm just wearing this through normal daily activities, not UFC fighting or synchronized swimming, so i don't know how it would hold up under serious pressure but for your everyday life, it lasts til i wash it off at night (and it washes off easily). So give this a try, you def won't be disappointed in the color if you're looking for the blackest black. **edit** just a quick note, because of the bluntness of the brush (or my ineptitude) i am unable to use this on it's own because i just can not get it to a crisp point at the end. any suggestions of how to do this? help would be appreciated.

Misc Beauty Tools -Clarisonic - Mia
rated 3 of 5
Tramrak 6/20/2012 4:00:00 PM

now, i've waited a looooong time to review this product because i wanted to give it a really accurate review. i got my Mia for my birthday a year and a half ago, and it was adorable; pale yellow and even inscribed with my name! i was so excited about the change that i hoped i would see in my skin that so many others had been talking about seeing in their skin. now, i have always been a person who exfoliates, and i usually just use a washcloth with my cleanser-of-the-moment and that does a perfectly good job. but i was thinking that those Clarisonic vibrations were going to buzz out all kinds of deep-seeded impurities from my skin, helping to even my skintone, prevent breakouts and clogged pores, etc. i didn't think it would make my skin perfect but i did expect it to do what it claims to do. once i started using my Mia, i found out a few things the hard way: 1. if you're using a cleanser with acne ingredients or are using acne products like salicylic acid or god forbid retinols or AHAs, avoid those areas or be extremely gentle when you're using your Mia. also, don't press the Mia into your skin, i have/had a really bad habit of doing that and it's unnecessary and actually detrimental. it overexfoliates your skin and leaves it sore. so, for the best result, what i do is i first remove my eyeliner, mascara, foundation, etc. with one first quick wash with my cleanser and my hands. then, i use my cleanser again and use it with my Mia. i put a dot of cleanser on the Mia and rub it around until it foams up, and then i gently touch the Mia to my face, just kind of circling around until i get every spot of my face. i do actually push a little bit on the side of my nose, not elsewhere. i also use a low-grade prescription Retinol on my chin and around it, and i'm just extra careful to be quick and gentle on that area. so here's my dilemma: would i buy the Mia again (i received it as a gift but you know what i mean) were something to happen to it? NO. it's a nice tool to have and use but it is not necessary in any way to own a Mia to keep your skin exfoliated. You could use a scrub, a washcloth, or even a cheapie plastic skin brush like the one i picked up at the Dollar Store which is basically just like a gentler oversized circular toothbrush that you use to brush over your skin and get the same results. maybe if you're the type of person who's never done anything but wash your face with your hands and has never exfoliated, you might see a miracle when you first use your Mia. but if i can get that same miracle with a washcloth, why waste the money? i do think it's a good product just not really a necessity. if you have the money to blow and are really curious, go for it. if you're hardcore lusting after a Mia and affording one is not going to happen for you, take solace in the fact that you can get the same results with a washcloth. you're not missing much ;)

Eyeliner -NYX - Super Skinny & Super Fat Eye Marker
rated 4 of 5
Tramrak 6/1/2012 4:44:00 AM

i bought this Skinny liquid eyeliner pen because A. i'm most adept at using a felt-tipped Sharpie style liquid liner than i am at using regular liquid liner or even my MAC Fluidlines B. i had just run out of my first favorite (felt-tipped) style of liquid eyeliner which was made by Styli-Style and couldn't find the brand again near me to save my life and C. i wasn't ready to shell out for the Smashbox Limitless liquid e/l that i had my eye on (ended up getting that later anyways). i adore this NYX e/l, you can get super, super, super close to your lashline and even in between little gaps if you need to because of the extra fine tip. you can use it for a very subtle look or you can do the whole winged out thing and it looks gorgeous either way! i also have pigmentation on my eyelids (like dark circles but all the way around-- lucky me!) and so i have to put a light layer of foundation over my eyelids and this doesn't mess up the application of my NYX Skinny Marker at all. if i could have one tiny gripe, i do think it could be a *little teensy* bit blacker, because i like a really deep, carbon black opacity for liquid liners. I would (and will) repurchase this as soon as it runs out.

Cleansers -Simple - Kind to Skin Refreshing Wash Gel
rated 5 of 5
Tramrak 6/1/2012 4:31:00 AM

ever since i began to notice the Simple brand's products arriving at my local grocery store and Walgreen's, i've been interested in trying the brand. Since i have used Cerave Foaming Face Cleanser (excellent, HG product in it's own right) for a few years now, i decided to try a new cleanser, and went with this one. it's in a standard tube, which i don't really like, would much prefer a pump, but oh well. this review is hasty because i used the cleanser for the first time tonight and i usually wait atleast a few weeks after using a product to review it, but this cleanser seems really nice. it's made for sensitive skin, so it doesn't have any dyes, fragrances, or harsh detergents, plus it has B5 vitamins that claim to soften your skin. the face wash is very concentrated, so when i used the amount i usually use of other products, it took a while to rinse away all the suds, but the cleanser left my face feeling dewy, soft, and not at all tight. i also used it with my Clarisonic Mia and it worked perfectly with that as well. I will continue using, and update if anything changes. here is a link to Simple's website for you to check out their products: http://www.simpleskincare.com/ *edit: i've continued using this cleanser and still feel the same about it. it cleanses thoroughly w/o stripping skin and leaves your face feeling nice and soft instead of parched and begging for moisturizer. a great cleanser at a great price, just remember, you only need a small amount of the product to wash your face.

Concealers -Revlon - PhotoReady Concealer SPF 20
rated 5 of 5
Tramrak 1/27/2012 8:30:00 PM

this is an *EXCELLENT* high-coverage concealer. i took a chance on this one day at the drugstore just because it looked like it would provide good coverage and i was right. the way i use this concealer is to go over the darkest parts of my undereye circles (the ring right under the eye, the inner corner and outer corner, and right below the bottom lashline) after i've already used my foundation lightly over the whole undereye area. so this is my second step in concealing the darkness that i have around my eyes. now granted, i'm not dealing with your average slight darkness around the eyes, i'm half Irish and half Lebanese so my skincolor is an extremely pale NC15-20 and yet i have super dark, blueish-purplish-red circles that go completely AROUND my eyes. so if you just have run-of-the-mill dark circles, this concealer alone would more than do the job for you, but for me, it's an extra step on top of my foundation that really makes a huge difference. the concealer comes in a stick but unlike a lot of other stick concealers, it's not dry but very creamy and glides on effortlessly. it also blends with the gentlest tap tap tap of my ring finger and any imperfection is perfectly- and NATURALLY- covered. it is a dream come true!!! this concealer also works WONDERS on red spots and blemishes; i especially like it for a blemish that's healing and might be a little scabby or dry or uneven surfaced, and in this case i take a small, stiff makeup brush, tap it against the surface of the concealer, and then stipple it onto the blemish. it just works wonderfully and looks totally natural. i use the shade Light Pale 002 and it works perfectly with my pale, NC 15-20 complexion. i just don't have enough great things to say about this concealer-- it's a godsend! if you have anything that needs concealed in a natural looking, non-cakey way, give this one a try! *EDIT* had to add this after reading some others reviews-- mine has not a TRACE of glitter in it. i would NEVER wear anything with glitter in it but eyeshadow and even then it has to be super fine shimmer. i wonder if it's like the Photoready Foundation, others loved it and said theirs had no glitter and mine was a glitter bomb. oh well, just remember as you're reading these reviews that not all of them are glittery, mine is as non-glittery any other concealer, and i adore it's perfect, brightening coverage.

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Lots of Lashes
rated 4 of 5
Tramrak 11/16/2011 3:17:00 PM

i feel like a traitor even writing this review, but only because i have always haaaated all forms of Great Last mascara. i was even somewhat excited when they came out with Great Lash BIG because i thought maybe with a different brush i would see what all the love was about, but that big brush didn't make a bit of difference to me in how totally blah the product made my lashes look. however, i am a sucker, and i was very intrigued by the construction of the brush for this newest addition to the Great Lash line, so i gave in and bought it, almost sure it would get relegated to the 'never use again' bin. but.... i really like it! first of all, like all the other Great Lash mascaras, the Very Black CANNOT be beat in terms of color saturation and deep, sooty, decadent BLACKness. i'm pretty sure (but not completely) that the actual mascara is the same as all the other versions, but it must be because of the genius brush that it can coat my lashes from root to tip in utter blackness w/o getting specks of mascara around my eyes and without weighing my lashes down. now, if there is one thing i'm FANATICAL about, it is curled eyelashes-- i do just about everything possible to make my lashes long and curled (Latisse, heated eyelash curler, Talika Lipocils, etc), so if a mascara weighs down my curl or doesn't hold it, it's out the door in a nanosecond. the truly unbelievable thing about this mascara is that it curls my lashes on it's OWN just during application. now i don't mean my usual, curled straight up to the ceiling lash look, but it actually lifts my lashes (WITH NO LASH CURLER USED) and makes them visible and cute looking! a kind of natural curl, unlike my regular super-dramatic curl. lately with my schedule, school, and just an overall tiredness i haven't been feeling like doing my whole ten minute lash curling routine in the morning, and this mascara came in at the perfect moment to give me some time off from that. now, speaking of it holding a curl from a lash curler, it does that well also, as i have tested it out when i had more time. as for performance, it doesn't flake, doesn't smear, doesn't run, doesn't weigh lashes down, washes off easily with regular cleanser and leaves lashes in a healthy condition. the brush is just genius at separating your lashes and getting even the teensiest inner ones coated because it tapers to a very thin point at the tip, and the thicker part is amazing at getting each and every longer lash evenly coated w/o overdoing it. i just can't believe how much i love this mascara, and wanted to give it it's due applause :)

Foundations -Tarte - Amazonian Clay 12-hour Full-Coverage Foundation SPF 15
rated 5 of 5
Tramrak 11/13/2011 11:07:00 PM

excellent product! happy to say that i took a gamble ordering this from QVC, guessing on my color which is always iffy, and it turned out to be a great decision. i'm somewhere between an NC15 and an NC20 depending on the time of year it is, and i ordered this in Light, which is *perfect*. i would advise that if you're thinking of trying this in the Fair, you had better be sure you're Nicole Kidman-pale or PALER. the Light blends seamlessly with my skin, and when i say seamlessly i mean i can put it in one spot (like redness on my cheek) and skip applying it in an adjacent spot, and you can never tell there's a place where the makeup starts or stops. i have to admit, although the brush that comes with this from QVC is a beautifully made, soft, full brush, i've never used it to apply the foundation, instead i prefer to use the Sonia Kashuk knock-off of the Beauty Blender sponge (speaking of which, i bought the Beauty Blender eventually and *STILL* prefer my SK version!). anyways, i can certainly use the brush with something else like power or bronzer, and the deal for a great foundation in a good amount and a lovely brush at $34 is unbeatable. as for the foundation itself, i adore it. it has an SPF of 15 (woohoo!), i would say it's a medium to fuller coverage, and can be easily built for more coverage on areas that need it. i have completely given up using concealer on my VERY dark, all-around-my-eyes hereditary dark circles because using this Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation layered a tiny bit on my circles not only covers them but keeps the area looking natural and not cakey and layered with heavy makeup. i also use this as an all-over foundation lightly when i need it, to cover red marks and blemishes, and to do all the other things a foundation is meant to do. i have waited several months (atleast 4 or 5) before reviewing this to make sure that i truly love it and the jury's out-- this foundation is a great buy. my skin is normal to very, very slightly oily in the chin and forhead and this foundation doesn't seem to dry out my normal areas or make my slightly oil prone areas more oily. it wears well, lasts all day, looks ok when topped with some of my Laura Mercier translucent powder, and doubles as an undereye concealer. what more could you ask for in a foundation?! i do have to say that when you use it for the first time, it seems heavy coming out of the tube, but it doesn't apply heavily and sheers out as soon as you begin to put it on. my favorite way of applying is with my Sonia Kashuk beauty blender knock-off, using a small amount of foundation and a tap, tap, tap method of smoothing it over my skin. all around a great product, just be careful with the color you choose unless you are really, really beyond translucent pale with the Fair shade. i would gladly repurchase :) ***6/29/12*** i'm just updating to say that i am still ADORING this foundation and STILL using it everysingledayofmylife!!!!! this is definitely my HG foundation, i've had it and been using it for SEVEN STRAIGHT MONTHS and i am still absolutely in love with it, and i still have plenty left. since it is thicker and full coverage, you just need the smallest amount to cover a section of your face. i just can't give this product enough credit/love. i haven't bought a foundation since this (i think, i may have fallen prey to my makeup-obsessive ways and picked up one or two but i don't think so) which in my case is crazy! just updating to say still using, loving, and thanking Maureen Kelly for having her chemists create such an outstanding product! ***8/01/12*** STILL using same tube, still have a lot left, and still ADORING THIS PRODUCT! true HG material. a phenomenal product.

Eyeliner -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Eyes Defining Marker - Blackest Black
rated 2 of 5
Tramrak 11/12/2011 5:09:00 PM

such a disappointment :( there are a lot of W'n'W products that i looooove (the 648 Taupe eyeliner pencil is my HG for brows, their All Over Shimmer 832D highlighter was the best highlighter i've ever owned in my whole life, i have no idea WHY they would EVER discontinue it when it was such a cult favorite) and so i'm always game for trying new W'n'W products. i decided to try their version of the marker-style liquid eyeliner because i fell madly in love with Styli-Style's Nano Liner 24 in Carbon Black (not to be confused with their regular, longer version which sucks, the Nano Liner is smaller) and i can no longer find it at the grocery store closest to my house, so i looked to W'n'W for a replacement. Unfortunately, no dice. while the shape, length, and tip of the liner is good, the color is VERY weak and un-pigmented. at best it comes out a soft black/medium dark grey, and when i want to do a winged eyeliner look, i want super dark opaque black that stands out and makes a powerful statement. it should LOOK like opaque, shiny, black paint until it dries to an equally dark, matte finish, and instead this actually looks like the line a kindergartener's black marker (and not a fresh one) would make on a piece of paper. anyways, i guess if you're looking for a softer, milder version of a black liquid marker style liner than this might be good for you, but if you want the traditional, opaque, Marilyn Monroe look, this is not the one. i guess i'll keep on looking, or just order my Styli-Style Nano Liner 24 from somewhere online.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous False Fiber Lashes
rated 1 of 5
Tramrak 10/12/2011 6:53:00 PM

absolutely horrendous product! shockingly bad. first of all, when i opened up the package and pulled out the mascara wand, it looked like an old, gummed up mascara that had been sitting around for a year or two. i have actually thrown away many mascaras that are 2+ years old that have been in better condition than this product was upon first opening! the next thing i immediately noticed was that the color (and i purchased Blackest Black, which i always do) was a very dull, muted gray which was so blah i was stunned! i decided to curl my lashes and apply to see what the application was like and it was just as disappointing as the texture and color. it left my lashes clumpy, stuck together and spidery looking. all this in a lovely shade of puke gray! L'oreal is always talked about as the frontrunner of drugstore mascara brands and while there are many L'oreal mascaras i like and would repurchase, this is certainly NOT one of them. purchase at your own risk, advisably somewhere with a good return policy-- that's another thing, i am not a big believer in buying makeup and then returning it because you didn't like it, it's not something i do more than once a year, but i actually did return this to get my $8 back. just plain awful.
