Treatments -Giovanni - Vitapro Fusion Leave-In Hair Treatment
Timarie 10/30/2009 5:40:00 PM
We are into our 3rd bottle of this spray. It works beautifully on both my hair and my daughter's. I don't use hair conditioner. After the wash, I just spray a few spritzes, comb through and then blow dry. It detangles and adds shine and softness without making my hair greasy. My hair hangs much better after blowdrying with this on. I know because for the past 2 months I've used other organic products on my hair and it ended up looking too dry, too greasy and out of shape.

Liquid -Real Purity - Real Purity Health Glow Foundation
Timarie 12/26/2008 8:39:00 PM
I'm using the sample and really like the whipped cream like light texture. You do have to moisturize your skin before applying this. However, once I have it on (using my fingers), it sets nicely on its own and I do not have to set with loose powder. One less step and one less product on my face! My skin looks healthy and pores look smaller with the Real Purity Health Glow Foundation on. I look better without looking made up. I haven't had photos taken with it yet, but I'll be happy to get the full-size for a daily foundation. I'm LM cross btw Warm Ivory and Sunny Beige and I'm using "light beige" for Real Purity.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Devita Optimal Rejuvenation Serum
Timarie 8/20/2008 5:24:00 PM
I've only used this serum for a little over a week, and have already noticed improvements in my complexion (even tho' I've been lacking sleep!). The texture of my skin is smoother and more refined. Even my husband noticed and commented on it. This serum is not heavy, but moisturizing enough for me to use alone at night. There is almost no scent in it, which works well, as my other half has a very sensitive nose and cannot tolerate even a very mild scent. Lastly, I like it that they use a glass bottle. Will definitely purchase again, I got mine from eBay. Just wish it is available in local stores.

Mascara -Unlisted Brand - Zuzu Luxe - Thickening Mascara
Timarie 2/19/2008 9:05:00 PM
Update on August 31, 2009: It is now available in Canada, at a much higher price tag than in the US. Unfortunately, the newly packaged one that I'm using (which has a silver cap instead of the old black cap) has a texture just like the Gabriel mascara. It's thin and instead of holding the curl, it STRAIGTENS my freshly-curled eyelashes... very irritating. The brush is also different from my old Zuzuluxe Volume mascara. I find this new Zuzuluxe mascara useless and disappointing! Zuzuluxe is not available for retail in Canada, so I had to special-order and it ended up being twice the price of what one would pay in the US. I had at first purchased Gabriel's Mascara and not happy with that one, because it wouldn't hold any curl on my lashes (straightened all the curl that I put on the lashes with the lash-curler). I emailed Gabriel Cosmetics and they suggested that I tried Zuzuluxe. They are right, the Zuzuluxe Mascara was much better. As an organice, non-toxix mascara, it gives reasonable volume, it holds the curl and lasts really well through the day. It is not water-proof, but it does NOT smear or smudge, even through a short nap or a few tears. Easy to remove at the end of the day. It doesn't lengthen like my favourite Anna Sui Waterproof Mascara, but it's healthier and I'm happy to have it for daily use. Will pull out the Anna Sui just for special occasions, as that one is hard to remove.

Mascara -Sukí - Rich Pigment Mascara
Timarie 2/19/2008 8:56:00 PM
According to Suki's website, this Mascara is supposed to be " a dream mascara. this 100% natural, non-clumping, non-smearing formula has a way of making even the sparest lashes look movie star full and magazine-spread glossy. coats each individual lash with a 100% pure rich pigment, leaving them dramatically full and luxuriously long." What a GREAT disappointment. While I know we cannot take the marketing script too seriously, I did expect some level of utility from the price tag of $31.50. As it turns out: Volume - Nil Length - Nil Movie Star lashes - Nil ( A joke!) Clumps - lots Flakes, Smudges and Smears - non-stop through the day This is the most useless makeup item I have purchased in years. Will go back to Zuzuluxe which is, not perfect, but much better than this one. For an organic mascara, Zuzuluxe gives reasonable volume and DOES NOT flake or smudge. Both are easy to remove at the end of the day.

Hair Styling Tools -GHD - IV Styler (all sizes)
Timarie 11/4/2007 1:48:00 PM
Most other reviewers have already mentioned all the good things about this styler/flat iron. For me, since I got this, I have not been using my Solia Tourmaline at all. (Solia gives more shine IMO, but the straightened hair doesn't feel as soft. It also does not heat up as fast). GHD heats up superfast and doesn't fry my hair at all. Whether one says it requires repeat swipes needs to consider the speed at which you pass it over your hair. Med-low speed works best for me, but everyone has a different hair texture. I'm traveling to Asia soon, so the dual voltage is perfect. The GHD styler is, however, very expensive. If you cannot afford a GHD, Solia is actually a close second in performance. My hairstylist uses CHI on my hair everytime but I was never that impressed with the way my hair looked and felt with the CHI. Anyway, if you don't mind coughing up $240 for a flat iron, definitely get the GHD!

Mascara -Unlisted Brand - Zuzu Luxe - Thickening Mascara
Timarie 11/4/2007 1:29:00 PM
I tried the Gabriel Mascara first (same manufacturer. pls see my separate review) but have to say I'm much happier with the Zuzu Luxe Mascara. It gives my lashes more body and holds the curls reasonably well. Like the Gabriel, it also DOESN"T SMUDGE on my eyes all day (while most other mascaras - except waterproof ones - smudge on my eyes easily). At the end of the day, it is, however, very easy to remove. I use a cotton pad soaked with warm water to wipe gently, and it comes all off. I will continue to use this one until I find a better natural/non-toxic mascara. If you know of one which gives body... holds curls...lengthens... is smudge-proof and can be easily removed... pls let me know! It is Organic and Vegan. Here is the ingredients list: Deionized Water, Carnuba Wax, Stearic Acid, Panthenol, Tocopherol Acetate, Iron Oxides, Ultramarines, Cellulose Gum, Grapeseed Extract.

Powder -Laura Mercier - Mineral Powder SPF 15
Timarie 10/11/2007 1:43:00 AM
I've been using Jane Iredale Pure Pressed for over a year and was fairly happy. I tried Every Minerals and it wasn't very long-lasting (and my skin is not super oily). Tried Young Blood which was too shiny and made my pores look big. I love Laura Mercier's Primer, liquid and silk creme foundation and powders, and finally got to try this mineral powder... I LOVE it! Yes, it has better coverage and more if not equal staying power compared to JI. It's also extremely SILKY smooth and refined, just like all the other LM powders. I haven't used it with the mineral primer yet and can already see the improvement from before (using the JI) -- even my husband can tell. Price is also very reasonable for the amount of product you get In Canada I am paying $10 less for a whole tub of LM compared to the JI compact. And as many reviewers have mentioned, the container is great. I only open two or three holes at a time and can close all the holes when traveling. The pigment of this mineral foundation is very concentrated. You really should use sparingly. Can't wait to get the mineral primer and use them together...

Mascara -Unlisted Brand - Gabriel Color Mascara
Timarie 10/2/2007 4:57:00 PM
In my search for a more healthy/natural mascara, I came across some reviews and forum posts on the internet that recommended Gabriel. My primary concern is staying power. Mascara smudges easily on my eyes in general and I'm used to wearing only waterproof ones. The Gabriel Mascara turned out to be a pleasant surprise. No smudging under normal circumstances, through the day, even after a little bit of crying, as long as I do not rub my eyes. I'm really happy with it's durability, combined with the ease of removal (just with a cotton pad soaked with warm water). The only disappointment is that it does not hold a curl! I will curl my eye lashes day after day before putting this on. Within a few swipes of the mascara on my lashes, my lashes go straight again. I don't know if it's the problem with their brush or the formula. It helps when I apply the mascara first, let it dry, then curl. But that's too time-consuming and messy. Anyway, if you have naturally curly lashes and want a natural-based mascara to give it smooth long-lasting colour without clumps, then you should like it.

Conditioner -Unlisted Brand - Prairie Naturals - Mountain Mist Conditioning Spray
Timarie 8/20/2007 1:59:00 PM
I was looking for a natural-based conditioning / heat protecting spray as I use the hairdryer and flat iron regularly (tho' both of them are ceramic). Bought this and the Giovanni Vitapro Fusion Leave-In Hair Treatment Spray together for comparison. I am not impressed with the PN Mountain Mist. My hair definitely felt and looked "coated" as well as a little dull. I used the Prairie Naturals on one side and Giovanni on the other side of my head. Even my husband could tell that the PN side was greasier. I have returned this and kept the Giovanni, which is much lighter and made my hair look and feel silky, shiny, and soft with movement. The only reason I don't give this one star is that people who have very thin hair (I have rather thick hair with layers) might like it for "boosting" the volume.

Powder -Cinema Secrets - Micro Fine Loose
Timarie 6/21/2007 3:46:00 PM
A excellent translucent powder (turly no-colour) for setting foundation. Very finely milled. I used to use Laura Mercier only, but have tested this with LM Trans. powder side by side and even like the Cinema Secrets powder better! It virtually disappears after applying, just leaving a light matt smooth finish. Great great price for a wonderful product!

Blush -Jane Iredale - Pure Pressed Blush
Timarie 10/21/2006 4:36:00 PM
This is a review of Dubonnet. I bought it based on the reviews here. The colour of the Dubonnet is very neutral so I cannot imagine it being offensive to any skin tone. However, it's just too understated and does not show on my LM WarmIvory-SunnyBeige-mixed skintone. I tried it on my sister's LM BlushIvory complexion and it doesn't show either. I've also got Whisper which I love - much prettier IMO.

Skincare - Face -Cinema Secrets - Moisture Spray
Timarie 9/4/2006 5:34:00 PM
Terrific. Terrific. Terrific!!! As a finishing spray, it can keep your Make-up for long hours through heat and sweats. Even the eye shadows do not crease. Amazing. It can also be sprayed onto the foundation brush or sponge to make the application of cream foundation easier. I've also got the Ben Nye Final Seal. However, not sure if it's because of the bottle design or the ingredients, the spray nozzle of the Final Seal often get clogged, causing the liquid to come out in squirts (uneven) as opposed to mist. The nozzle of the CS Moisture Spray never has this problem. The product always comes out in a fine mist that's easy to apply evenly. I love this Moisture Spray and will highly recommend it!

Eye Shadow -Jane Iredale - eye shadow in Dark Suede
Timarie 7/18/2006 2:35:00 AM
I'm reviewing Dark Suede as an excellent eyeliner. Most eyeliners (except Chanel cakeliner and LM cakeliner) smudge on me. This one stays just as well as the Chanel and LM. I wet my angled eyeliner brush, pick up a bit of the Dark Suede, and apply it at the base of my upper lashes. It gives me a well-defined look without being too intense. Again, it doesn't smudge ALL DAY until I remove it. Will highly recommend!
