Lotions/ Creams -Eucerin - Aquaphor Healing Ointment
TibbyCanoe 4/22/2012 10:15:00 PM
Genius. This product is indispensable. I have used it for a variety of reasons to name a few: on my face after chemical peels, if Retin A dries out my skin in the winter, on my lips when chapped - or just as lip gloss, in my nose and lips when running in the winter to prevent chapping and on my hands and feet when they get dry. I just put it on at night and in the morning everything is better. This stuff has magical healing powers. I have containers all over the place. Don't be scared to use it on your face, I am acne prone but rub it straight on there. Its never broken me out. It feels greasy at first but then it just sinks in and does its thing. It's slightly pricey for something purchased from a drug store but a container lasts forever. A little goes a long way. A+

Concealers -BeneFit Cosmetics - Erase paste
TibbyCanoe 4/15/2012 10:01:00 PM
This is a great product. I put it on under foundation or over it - depending on the effect I want. It's very light in texture but amazingly effective for brightening up the eye area and correcting any dark circles. I like to use it on my eyelids as a primer for my eye shadow. The little scoop thing that comes with it is fairly useless and has now disappeared forever (who has the patience to locate that thing?) - however the pot itself is awesome. I just apply it with my finger. A container will last for months.

Gels/Soaps -Neutrogena - Body Clear Body Wash - Pink Grapefruit
TibbyCanoe 4/15/2012 9:53:00 PM
This stuff smells like grapefruit for sure, more bitter than citrus refreshing - but it's better than a medicine smell!! I have keratosis pilaris on my arms, it's very mild but it is bothersome, even though it only comes and goes. My dermatologist has told me that I could treat it with Retin A - but my Retin A product is WAY to expensive to rub all over the backs of my arms. So, I gave this a try assuming if you could treat it with Retin A - you could also treat it with salicylic acid. I don't think the beads exfoliate but the SA does that chemically for you. I loofa first so that it will sink in and then use it from head to toe. I must say, I do see a definite improvement with the KP. I think the result makes my skin on the rest of my body look more luminous, which is good because dry skin on the legs is nothing anybody wants to look at. I moisturize after I get out of the shower and voila, my limbs are ready to face the world.

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Night Calming Cleansing Wipes
TibbyCanoe 4/15/2012 9:36:00 PM
Easy and effective. I use them to take off my makeup before i get into the shower. This is the first of these all in one type wipes I've ever used. I typically have sensitive skin and I have not noticed the burning that others have. Quite possibly because also wash my face in the shower with the Clarisonic, so presumably I am getting off the residue.

Cleansers -Skinceuticals - Clarifying cleanser
TibbyCanoe 4/13/2012 6:31:00 PM
First of all this review is for Skinceuticals PURIFYING Cleanser with Glycolic acid, which is the world's best cleanser if you have sensitive skin and use Retin A. The Glycolic brightens you up, and will also help you with breakouts without drying you out. I use a Clarisonic, which is so wonderful but when I wasn't using the magical Clarisonic device I would let the cleanser sit on my skin for 1 minute or so like the package says. The Clarisonic by it's nature makes sure the cleanser is massaged on there for a minute anyway. It's like a little mini-facial every day. The only reason I don't stock pile this stuff is that it's $35ish a container, which I think is a lot to spend on a product that doesn't stay on your face very long. Plus, I get it from my dermatologist and sometimes you need it and run out before I can get there. So, I may cheat on my favorite and go to the drugstore - but I always go back. I don't know why Makeup Alley doesn't have a category for it, but you should check it out. (FYI I only gave it a 3 for it's packaging because i don't really care for a face wash with a pump - even though most cleansers made have one on it. It makes travelling around with it difficult because you have to pump some of the stuff out to pack it, or move some of it into a smaller container. It's just a pet peeve of mine, but otherwise the packaging is fine).

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Oil-Free Acne Wash
TibbyCanoe 4/13/2012 6:10:00 PM
I agree with the other reviewers who say this product will dry out skin. There must be ingredient in here besides the salycilic acid that does it. Salycilic acid is a good anti acne ingredient if you HAVE skin that's easily irritated and I have used it in other products, no problems. I suppose if you are looking for something to soak up oil like a sponge - this could do the trick. HOWEVER, if your skin is remotely sensitive, it will suck up oil like a LEECH and leave an itchy red rash in its place. I wash my face in the shower from forehead to chest, and I had red itchy blotches on my neck and on my face. I couldn't figure out what the problem was. I even changed laundry detergent because I thought it was my sheets and towels, but then it occurred to me, I changed my face wash. I threw away the face wash and the rash went away in a few days. I have used salycilic acid in other cleansers and it doesn't bother me - it's got to be some other drying out or irritating agent.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Ziana
TibbyCanoe 1/24/2012 4:21:00 PM
In reading the bad reviews on this product, I am wondering whether you listened to your dermatologist when she explained the potential side effects of Retin A to you, and also explained that when using Retin A products it will take a while before you will see a result. I like Ziana because I am already adjusted to Retin A. Retin A in general, both works on adult acne and wrinkles, and just makes adult skin look better by causing old skin cells to die and regenerate at a faster rate. I am not a dermatologist so I can't say whether Ziana may be best for only mild acne, or whether it will work on severe or cystic acne or whether you may need something else in conjunction, something stronger, etc. BUT what makes Ziana special (at least to me) and potentially to the Retin A initiated . . . it is far less irritating than traditional Retin products - prescription and non. That does not mean that you will get no irritation when you first start using it. I think the limited irritation has something to do with the clidamyacin base, as opposed to an alcohol base. I have tried other Retin A prescriptions and can say this gives you the least redness and flaking and for this reason it is indispensible. The only drawbacks to the product are the packaging, which truly sucks; and the price, which is way too high for the manufacturers to not consider a sensible container.

Liquid -Giorgio Armani - Luminous Silk Foundation
TibbyCanoe 11/22/2011 3:36:00 PM
I was very skeptical about all the hype with this product. This stuff seems to have won every magazine beauty editors award ever. I just assumed Armani had some really good PR reps. However, I was in search for a good foundation for years and could never find anything just right. So, I decided to take the plunge. I prefer a liquid foundation - because I like a soft, dewy finish - and I think only a liquid foundation can deliver that. The beauty in this foundation is that it's buildable. Use a little and it's still possible to see your skin underneath (as if you are make-up free but in really good lighting :)). For evenings or just occasions where you want to look more "made up" just apply more, you'll still look natural - not overdone or like some kind of wax figure. The only drawback is the price, but like most things in life - you get what you pay for. Enjoy!

Treatments -Skinceuticals - Phloretin CF
TibbyCanoe 9/8/2011 2:21:00 PM
It works. It's simply da bomb. It doesn't irritate my skin which is very sensitive. It does not cause breakouts. I have been using this product along with Clarisonic to help the good stuff sink in. It takes a while before you notice the results, but don't give up. I am very diligent about my skin care, so it may take a little longer for those not as obsessed. I have some brown spots on my face that my friends swear are not all that noticeable but about which I am constantly trying to address. Within 30 days this stuff has gradually, but noticeably reduced them to a level never before seen after 2 courses of Obagi, 3 chemical (lunchtime) peels, 8 years of Retin-A, and hydroquinone all combined. In addition to the fact that my complexion is so even, I have also noticed that it seems to be glowing in general. I CAN HARDLY BELIEVE IT. Give it 45 days and feel no shame in investing the cash. It will make a believer of you.
