Lips -Cover Girl - Natureluxe Gloss Balm in Cabernet
rated 4 of 5
ThisGirl0 4/14/2011 9:55:00 PM

I received this product yesterday and only gave it a try...didn't actually wear it outside of the house. It is surprisingly sheer and goes on like a balm instead of lipstick, like I thought it was going to be. The color is very deep red in packaging, but on the lips it can go much lighter. It does not feel heavy at all...it's basically a tinted balm in stick form. The packaging is cute and I like that it clicks. I also really like the scent of this product. I would not purchase this particular shade because I am just not overly into red lips...plus my lips are naturally similar to this shade (though a little bit lighter). I would definitely try a different shade though if it's cheap (not sure about the retail price).

Foundations -Cover Girl - Natureluxe Liquid Silk Foundation
rated 4 of 5
ThisGirl0 4/14/2011 9:46:00 PM

Just received this product yesterday so I decided to give it a try today. I got the shade 310, which is a good match for me. I am not big on CG foundations, but since this was free, it couldn't hurt to try. I have also recently noticed that sponge application for foundations works best for me, so that's how I applied this product. It blended it really well with my skin and didn't look like makeup. The coverage is light so it does not feel or look heavy or caked on skin at all. It is also moisturizing to a point so my skin looked fresh. I am not overly fond of the scent, but it is not offensive either...definitely does not smell like cucumber to me though. Since I got a lot of coupons for this, I may give it a try if it's cheap (not sure about the actual retail price). I also typically don't need a whole lot of heavy coverage, so this will be a good product to use in the summer. It won't replace my Revlon Colorstay as far as coverage, but it's a relatively good product for those looking for something similar to a tinted moisturizer...it will not cover up imperfections at all but it does balance out skintone. I also like the packaging - very sanitary.

Eye Shadow -Sally Girl - Sally Girl Aqua
rated 5 of 5
ThisGirl0 4/8/2011 11:44:00 AM

I have a bunch of these and finally decided to try aqua yesterday. Love it! Such a beautiful color that is truly aqua. It looks super bright and pigmented in the pan, it is not as pigmented on the lid, but can be if it is layered a few times. The color is truly unique and for less than $1 can't be beat. I will repurchase more colors next time I'm at Sally's. I also plan in trying to use this wet as a liner to see how it works. I am beyond impressed with these shadows because they're pigmented just enough that they can be worn in a variety of ways and settings without looking clown-ish.

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - B Beaute- eyelash curler
rated 5 of 5
ThisGirl0 4/8/2011 10:50:00 AM

So glad I decided to try this curler. It is a lifesaver! I have only used a couple of curlers before. My first one was Revlon that I thought worked well, but that was when I was inexperienced and knew nothing about cosmetic tools such as this. The down side to the Revlon is that the replacement pads are impossible to find. I found cheap, square ones at Walmart, I believe, and they worked but they were square so they crimped lashes and didn't do the job well. My second curler was ELF, which I thought was good till it started pinching like crazy, and the pads would split in a week. Not only that, but the handle broke apart with pieces shooting my my face! Dangerous. I tried using it with different pads (Maybelline) which were useless because they're tiny and don't fit into any curler I tried...and I wasn't going to waste money on the ELF ones that have to be replaced every 10 days. I originally bought just the pads for this curler from Sally's in hopes that they would work with the Revlon, which they did but the Revlon curler is junk so it was a total pain to try to get lashes to curl nicely. I finally decided to just buy the curler itself and see how it goes. I got it yesterday, tried it only once and I am sold. This product is amazing. It curls sooo well and super fast. My lashes separate and look gorgeous after using this product. It also came with 2 pads, so now I have 6, which is great... won't need to buy replacements for a long time. The curler fits into my eye socket perfectly. The handle is not the same as pictured, mine doesn't have the rubber pink handles, but I don't really care much anyway. It curls lashes perfectly and separates them so that they're fanned out. LOVE it! Best part it only cost $10.99 and the replacement pads are around $4 for 4; they are also thick and very sturdy so they will not split easily. Absolutely adore this product. So glad I didn't waste money trying other d/s or expensive ones. Will repurchase if anything happens to it... and am really glad that the pads are so cheap and can be found at Sally's as well.

Eye Shadow -Sally Girl - Sally Girl - eyeshadows
rated 4 of 5
ThisGirl0 4/2/2011 10:52:00 AM

I got a bunch of these recently from Sally's after discovering that they're only $0.94! I hadn't tried any of the colors so I purchased about 8 of the ones that stood out the most to me. So far I have only tried the snow and orange crush. Snow is really great because it's white but not chalky at all. It goes on sheer with very subtle shimmer. It is a great for all over lid application. I always apply a pale/shimmery shade over the lid, all the way up to the brow before applying the color that I am going for. This one works perfectly for that. Orange crush is the second that I tried. It is also slightly shimmer... I wouldn't call it orange as it is not super pigmented; it actually looks more peachy on the lids. It's really nice and not completely in-your-face orange. Perfect for work if you want to wear a fun eyeshadow color but don't want it to stand out way too much. I am looking forward to trying the rest of them as they all look really awesome. I used them with the UD primer and they did not fade or crease at all. I absolutely adore the packaging because they connect together; super unique and less chance of the shadows getting lost. Love and will repurchase more colors next time I'm at Sally's.

Styling Products -Unlisted Brand - Generic Value Products-GVP Smoothing Serum Compare To: Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum
rated 5 of 5
ThisGirl0 4/2/2011 10:41:00 AM

Just got this stuff and used it for the first time yesterday. I didn't think much of it and didn't expect it to work, but surprisingly it did! I have long, overprocessed hair that is a biotch to comb out after showering, and it takes for-freakin-ever to dry. I also usually need to use A LOT of product to achieve good results. I applied this into my hair after towel drying. I only put in about nickle size amount and distributed it throughout the best way I could. Firstly, the product is clear in the bottle, like any serum. It has the same silky texture as other serums. I am not exactly fond of the fact that it smells a lot like Victorias's Secret Love Spell (blah) but thankfully that scent does not linger in my hair at all. Drying time was cut nearly in half! I was shocked that it actually worked. It also made my hair a bit more shiny and smooth despite the fact that I put a gel and hairspray into my hair afterwards. It's the next day and my hair is still smooth and much better looking than usual...less kinks and knots. I really like this stuff and am glad I tried it. Will repurchase though this bottle will probably last me a while.

Conditioner -Clairol - Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Moisturizing Conditioner
rated 4 of 5
ThisGirl0 3/19/2011 11:24:00 AM

I have overprocessed, really dry hair that needs a lot of protein and conditioner. I treat it with a great protein treatment about once a month, but needed a good conditioner for regular use. My hair gets tangled really easily too, so I wanted a heavier conditioner that will reduce this and make it easier to comb out all the tangles and whatnot. After trying many different expensive conditioners which weren't worth it, I decided to go for a d/s brand. This conditioner gets relatively good reviews and it's super affordable, so I decided to get it. The bottle is my favorite part... it's the same as pictured, blue, funky bottle, and the conditioner itself is a light blue color as well. It smells really nice, though it does not linger in my hair at all. Maybe it's the fact that I pair it with many other hair products, but I do not smell it at all on myself after using it. Not a problem though; that's not why I decided to purchase this product anyway. I use a lot of it in the shower, leave in for about 10 minutes, and rinse. It makes my hair super slick while wet, which is great. My hair feels soft and manageable afterwards. It's not the perfect conditioner and it will not create miracles, but it is really good for the price. I got a big bottle of it for about $4. It's a nice product for someone with long, processed hair that needs something extra to make it smooth and more manageable. I will repurchase.

Bronzers -Jane - Oil Free Bronzer Powder - 09 Sahara
rated 5 of 5
ThisGirl0 3/13/2011 10:46:00 PM

Loveee this bronzer! I got this for really cheap and wasn't expecting much - worth a try. The packaging is a plastic, round, orangey-bronze container. There is a lot of product inside along with a big mirror and an applicator brush. The brush is the flat "fan" kind so I don't bother using it at home, though it is thicker and softer than most brushes alike so I'll probably use it on the go. I apply the bronzer with a blush brush and it deposits just the right amount of color. I am pale but this products blends in really well and creates a shimmery glow. It does not stick to skin in patches or look dirty like many other bronzers. I love it and am glad that I purchased. Looking forward to using it more in the summer, and probably repurchasing in the future.

Lipstick -Jane - Lipkick Lipstick - Camisole
rated 3 of 5
ThisGirl0 3/7/2011 3:48:00 PM

I am not a lipstick girl and I only own a few different lipsticks that I use like once or twice a year. I got this product just because I never wear nude colors since I am pale enough as it is. I got this because it was super cheap and decided it may be worth giving this product a shot. It comes in a gray case like most Jane lipsticks. The color in packaging is a creamy nude. When applied to lips, the color is more like a nude/gold-ish with a lot of sparkle. It is not glittery but it is definitely not a matte lipstick. I have pale skin and very light hair so this product does not look the best on me... but I have only seen it in my bedroom lighting, so not sure how it looks in natural light. It applies smoothly, looks and smells pretty much like any other lipstick. I think this color would look better on darker skin tones but I will attempt to make it work with different eyeshadows; hopefully it will work well with smoky eyes. As I already mentioned, I am not a lipstick girl so I will not repurchase this product simply because I don't see myself using it regularly.

Makeup Brushes -Sonia Kashuk - 09 Crease Brush
rated 5 of 5
ThisGirl0 3/6/2011 10:09:00 PM

I got this brush a while ago while looking for a decent eyeshadow brush. I now use it regularly for all kinds of shadow applications. The brush is really nice and soft and can be used in a variety of ways. I find that it picks up shadow very nicely and blends well. The bristles are soft and sturdy, it has not shed on me yet, no weird smell, and it deposits product beautifully. The packaging that it comes in is great because it's a plastic case that the brush snaps into so you can store it without ruining or deforming the bristles. Love it but will not repurchase mostly because I feel that this brush will last forever. I have washed it multiple times and it has not shed a single hair.

Blush -Jane - jane Be Pure Mineral Crushed Blush, Mink
rated 4 of 5
ThisGirl0 3/6/2011 8:59:00 PM

This is another product I purchased on a whim recently because it was discounted. This blush comes in a small, round container that has a sifter on top. The color in packaging is like a deep coral with a hint of brownish tone - hence the "mink." The blush contains a lot of sparkes but they are not the large heavy glittery kind... they are the soft type of sparkes that you typically find in eyeshadows. The blush is very pigmented and goes on evenly. The color on cheeks is kind of like a deep apricot... almost like a bronzer with a hint of sparkle. I see it working the best on wark skin tones. It may not be "office approrpriate" for some due to the shimmer, but it's perfect for a night out. Only thing I dislike is the packaging because these types of containers tend to break easily, spill and waste a lot of product, and just aren't convenient... but it's pretty much the only type of packaging that products such as this come inside. Don't think I will repurchase this particular shade since I don't plan on using it religiously (and there's a lot inside the small container). But I may purchase other shades. I am so glad to have found so many great Jane blushes recently. So affordable yet great quality and amazing colors. I no longer feel compelled to purchase any expensive blushes when products like this are comparable and many times even better.

Blush -Jane - Orchid - Blossom Blush duo
rated 5 of 5
ThisGirl0 3/5/2011 8:12:00 PM

OMG, absolute FAVORITE blush of all time!!! This product is freaking spectacular and I cannot believe that I found it as a random purchase. I purchased this from Hautelook on discount recently. I just wanted to give it a try and for about $2 it was totally worth it. I am soooo glad I got this. This product comes in a small black compact with a transparent top. The left side is Blossom, which is similar to a guava color with sparkles. It is not overly shimmery or glittery... absolutely perfect imo. The right side is Orchid, which is a matte deeper purplish-pink. I do not use either alone as together they are absolutely perfect together. Since Orchid is matte, I either apply that first and than top it off with the shimmer Blossom. Or I swirl both with a brush and apply together. This is like the perfect shade of blush with the perfect amount of pigment and shimmer. This product applies like a dream as well. I am pale and this blush works for me with just a couple of light sweeps. This would definitely work for darker skin tones as well. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Now I just hope that I can find it in drug stores to stock up/ repurchase.

Mascara -Jane - Max Lash 2
rated 3 of 5
ThisGirl0 3/5/2011 7:56:00 PM

This mascara reminds me of another by CG (not sure of the name). It is extremely fibrous. I know that this is good for length, but when the fibers are so obvious that they stick to your lashes sideways because there is so many, it can become a problem. I prefer thickening mascaras but decided to give this a try since I don't have a brown mascara and this was super cheap. Figured it can't hurt to try. One side is the white primer, which is really creamy and sticky (like Elmer's glue). It doesn't dry super white so I don't end up with white eyelashes application. The other side of the tube is brown to black, which is like a really dark brown. You would use it like any other mascara with a primer... primer first, wait to dry, than apply mascara. The packaging is decent, nothing extra special. The wands are both the same - medium size. I like that the mascara lengthens well, it does not thicken as much as I'd like even with the primer, but I always pair mascaras anyway so it's no big deal. It has the potential to clump and cause lashes to stick together because of the millions of tiny fibers. If they stick together I usually just use a toothpick or something small to separate lashes and remove any of the fibers that may be sticking out in the wrong direction. Overally it's a good product. I will not repurchase simply because it is not spectacular. It's a good emergency/replacement mascara since it's cheap and performs as well as many other drug store mascaras that cost twice as much.

Eye Shadow -Jane - Eyezing Eye Shadow Collection - Havana Tones
rated 4 of 5
ThisGirl0 3/5/2011 7:47:00 PM

I got this collection just for fun. I also have green eyes and figures purples are a good color to throw into the mix. This collection comes in a small compact with 6 different squares of shadow. Left to right they are: 1. Pink Sugar - which is a shimmery pale violet, really nice for highlighting and applying all over the lid. 2. Plum - matte deep purple. 3. White Lies - a matte white that I have not tried yet. 4. Lilac - a lighter, more blue-ish shade of purple (than plum). 5. Platinum - shimmery silver which I also haven't tried. 6. Clubbing - shimmery dark gray/black. I have only tried a couple of the colors but I really like them. They are pigmented and deposit a decent amount of color. Shimmery shades are really great because they're not overly glittery and can be used in a variety of ways for blending and whatnot. I am not disappointed with this purchase though I probably will not repurchase simply because there are about a zillion palettes just like this one. I also don't plan on using it on a regular basis so it will last a long time.

Eye Shadow -Jane - eye zing eye mixers Collection 3 Nirvana
rated 1 of 5
ThisGirl0 3/5/2011 7:35:00 PM

Just got this among a few other Jane shadows. I really liked the colors that come in this palette and I do not have a couple of them so I decided to give this product a try. Since I have used other Jane eyeshadows I expected this one to be the same, decent quality but nothing spectacular. This product is not the same, however. I tried 4 of the shades, starting with the creme (yellow). I tried applying it dry and was just not getting any pigment, so I tried it wet which was even worse because it ended up being goopy and did not apply evenly at all. The violet shade was the same... it deposited a minimal amount of color, barely noticeable. The browns and greens look okay but I haven't really tried them; hopefully they will be a bit more pigmented even though I am not expecting much. The packaging is okay, just as pictured... a little bit more cheap than I expected since the rest of their product I've tried have not been this bad. Will not repurchase as I feel this was a waste and have pretty much no use for this palette.
